CM12 Nightly Update, Battery Depleted mid-update. Restart Loop - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone,
I started installing the latest CM12 nightly update. Battery depleted during the "optimizing apps..." process.
I managed to boot, but it kept coming up with "Google Play needs to update" or something. Couldn't do anything because it kept coming up no matter how many times I pressed "OK".
I restarted to recovery -> "Apply update" -> browsed to the "cm updater" folder and chose the recently downloaded nightly. It installed it, fully optimized all the apps (133 out of 133) but as soon as it reached home page it started looping.
I tried installing the older nightly that has been sitting there for a few weeks now, with the same way, but it's still looping.
What can I do? I really need all the info on the phone...
Thanks.

You are doing something very wrong if you are flashing CM12 on this phone.

Stuck on "Android is upgrading - starting apps" franco.Kernal r240

Hi there,
I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus (GSM) with Jelly bean from here, and franco.Kernal nightly r240, with 384Mhz GPU. I auto-flashed it, and it got stuck on "Android is upgrading - starting apps". I've cleaned the cache and fixed permissions and it boots once but the next time I try to start it, it gets stuck again on "Android is upgrading - starting apps". I've tried installing it with CWM Recovery but it makes no difference. So do I have to clean the cache everytime I want to boot, or how do I resolve this problem? Reflashing the ROM would be my last resort.
Any help would be much appreciated.
I've re-installed my ROM without wipeing data - everything is fine with stock. Then when I flash franco.Kernal through ClockWorkMod Recovery it boots! ... but not the second time. I cleaned my cache and fixed permissions and now I'm back to step one. I'll stick with stock kernal or an old version.

hi, i am having issue also with this. have Kernal nightly r240, with 384Mhz GPU in Xenon HD v8 JB. upon reboot I get stuck. my fix is to remove battery and reboot again without any problems. I have not encountered this with other kernels. Will try to flash the rom again and wipe everything and see if the problem persist.
update; just downloaded newly realeased r241 franco kernel. No more stuck at "upgrading android".

Same here. Thanks for the fix Franco.
For it worked the opposite
I installed r240 when it became available and had no problems with being stuck on "starting apps...", but today I installed r241 and discovered that audio jack for headphones is not functioning - if I plug in headphones or car aux it continue using built in speaker. Restarted the phone to recovery, cleaned cache and dalvik cache and upon restart I was stuck in "starting apps..." screen. Removed battery and phone booted ok, but audio jack still didn't work, so I returned back to r240 and now I can use headphones

Constant Crash & Loop

I have been running PA for months and have had 3.99 RC2 running for about 2 months and all of a sudden I updated an App from the Play Store which crashed the phone. (The App was Marvel Puzzle Quest)
Anyways the phone will load to the launcher and then crash after 5 seconds and this just non-stop repeats.
I then used WugFresh's Toolkit to install Stock 4.2.2 and I still am having the same issue.
Does anyone know how to fix this or has the phone finally kicked the bucket?

Wipe data, cache, dalvik and maybe system in order to start over. Install a ROM with less customization (e.g. CM) to verify if your phone's really fried.
Simply using the toolkit may or may not leave your data partition untouched (where your updated app is), which might explain why the problem persists.

Currently do not have a custom recovery installed and cannot ADB to install one... I assume I could fastboot install CM and that may work
Well I just tried flashing TWRP using ADB and I get this error: FASTBOOT STATUS - FAILUnknown Partition in my bootloader at the bottom of the screen.
Edit: Well that error was from a Typo and I do have TWRP installed now but still not getting past my reboot loops
Edit 2: Well I was able to sideload PA 2.99 RC2 back onto the phone and after about 10 seconds playing around on the phone it crashes and restarts still.
Edit 3: Installed CR Droid and still running into the same reboots after the phone is running fine for about 5 to 10 seconds. (Also get an com.android.phone has stopped)
Edit 4: I noticed anytime in Wugs it gets to "Running a modified boot.img to run privileged commands" the phone always crashes and restarts.
Edit 5: It looks like the phone doesn't crash when it boots if I don't touch anything. So I tried copying over a file to the Internal Storage and it just names it Local Disk
Edit 6: Installed CM11 and still the same issue, it looks like this phone has finally kicked the bucket after almost 3 years of use T___T
Edit LAST: Well my Internal Storage seems to work fine with CM11 so I have a 32 GB flash drive now, at least I have that going for me I suppose....

Optimizing apps 1 of 233 - and rising?!

Just recently my LG G4 H815, rooted, bootloader unlocked, v10b, has been acting strange.
I installed boot manager a couple of months ago and it has been running fine, but a couple of days ago I noticed pop up notifications saying a variety of apps were "added to boot manager"
I dont know where these apps are installing from and I cant find them in any folders.
Yesterday my phone crashed and after starting up again showed a "android is starting... optimizing apps 1 of 233" which seems a lot more than i have seen before. This made my boot time about 6 minutes
Today at work my battery died, (this is was because I fell asleep before charging my phone the night before) and when I charged my phone back up it showed "...apps 1 of 244". My phone was then on the "Starting apps..." Screen for 3 minuets. This made the boot time around 8-9 minutes.
I hadn't installed any apps between now and then and I did not see any pop up notifications.
At the moment I am scared to turn of my phone in fear of it taking even longer so I have 2 questions,
What is happening?
Do you need any further information to help me resolve this?
Thanks!
Best shot would be to factory reset your phone

Update: I seem to have gotten past the problems after updating to 10n. Now running stock debloated 10n rom with no reboot issues (so far)

[SOLVED] sprint SGS3 stuck on bootloops and crashes (tried everything)

I disassembled my phone lately for maintenance reasons, The battery was out for about 30 minutes, (My phone already had a trouble keeping the clock even though the battery was taken out for a short period), after assembling the phone, it booted up properly till the lock screen appeared and it all became black. software and hardware buttons were working properly, but the LCD itself was totally black.
I booted-up the phone in recovery mode and wiped everything from system, data, to cache, and then installed the newest version of Lineage. After booting the system gave me "process system isn't responding" and close and wait options with infinite bootloops.
I tried installing the full stock Rom and it gave me "setting has stopped working" and "google play services has stopped working".
My guess then was the time on the device, so I went back into recovery opened a shell session and fixed the time using "date" and "hwclock", but it never worked.
After searching online I found that this might be a battery issue, so I bought a new one, and guess...It didn't work either.
I really need help with this device! :crying:

Solved it by installing the NJ2:
Wiped everything, then installed the stock rom using odin 3.10, after that the system kept telling me the same messages, so I went back and installed twrp 3.10 .. I guess .. then wiped everything except for the system and internal memory, then I corrected my clock using this method:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3-sprint/help/how-to-edit-time-hardware-time-using-t3621875
and frankly it worked! and booted up normally.
Sadly I wasn't able to install any linage version! ... I hope that I find the solution so soon!

Gen1 FireTV stuck in reboot loop

So, I have a rooted 1st gen FireTV (aka bueller). I have no recollection what I did to it long time ago when I rooted it, other than it worked fine but was stuck on old software (5.0.x?). So I wanted to run newer apps on it, and I updated it with 5.2.7.3 rooted image. It reboot, went through the 10 min "system storage and applications" and was working, new UI and everything.... but when I tried updating the apps, it complained that the app store is too old. A few minutes later it rebooted.....and did the same "optimization" gig for like 10 mins.... then it rebooted, and now it reboots over and over, sometimes doing optimization, sometimes not, and sometimes I see the UI come up a second before it reboots again. TWRP bootloader works, so I can try flashing it back with older FW, I but I really would rather go forward. Any way to find out what is happening? I tried ADB, but it does not seem to connect when "optimization" is running
Thanks

FWIW, Several more re-flashes back and forth and a wipe, and it is now working
