Not until we get recovery.
Isn't root the hard part. Is recovery just a matter of time, or is that some miracle too
Sent from my VS986 using Tapatalk
I know each device is different, but I'm assuming that even without unlocking the bootloader someone can make a type of recovery similar to safestrap that will allow custom roms to be installed.

Depending on the method. If one wants to unlock the bootloader, that can often be more difficult. I don't see why someone couldn't get something like Flashify working, though.
I sincerely hope so, I'm so impatient waiting for the chance to satisfy my flashing addiction, eating at me lol.
Lack of things to do is frustrating!! I hope the devs can get this thing unlocked soon.
Also, there's a thread in General for something just like this, its an app similar to Flashfire since it isn't working properly for non Sammy devices, I think it'd work should there be a ROM made compatible with it, though its stock based ROM's only.

I unlocked on "Day One", installed a custom recovery, and therefore never took the OTA. Today (thanks to beaups) I'm s-off also. I've read several people say you can't take the OTA with a custom recovery installed. Question: Is .10 noticeably better than .8 and if so, is there a way to update at this point? I think I'd have to wait till a stock recovery is available, flash it, then dl OTA and install and then reflash custom recovery. Is that correct?
If you really want to in the android development section there are flashable zips that are .10.
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Tapatalk 4
I've noticed nothing. Given that it is an update, and that RumRunner works with it, I can't imagine it would hurt to flash up to .10 and then S-OFF, or flash up if you've already S-OFFed.

If you are referring to this thread, I don't see anyone having success with it. If there is another I'm missing, please let me know. Also, I'm not sure if I want it, wondering if anyone noticed a difference with anything (good or bad).
I'm in the same boat. Running stock, rooted, debloated (by me) ROM and custom recovery. Thought about running the decrypted RUU and then the update just to get it, but decided to wait for 4.3

I'm assuming that there really isn't a difference between .8 and .10 except some "bug fixes". Correct me if I'm wrong. I'd make a nandroid and try the zips. If you wait until later I'll flash them myself.

I haven't noticed anything different. Phone doesn't run any faster, doesn't get hotter/stays cooler. Not really sure what it was they were trying to fix. I haven't noticed anything. I imagine it's the same difference between the .2 and .8 versions.

You're right on top of things thunder, good job.
I dont really see many people posting MOD's for ROM's instead there a million ROMs of the same thing and basically simple mods. I figure I can start by cranking out some mods if I got time.
MOD Buffet would be great instead of a ROM buffet. Makes it easier to learn what changed and how to change things in the future.
Agreed, I would like to do a lot myself. I'm glad you're jumping on it. It's definitely appreciated.
I'm having all sorts of goo.im issues (the sharing website, NOT a "personal" problem).

ODEX Untested version in the OP. Flash at your own risk, at worst youll have to restore your current rom so make a backup first.
I flashed this via TWRP on the rooted stock OTA MK3 ROM... and I think I bricked my phone. It won't move past the glowing Samsung screen. Have I totally screwed myself?
EDIT: I did make a full backup beforehand, so I'll try to do a restore. I'm not sure what went wrong.

Just restore in TWRP. It is very hard to brick an android device with a system only write. All this was replace your android policy jar and odex in the framework folder. You can probably just flash the Rom you had on your phone previous the flash of the mod and should be fine.

I just flashed it and my phone sat at the Samsung screen on reboot. I restored my backup in TWRP and all is well.
Restore didn't work.
It looks like someone has gotten an Odin version of the OTA, so I guess I'll have to go that route. I did a full backup, so hopefully I'll still be able to access some of the files I've added the last couple of days that I hadn't had a chance to backup to my computer yet.
Or, if it's truly bricked, looks like it's time for a new phone!
I just pulled the mod. Proof enough for me it doesn't work universally. I seriously doubt you hard bricked your phone. This is very hard to do using functions of recovery with out a script built to do so.

I hope you're right. I tried all afternoon to get it back up with no luck. I took it in to a Sprint store and they, too, were unsuccessful. I may try again later, but in the meantime I'm having to reactivate my old HTC EVO Shift.
I took the 4.3 (I know, I know, never take an OTA).
I want to root and flash CM11, but there is no root method for 4.3 yet.
Anyone know if there is any way to root right now (flashing 4.2 firmware or something like that) or do I have to wait? If so, how long do you think?
Thanks!

Nothing yet. All we can do is wait and see. Since there are no updates about progress that I've found from those who've posted the patches, there is no good way to estimate how long, or even if, at this point.
I haven't ever tried it, but if you're S-ON and are on 4.3 will the phone block you from flashing the old 605.15 encrypted RUU?

If you were then you can get root back I did it using fastboot commands because adb will not seem to work for me after the update for me if you need some help let me know

I'm in the exact same boat, friend. Never really saw a need to unlock or root prior to the OTA but now I'm having serious battery issues, mainly the phone radio using over 50% of my battery daily. I've been googling so hard I've almost broken my internets, but can't seem to find anyway to downgrade to use rum runner. I'm just dealing with it and hoping beaups and the other devs find a way to get us unlocked. Until then I'll wait patiently with my portable charger on hand lol.

What he is saying is that if you used rumrunner or sent it in to gain S-OFF, all you would have to do is download the superuser zip file and in TWRP flash the superuser file. When you reboot you might need to update the binaries but that would do it.

No, it won't work, it prevents your from downgrading, as HTC software has always done.
If I had a locked device, there are a couple things I would try to see if I could make it work.
Likely they wouldn't though, and I'd hate to get anyone's hopes up or send them down an unsuccessful path.
Bottomline being, there is currently no way to unlock, or to downgrade from a locked 4.3 device, to achieve an unlock.

Oh yeah I've been trying. I tried multiple downloads from multiple sources but they all hang up at the checking main version action and then fail. It's pretty much just playing the waiting game for rum runner and attempting patience. I'm not too hopeful for anything in the next few weeks since everyone has been busy with Christmas and such and New Years coming up. But if it can be done, the devs on here will do it.

Why would you need it, your device is bootloader unlocked, if you attempt to use this on an unlocked bootloader, this could possibly brick your phone, as it patches a bypass to the bootloader...no, this would not be wise...be careful..
Good luck.

I guess I wasnt very clear before. Several people have already used safestrap on this device (T-mobile note 3/hltetmo) without any apparent issues. All I did just now was type safestrap into the search box on the main page of the hltetmo page and this thread appeared.

I think what he was getting at is that you can flash AOSP ROMs, however since they contain a custom kernel it will trip KNOX. So if you are trying to avoid that, then no AOSP.

Any ideas ppl?
People with unlocked boot-loaders that want to be confined to a bootstrap........ hell hath frozen over.
I just paid a final Verizon bill of almost $1k (including ETF's) because of locked bootloaders and being confined to SafeStrap. I am forever grateful to Hashcode for the freedom we have been given but you guys do realize that safestrap partitions up your internal memory into 2GB blocks for system partition and 2-4GB blocks for data partitions for each slot. If you really use your phone you are going to be plagued with out of memory warnings. Plus you cannot flash kernels meaning no AOSP roms either and no more Aroma installs among other things.
When I had my Verizon Galaxy Note 3 and my AT&T Note 3 I always flashed everything to the stock slot and forgo the ROM slots alltogether. Then just backup and restore everything to the stock slot exactly like it was a real recovery. SO you might as well just do the same on a real recovery on the T-Mobile Note 3. Just backup and restore different ROM's (including AOSP!) at will. It may take a little longer to switch betweens ROMs this way but at least you don't have to jump through all those hoops or worse yet really mess up your device using a Safestrap not meant for your device.....all IMO of course.
So my n7 has been down for the past 2 months cause of poor Asus service on an RMA. Took me sending the unit in 3 times before they gave me a new device.
I feel so out of the loop and overwhelmed
Anyways, I was unlocked manually, rooted with wugs tool and twrp recovery flashed with wugs tool. Is this still all possible to do on kit Kat, the latest update?
What's the best ROM and or kernel being run out there in you guys opinions. This is the biggest thing that's overwhelming since development has taken off in the last 2 months IMO.
Thanks for any help and tips, I appreciate it guys/girls!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Yeah you can still do that..
If you unlocked manually you know how to use fastboot so just flash twrp or cwm with that. No need for a toolkit.
Rom/kernels up to you man. Depends what you want, see what they offer, there is no best. I like CM myself.
Alright thanks. Yeah, I'm familiar with fastboot. I'll just do that. How do I root though if I fastboot install twrp?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Right now I am running SinlessRom with ElementalX kernel and the ROM is liquid smooth, scored 28205 in anTuTu (overclocked). Have tried BS Harmony CM based but I just don't like the look of it and CM ROMs used to be my fav.

With all due respect, sure we could walk you through the process but really, do yourself a favor and do some reading to learn all that is required. Familiarize yourself with everything first, in the end you'll be thankful you did. After all...learning is part of the fun. Lots of folks use a toolkit like wugfresh's to unlock, root, install recoveries, etc.
Yeah, I know the steps, just not sure if I'm looking in the right spot. Guess I'll read more in that thread to find out if it's the right one......
