Group Chat MMS Battery Drain - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I been trying out other text messaging apps and every time I have a group chat going on, its like the phone can't process the chat fast enough and it overheats like crazy. Regular individual text are fine. I've tried the stock messaging app, go sms pro and now with Evolve and still doing the same. This is a stock phone, not rooted.
Anyone do a lot of group chats and experiencing this problem? I been trying to find a fix but there is like no hope at all. Just curious if there something new I can do now to fix this overheat problem.
Any information is appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Have you already tried a different SMS Application, like Handcent SMS?
I had the same issue, I just downloaded handcent, and it is incredibely smooth. No lag at all.
Here you have some information about handcent:

in case another message software isn't helping you could try updating your radio

[Q] Are there any other apps like GoSMS that do group messaging?

So I'm currently using GoSMS for group messaging and it actually works pretty well for grouping up messages if I was messaged as part of a group. It uses MMS to in order to make this function possible
The problem is that performance suffers tremendously when I get several at a time. I remember driving one day when friends were texting back and forth about something and I had to stop the car because my phone was completely stuck on just managing the text messages. GPS or any other apps would not run properly during the texts
Hoping there is an alternative even if it is paid

[Q] Google Hangouts Group Message/Text Issues

Hey guys Im finally getting acclimated coming from an iPhone 5s. I have rooted and im running viper rom and have everything the way i want it aside from the messaging.
I seem to have trouble with Google hangouts my friends all still have iPhones and when they try to group text me Google hang out sees the group text incoming but their names do not populate also when i attempt to send a message it always fails. I have the group message function (mms) activated but it doesnt seem to help. If i use the regular text message app I can see them normally and also reply......... Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!
Edit: Im also noticing that it does not have an option to send video........ I thought this was suppose to be the imessage equivalent............ honestly i understand i can email videos but thats a pain. im really kinda going through imessage withdraws lol only thing i like about the iphone

MMS Issues on my ATT HTC One M8

Hi All,
New to XDA Developers and seeking some assistance. I'm having a lot of problems with MMS, especially when it come to group texting via iMessage. Most of my family and friends are on iOS and when group texts start to fly back and forth quickly problems start to happen:
1. Some texts fail to arrive so I'm "lost" when trying to make sense of the group text
2. Some texts are stuck in "Downloading" mode, only to never get completed
3. Sometimes when attempting to reply I end up replying just to the individual and not the group
Basically group texting is shot useless for me at the moment.
I have tried different apps apart from the native messaging app. Messenger (Google), GoSMS, Google Hangouts - all seem to exhibit the same issues. If anything it's more of an annoyance and at the end of the day I suspect folks are thinking I'm ignoring their messages. SMS seems to work fine, it's just MMS via group texting.
Please let me know if you have any solutions , looking forward to hearing from some of you!

Same Issue
I am having the same issue. You couldn't have explained it better. Did you ever find a solution? I just found this thread.
Same thing - Tap to Download
Hi guys - I have the same problem.
I have tons of group chat MMS's that come in and say "downloading" but never download. After about ten minutes they switch to say "Couldn't download. Tap to download."
The weirdest part is, every day i have dozens of these, there are certain times of the day where they will actually download. It's like the signal strength comes in real good for a certain time of day and I'm able to get them downloaded.
I can provide screenshots if needed.
There has to be a solution to this, or at least a known problem. I've read about this all over the place for years but no one has a concrete solution or reasoning as to why the MMS don't download properly regularly. XDA must know!

Major SMS Issues - Advanced Messaging?

Hi I am hoping someone might have some ideas of how to address my problem.
I am on a stock S9 on AT&T. I have had it for about 9 months...but about a month ago I started having a very problematic issue where I occasionally just dont receive a text message from someone. Its not always from the same person, and its sometimes in group texts but sometimes not. Its sporadic but often enough that its very problematic because I sometimes miss important messages without realizing.
I have been using Textra. At first I thought perhaps the problem is with Textra. But I logged in to MyAT&T portal and you can see there a log of all texts you have sent and received - the missing texts are never even showing as having been sent to me from the user.
I havent had much success figuring out what the issue is although after researching, I have noticed that some people think the culprit may be AT&T's "Advanced Messaging" function and they advise disabling it.
So I am now doing that to see if it works. The problem there though is it can only be disabled from within the stock Samsung Messages app, which I dont want to use. And if I go into that app to disable, and then switch to another Messaging app after, then every time I reboot, Advanced Messaging is on again.
If anyone has further advice on 1) understanding what the issue may be and 2) how I can permanently disable Advanced Messaging - I am desperate to receive it! Thank you.

Click to collapse
You might have to adb push and remove advanced messaging from your system partition
