Hi,
I usually download files from uptobox, uploaded, rapidshare, etc...on my pc.
No problem [emoji2]
But with my m8 and dolphin browser (or others) it often doesn't work and only download a shortcut of the link and not the file itself.
I mean "save and download the file in "download repertory"...most of the time doesn't work. Only works with uptobox or Google drive..[emoji35]
Any idea of such a difference between pc easy downloads and the restrictions I have on my android phone?

Fancy seeing you here.
Torrents are not links they are small files with info that point to the download.
If you click 'direct link' that is NOT a torrent.

Those aren't torrents, just file sharing services (direct download links from a server).
Rapidshare is long gone. Of the other "file sharing" websites, the ones I've used all work fine on my M8 with no special steps. Make sure you are clicking the right link, as many of the fileshare sites have fake links that install exe files to your PC (don't really do anything on an Android phone).
Also, I do most of my downloading from such websites using the Opera browser; for no other reason than to keep my "adult" (ok, porn) browsing separate from my "other" web browsing. So give Opera a try.
If the link is indeed a torrent, than you need a torrent client on your phone (same as you would on your PC). UTorrent is the decent client I've used on my Android devices.

Ok, sorry for the bad name I don't download "torrents", I download like you direct download links from servers [emoji6] .
For the moment I don't remember all the names of the servers but :
Usually the web sites propose 3 or four links from huge servers (uploaded, uptobox, rapid...) , I always choose free servers, but one thing I am sure is that it always work with my pc, but often don't work on my m8 (or other android device) with dolphin browser or "internet native app".
Most of the time (uptobox works perfectly with my phone) it only downloads the shortcut or a small octets of data...
Ok I will try opera and when I have 5 minutes I will try to download again and eventually post you the unworking links to see by yourself[emoji102]

I've used a bunch of file sharing services (Uploaded, Rapidgator, Depositfiles, Filefactory, Uploadable, Fileboom, and more) successfully on this phone using Opera (and using the "free: download links).
I did just try Uploaded on the native HTC browser, and it got jacked up with popups and other crap, and never even downloaded a thing. So maybe that is part of your problem. Opera does allow some popups, but seems to get sidetracked much less easily by them.
Thank you for your tests, personally I was trying kernels, root, ota, xposed...But I will go back to downloads soon.
And of course I will first do all my tests with opera and tell you the results. It should work!

Hello,I've used dolphin for a while and downloaded many files on it successfully. You can send an email to their support team at [email protected] for further investigation. I tried ,and got an effective response from them.

The only internet i have is from my Desire. I would like to upload a large file to some sort of site around 100MB worth.
I have tried most popular ones but they don't work form the phone. I have tried Dropbox but it seems there is no status bar of how much it has uploaded. I even left it going overnight and couldn't tell wether it was done or not!
Any ideas?
I have used estrongs file explorer (available free in marketplace) it has a built in FTP client and I've used it to upload large files (300Mb +) to company FTP site over 3G and WiFi in the past, it has a process indicator too...
EStrongs also has LAN browsing capability, so I can use it to playback mp3 stored on my NAS when at home
Hope this helps.
P
Would i not need my own webspace to do that though? I meant more for uploading a file to Megaupload/4shared/Rapidshare anything like that really?
Thanks for the reply though. Will be worth having it for other things!
Yes, it would only work if you had the FTP address for the location you were trying to upload to,
for file sharing sites, have you tried an alternative browser to default, I don't use any of those sites you mentioned, but for other things (managing world cup fantasy football team for example) I found that I could use some pages in dolphin HD that wouldn't work in the default browser, I'm not a big fan of dolphin because of the way it hijacks all of your default preferences even when you ask it not to, but it did allow me to use sites that otherwise would be unavailable

Tried operamini no luck there. What site would i be able to use?
~100MB and below I've done with Dropbox using the Droidbox app.
It shows an icon in the notification bar and the current status when you scroll down (progress bar, successful/unsuccessful). This is a 63MB 3GP vid file I'm uploading using it right now: http://bit.ly/asyRYa

Very easy to transfer a file with this.

Available in Australia. Installed. Now it wants me to install it on my pc as well. Transferring to PC. It will use WiFi. But still cool alternative to WiFiExplorer.
Installed. Works great. Cool Intelligent app. Transferred 83mb video from laptop to galaxy in less than 3mins. Transferred a photo from galaxy to laptop in 1 sec.
Samsung does look aftr the Galaxy users.
I got it a day after I went from Eclair to Froyo so I assume 2.2 only. It uses wifi wo should be fast but I can't get it to work.
Says unsupported appliation
I don't use IE though.
Doesn't support URLs from Google Chrome. Also, no option to send a pdf file from galaxy to laptop. Can only send image/audio/video from galaxy to laptop. So, there is room for improvement.

ditto here.
Just unlocked my HOX and saw that their was an update notification.
It was Google Drive!!!
Apparently, the Docs app has been updated to Google Drive.
Still exploring. More to follow.
Update 1: You get 5 gigs of storage space to begin with.
Update 2: It is ICS optimized (no annoying 3 dots). Why the Docs app wasn't optimized becomes clear now.
Update 3: The app is a bit rough around the edges. Stuttery scrolling and some low-res graphics.
Update 4: Drive supports upto 30 different file formats. Some (like PSDs) cannot be previewed by the app but can be in the web version.

Simple - Docs. That's my primary office suite. And I'm sure it will have a lot of other (free or otherwise) goodies to offer as well. Basically the ability to sync with all of Goog's services.
Also, Collaborative editing - A boon for people like me.
Support for 30 different types of file in the browser – including Photoshop and Illustrator files
Upto 16TB of purchasable space
It could go on and on... ;-)

Not to get off topic, but I will probably be getting Google Drive, as I do use Google docs quite extensively when working with teams. Looks pretty cool!
You mention that only 30 types of files are "compatible" with Google Drive. Do you mean that only 30 file types are viewable, or only up-loadable?
Look at http://www.google.com/policies/terms/ in "Your contents and our Services"

Hi guys,
just wondering what browsers you lot use.
Currently use Dolphin as its the only one I can find with a 'Home' button.
any other decent ones out there.
thanks.
I'm using chrome.. It's the best so far... It allows to syncronize all pages and bookmarks with my laptop! And it works perfectly smooth, i use it with 100+ opened pages! Plus, it allows to translate any page without opening Google Translate.... I recommend it!

Thanks for that, is there any way to add a home button to Chrome?
I use stock, which also syncs with desktop bookmarks fine. although on the M8 it's a little temperamental but it is the best browser in my book.
Dolphin works with flash, but aside from that is ok.
I don't like chrome as there is no way to control how a page looks, and it always messes up a page. Text is all over the place and the wrong sizes and it doesn't like to just autofit the page like the stock browser does, also it's pretty laggy.
I have ADM (advanced download manager) and it works great. But sometimes the links in pages don't get grabbed by ADM and the browser starts the transfer.
I'm pretty sure it's the stock app for the M9 because this happens with all installed browsers (6)
The aim is to have ADM download all apk files, regardless of browsers used.
Huge thanks for solving this

Yes it auto intercepts most files, but not all .apk files
The sites give a gibberish address that a simple copy paste won't work.
I want ADM to grab the coded .apk file within the URL and not directly copy paste.
However, I'm having trouble explaining and understanding your post..sorry

This is what I'm trying to disable, redirected to ADM
I understand what you mean, you want the downloads to be handled by only adm. The problem is that my adm seems to work fine but sometimes it won't pickup links as it should.
If you're having the problem of adm not kicking in at all i recommend uninstall and reinstall. Also, not accusing you of anything here, the proper Google play version will probably work better than a version downloaded from elsewhere.
It might be worth paying attention to what type of files and which type of website server (https or https) that it happens on. If you can post a link I can work with it would help a little.
Yep, I was using adm from another market. I'm using the google play version now and the problem still persists.
Here's the link of the culprit in subject. http://bit.ly/2qyTtzs
But as you will no doubt get the same result as you mentioned about adm not handling all generated links.
