Hello!
I'd like to start out mentioning that I don't have any GPS issues, thank our beloved God. I already paid my sins with LG G2 in regards to GPS.
But two friends of mine are having some weird issues with their G3's, which only differs from mine in the ROM version... and the fact that they both didn't remove the internal transparent adhesives (or even the lower blue one) since they bought it
The problem is that their GPS cannot find enough sattelites for a lock on, and when it find a couple, it gets a 30~40m lock precision, and loses it quickly after. Mine, side by side, gets a lock on in less than 3 seconds, with 6 to 7 meter precision.
But if they reboot and quickly open up a GPS app, they get a lock quickly and with precision, and then hold it for a minute or so, until it loses lock.
I've tried to find the GPS antenna and press it (just like the G2), but I don't know where is it located, and can't find on the internets, as it doesn't seem to be a recurrent problem.
As I didn't play much with the original ROM, and quickly swapped to a custom ROM, I can't rule out software problems. Their ROMs are well updated for our country, D855P10C (which is also mine, but differs on baseband).
Is there any known issue about this? Can I do something that not requires wiping out their systems to install a custom ROM?
for no logical reason whatsoever, i kinda believe your friend's phone suffers from hardware problem
if their phones are rooted, maybe they need to try fasterGPS app first (can be found in play store)
Hi,
I also suffer from poor GPS performance (when compared with other devices). Does anybody know where exactly the G3 GPS antenna is? Cannot find it quickly on the interwebz or disassembly videos...

So do I, but... they both suffer from exactly the same issue.
There's also the problem to troubleshoot it, as G2 had terrible GPS issues, anything you google for G3 GPS problems, it only gives you G2 GPS solutions.
Their phones aren't rooted, I thought about doing it, but then, if it's a hardware issue, I wouldn't want to trip any fuse or alarm.
@Molius if you reboot then immediately open a GPS app (Google Maps, Waze, GPS Status & Toolbox etc..), does the GPS works?
Hi,
Restart didn't help. If I put side by side my nexus 7 (2012), my G3 and Gf's xperia Z1, they all see the same satellites, however the signal strength on G3 is about half of what Z1 shows.
I'm having the same issues. Weak signal, slow to lock. I got rid of my note 3 for this same reason! At least g3 will lock eventually.

even i have same problem ..my g3 shows 20-30 satellites but connects only to 1 sattelite ......
I fixed my GPS. It was a hardware issue. I unscrewed all of the top portion of the back screws, popped off back, and then gently pulled up the little brass pins on the back. There are 6 little pins that I gently pried up. They are in sets of 2. If you look on the back cover that you unscrew, you'll see little square contacts that show you where the small contact points are. I don't know which is GPS, but after pulling them all up, and putting it back together, I'm seeing all satellites in GPS test and getting 16 feet accuracy indoors with a second floor above me. Previous, I would get no indoor signal, and rarely a lock outdoors.

Thanks a lot this manipulation solved my problem.
The G3 problem it isn't the same with G2 and its not hardware but software problem.
For some people the gps have signal drops sometime and this happen only for lolipop. With kitkat works perfect. The only solution for working good the gps on lolipop is only with data open and high accuracy or airplane mode and gps sensors. Then you don't have anny issue and works perfect.
If this is hardware it doesn't work with this ways and the same problem it will be on kitkat. And all this is for many devices and not only G3.

Sorry for my English
poor GPS
Hi guys,
I've just bought my first LG (I had mostly HTC and a couple Samsung) and I'm just shocked by the GPS on my G3.
I just had a 150 miles drive from Wolverhampton to London and I had to get my HTC E8 out from my bag as I could not use Google Maps on this crap.
I've bought it second hand and it's been rooted and converted to CM 12.1 at the very moment I've got my hands on it but I'm thinking of selling it because navigation is key for me.
I downloaded GPS Test while I was reading this thread and for the last 10 minutes it could not get a fix although it sees 12 sats.
I will open it up as suggested tomorrow and will see how it goes...

Hello,
As I don't have a large knowledge in Electronices, can you please, sent a picture of your mobile and showing where the Antenna is located ?
Have a goof time

Hello,
I am not sure of what you wrote.
I have downgraded my D855 from MarshMallow to Kitkat for this purpose (having the GPS working) but I confirm that the device only sees satellite without fixing anyone.
I had the same problem in my G3. And I agree with this theory of a software problem. I've found a way to test my gps and use! I use the code 3845#*855# and access the option GnssTest 1.2, press the 3 dots button on top right corner and chose "START GPS" immediately it works. After this I could use gps apps normmaly, at least for some time. If the sinal was lost, I repeat option STOP GPS and START GPS and work again.
@Miinz
According to the LG G3 D855 service manual (page 139; paragraph 3.9.2) GPS antenna should be the highlighted sticker. The arrow is pointing where the GPS antenna sticker is going inside the rear housing.
I had removed and reattached the rear housing (I removed it as shown in first three and half minutes of this video) and it has improved GPS reception of my phone.
Is anybody else having GPS issues after updating to lollipop? I am using the app GPS Status and it does not connect to satellites according to it? It shows 21 satellites but connects to none. Is there anything I can do?
I'm having similar issues. Maps seems to still grab a signal however. Over the past two days it seems to have gotten better, but the sensitivity seems to have taken a nose dive.
I have used gps this morning and it worked. I didn't check how many satellites its connected to but it seemed to work ok.
Same problem here, GPS had been acting up recently, but I tried it on the way to work this morning and couldn't get anything. Tried turning GPS on and off and rebooting the phone, still nothing. I have no idea what else to try. It's set to high accuracy mode, not many other settings to change.
I discovered a workaround, although it's an annoying one, but if I switch my phone to CDMA only so that it's forced to use 3G, GPS works just fine. Switching back to LTE though it will not lock onto any satellites.
Tried it out this morning and had no issues when on LTE
What I felt is that there is some slight gps lag, like if I make a turn, gps will show I made the turn a couple of seconds later.
But no issues with gps lock while on LTE.

Yeah, I saw this under KitKat and now under Lollipop. Not sure if it's a Note 4 GPS issue or a mapping app issue, though - I was going to try some tests using a Garmin unit and GPS Test Plus on the Note 4, both displaying actual Lat/Long coordinates to compare the two (though not sure how well that will work given general GPS inaccuracies). At any rate, there is clearly some lag in the map position display. I don't have any acquisition or lock issues.

Ended up doing a different test. The consistent lag I have been seeing is with Google Maps. Today I did a 46-mile drive on freeways, highways, & surface streets and used Sygic mapping app. Sygic was dead-on the entire trip, showing the vehicle in intersections, etc. at the time the car was there - Google Maps would have been significantly behind. So my GPS seems to be working just fine but there is an issue with Google Maps. And GPS stayed locked-on the entire trip.

Yes I'm having problems too. I always use Google Maps Navigation and since the update it will randomly say "GPS signal lost" while driving. I am on the latest BOB7 stock rooted, fully updated profile and PRL.
Hi,
I have a problem with GPS fix. The GPS test does not show that the device can not see any satellite. Which of the antennas is responsible for GPS. I suspect that something broke during the fall of the phone to the ground. Do you have any idea how to fix it?
Bought OP 7T yesterday.
Today I noticed that the GPS only works when the sky is visible above in outdoors. When I'm indoor and the sky is not directly visible above the GPS does not work at all.
*GPS works with Mobile data or Wifi at my home (I live in 2nd floor, in a 7 floor building)
**tried GPS in my office building with Mobile data (9th floor in a 13 floor building). Does not work.
**tried GPS in another building (ground floor in a 2 floor building), did not work
To solve the matter:
-Tried using GPS Status & Toolbox app to reset and re-download GPS sensor data but nothing helps.
-Did a network reset but no result.
Finally did a full factory reset/wipe. Lets see if the issue is solved or not.
Anyone has any suggestion or similar experience?
Return divice!? I have no issues at all with GPS. Both WiFi and Bluetooth of and high accuracy of

I have had similar issues, and if you search ran the farms, many other users have as well. for me it was frustrating thing is it if sometimes that's a complete 180 and it's very disoriented in terms of direction of navigation. I'm not sure how widespread this issue is, but as far as I know there is not a workable fix at this point
Umm hello gps does not work inside buildings that have enough metal in them to block the GPS radio signals. This is nothing new. Generally inside location is determined by Bluetooth and wifi as well as cellular position which is not as accurate.
This is indoors 1st floor of a 100yo 2 storey house. Wood construction. I will post a capture tomorrow from inside the steel and concrete shop where I work.
Well.. I'm not sure if I should be embarrassed or not for reading OP post the way I did but...
Of course if you are well inside in a building with reinforced concrete in roof and walls it is possible you are going to experience some issues with GPS signals.
You are practically in a Faraday's cage!
In my experience though, you should be fine if you at least have some windows.
At my work we have extremely reinforced walls and roof, but I still have GPS signal. Some drift occurre but nothing extreme

I had the same exact experience with gps issues in my car. I would notice that the compass would all of a sudden start to go in a different direction from where I was heading. I also tried to use gps status to download the data and then use the maps program to calibrate the gps. It would never calibrate above low. I finally spoke with OP about the issue and they recommended resetting the phone from bootloader. I gave that a try and for now I get better high strength gps according to google maps.

Exactly how did you do that? Did you lose root?
No i don't have root. The steps are outlined in my other post.
I don't have any issues with GPS outdoor and I'm not expecting to have working GPS indoor. Reason? Because this is GPS how it is working.... (what else we are going to read). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indoor_positioning_system#Relation_to_GPS
Hi all,
I have note 2014, wifi. Recently, I tried to open map & gpsstatus, and I just realize that my gps "stops" working. I can see the satellites, however it cannot fix them. on gpsstatus, the satellites always grey, and it restarts to lock every minutes or so.
I am not sure if this is hardware or software issue. anyone know how to solve this problem?
