Hi,
I've currently got a HTC One M8 running Android 5.0.1 and Sense 6. I'm about to root it, I've backed up my apps, contacts etc. using the HTC backup app, I just wanted to know if after rooting my phone (I'm staying on Sense 6) I'll be able to use the recovery option to recover all my apps and data,
Thanks,
PJRaphael

Ok, i was really pissed at HTC beause of the whole HTC Hero 2.1 issue, but since i got the offer to get an HTC Desire for only 300 Euros without contract i couldn't say no.
Now i have a few questions for those people who already have the Desire:
1. I know that i can use some kind of .apk to be able to switch to the regular Android home. Will HTC Sense then start less apps on startup? Because as far as i know, you won't be able to use HTC Widgets with the regular Android home so i was hoping that this also means less stuff being automatically started all the time (like HTC Footprints).
2. Does rooting the TMobile HTC Desire already work? How complicated is the process? I'm not a smartphone newbie, but haven't rooted an Android device yet.
3. I read that rooting the Desire caused some "random bricking" even if everything was done correctly. Is this issue still there?
4. If i root my device, and install FroYo, what will happen if there is a new update? Can i install new updates OTA or do i have to wait until the community provides the new version?
5. How easy is it to switch back to stock rom, if i realize that i prefer HTC Sense?
Thanks for your Help!

THERE IS THE POSSIBILITY TO START WITH SENSE UI OR STANDARD ANDROID HOME.

DON'T WORRY ABOUT ROOTING. IT'S EASY FOR A "NORMAL" SMARTPHONE USER THAT HAVE A GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF LINUX WORLD.

YOU CAN GO-BACK TO OFFICIAL HTC ROM USING RUU SOFTWARE
5. How easy is it to switch back to stock rom, if i realize that i prefer HTC Sense?
VERY EASY USING RUU
Hello,
I was wondering is there an official way from HTC (or an app) to migrate everything from HTC Hero to HTC Desire ? (like android to android)
i found many apps in the market but nothing does 100% unless it needs root.
what i want to achieve is:
migrate apps (found many backup apps that does it)
migrate apps data/history/stores/etc.. (found some backup apps that does it)
migrate everything related to Sense UI such as settings, theme changes etc.. (found one only one app but needs root!)
Please advise
Thank you
I think that mybackup does everything you need,no root even UI.but i think that the free version is limited to one phone so to transfer from hero to desire you need to buy it. First backup hero, transfer SD to desire and restore

Hi - I have a HTC Desire (T-Mobile UK - which seems to be different to other HTC Desires in functionality/menu options).
I did an upgrade to Froyo (official, OTA version) and it restored my contacts after the upgrade.
I did a factory reset (for another issue) and assumed it would restore my contacts but it didn't!! The data must be there but how do I get it to do the restore???
On the Desire with froyo no more data backup and restore at the moment..u can sync contacts with gmail

Thanks. Are you absolutely sure? I ask because when I loaded froyo it restored my data...at least that's what it said it was doing!
I'm sure:

When u loaded froyo, u still have backup feature because was in 2.1, now that u have froyo, when u did factory reset there is no backup feature (at the moment, we will hope in next htc updates).
So, I keep converting the HTC One M8 to GPE and back to Sense using the RUU.
I'm wanting to go back to GPE for a bit, 5.0.1 but i use the HTC Backup to restore
messages, contacts and so on without me having to do in manually (which is annoying).
I want to know if the HTC Backup app will work on the GPE Lollipop version and if so,
Could you link me to the apk i can use?
Thanks , appreciated.

Couldn't find anything else about this but i found another thread that was never responded.

EDIT: !!
I RUU'd into the GPE Version of 5.0.1 Lollipop and i tried the HTC Backup , side loaded and it crashed, so, no, It won't be able to restore all my stuff (Bad HTC).
I wanted to avoid having to wipe and re-install my apps and messages, But yeah, it will crash.
(This for future reference for anybody else with the same question)
I created a Download link for those who want it:

Wish I'd seen this earlier....
I flashed GPE Plus+ today (http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one/development/rom-google-play-edition-lollipop-v1-00-t2963927)
My only backup was with HTC Backup, because it's been so reliable before...
UGH!!!
(AT&T HTC One M7 - carrier lock removed (legally), rooted, still using AT&T on active SIM, getting ready to move to TING)
Hello people.
I made an upgrade to marshmallow from android 5.0.1, but before doing that I did an HTC Backup. Now I'm trying to restore my backup using the HTC Restore app and the system integrated HTC Backup but both of them say that there's no backup at all.
I have been trying for two days without luck, what should I do? My HTC Backup is lost forever? I will appreciate any help.
HTC backup has been removed in 6.0 , you should have used HTC Sync desktop software to backup your device before upgrading to 6.0. I am afraid you may not be able to restore your backup.
