Stuck on white screen, recovery not loading, radio_v2 Fail-PU - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone got stuck on white screen after a reboot by itself one day just lying on the desk, without any recent flashing or updates. I had CM7, Hboot 0.79, S-OFF. I am able to get to Hboot and Fastboot, but Recovery doesn't work (gets stuck on white screen). "Clear storage" from Hboot didn't help. I manually flashed boot.img and recovery.img but to no avail.
I finally tried flashing RUU from here . Everything flashed OK except for radio_v2 which failed with FAIL-PU. I downloaded the RUU again and also tried other RUU versions with the same result. I also tried manually flashing just the radio from Fastboot but every attempt ends with FAIL-PU and a message "partition update fail". I start suspecting it may be a corrupted eMMC. Do you guys have any other ideas?

[Q] Boot Loop and No recovery console

Hi,
I have become really stuck with this issue
ROM - 2.29.405.2
I origonally had a rooted phone with clockworkmod installed. I subsequently wanted to put it back to stock. Which i ran the latest RUU with the goldcard. I now am getting a continuous white HTC screen then vibrates and keeps doing this. No matter what i do i cannot get the phone into the recovery menu it just starts the reboot loop again.
I can get on fastboot and resend the same RUU to the phone. This installs without any issue and says that it is going to reboot the phone and going straight back to the rebooting loop.
I somehow need to get clockworkmod reinstalled so i can resolve this problem as it seems that the recovery partition is damaged somehow. I have s=on so i cannot force the restore of the recovery console with the colckworkmod as i get signature failure.
Is there an origional HTC recovery file i can use which gets past the signature failure??
"Clear storage" from HBOOT.
And give a try to the other way - download this zip , rename it "PB99IMG.zip" put it in the root of your SD card (not in a folder) , pull battery , plug it back , enter HBOOT (power+volume down) and apply it.
Edit: use goldcard if you are branded. If I understand you correctly, you say this "I subsequently wanted to put it back to stock. Which i ran the latest RUU with the goldcard" - if you flashed your original stock ROM, then you didn't need a gold card.
Branded
Yes i am branded.
Sure i tried this last time where it showed a blue meter on the right hand side. Went all the way and rebooted to the same if i rememeber.
But i will give it another go see if it works. Cheers.
I managed to get it to run the PB99IMG in the end which updated all parts without an issue. On rebooting of the phone it still does it boot loop.
I really done know what is causing this.

RUU Error code 110

Hello,
I've had some strange issues with my phone lately, random reboots, hangs etc.
I was s-off by Alpharev and running Oxygen!
Trying to sort of this issues I wanted to reset the phone completely by installing the default RUU and start over again.
I downloaded all European RUUs as I didn't know which one to use. The problem is, I have tried them all now, but they all fail with error code 110. The code appears when copying the system files, at about 70 percent.
All I've got now is the silver HTC logo and some icons in each corner when I try to start it. I have lost both fastboot and recovery meny it seems.
Anyone have any suggestions? Hope I didn't f*** my phone completely!
Thanks in advance.

need to have the right ruu and then flash some nice tut on above links.
another way to do is to use PB99IMG file extracted from ruu (be sure you got the right one)
depend on the stock firmware was on device. U do need to remember.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22152187/How to Extract the ROM from an RUU.doc
hope this help
Use this.. and do a MD5 check with below for donwloaded file
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.exe
MD5 14d740a8ec68bd8cc830ff7c0905df72
Coz I think you are flashing OTA files and not the full ROM.. Try above
I have downloaded and tried the Rom you suggested but still no luck. This are the numbers described in the updater: 2.29.405.5 to 2.29.405.2.
Now I got another error message at the end; Error 152 (rom error) Says it can't update the phone!
Any other suggestions?
As I've said, can't get into either fastboot or recovery!
After I disconnect the usb cable the white "fastboot" screen appear with the installation info:
Stops at (6) system - Fail-PU - Partition update fail!
Format your memory card as 1 single FAT32 partition

I haven't had my SD-card in the phone when trying to sort this things! Do I really need to?
I tried it just now with a formated sd-card. Same error.
Tried this as well:
so i got it to boot using this method
download the android sdk
then use cmd prompt on windows
type
cd\
cd\<your directory>\android\tools
fastboot oem boot
The phone then went into the white screen with the green htc logo, but nothing else happened! When I restarted the phone it went straight into the silver logo screen again...
hi,
if so type
Code:
fastboot oem eraseconfig
the try flashing Ur Ruu
hope this help

[Q] Marvel Soft Brick - Strange Behaviours

Apologies if this has been discussed already, I've searched plenty but wasn't able to find this exact scenario.
I have a PG76120 that shipped with locked HBOOT 0.90 and S-ON. I set out with the goal of unlocking the bootloader via HTCDev. The update RUU for failed but I was able to flash the 2 zips separately through the bootloader.
After the rom_01 file (the one that contains radio 7.54.39.08M) I noticed HBOOT was reporting S-OFF so I decided to see what exactly I could do with it. I flashed CWM, made a nandroid, and tried a couple of 2.3.3 ROMs, none of which worked (I imagine because the bootloader was still locked).
I restored stock from nandroid and flashed rom_02 (the one that contains HBOOT 1.08.0099 and radio 7.53.39.03M) and unlocked the bootloader. Thiking that secu_flag is stored in the radio image and that since the rom_01 image reported as S-OFF it might have been unlocked) I then flashed rom_01 again. It didn't S-OFF but it did update the radio.
So: HBOOT 1.08.0099
Radio 7.54.39.08M
***UNLOCKED*** & S-ON with CWM as recovery.
At this point I gave up on the idea of having a custom ROM and decided to flash stock 2.3.5. I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1485345 and flashed it via clockwork. This has caused my problems:
The first time I flashed I had an error a couple of people in the thread were having: phone wouldn't boot past first HTC screen when it went to CWM with "E:invalid command argument". I cleared data/cache/dalvik and reflashed which solved the problem, but has left me in the current situation:
Phone will not boot into recovery, or past initial HTC screen unless the USB cable is plugged in. It bootloops showing the HTC logo and a brief rumble.
If the cable is plugged in it will boot to the new rom and to recovery no trouble, but as soon as you take the cable out it resets and starts bootlooping.
If I put the cable in so that it progresses past the initial HTC screen, but then take it out before it completes launching it's fine, but as soon as the cable goes in it resets and starts bootlooping.
Neither the operating system nor recovery can mount the sdcard. HBOOT can detect update files on the sdcard.
Official RUUs will not flash, they say ERROR 155 (EDIT: RUU Security Fail! Update Fail!)
I also cannot pass them to HBOOT as PG76IMG (it detects the file but is dissatisfied with its contents and aborts).
I cannot flash them via fastboot (signature not found). I can flash CWM again just to make sure its not borked (and I've done that).
I cannot flash anything via recovery as it cannot see my sdcard.
WTF is going on here? :/
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
Update: I've managed to flash an official RUU by relocking HBOOT with
fastboot oem lock
And passing it as P67GIMG.zip on my Goldcard. The same strange rebooting behaviour continues! Is it possible that I have genuinely damaged its hardware?
Is there any possibility this has to do with a corrupt misc partition?
I was able to fix the sdcard issue with fastboot oem enableqxdm 0. The phone can see the sdcard but will not identify itself to the computer over USB. To get files onto it I need to bluetoothe them from my GS2.
If so, could someone please post their misc partition from a functioning 3G Marvel?
Thx

"error [152]: Image update error

Hi,
could any one help me please,
since I bought my phone I can not flash any rom other than CM7.
the problem, I thought the best solution is to go back to stock>
thats why I tried to flash the following rom and I forgot that my hone is still s-off:
RUU_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.67.651.3_Radio_2.15.00.12.19_NV_2.33_release_234563_signed
and I ended up by the following issue:
"ERROR [152]: IMAGE UPDATE ERROR
When I unplug the usb cable from my phone this is what my phone reads
RUU
Parsing...[downloaded ZIP]
[1] BOOT - Fail-PU
[2] RECOVERY - OK
[3] SYSTEM - OK
[4] USERDATA - OK
[5] SPLASH1 - OK
[6] WIMAX -OK
Partition update fail!
Update Fail!"
After I pull the battery and turn my phone back on it just has a black screen. Says HTC in the middle and there are four Exclamation Points in triangles in each corner.
Can someone please help meby solving this issue? I dont mind to reinstall CM7 but how??? I cant open the recovery or the bootloader????

Only blackrose can be flashed!!

htc desire a8181
frig trying to identify no sound through earphone speaker is getting weird
With trying a few different roms, I've also tried flashing a few hboots from the desire custom hboot thread:
Apparently Since flashing the 220/16/200 one I cant flash hboots anymore and recovery keeps (4ext) keeps getting probs with screen distortions etc.
Hboot reports 145 system and massive cache (120 from memory)
When I try to flash replacement standard hboot size via fastboot get a failed message and on phone says 'only blackrose can be flashed'
Not aware of installing 'blackrose' although I've seen the nexus threads with similar problems, and I've never owned a nexus or flashed one.
Managed to get one nandroid to recover with cooldroid v3 on, but 4ext still reports weird partition sizes which cooldroid shouldnt run in.
WTF?
Help
OK tried to replace 4ext with twrp - image update error
Tried to nandroid recovery old backup 'failed to unmount system
Tried PB99IMG - failed
going from bad to worse.
tried
Looking for advice before attempt flash different recovery eg CWM as 4ext is at least still partially working
Clear now
after blackrose trahed it
The rogue 4ext boogered it further
Even got to the stage where it was saying no sd card, despite recognising it at boot.
Cleared data from hboot, after installing MW and it booted.
Ran 4ext updater and it cleared the boot issues
Now back on a relatively normal rooted and unlocked a8181
- ear speaker issues are a failed speaker - may try taking it apart and cleaning contacts, but just bought a cheap replacement and all now working apart from ear speaker.
Might even explore blackrose on this one now I know how to undo.
How to fix when blackrose hboot has been installed
Nexus blackrose (BlackRose_IS_130203.zip) (PC end) will run with the phone installed blackrose
Connect phone up to PC with OS started
Run Nexus Blackrose on PC with command (like fastboot commands)
'Blackrose skip'
You should get blackrose menu on PC
On PC Select option from menu to disable hboot protection and confirm
PC should get confirmation message protection removed until next reboot and the phone should reboot into fastboot
Flash bravo_alphaspl.img hboot.
Restart and check/reinstall if necessary your phones recovery (4ext or whatever)
(dont forget you cant flash ruu's with either blackrose or alpharev hboot protections)
