Update Failed - no option to reapply? - Verizon LG G4

I am currently on 11a. My "Last System Update" shows a failed 12A update on October 9th, but there is no option to "reapply" the update. If I hit "Check for new system update" - it tells me that I'm up to date. Am I stuck doing a factory reset then trying again? The error code was '554' according to the system updates screen.

The update probably has been pulled; by the many reports here of broken notifications, it seems likely.
(I am seeing the same thing as you)

Didn't think of that, but makes sense, thanks! Was really hoping it takes care of some of the touch issues, even if it's placebo. Literally my ONLY issue with this damn phone.

Stock OTA 2.2 Failed - suggestions?

I finally pulled the trigger on installing the Stock OTA Froyo 2.2. I saw a quick flash of information in the top bar that said something about dismounting my SD card. Then about 4 seconds after pressing install, a very non-descript error message comes up that says something to the effect of "The upgrade failed to install" (nothing more technical that that).
Now I'm not getting any invites to install and Settings > About phone > System Updates, says "Your system is currently up to date". Firmware version still says 2.1-update1.
It's been three days and so I thought I'd get invited to upgrade again by now. I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone else?
Thanks in advance
Could have been a corrupt OTA update - kinda unlikely but possible. Why not just grab the UPDATE.ZIP file here on XDA and apply it manually? I flashed my near stock DInc in this manner and it was flawless.
Just a thought...I waited a week for the OTA to hit and it never got to me.
Yeah, you're probably right. Maybe I'm dreaming that Verizon would try sending it to me a again.
Worked like a charm.

[Q] ITL41F OTA failed ... won't retry

Got the OTA today. Bog stock not rooted. update failed. After about 30 minutes a retry download button appeared. Pushing it doesn't do anything. Is there a minimum wait between update attempts? Any other ideas?
Same thing happened to me. I have waited 3 days for a repeat but to no avail. I rooted it and installed a custom ROM with the volume fix update in.
http://twitpic.com/7oody4 this?
Mine failed too... mine was just rooted; nothing else
I got the little Android logo with a !
Rebooted again, no update appears; so I decided to just put the update myself.
Twitpik link is broke. Didn't fail during reboot though. Error msg is right in the system update page. The dowload progress bar is grayed out and it says dowload failed instead a percent progress and there is Retry Download button lower right but it doesnt seem to do anything.

Mine downloaded automatically over night, and asked if I wanted to apply it when I woke up at 6am. Twitpic should work btw, I just looked at it
Mine even said it was downloaded AND verified, but still failed
Rooted on stock rom with CWM.... Without the stock recovery it can't install. Just jumped to a new Rom with the update....I have always hated the auto updates..lol
Is there a way for me to apply this update by itself? Even if I don't have stock recovery? Is it possible to re-set recovery to original without wiping the entire device?
Mine is rooted, stock ROM, CWM recovery.
OTA re-set itself and installed correctly overnight without me doing anything. Not sure why it failed or how it resolved it but it's done.
If you're still having issues try this

Basically its links to the patch (OTA) and how to root/return to stock with a link to the guide on xda

I eventually received the update. It downloaded and asked for a reboot. I agreed and the phone counted down, then shutdown, but didn't startup. I waited and waited, the power button would not respond, so I removed the battery, and put it back in. It then started up, but still on the old ITL41D software. What did I do wrong? And what do I do now? Is it normal for it to fail to start up aftrr the reboot? Will I get another opportunity?
Sorry for all the questions, but I'm super frustrated

Is your phone rooted? If so, I would look at the comment above yours with the link to the patch (and instructions) to flash it manually. If it is not, it will likely allow you to retry in a day or two.
Hope it all works out for you.
EDIT: I just tried flashing the patch manually as per the prior instructions posted and it didn't work. It gave me "Error (Status 7)" and aborted the installation. Although, right when it rebooted back into the home screen, it came up with the official OTA update again. I'm hesitant on trying it again, since it's likely to fail due to whatever reason caused it to fail the first time.
Either way, this is getting aggravating. I really wish there was an easier way to get this patch without needing to lose root and having to re-do things all over again. I have done a TiBu batch run of all of the stuff I need, but still...oh well.

Don't think I've ever seen an OTA which left root intact. This occurs when the OTA sets the permissions recursive for the whole directory /system/bin to 755 removing the setuid attribute on the /system/bin/su binary.
The binary will still be there, but will have to have the setuid attribute added back, chdmod 4755, which will then return root.
Does seem odd Google allows the device to be unlocked, but yet unlocked devices get root access wiped. If they claim to want open source and open devices, perhaps they could script an exception for root access and not remove it with every OTA.
Normally, when Error status 7, or any other recovery error, we're in a custom recovery with adb access and can pull the log at /tmp/recovery.log or /cache/recovery.log and examine what caused the issue as more output is stored there than presented on the screen to the user.
Perhaps googling this recovery error code or grabbing the open source from AOSP will show generally what causes it.
Does seem odd the issues other users have had *automatically* cleared themselves after waiting a while.
First idea which comes to mind is perhaps the original OTA had a bug in the scripting and they were slowly replacing and pushing out the updated OTA.
Keep us updated! I'm on the samsung version of ics so I'll probably have to manually push over all the images...but good to keep up with the *official* route.
When trying to install my update, I get signature verification failed in recovery.
Any ideas?
EDIT: Flashed the recovery posted in the Image on Googles site.
Fixed the problem for me.

Not technically official, but a MUCH easier way to get the patch and keep all of your settings and root can be done using the slightly modified stock ROM from bigxie (link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1372376)
If you clear just the cache and dalvik, then flash this. You get the patch, SU, and busybox, without losing all of your settings or data.
Worked great for me. Hope that helps!

[Q] Started OTA update by accident, then pulled battery - what to do now?

New to these smart phones but catching up quick. Got a Verizon note 4. I was purposely avoiding the Lollipop update but those screens keep popping up. Finally hit one by accident and started the update process. In my panic I did not see much details of what went on. Several large droid like icons flashed on the screen and there was a reboot. I pulled the battery after 20 to 30 sec. and a lot of cursing. After replacing battery and powering up it does a recovery boot ( says so in blue on top left) and then a new screen says installing system update.
What is the easiest way to stop the update? I might like to change stuff - if / when that gets figured out - so I was trying to keep KK 4.4.4. Does it matter if I update?
FWIW, I can get into ODIN mode. Do I even need to go that far? I am competent to handle the process, just not sure what would need to be changed and with what.
Any help would be appreciated.
There is no reason to not update, you can odin 4.4.4 back if you don't like it
Is there another option?
Thanks for the reply.. Is there is only one version of lollipop out right now? Some suggest future revisions may fix holes which currently allow us to revert back. I don't know how to tell what version I am getting.
Is there a way to stop the update without having to go through the whole process, especially if I plan to downgrade right away? Maybe a factory reset - not sure if I can get there. What about replacing a file that stops telling it to continue the update?
Flashed back to factory firmware
Probably overkill but I flashed it. Found the matching fimrware and used odin for the first time. Not complicated but a little scarey. I did not know if interrupting the phones attempt to update itself could cause a problem. Initial check seems fine. A message did pop up saying something like - attempt to download update failed. Did not install. I will have to see if it keeps bugging me to try again.

Note 4 Help After Update

So, here's the basics:
AT&T Note 4, Official. Never had issues, never needed to root...
Build MMB29M.N910AUCS2EQF1
June 1, 2017 Security Patch Update
6.0.1
All updates have always come OTA.
Here's the issue:
When the MAY security update come out, I updated like I always do. Since then, my phone started locking up, randomly rebooting, all around pissing me off
I read about having Samsung Experience in Best Buy reapply the update, but our Best Buy no longer has Samsung.
So I went to AT&T to see if they had capacity to do it, nope; just a moron sales-boy who was clueless, just wanted me to pay $225 for my deductible and get an S8 (maybe if they offered the + I might have).
Went to a third party mobile repair and they quoted $35 up front but didn't guarantee they'd be able to 'find the update cause they're in China' (true story).
I've uninstalled apps and reinstalled systematically trying to find a culprit (to no avail).
Tried using Kies and Smart Switch and they both error when I enter the model and serial.
I did a factory reset from recovery and wiped caches, but the problem persisted.
So I installed Wake Lock (darken) and that seemed to tide it and 'cure' the problem.
June security update come out and I installed it. I had to remove and re-seat batteries, restart, pray to my fictitious gods and finally it got to the green App Optimizing and finished.
I removed the wake lock but the problems persisted; so I reinstalled it and that's currently where I am...
I have close to 20 years with computers, but am total n00b with Android.
I see there are the security updates here and downloaded the May and June.
At this point, would applying back to the May update have the possibility of helping even though I've now installed the June?
If so, how? I read you copy it to the root of an SD Card and apply update through the recovery screen, is this correct?
Should I factory reset/wipe caches before re-applying the update?
If I need to re-image the phone (another possible fix I read), what file do I need to use to go about doing that?
At this point, I'd like to A) limp by til the Note 8 comes out and B) get this back up and running so my kids can inherit it for their games when I get the 8...
Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.
(Just noticed this might be more appropriate in the Help section. Mods, please feel free to move this to the correct sub-section. I can't find a way to delete the post and repost it there...)

General December update woes...

The past few years, I usually install the ota manually on my pixels if they don't come right away on my phone (they usually do in CA). I keep my bootloader unlocked (just in case things go haywire) but haven't modified or rooted in many years. So today, because the update was so large (more reasoning below), I decided to flash the factory image and remove the "-w" command so it wouldn't wipe the phone. Done this many times.
So my usual process is to flash both slots one after the other. I flashed the current slot it was on (b) then switched to the (a) slot. Been doing the same since Android 4 (and A9 for a/b slots), hundreds of times. After flashing slot (a), it restarted like it's supposed to. I then get the dreaded "Your device is corrupt" message. First time I've seen this on any of my 4 Nexus and 5 Pixel phones. Okay so I decided to try flash it again, this time with the wipe command (recovery wouldn't work, same message). Flashing completes, same message. Then tried the flash.android.com - flashed all slots, wiped options on - same thing. The " pixelrepair.withgoogle.com " website doesn't recognize the phone which is odd because flash.android.com does. I tried flashing the original image from November and 2 other build versions. Still no go.
Not sure what happened here. I don't think anything is wrong with the latest image. The reason I flashed this image was because I had a thought today - does flashing the "ota zip" update the bootloader and other firmware versions (they were different different versions this update). So I guess my curiosity killed the cat ... I should have just ran the ota first to see if the bootloader/radio versions updated, but of course the ota updates them (or they would never get updated otherwise). Ahh well. Now I will have to deal with the silly carrier warranty circus.
Also - I never thought an update could cause a phone to completely corrupt itself where it can't be fixed by the user. All of these posts on xda/red_dit etc over the years - I really didn't think it was possible. I always thought corruption must have been there before, but now I'm not so sure.
update: flashed the last build from November using flash.android.com and was able to get my system back. 2nd flash for that build worked.

If anyone has any fastboot tricks - I'd try anything at this point.

Not sure if I wasn't clear:
Okay so I decided to try flash it again, this time with the wipe command (recovery wouldn't work, same message). Flashing completes, same message.
I tried flashing 4 different Factory Image builds (flashing manually the Factory Image not ota). The android flash tool (webiste) completes but same message appears after it restarts.

You're trying to flash with fastboot right? Use that Android flash tool. You'll see a link to it in the factory image page. I went through the same thing you did, I got the corrupt device. at the very end It'll ask you to Lock the bootloader just don't do it if you want to stay unlocked.
Oh maybe I misunderstood you tried that and it's not recognizing it

flash.android.com recognizes it and it completes but the corrupt message still appears.
I'm going to try the original build from October, using the flash.android.com website - and pick all the Advanced Options, see how it goes (disable verity and verification, force debuggable and flash all partitions). I guess it's worth a try. pixelrepair website doesn't recognize the phone.

ok what the hell. what a mess. it was weird, long-pressing the power button would never restart the device. it took multiple tries. I've learned over the years to remove the case because it can hinder the restart sequence. But even just getting into fastboot was difficult.
Anyhow it looks like I'm back.
2nd time flashing this exact image, but this time it worked - I used the flash tool website and flashed the November SD1A.210817.037 (non vzw build). I just chose options "All Partitions, and full wipe"(my next step was to try disabling verity and debugging but this worked).
a few reports on red_dit of corruption on the 6 Pros. hopefully Google pulls it soon. if people don't have the "oem unlocking" option enabled, their toast.

so if I didn't have "OEM unlocking" enabled - I'd have a brick right now. just actually trying to help someone else that also got the corruption message and can't get back into Android to enable oem unlock. Recovery doesn't work (like my situation).
What a mess...
That's what can happen when we're inpatient and not willing to wait for the right version to actually push to the device.
Battery life is awesome, still on 44% at half 10 at night from half 6 this morning

seriously? the right version? I installed the right version, and others also had the same issue just by updating normally through Android interface.
you shouldn't be able to "corrupt a system" just by updating to the official update build. this isn't 2012... anyway, I mostly posted and updated for others who might have had issues also.

Well in the 4 years of me being on Android I've never had it happen.
I literally just got my Pixel 6 Pro and attempted the December update and got a firmware corrupt. The only options is try again or factory reset. I just finished going through the first time setup and already got this.

Why not just adb sideload the OTA image, rather then flashing on both slots the factory image? It just sounds a bit of a hassle to me.
I know, I used to fastboot flash without -w my nexuses as well, but that was before the OTA images were available.

yeah it's super rare. been flashing images and ota's since Nexus 4. But it happens.
I usually get the updates right away but sometimes I'll update the ota. I usually reflash the factory image every year after the beta. just seems odd how it corrupted the device. couldn't get into the system at all (or recovery/rescue modes).

apparantly it has something to do with Bluetooth? I don't know how, but if you can get into safe mode and disable Bluetooth, clear cache/data for it and update all your google service apps, it can fix it (keeping Bluetooth off while restarting phone in regular mode) - but I couldn't load Android.
The trick to getting into Safe Mode is this: Turn off the device. Hold down power and and as soon as you see the "G" Logo, hold volume down. it will directly boot you to Safe mode. cool little trick. you'll have to manually enable wifi because it gets turned off.
At this point, if you can, enable OEM Unlocking. at least you'll be able to save the device if anything serious happens (like what I went through). the pixel repair website also works but I couldn't get into "Rescue Mode"
