Could you elaborate precisely what the issue is, not many people are going to be able to help if you don't tell us more information.
What ROM are you using?
What have you flashed?
Did you perform a full wipe?
Do you have any apps that could influence the camera in a negative way?
Any mods which could affect the system ie: Xposed ?
As much as you can give, plus what was happening between it working and not working and what you did between.
Before you started wiping or anything, try a third party camera, ie: SNAP Camera and see if the problem persists on that too.
I would suggest a wipe after that based upon what you've said and perhaps a stock type rom or close to.
Front camera works fine, but i can't switch to this on back
I don't have any mods any apps
Before i have ROM from o2 uk and camera also did not work too
Now i have this what is on screen :

s21.postimg.org/hdsf0vrna/IMAG0096.jpg
(if you want to translate something, write)
And when i try run flashlight i got this message:

(sorry for my bad english)
Thanks

What have you tired so far?
Try a different camera app, ie: snap camera, Google camera.
Go to application manager, clear data for the camera.
Force a reboot.
Factory reset (back up data first)
Reflashing rom, try a different rom.
Confirm you're on the correct firmware, update if necessary
Flash an ruu.
Try these in order chances are it'll be one of them.
Unless there's something else going on, that's pretty much what I would do..

I don't know what I did but for whatever reason my screen is no longer responding on the 7,8,9 row on the phone. Mods if this is not in the right place can you move it please.
The last thing I did was change evrc to evrc.b and now the row doesn't work. I'm using fresh's rom if that makes a difference.
try recalibrating Menu-Settings-Lang&keyboard-Text input- Calibration (at the bottom)
unfortunately after re-calibrating AND resetting back to factory it still doesn't pick it up.
ok i just did a data wipe and a dalvic-cache wipe and re-installed fresh's rom to see if it would fix the problem, unfortunately it doesn't look like it worked at all. i'm still getting no input on the 7,8,9 row. anybody have any other idea i can bounce around to try to fix my touch screen problem?

Have you tried reflashing the stock ROM to see if it's simply a hardware issue?

first off, this should be in the q&a board, IMO.
second, i agree completely with the previous post. i would reflash to completely stock. if the issue persists and is consistent, as in those rows NEVER work no matter what (stock software or custom software), i would take it back to where you bought it, sprint/radio shack/best buy. it should be easy to demonstrate to them the issue and they shouldn't have any problem exchanging your current model as defective for a new one.
if the issue is fixed by flashing stock software ... then that's another ball game and we can work with that when we get there so keep us updated!
ok really noob question but when you say stock rom, do you mean stock rom that is rooted or completely stock like out of box, and if that's the case where do i get the stock rom from? also would this screw up my root access?
edit:
will this one work forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=685835?
ok so yeah i did a flash to the stock rom and it's still a no go. >_< looks like i'm taking it back to sam's club to get it replaced then.
I've got MIUI ROM 1.6.10 installed on my HTC Desire and I really like it, but I've got a big issue with the camera: it's in a constant state of being frozen.
So to clarify, I open the camera app, and it's straight away frozen. I try to press buttons but all I get is the Force Close / Wait dialogue. If I wait, nothing happens. If I force close and open it again, it's frozen still/again.
It used to happen to me in MIUI 1.2 as well and when I upgraded to MIUI 1.4 after a wipe, surprisingly it was exactly the same, but then I tried pressing the Clear Data button for the Camera application and it started working again.
A little bit after it started getting frozen again. Clear data didn't work anymore, neither did a wipe, SD card format and upgrading to 1.6.10, as mentioned above.
The only thing I can think about the might cause the problem is this: before miui I used to have cyanogen ROM. When I look at phone information it says I've got the cyanogen kernel. is that something that could cause problems to the miui ROM? Should install a different kernel?
Can anyone please help? I really like this ROM and I don't want to have to start getting used to something else!
Thanks for reading!
I'm not sure if this is useful/helpful at all but i gather that since it says that you've got cm kernel you didn't perform a full wipe when you installed miui... try doing a full wipe and reinstalling it...
Save important user data and apps, perform a full wipe and flash again.
Does a full wipe erase the previous kernel?
What kernel will I have then?
Can anyone actually explain what kernel is exactly?
Also, how do I do a FULL wipe?
Because I've already done:
- wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache partition
- wipe dalvik cache
What am I missing?
Cheers
After a full wipe you won't be able to start any rom.
You will get the kernel which is delivered with the rom you flash.
An explanation for the kernel:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_kernel
Nothing is missing for a full wipe.
Search the miui thread for your problem.

If nothing is missing and I've actually done a full wipe, then why is my kernel still cyanogen?

Wicked thank you. So the kernel is not the problem.
Could I still have missed something from a full wipe? I remember reading in the guide that u need to format /data,or something. But I assumed the wipes I've detailed above were sufficient. Can anyone confirm that for me?
Or can anyone tell me otherwise why I'm having this problem?
Thanks.

DIDN'T WORK!
It's a shame. I really thought that was the solution, but it didn't work.
I've just downloaded and installed the recommended radio (5.17.5.23), even tried to clear the camera's data again, but it's still frozen.
ANYONE ...? :\
Did you try some other kernels like ManU or Tiamat?

No. Do you reckon that might help? Which one would u recommend?
Okay I've tried a different radio, different kernels (Tiamat 3.3.8 and 4.0.5). Nothing helps!
Does anyone have a clue how to fix this annoying problem?
Another lead I had in mind: Could the fact that I have S-ON affect anything?
Update: I've tried pressing "Fix Permissions" in ROM Manager which didn't help either.
................?
The MIUI camera seems to be a bit buggy, I had to update the radio which helped me get rid of the worst crashes (suprise reboots) but it's still FC'ing and crashing the camera totally so that a reboot is necessary.
Try installing Camera360 from Market. It works for me, and at least you will know if it's just the MIUI Camera app that's broken or if you have bigger problems. In case Camera360 can't connect to the camera, reboot and try again.

I've already tried a different camera from the market and it does work with no problems at all.
It is the miui camera app that's malfunctioning.
If no one has a solution, all that's left for me is to hope the miui devs will fix this critical issue for their next build.

Ah, then it's most probably the same problem that I have, only I get to shoot a few pics before it goes bye bye and then no camera app at all works until I reboot.
It's a shame because I really like the MIUI Camera, but I guess we'll just have to wait for a fix. If you have error logs, try posting them in the official forum for your MIUI build and maybe they can get someone in China working on a solution?
same problem for me but i am on 1.9.16 ported to X10 lol...
I seen somewhere that it was the auto focus that caused problems/ lags for ppl so if i could just get it to work once and maybe turn that off?
Whenever i use my front camera on both instagram and the normal camera my phone freezes and reboots. I have CM10.1.2
Did a fix come out yet? It's really irritating.
I was under the impression this was a problem with the app, not the Rom.
If that is correct then you need to check for updates and/or contact them.

Have you done a CLEAN install ? If you did do dirty flash, expect camera issues. Please do Factory Reset, format Dalvik and Cache. After that re-install the Rom.
If it still persists, this might be an issue with Focal. Please post a Logcat on the Rom's thread.
I don't know what a clean install or dirt flash is. And wouldn't a factory reset erase everything on my phone?
i was under the impression this was a problem with not only me but a lot of others. Is factory reset the only option?

If others have this problem then voice your concerns in the appropriate thread for the app. Here in General Q&A by name it is Generic and not specific to any app. So you will not get correct help. If you posted in the app's thread, you will get news about updates and fixes/workarounds.
Since we don't know if its your setup or the app, you need to eliminate at least your setup as a potential cause of the issue. Sometimes Dirty flash is ok. But if issues creep up then you need clean install. You have to backup your contacts, photos and any other app preferences such as Launcher. Ideally use Titanium backup to do this. Make sure the backup is stored on the External SD Card.
After that is done, you have to do factory Reset. If you complain to the Rom Developers, this is the first thing you'd informed. So yes under the present circumstances, you have to do factory reset.
If you read the OP for your Rom, I will bet more than likely this is one of the steps mentioned there as part of installation instructions.
Instagram has been giving people headaches for months now. Especially on CM and aosp roms.

Just got my 10 today. Rooted and S-Off right out of the box. I'm now in the process of setting it all up and noticed the camera app opens for a second but shows no picture and then closes. I installed Google Camera and upon opening it just hangs. I uninstalled a bunch of stock stuff so something may have broken it, although I didn't touch anything camera related.
Any ideas?
I can't get any camera app to work actually.

Did you install a custom kernel?
If you are on the latest ROM 180.xxx and using a custom kernel that could be the problem.

I didn't install a custom kernel, no. I'm using the stock ROM just rooted.
No idea why this worked but I restored my original original backup before making a single change. When it booted it was still booting into the system I had fully setup but with the addition of everything I had deleted. I went through in titanium and deleted all the exact same things again. 1000% the same. And now the camera and everything is functioning as it should.
Now I just gotta wait for an AOSP ROM.

I just got a replacement US unlocked version, my camera is blurry at a distance, and won't focus at all. Only rooted and S-Off.
Same problem

I've got a new HTC 10 (64GB) Taiwanese stock and received two OTA's after setting it up. It brought the software to 1.80.709.1 but broke the camera in the process! I'm experiencing the same thing as you are. Click on the camera and it shuts in a second without displaying anything in the viewfinder. Try to access the camera from another app, no luck, just black screen.
I bought the device online and have been trying to organise a replacement but it's taking forever. I've done everything relating to the camera (clearing cache/data to updates, downgrades) and even a factory reset but couldn't solve the issue. I'm pretty darn sure it's not a hardware issue because the camera was working fine before I did the two software updates and I did not drop or impact the phone. So I think if I can reflash 1.80.709.1 or go back to my original ROM and re-do the OTAs I might be ok. But how can I do that without rooting... (want to avoid root if I can).
I've been trying to find the stock RUU for the 1.80.709.1 without any luck (closest I got was the TWRP zip but don't want to deal with that if I can avoid). I've got the RUU for 1.80.617.1 from the HTC US site (Int Unlocked/Dev) but I'm not sure if I flash this would something else break. Particularly around LTE reception / Bands.
Any advice?
So, i can't record any videos and it is not fixable with build.prop tweaks. Footej does work, but i want to be able to use snapchat etc.
Stock firmware and custom rom show "could not start media recording" and couldn't start camera.
for referance: it did work some time ago.
something is messed up, but what? atleast i can still record with footej...
Any ideas?
Solution :
Flash stock Firmware and do an Ota update
In my case : S048 to S233 or something like that, then don't install xposed., use the xposed system less version.. Done.

Have u tried rebooting...If yes then try clearing cache and dalvik cache from twrp...If still no reflash stock...Dirty flash should probably do the job
Nope, already tried that hours ago ;/
Stock firmware : same result
Dirty flashing ROM : same
Clean flash: same
I don't know why this even happens...I mean Snapchat video recording seems to be working, footej works as well..but stock camera and some others don't..it is simply buffling to be honest..
Thank you for effort of writing though..!
I just hope I can resolve it somehow soon
It is happening even on stock ROM?
Like I mentioned a post above yours, sadly yeah :/
I will have to stick to Footej camera I guess..
Edit: using Valeria's build.prop tweaks.
