New to Verizon and LG G4? - Verizon LG G4

I finally got out of my [email protected] contract and came to Verizon...Thank God! I had always had Samsung phones and came to Verizon wanting a Note 4 or Note 5. I wanted a phone with SD slot but did not want a year old phone so I had really decided on the Note 5 until the Sales Rep. mentioned the G4. I own an LG TV and Frig and liked their products and since Verizon is giving me 14 days to test the G4 and if I do not like I can exchange I thought I would try it out. So far I love the phone but have had 1 problem when trying to connect to Wifi. My 1st attempt to connect to my home Wifi my G4 would not accept my PW. After repeated tries and turning phone Off and ON a few times it finally connected and have had no problem at home again. Today I was my Church and when I tried to connect to their WiFi I had same problem and never could get it to accept my PW. Have other people had this problem? Also would appreciate any other comments on dislikes or other problems( if any) you guys have seen with the G4. Wanting to really get all info I can on G4 while in my 14 day test period.
Thanks
Ron

Anyone having problems w data drops?

I just got this phone and im having problems w data connections. I had it rooted and then went back to stock. Still same problem
Spoke to TMobile and they said they will reset my account in their end. Wait 3 days and if still problem they waive restocking fee.
I like the phone but thinking of exchange for S5 if this is a common issue w G3

could be TMO issue....if you new to TMO...their coverage not as good as verizon.
This has been documented with the G3 and Tmo, where it says it's connected and has a data connection, but nothing is being sent or received. You either have to reboot or go into Airplane Mode and then back and you get the handshake again.
I had this problem during the first few weeks of getting the G3 (and also Tmo service), but lately, the last two weeks, I haven't had this problem either on my phone or my wife's G3, which was experiencing the same problem. Perhaps it cleared itself up or Tmo found out the problem with their G3 handsets, seeing as it was just released then. Also, I haven't seen any OTA updates, so it might be on Tmo's side.
Others have mentioned they experienced the same thing on Tmo service with their Note 3 or S4, so it might be a Tmo problem with their handshakes.
Yes thats the exact problem I'm experiencing.
So your phone corrected itself after a few weeks?
I've been on T-Mobile for years and last phone S4 and no problem

I haven't had to place my phone into Airplane Mode in a few weeks now, the data connection has held. Same with my wife's phone. We haven't received any updates, so I am assuming it might have been due to the G3 being just introduced on the Tmobile network and kinks were being worked out. Both of our phones are rooted, BTW, but I doubt that makes a difference, as others who had stock were having the same issues.
But, I had just joined Tmo with the G3, coming over from Sprint, so I can't say how the experience was before the G3. But on other threads here about the same problem, other Tmo users who had other phones (one being the Note 3) before using the G3, said they had the same problems with the data connections.

LG G4 WIFI Stuck Trying to Turn On

This is my second LG G4. The first device had an issue where it would not boot up completely and when it did it was not reading the LTE sim card. My wireless carrier swapped it out. This device was working fine the first day I got it but I noticed that downloads were slow, like updates through Google Play. After investigating I found that even though the device was connected to WIFI, it was downloading stuff over the mobile network. Then, I started having problems. If I restarted the device, the Wifi button that you use to turn on or off wifi would become stuck and continually blink as it was being clicked but wifi never would come on.
I have tried resets to factory state. In some instances, this would fix the issue, but only temporarily. The issue would soon begin to happen again. There was even one reset where the device going through the setup process could not turn on wifi.
I think this may be a hardware issue but dread going up to the carrier store. I am past my 14 day period. They had to order me a new phone from the warehouse because they did not have any reconditioned devices but I don't really understand how it is okay for them to give out reconditioned devices for something that should be covered under the manufacturers warranty. I also don't understand why they cannot swap it out with the stores stock. When they ordered the last one, they told me 3-5 business days. This was on a Monday. Apparently something happened and the device never got ordered so Thursday when I called to check on the status of the device, I was told they had to do the order again. I was without a device on their service for eight days which in my opinion is also ridiculous.
I just really dread going up there and dropping my phone off for one of them to say we did a hard reset to fix it, and then I bring it right back home and it happens again and I have to go back up there. Something tells me LG didn't do a lot of QC when they were manufacturing these devices.
I wanted to know if anyone else had the wifi issue I have described above?
Just started happening to me today..wifi icon in status bar blinks like a stop light on crack and it won't turn on or connect to any wifi. gonna go to a sprint store to try to exchange it I'll let you know what happens

I hope you have no issues exchanging it. I got the same guy that supposedly originally ordered the replacement device the first time. Normally they make you come back an hour later but he rushed right out and said, "Your device is defective." and gave me the same spiel about how it is two new and they don't have any reconditioned devices so a new one would arrive from the warehouse in 3-5 business days.
The only reason I am still using Sprint is because they can get signals in places like hospital emergency rooms that the other providers can't because of the 800mhz. I seem to recall, but maybe my imagination is inventing something, that when I had issues with devices on "T" and Verizon that they swapped the devices out of existing store inventory, but I could be wrong.
At first I thought the issue was software related. Also, This will be the third time I have to buy a glass screen protector. The first one I got from Amazon. They never offered to replace it, although they should replace it. The second one, I got when they replaced my device. Today the dude tells me he can transfer my glass. Never heard of that happening without issues.
So sprint will exchange it cause I've only had the phone for5 days but i have to go to a different store to exchange it cause my store doesn't have any left with black leather..so back to the g2 running cloudy3.3 till i can go to a different store

Bootloop issues on 13B....Due to motherboard

As most of you know its an issue with phones with a serial of 505 and H/W Rev 1... Didn't know it would happen on Verizon or not... Well i can confirm it. Was browsing YouTube and it randomly froze. Now all it does it bootloop. Verizon was cool to deal with on the issue and didn't try to claim it wasn't a problem.
Surprised no one has asked or said anything...
That sucks. I got a 507 serial, so I hope I will be spared. But it will be difficult if you paid off the phone and are not associated with Verizon anymore. Then you have to mail the phone to LG, and I heard their repair service is pretty spotty.
Still under manufacturer warranty. I am thinking of buying out the phone and going to Googles project fi. Verizon is getting too expensive and big for their britches....
I have a 505 but I am still on he original firmware. I think it is the 10B. Is it the firmware version that causes the problems? I have delaying the update since I got the phone in November.

100% sure the answer is no - firmware has nothing to do with it. I had a 505 since the day it was released and I was still running 10B too when the dreaded bootloop issue hit my device a couple of weeks ago. I know others who were running upgraded firmware on Verizon and they got the bootloop issue too.
Yup i got the issue of it bootlooping. I got my replacement every time i do alot of thi gs on my first g4 it will freaze and reboot then a bootloop for a bit
Happened to me in Thursday night. Got my replacement today. I was on rooted 13B on 505

I have been kickin around the idea of switching to project FI also because Verizon is so damn expensive. But I still have my unlimited plan with Verizon, also I am concern with poor coverage.
I also just got mine back from warranty repair this weekend,
The coverage is a little less abundant than Verizon. I noticed I've used less data since going to project Fi. I don't feel like I need to get my moneys worth out of my plan every month.
My Verizon LG G4 505x/v1.0 hardware "pre-order" hit the bootloop issue today. It started with a random reboot while I was going to lunch, another reboot a minute later, then 30 seconds of straight vibrating, then... dead. I've gotten it to show a battery symbol when plugging it in since then, and now it does the same bootloop everyone has mentioned. I've started a replacement via Best Buy's Geek Squad, otherwise I have to mail the phone out to LG, wait for them to assess it, then send me one back. It's already 5-7 days because they're backlogged... which makes me wonder if tons of these have started failing or if stock is just low because the V10 came out a while back.
Does anyone know if Best Buy or Verizon can connect (JTAG method?) to the old phone and extract data from internal storage when it's stuck like this?
LG g4 verizon stuck in bootloop. Pretty much the same thing, I was using an app and it froze and now is stuck.
After a few phone calls Verizon is replacing the device. It was painful though. I had to play dumb and act like I was doing everything "tech" support asked me to do. Even though I already tried everything.
Now the question is with my phone being rooted will they still replace it. Ive had to do a warranty replacement a couple years back and didnt have a problem. Ill update everyone.
This happened to mine about a month ago. I don't know what the serial number was on it, but I got it at Launch. My wife's G4 started having this problem on Friday and her serial number starts with 506. VZW is shipping another.

I sent mine back, it was rooted so we'll see if Verizon charges.
Temporary fix that might work for you guys
I decided to see if I can get my data off my phone using any means necessary and I do mean any means necessary. I was able to get my data off my phone by baking the motherboard. I've included a crappy YouTube video that I made in order to show you that it does work. Hope this helps people out that want to get their data off the phone before they throw it away.

Verzion note 7 activation, switch

I am heading to New York in early December for a few days. I have a Note 7 as my primary phone. I know i cannot take it with me on an airplane.
I was considering switching to another device but am afraid that when i go to switch back, it won't work.
Another idea is that on the Verizon webpage it has the option to let you switch phones between lines on your account. I could switch phones for the few days and switch back afterwards... but the same thing... will it not work when i attempt to switch?
Has anyone with Verizon as their carrier tried this or something similar?
thanks
p.s. This post is not an invitation to the haters and trolls who comment worthless things about turning the phone in. Go back to your safe spaces... the grown ups are talking

You can switch the SIM back and forth. As long as the IMEI on the Note 7 is not blacklisted it will work. I still have my Note 7 and I got an LG V20 and my SIM is in my LG G3 and I can switch between them all no problem.
Don't you have to call in to have them activated every time you change to a different phone?

Why would you need to do that lol?
You paid for the phones and are paying for the service its your decision which device to use...I go back and forth between phones all the time..

I also thought you had to call in to Verizon. SIM switching without calling would make it a whole new ball game. I would have been afraid you'd never get it reactivated if taken out of service at all.
Just sim switch and let it complete it's provisioning steps. You only need to call if there is an issue with the 4g sim not provisioning. Then they can add it on manually. Ill be doing that with my n4 when traveling.

I was under the impression that any time you moved a sim from one phone to another you had to call Verizon for them to activate the sim on the phone you switched to. Pretty sure I am not the only one who thought this. If you can just swap the sim between phones, well of course this would be nice and make keeping the N7 as a daily driver and switch to a different phone when flying or travelling doable.

Well Im in canada and no such BS exists here...that sounds completely unreasonable though
I'm experiencing the SAME issue. Yesterday there was a snow storm here in NY and while I was playing games on my note 7 out of nowhere my data went out. I checked through "Mobile Data" settings to ensure it's on, toggled airplane mode, restarted, even pulled the sim and put it in my Note 5 but I'm experiencing the same issue.
My next step was one of two options:
A) I call verizon to re-activate my Note 5 with my SIM I swapped in from the Note 7 (but i'm afraid they'll recognize I still have my "refunded" Note 7.
B) Edit the APN Network information cuz .... idk I was trying "everything"
But, as teegunn said, I have to call Verizon to have them switch my account to my note 5. I checked their website and it wont let me do it through there, it says to call.
Anyone ever figured out if we can swap here in the US without an issue?
I love my note 7 too much to let it go....

I was hotlined (for the first time) on the 30th... it took multiple online chats, phone calls, and ultimately a trip to the nearest Verizon store to get a new sim card (they had cut service to both my Note7 sim and my Note 4 sim) to get up and running on my old Note 4. I waited a few days and, borrowing some confidence from @tricktaylor, used Verizon's online portal to reactivate my Note7, with the original sim card, like it was any other device.
I was hotlined again last night (at least, that's when I noticed it) and all it took was a quick online chat this morning to switch service back to my Note 4. I'll wait a few days before trying to reactive my Note7 unless someone reports back, in the interim, that the wait-time is unnecessary.
Im literally switching to N4 right now. Hope all goes well. I said I'm returning the N7 but i have no plans to. I don't know when I'll be switching back to N7, I don't want to go through this once a week. But at some point they'll have to give up and at this point I'll wait them out for spite.
---------- Post added at 08:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:37 PM ----------
Im back to n4... for the time being but I'm sure there's nothing stopping from switching back to N7 right now. At some point they will have to stop doing these imei checks. Stay strong they'll quit or someone smarter than I will come up with a solution on our side...
Screw it.
I'm impatient. I trimmed my Note 4 micro sim down to a nano sim. I'm popping it into my Note7. And...
IT'S ALIVE!
I gotta try that. I'm scared to cut mine. dont they still see its an imei of a n7?
I switch my VZW sim to at least 5 different phones including the Note 7 and never had to call it in and it just works.

It appears as though they're not actively monitoring which devices are being used or activated, they are just conducting sporadic sweeps to temporally deactivate SIM cards presently used in conjunction with Note7's. Once the SIM is activated with a different device, or once the Note7 is activated with a different SIM, you're good to go.

So last I updated this I ordered a free sim from Verizon for my n7. They sent it I piped it in and it's working.

Keeping the Verizon Note 7 alive

Guys,
I don't know how many of us are left but I'm sure the numbers are few and I believe this might be the best forum on the interwebs for this. I have a serious question and I want a place I can get some ongoing feedback and interaction and I know you are up to the task!
My Onyx Black Note 7 (bestest/most favortitist phone I've ever held) was summarily hotlined late last month. I was successful in getting it turned back on only to have it happen again 1 week later. SAD. I re-activated my Note 3 and now have two devices I use daily which seems really dumb. I WANT MY NOTE 7 BACK!!! I have been reading about trimming SIM cards down to fit and see that some have had promising results.
I contacted a buddy who works in a Verizon corporate store and he said that trimming my Micro SIM, from my active Note 3, to Nano size and putting it in my Note 7 would work...but not for long. They will eventually hotline me again (darn IMEI).
So...who has done/tried this? How did it go? How long did it last?
After the big trim, my SIM won't work in my Note 3 any longer and I'll have to get a replacement. This doesn't sound like a game I want to play till Fall.
I would like to believe that at some point they might stop the hotline game but it's probably wishful thinking.
Thanks Team.
i kept mine too and it does make a cool little tablet. if i could get it back on verizon's network i most definitely would do so.
but another issue is this: i took the replacement and therefore have the PHE firmware and am unable to root. but even if i could root, who would put together a ROM for such a device? there are only a handful of people who are in this boat. but that said, root for the PHE firmware would be nice to have...
I recently just let my phone go. It isn't worth it in the end, unless you take the phone to another network or really, really want to deal with with the company as a whole. My phone was hot lined, just like everyone else's. I had another rep take the hotline off, and had the note working again for about a week till it was turned off again. After emailing the CEO, and eventually talking to corporate office, the woman over the phone offered me, at best, a free certified S4 with a $20 increase to my line access fee for a 2-year contract. This option would have costed me the price of another Note7 in the end. At that point, going up in the chain isn't going to get you a refund, nor will they allow the phone to work on the network.
In the legal realm, Verizon can't hot line a phone because they "feel like the device is dangerous". They can't hot line a phone because "they want too" either. They can only hot line a phone under whatever clauses warrant it. If you bring this information to a Verizon rep, and ask them to provide prove that the US CPSC specifically is forcing all cell phone companies to hotline the phone...blah blah blah they'll tell you cool get a lawyer and go up the chain. Even mentioning the term "voluntary" recall triggers them. The store i went into, actually just to give someone a hard time over the whole thing, physically stepped away from me when he saw my phone and the look on his face was utter disgust, like what am I still doing with it? But, whatever.
Beyond all the legality, the system itself is auditing accounts with valid ID's. Note7 IMEI's that is. If the system catches one on an active line, the phone will get hot lined. At that point, you have to find a tech rep who will switch it off, or just reactivate the device. Nobody knows how often or how long the system audit will stay on for, but its there and that can not be avoided. With the system in place, AND fighting an entire company who doesn't want another liability issue, its just over.
The two solutions that current work: Fight the system, or bring the phone to a prepaid network. I'm sorry, and I wish I could offer you more help. I mean hell, I was given the device for free and I still fought to keep using it. Long after the whole thing went down with the recall and everything.
Thanks for the replies.
Yeah it sucks.
I pre-ordered mine, spent week setting it up perfectly only to have to return it a month later. I then followed every forum and had every conceivable block in place in the end, to avoid some crippling malady (so far still 100% charging, no nag screen. Did these happen to any Verizon customers?) Then came the dreaded hotline. The first time I was hit, they directed all of my outgoing calls to my personal voice mail message making it impossible to even call customer support. I had to borrow a phone to call in.
And now... it's a gorgeous, joy to hold wi-fi tablet.
My hope is that they will stop this hotline nonsense at some point and I can do the SIM swap. I have read a couple of posts that swapping back and forth isn't all that difficult but even so, sounds like a PITA.
In the end I'm just sad about the whole situation but I'm sure a new and improved Note will lift my spirits and all will be right in my world again.
Cheers
has anyone done the rooting for the note 7 and had it fail in odin process what do i do so i may proceed and get it rooted successfully?
I'm doing the same exact thing as you: Using two devices daily.
I use my cracked Galaxy S4 for call & SMS (which is rarely) and my Note 7 for everything else.
Just waiting till the day I can buy the Galaxy S8 and only have to carry around one device.
My solution for using my VZW Note 7 was to put my tmobile sim in it. I got the Note 7 via work but always used it with my personal tmobile sim. I use my note 7 every damn day and have not been updated, blocked or even charge limited. I love my Note 7. I did get a V20 to replace it but that phone is horrid. I'll never give up my N7.
[A note 3 SIM won't work because it's too big, the chip part is larger than the entire Note 7 SIM. Those that have done this are using Note 4 or later SIMs.
Based on my research, you can successfully trim a Micro SIM down to a Nano SIM. You do have to cut through the metal but it will work.
Now another question; are you going to jump on an S8 (or plus) or wait till the Fall and hopefully a new Note?
Is Verizon's method based on the phone IMEI or build.prop device name? With root it's easy to change the build.prop and with Xposed there's an IMEI change module. Would this work?
I have 3 Note 7's, non are rooted yet. Not sure which updates they have but I'm going to try.

Exactly what I'm doing. Signed up for T-Mobile one and using their sim. I plan on using it till the note 8 is released
Went the whole month of February suspended, then I activated a s7 and switched the sim over to the n7. Been working since the first. Returned the s7, holding out til the s8 plus has been out awhile before jumping to that.

Hello Oyeve,
I was hotlined by Verizon and that was the last straw after a dozen years of business with them. I am thinking of doing the same thing as you, but I don't want to scare T-Mobile and run into the same hotline problem. How's it going on T-Mobile with your Verizon Note 7 since your post here?
Thanks,
