I was updating an app from the Play Store (Pixel Dungeon), and once it started updating I was prompted to set up my Google Password Recovery. See the attached screenshot.
It irks me a little bit since that's the old Holo interface and not the Material one.
Thoughts?
I had the same prompt even if the password recovery was already configured.
Is that normal?
Seems normal to me.
I got that prompt too. Not sure if it's legit so I ignored it
I updated and immediately got an email from Google.

I'm getting a weird pop up box with every click on xda-developers this morning.
The box pops up, saying I need to enter a user name and password for stage.myplaydirect.com
This happens for both firefox and IE.
Anyone else having this problem? Makes for a frustrating surfing experience. Only happens on the xda site. Reset computer, ran virus scan and came back clean.

Yes, me too using firefox. Really irritating and I hasten to add that I have not attempted to submit my real username and password incase it's a rather 'in your face' form of phishing.

I got the same problem on both firefox and IE, and only when browsing this forum. No other sites or forums cause this pop up and my virus checker came up empty as did a complete scan of my system.
That's why I'm pretty sure something from this site is generating it.
Good to know I'm not the only one. Google didn't shed any light on it either other than some sony myplaydirect program, which isn't installed on my computer and I had never heard of.
Same here stage.myplaydirect.com

Have same problem with my Nexus One, log on to "stage.myplaydirect.com" pops up every time i reach the XDA forum and only there.
But on my computer it does not???
I have it too! really annoying... is it a bug of xda?
i have same message on all pages on XDA using FF3.6 and IE8.
No viruses found by anti virus program
I think this was solved by Svetius, and was related to third party advert code.
FWIW, xda doesn't ask for your password in such a box, so don't type it into that box. And your XDA password never needs to be typed into a site other than xda-developers.com and iphone-developers.com (if you import your account there)
Hi all, i changed my google account password in a browser and in the past my phone would basically stop working and ask for re-authentication.
However I just changed it , twice, and it my phone did not prompt me for any new password entry. I know i've done this in the past with other android phones. I'm wondering if its because of a special google account setting or phone setting.
Any ideas? Im running cm nightlies 150 on my g2.

I was caught off guard by that, seems Google syncs password changes to Android somehow.

So I guess you have the same problem as well?
Anyone else with this problem? I'm a bit paranoid if I lose my phone, and the thief will have access to all my google stuff even if I change my password.

I'm experiencing the same behavior, and I don't care for it.
I recently started using Google's 2-step Authentication app. Well I went and flashed a new ROM via standard protocol of data/cache/dalvik wipe, flashed gapps, went to log in to the play store and guess what... it asks me for an authentication code just like its supposed to. One problem... the app isn't installed on my phone any more. Fortunately this doesn't mean you or I are SOL.
1) You should ALWAYS make an nandroid backup before flashing. This way if you **** something up you can always flash back to a config that worked.
2) When you turned on Google Authenticator in the first place, it should have given you a list of 10 emergency back up verification codes. You should have followed the instructions to write them down or save them someplace safe for facepalm moments like these. Now would be a really good time to use one of them, but you only get 10 so you don't want to burn through one every time you flash a new ROM.
3) You can have your apps backed up to your SD card but you'll need a file manager to do so and the Play Store will be of no use at this point. However, you can get online and search for a downloadable .apk of one. However, if you're going that route, might as well google for a downloadable version of the Authenticator .apk (like here).
4) Probably the easiest hassle free option is to go into your Google settings on a PC that has already been authenticated, look under Security, and turn OFF 2-step verification; there is an option to save your settings to turn them back on later. Then proceed with flashing to you're hearts content after reading #1.
Um, you can just go on-line to your Google account and get a new set of "10 codes to print" whenever you want to - so you don't have to worry about being careful with them or anything. The only catch is that only the most recently requested 10 work - so... just use 10 then request 10 more there is no limit.
Interesting, I'm definitely considering using it.

Authenticators and phones are not a good mix. For this reason, I use the texting option. Unrecognized computer attempting to login - authentication code sent to my phone.

Yes, at the time I posted I wasn't aware that you could get a new set of 10. Thank you for the correction.

I always use TB and am able to restore the authenticator app with data. If I need to create an account on my phone before I just get the code texted to my phone.

For me, I list my google voice number as the phone number for 2-step verification. Then, I can just click the "don't have your phone" option, choose to send a code to my google voice number, and then access the code via the google voice website. No more worries about getting stuck at the 2-step verification page.
Only issue doing that for me is I often flash my phone during my commute (you mass transit) so don't often have access to a verified pc. But could forward the GV text to my phone and get the code that way as well

Hey
Every time I open a web link the tab s keeps asking me to select which browser I wish to use even when I tell it to remember my selection, it doesn't.
I've installed the chrome samsung app but did nothing.
Seems to do it on both beta and the standard app.
Any ideas?
I think I saw that happen on a new tab s 10.5. If I can remember correctly it only happened when the browser was being launched from specific apps. This is on my sister's tablet which I was showing her how to use so I can't retest, sorry. I only noted the odd interaction because it happened that the browser was the first time that the dialogue with "Always" came up and we chose always for Chrome but it came up a second time and my sister asked why?
A theory is that multiple URL extensions ".html" and ".htm" and a variety of others (e.g. Streaming extensions) may all need to be added to the default app list. That is just a theory.

no as even if I go back to the original web link and click it a second time, its still asking which browser to use and whether I can to set as 'default' or 'use just once'.
After seeing a device on display in a shop, which didnt do this, I determined my device must have been fault so they exchanged it.
However the new one is doing exactly the same...!
Is no one else with a tab s having this issue?
I'm still having this issue.
It is not just chrome browser but any app where different options are available. On my other devices you can select which one to use as default or use an an 'just once'.
I fear my tablet has alzheimers.
Found it woo hoo. ...After 2 hours taking off app by app, it national express UK, anyone else having this problem try removing an app at a time after a factory reset. They've been informed!
I'll try to explain as clearly as possible.
When I try to attach a backed up google photo using the stock messenger, all of a sudden it's not showing my back ups. It just lets me choose one of about 150 photos even when I choose the photos option like I have hundreds of times. I have over 2000 photos backed up.
When I go to Hangouts and try to attach the same exact way, ALL 2000+ OF MY BACKED UP PHOTOS ARE AVAILABLE.
This started last week, and the only thing I did since then was install Allo and I'm not sure if this caused the problem, but it is now uninstalled which would have happened anyway because it's horrible. The problem is still there regardless.
A friend of mine with the 6P just duplicated the exact problem as me.
Can any of you try this and see what's going on please?
How coincidental, I have the same issue.

I can't believe no one else has had this issue even though my friend with the 6P does but I don't know anyone else with nexus devices.
I just don't want the thread to slide down the spiral!

same issue here. I have an unrooted 5x running nougat. All of a sudden I am no longer able to access my backed up photos in the stock messenger app. I used to be able to. I am still able to open google photos and then link the image to a text message that way.

Try hangouts and see if they're all there to attach. They are for me. This is so weird.

I switched my default messaging app to hangouts. Still no images at first. But if I click to attach the image there is another image icon on the bottom right. I click that and I can choose from where I want to pull images from. This allows me to access google photos.
This seems like the stock android messenger is just not talking to the google photo's. Wonder if there is a permission somewhere that isn't granted.
I have left feedback as well as a negative review in the store in hopes to get this issue resolved.

Yeah and like I said my friend with his 6P has the identical issue.
I also put this problem in the app review.

This just got really frustrating!!
Can anyone see if they can even share a pic from your Google photos app to someone in messenger? This was my alternative to the backups not showing up anymore using the attach option in messenger.
Now all it says is ERROR DOWNLOADING ATTACHMENT.
Edit: I closed and then opened the Google photos app and now it attaches without the error.
Not sure why this feature was taken out of our stock messaging app.
