So, I just had my m9 replaced because the vibration module stopped working. Luckily I was s-off so I was able to get it back to stock for HTC's repair center.
The problem is, the one they sent me has a blown speaker out of the box. Even bigger problem is, I didn't think to check for problems with the speaker right away since I expect at least a little quality control, so I'm already rooted again.
Since I'd rather not pay 25 bucks to sunshine to get my phone back to root so I can send it in, is there a way to just turn disable one speaker? Even switching the balance completely over to the other would work. Any help or suggestions are appreciated
I'd seriously return it to stock and send it back, the htc's best feature of all other phones is its Sound, and im sure there's a way to return it to stock without sunshine
Hmm, I doubt they would make an issue out of non original software concerning a hardware problem. They certainly never done that before with my repairs and I've always send my phones back without stock.
We can't tweak anything that could cause the speaker to blow like that (AFAIK). So any argument they would make that it's being related to custom software is kinda bs.
Just send it back with the story you told here, that it came back from repair and the speaker was damaged. Just talk to support first and confirm that they won't make an issue out of it before sending it, just to be safe and sure

I have a problem with proximity or light sensor. During the call the screen locks itself and there is no way to use the phone, even to hangup unless i put the phone near the extreme light.
It may have been a coincidence but it started when i rooted the phone, pre-rooted rom from modaco, but today i also tried mcr and even restored original rom but to no luck. same things happening. What should i do? I dont want to be without the phone for weeks.
If you ot it as part of a phone contract, go up to your local shop, demonstrate the problem and ask for a new unit. (I would suggest unrooting first, as not to raise questions)
If you bought it from somewhere else, then you either have the option of hoping it's a software fault and wait for someone here to give you a fix, or send it back for repair to HTC.

Yeah i already unrooted, wondered if it was root/software related. Also it is under contract, have for a month now. Sad part, in NL they dont really exchange the phone, they usually send it. But i do have insurance, so they should give me another one. I dont wnt to go back to WM or uiq 3.

It was fine a couple of days ago and now it's completely dead.
The phone hasn't been dropped (well, tossed on a mattress/duvet when I'm heading to bed but not onto anything hard and from no great height), I haven't tempted fate by submerging it, I've properly nursed this phone and it's still died on me.
The one thing that I did do between it working and today was flash a different ROM.
I'm just wondering whether there's any chance that might've had something to do with it?
I went from '3.4.2 131-003' to '3.4.2-155-2'.
I know it's a long shot but that couldn't possibly be the cause, could it?
Many people have already complained about that problem (just google it!), return the phone (if your warranty isn't void because of the flashing, but i think it only affects software warranty), and they'll get you a new one. As far as I know, the newly produced defys don't have that defect anymore, mine - which I bought a couple of weeks ago - works just fine (fingers crossed!).
I'm aware that it's a known issue, I was asking because it seems that normally the earpiece gets crackly then dies whereas mine has gone from absolutely fine to completely dead in a couple of days with no usage in-between and the fact it happened after I flashed a new ROM seems coincidental to say the least.
As for the warranty, I have flashed ROMs, so fingers crossed.

I've the same problem.. no crackling, total silence. yesterday it worked perfectly fine, but since today no sound at all.
didn't do anything weird with it; flashed another froyo rom one week ago, but I can hardly imagine it has something to do with it...
I red there were more persons with a earpiece problem, but I couldn't find anyone who's got total silence from one moment to another..
is there info about this issue?

mine has gone from working to total silent the way mine was crackly was if i blew into it, it would work sometimes but now nothing at all i need to get a replaceable but dnt ave time
The problem is due to a bad connection, so I suppose it is possible it would break cleanly, going from working to silence with no interference/crackling.
I was just hoping I could fix it myself without having to rely on the Motorola warranty lottery
The fix-it-yourself thread is here. It's easily done if you are even mildly practical. I have sourced 2 SE K850i earpieces as a hedge against the future, once I'm out of warranty.
However, I am currently in warranty, so I sent an email regarding my Defy to Motorola as soon as my earpiece started acting-up. I tried to demand a replacement on the grounds that they were offering for sale devices that they knew were defective. Unfortunately, they were adamant that a repair was my only option so I sent my phone to their centre. I followed their advice, backing up, removing SIM and SD card, performing factory wipe from within Settings/Location & Security, and only sending the phone.
My phone had a custom ROM with the "android" text boot-loader so it was obviously not stock but there have been no complaints from them and I'm able to track my phone through their system. It's been repaired and is in "final testing". I'm expecting it back early next week.
Given the perceived "openness" of android, it would be a PR disaster for Motorola to void the hardware warranty on the grounds of software modification.

mmm, i have something to say ... i flashed lots of different roms, two weeks ago i went back to China 0.26, still one of the best in terms of performance BUT, i had some trouble with the earpiece.
The first time it happened i thought "ok my earpiece has gone", it was just silent, people could hear me and i could hear nothing. Surprisingly after a reboot the earpiece was working, then silence again the day after... so on for 3 - 4 times.
Then i flashed the 3.4.2-155 and the problem disapperead. No failure, no silence, after 10 days it still works.
So, could it be the problem was related to that specific rom or software i used?
Btw, did you try to flash back to your previous rom?
I got same issue last week, and my mobile operator change my phone by a new one.
It's a know pb with first MB525 products.
After flashing did-you remove back door and battery to power off/power on you phone ?
I think when we do that, we push on the back of phone and so increase earpiece failure risk.
Thanks, I'd seen that thread before but I'm still well inside my warranty and have no urge to risk voiding it any more than I potentially already have.
I have no qualms about having to send the phone back to Motorola, I just want to be sure it'll be fixed when I do is all.
It's a shame that Motorola don't allow third-parties to fix the handsets - I know an engineer that works for one of the UK high street mobile phone retailers and he says that any earpiece issues, they have to send the phones back to Motorola themselves, they can't even source the necessary parts.
If they could fix it, I wouldn't think twice about the ROM as I know he couldn't care less, he'd get it sorted for me.

Also, since the issue is known to be purely hardware and there are plenty of cases of it afflicting handsets that are entirely stock, they would leave themselves in a very shaky legal situation.
Personally, I think I'd prefer to have my current handset repaired instead of replaced as it seems to be a little gem in terms of battery life.
As for the warranty, I doubt I'll have this phone for more than a year or so.
Part of the reason I chose it was the excellent deal on the T-Mobile contract I'm on meaning that if I get the urge to 'upgrade' early, I won't feel bad about buying a second phone out of my own pocket.

No I haven't.
I only discovered the problem at work this afternoon and started this thread as soon as I got home.
I might give it a go over the weekend but part of me can't really be bothered, I might just send it away.

UK law only gives a customer a limited period after purchasing during which they can demand a replacement, after that a retailer is entitled to try and repair a faulty item if it is reasonable to do so.
Only if repairing the phone is in some way unsuccessful would the customer then be entitled to a replacement.

Let us know if Moto honor the warranty. It's very unreasonable to void hardware warranty just because of software modification.
My defy earpiece failed after 4 weeks. I had the orange 2.2 on the phone. Sent it to solidvision (they do warranty repair for motorola phones in belgium and netherlands). 3 weeks later they sent me a new phone, under warranty. On other sites I read that motorola doenst make a problem about earpiece issue even when you flashed other firmware.
So I handed my handset in to be sent away for repair on the 21st of March.
On the 18th of April I contacted CPW's repairs department to query where my handset was at 28 days had elapsed. The guy I spoke to raised a £10 voucher on their systems and put some sort of trace on it for me.
And on the 21st I was contacted by the store I'd handed my phone into to say it was back.
When I say 'it was back', it's not the same handset I sent away - it's a 'clearance' replacement handset. Thankfully my mate who works for CPW checked the handset's history on their systems and it's not a refurb, it was sat in a store for a month without being sold, then recalled to the warehouse so they had one to send to me.
I just hope this 'new' handset has as good a battery life as the one they kept...

I've tried alternate camera apps, and it doesn't fix the focusing issue.
So, I'd like to send this phone back under warranty. How is HTC's repair process? When they can't repair a phone (which they should be able to do), they will replace it with a refurbished phone.
So, I can either send the phone in to HTC, in which case they will probably repair it and send it back. If they are not able to fix it, which is unlikely, they will give me a refurbished version. I consider this option risky, because I either get my phone taken apart and

If you read the camera thread, it becomes clear that people are returning their device multiple times and a number of them are getting a LITEON brand sensor that has a green tint.

The process is really easy. I just got mine back on Wednesday. You won't get a refurb...you'll get your phone back. And, if you have any gaps or anything like that in the build of the phone, they'll be gone too. You won't have to return it multiple times if you go through HTC (using a Verizon exchange you might since they'll give you a refurb...maybe that's what this guy is talking about?) If you're s-off and unlocked, just relock and remain s-off.

The worry is that HTC will replace the camera with a bad sensor or something like the other guy said. I don't want to have a green tint on my camera after I get it back.

I definitely don't have any green tinting. From what I've seen, most people have been pleased with the results. I haven't seen the thread the other guy is talking about though. Here's a low light pic after repair.

I'm having the same issue and I went onto HTC's site to start a live chat session to get some info on repair/replacement process, but the chat window doesn't work in Chrome, Firefox, or IE. I then tried to use the email support form and that failed in all browsers too. Can anyone help supply info as I would prefer not calling in?
I'm really hoping that someone can come up with a solution to this problem. Back in September, my mother purchased a s6 edge+ under the At&t Next plan. Everything worked fine until November, when calls started dropping and people were saying that either they couldn't hear my mother or she couldn't hear them. There's also a lot of static when making calls.
The first thing we did was take the phone in to an AT&T store for repairs and they figured it was an issue with her sim card. After replacing the sim card, the problem went away, but eventually came back. Going back to the store a second time, a representative suggested taking it to tech support. We did and they couldn't do anything except get a warranty replacement. However, when the replacement came, it had the same issue.
Now my mother is practically ready to rip some heads because basically, no matter who higher up she talks to, they're saying that the only thing they can do is keep sending replacements. There's a complete refusal to offer a different type of phone or any other kind of help at all.
My question is does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it? If not, is there any other route she can take or is she stuck paying for a phone that is defective?

Well, the only thing you can do that I know of is to try and sell it like it is or for parts.
Be honest in the description but be satisfied with the income because its actually pretty high.
1. remove all personal info including all synced accounts to the phone
1a. Make sure you take the sim too
2. soft reset
3. hard reset
4. clear the cache on the device
5. reboot to make sure everything runs smoothly
buy a new phone.
That's what i'd do. Not a XDA expert. Maybe if you hold onto it for a few months a solution will come up.

There issue could either be, A - service where she is at is lacking for the phone, and/or it is how she's holding the phone; holding near the bottom by the base of the phone, it does cause interference with talking on it when using. Try having her holding near the middle to avoid call interruptions or even using a headphones for calling. Reason for holding it differently is because the antennas of our phones are located on the bottom, hence holding the bottom of the phone will cause call interruptions. Furthermore, the only thing that AT&T can do is offer a replacement.

For the most part, she uses a Bluetooth headset. I also use at&t and call quality is fine for my Nexus 6p
Yes, but she has a 6 E+ correct? As I said, the antenna of the phone is located on the bottom and thus holding the bottom WILL cause call quality to be little to none leading to dropped calls. It sucks so I use a headset to avoid that and/or I hold it differently. That is the only thing 'bad' about it.
Yes, yes, comparing 'other' phones isn't going to help to justify call quality; it's redundant. I gave the two best options to fix the issue; hold the phone differently than the bottom and if it still doesn't work normal, keep on bugging AT&T for replacement(s). Those are the options. If you don't like either of those, (just my hunch ?) sell it and hope to get enough money for a new phone.
I have an issue with my phones vibrator, it makes a loud rattling noise as it vibrates. Sounds like a loose piece of hardware in my phone. I have an RMA pending with HTC, but cannot find an RUU for the Bell Mobility Variant of the HTC 10 and i'm unsure of whether it matters or not if i send my rooted device in with a custom ROM or not, and whether they will still honor the limited warranty if it is sent in such a condition. It's definately a hardware issue, but i've never gone through the process. Has anyone done it, know whether it will matter or not if the problem proves to be hardware related, or a way to get my bell variant back to stock before i ship it back?

Hello, I have a similar problem, the vibration module is making rattling noise, something loose is inside probably. Did you succesfully repaired your phone with HTC?
I plan to contact HTC Poland tomorrow with this.
I couldnt get my phone back to stock so i had quite the fit with my provider until they sent me a new replacement which had a dead pixel, now have my third and finally seems to be the keeper.
