No root button replacements? - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

Hi all,
I dropped my tablet and seems to have bent the frame enough so the power button and lowering volume on the volume button no longer work. I know there are plenty of apps to simulate these buttons but they are all for rooted phones. However, if I want to use this tablet for work, I can't root it. Is there a no root alternative? Or perhaps a ROM that is not rooted, but has a built in restart option? I don't need any samsung apps, I just need the s pen to work but I use Lecture Notes. (Screen on/off its handled by magnetic cover, volume by built in menu, so only restart is missing after broken buttons).
If anyone has any ideas please let me know.
Thanks!

[Q] Broken Power Button

Have an DInc2 with a broken power button (doesn't work/respond, but phone will turn on when receiving a phone call) and phone is out of warranty. Are there any alternatives to powering on the device such as a USB wake command (this phone is non-rooted) or any other suggestions?
You can get a new button on Ebay. I have not done it but have read about others successfully repairing the power button.

You can root it and get button replacement like saviour
You might be able to set volume wake up though I'm assuming you're stock and I haven't used that since I got the phone
Easy wake is what you'd want to enable widget locker has an option for it and so do some roms
Also you can set widget locker to lock on search long preas
Theoretically there are other options like external hardware
Button replacement is a good idea if it won't respond at all otherwise once you turn it off it becomes a paperweight

[Q] Can I disable the power button

At least while the phone is running, is there any way for me to disable the power button? I often watch something on the screen in landscape and I really hate how easy it is for that button to be pressed either locking the screen or bringing up the power menu. Since I can do all those things via software I am looking for a way to disable this button completely while the phone is running. It of course still needs to be able to turn the phone on but I dont think that can be changed.
I can't just disable the volume rocker instead as I use a flip case and this is the side it rests on.
Any ideas?
Installed Jedi XV12 a few days ago and have been loving it. Falling in love with my phone all over again.

[Q] How to disable random reboots by pressing power button in pants pocket?

I love this phone! But one thing is really annoying.
I keep this phone in my jeans pocket, but often while walking I hear the reboot sound. The power button is pressed in my pocket. And if this happens long enough, the phone will reboot, even when the phone was locked...
Is there a way to disable this behaviour?
If you install Widget Locker Lockscreen I think you can disable Power button at lockscreen but I don't use this app anymore for several months.
That's a paid app. Seems excessive just to disable this annoying behaviour
seems weird to me. I never had a reboot when phone was in my pocket. Prior to note 2 I had a S2 with same power button construction and behavior, and never expriened this.
Do you use a silicon protecting case? Those cases put a small but excessive pressure on side buttons thus a little push will trigger buttons.

No, I'm using it bare.
Hold your phone, locked with the screen off, and keep holding the power button. You'll see that it'll start rebooting.
I'm not wearing skinny jeans or anything like that, the phone has plenty of room in my pocket... But apparently it's enough to press the button e.g. while driving with my seat belt on.
The annoying thing is that I sometimes don't hear it rebooting and then I'm unreachable for hours until I look at my phone and input the sim code again. Now that I think of it, I think I'll disable sim code input, that will at least connect me again after a reboot.
The problem apparently already existed with the Note 1:

On further googling, this actually is the soft reset feature!!
There goes my hope of disabling it...
EDIT: Another happy user: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1401852
I guess it would be possible to disable soft reset, but you'd need to build a kernel with the feature.

Try this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nezdroid.lockscreenprotector
Hi all i made an app to avoid this, blocking power menu on lockscreen no need of root working on 2.2+ and you can set up a custom menu (power and reboot need root) so you should take a look and if you like please leave a 5 stars, or let me know any issues
this is only for lockscreen , when you are outside lockscreen you have the normal power menu
here its the link to play store

EDIT
Or with a rooted phone:
Once the phone is rooted, you install an app called Root Explorer which you get from the Google Play Store.
With this app, do the following please
Go to system > usr > keylayout
Find seckey.kl
Made backup from seckey.kl file.(copy paste in same place then rename or paste to other folder)
Change seckey.kl permission to become 0777, so we can edit the file.
Using text editor open secky.kl
find
KEY 116 POWER WAKE
edit to become
KEY 116 POWER
Save the change
Change seckey.kl permission back to 0655
Reboot the device

If my phone was rebooting in my pocket I would guess a ROM issue before imaging I'd pressed the power button too long.
Perhaps it's time to charity shop those skinny jeans.
Just in case somebody out there running a custom ROM has got the same problem and looks for an easy workaround:
There is a Xposed Module that allows you to modify the power button menu to your preferences and also to completely disable it when the phone is locked.
I have not tested it yet and it is unfortunately discontinued by the developer, but it looks pretty solid to me.
It was intended to run on Sony Xperia devices, but also works on many other devices with AOSP based ROMs.
ATTENTION: It does NOT WORK for TOUCHWIZ ROMs although you can install it to them via Xposed Installer!
Head over to the Advanced Power Menu XDA-Thread.
Cheers!

Button remapping?

A friend broke his phones power button.
Is there any way to remap power to another button?
And if there is would it work for turning on the phone?
Sent from my SPH-L720 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
He might just have to use the home button to turn it on, and download a sleep button from the play store. That's probably the easiest way.
Yes there are several ways to awake the phone. But Broken Power button will post a lot more challenges if you happen to turn off the phone. Best have it repaired.
the power button does work kinda (its super sensitive if you slide your finger over it without pushing it down, it will activate).
say i disable it while the phone is turned on would i still be able to turn the phone on with it?
So long physically its working fine, the button will turn on the phone from power off state. Any mods you do to disable it will only affect when Android is operational. Some of the Roms for the S3 do allow to change the button that will awake the phone. Typically the home button will be the alternate choice. Also there are apps in Play Store that do this as well.
thanks for all the help i really appreciate it

[Q] Control tab with remote?

I'm trying for a more permeate install of my galaxy tab3 and the main issues I'm facing will be no access to the following:
Home button
Power button
Volume buttons
Are there any options for a remote control with either the galaxy s4 rooted phone or just a standard remote control?
Again just to clarify, I do not want to use the tab as a remote, but use a remote too control the tab. Thanks all!
Use a Bluetooth input device like a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse. Even those not specifically made for android will work, a mouse's right button will work as a back button, a keyboards windows button should work as home and esc should work as back...

What about powering on once it's powered completely off? I know there's apps to power off that sort of solve the problem, but how would I turn it back on without access directly to the power button?
Even if i just leave it on until it dies, which I'm sure isn't good for it, once it is connected to power it doesn't just turn on, you get that charging screen and the power button still needs to be pressed.
