[Q] Debloat Scrip? - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can anyone create a proper debloat script? I've seen others posted for Verizon and Tmobile variant, but none for ours.

Pretty easy to go through and delete apps yourself with es file explorer. That's what I did.

If you are running a custom (or tweaked) rom such as @tx_dbs_tx 's series of flashable zips you can delete the stuff you dont want from the zip itself. This is what I do. I take out all the things I don't want.
The problem with debloat scripts is you are at the mercy of the creator's personal preferences... Unless you are up to editing them. If you were up to that I don't think you'd be asking this question.
So either go this route or use TiBu to first freeze and when you are sure those apps aren't critical delete them. Do your own homework and then implement your preferences... You'll feel a sense of accomplishment. Good luck.

Edit. ..didnt see the post above..already covered.
Use the titanium app...you can freeze them 1st to make sure you dont fudge anything up...then delete away

[Q] Basic Root; I still want Sprint Default Rom? Thanks

I would like some help. I had the Hero before and there was a lot less options to root; with the EVO is overwhelming. All I am looking for is a rooted version of Sprint's official rom so I can uninstall dumb preloaded sprint applications and enable free wireless tethering.
I found this
http://www.knowyourcell.com/htc/htc-evo-4g/evo-4g-guides/463925/how_to_root_the_htc_evo_4g.html would I just follow the first section steps 1-5? Or does anyone have any other advice for what I am trying to do.
Thanks
I'm not sure this is the right forum for this, but it is really simple. Follow toast's instructions for root (part 1) to root the device. Then follow toast's nand unlock instructions (part 2) to fully root the device. Next, flash the ROM of your choice (for a stock rooted ROM, look at the offerings from flizmode or joeykrim).
I rooted then after trying a bunch of others settled on flipzmode's stock ROM and removed the nuisance apps. Then I used it to make my own with all the bits removed.
Honestly it's easier to use the kitchen to make a ROM then remove the apps one by one through adb.

You can use a file manager like root explorer which speeds things up considerably. If you want to use adb that is fine as well. You can just make a .txt file with the rm commands for whatever you want to remove and just paste that into your console. It will mass remove them and it goes a lot quicker.
Hint: If theres a question mark in your subject, the thread belongs in Q&A

Thanks again for the replies.
Please some more advice
OK. Thanks for the help so far. I am so confused as there are way to many root methods and options for the EVO. And too much backup, Recovery, Rooting, lol my mind is going crazy on what I am supposed to do.
ALL I WANT TO DO at the end of the day is remove sprint crap ware and enable wireless tether. I am not interested in custom roms, etc. Can someone please just direct me with specific links.
I did this on my hero really easy, I just followed these http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572. But with the EVO there is way to mant options. Can someone just please direct me.
Joeykrim ROM is exactly what you're looking for. See the above link that leads you to all the EVO ROMs.

Newbie Questions about EVO Rooting

I'm coming from a rooted port of Android for the Sprint Touch (Vogue) (Thanks DZO, Myn, and company!!!) and WOW EVO is amazing.
Anyways I have a few questions I need help with getting started I've been reading a lot but I'm still overwhelmed with the wealth of info:
#1. I updated the OTA - does this mean I can't root yet until the new OTA is rooted?
#2. I would like to go to a new rom without all the junk. I don't use sense, or any of that other fancy stuff running in the background. Is there a rom you would recommend?
#3. In the past, I had a rooted device where I could modify the androidinstall.tar and remove .apk's I didn't want. Is this possible with the current situation on EVO?
#4. With all these roms, do you generally clean wipe everything each time? or do settings / apps / configs remain?
Thanks!!!
I can try to answer your questions.
1. Unless something has come out recently off you are stock and did the update no way to root yet.
2. I just use stock ROM and remove what I don't use.
3. I personally use "root explorer" once you are root you can either unlock nand and use out to remove bloatware or you can adb and remove with your computer.
4. I'm not to sure about those commands, I haven't ever used those.
Look at the sticky in any forum and go to the ROM and Guide link and everything you need to know its there. Keep a close lookout I'm sure somebody will figure out how to root the update soon.

Yeah I love root explorer, that's how I used to change things on my old phone. I have it installed but I guess I just have to wait for them to root the update. Maybe I shouldn't have updated
Oh well, knowing XDA they will probably root it by the time I'm finished typing this post. I'll keep reading those stickies... thanks for the answer though!

Crap one question I forgot - without being rooted - is there anyway I can do the wireless tethering besides the standard Sprint program?
There is a program on the market called easytether. One is the lite version, which is free. The full version is 10 bucks

[Q] Removing Verizon Crapware on Rooted 2.2

Is there a guide on how to do it? Can you use a mac? Or is it done directly on the phone?
You can do either way...I just use Root Explorer app and delete things I don't need...I have done it many times and know which ones I can't delete So, if this is your first time, you may want to just rename them so they don't run...let me find the link...it was here somewhere
Here ya go.
By the way, the [Q] means question, this belonged in the Q&A thread.

I like to use Titanium Backup. That way I uninstall and if I ever need those items back on I can reinstall.
I agree titanium backup is good way to go. it allows you to remove city id and stuff like that + it backs up your apps with market links.

[rom] basic stock rom

Here's a basic stock rom in case you need it sometime
the only modifications made are the su and flash_image binaries are included and ro.secure has been turned to 0 so you can adb remount.
How to flash download the rom from here
Place rom on sdcard
wipe data and all else
then flash rom
reboot and do what you need to do
Cool, you never know when you might need this.
Thank you! Appreciated.

How is this comparable to the rom listed here?

I want to have a known working recovery before I make any more changes to my phone. I am not exactly a newbie to this stuff (I have a Pandigital Novel that has been rooted and hacked into a nice tablet) but this is taking things to a whole new level for me and I need my phone. So I'm a bit nervous.
Of course I really wish I'd asked around some before I got to work on removing some of the stuff on it already (mostly known junkware from Virgin Mobile and stupid stuff like weblinks pretending to be native apps) after rooting it with superoneclick and installing root explorer. I need to know if your rom or the one I linked to will be able to allow me to roll back to a default installation that I can revert to if there are any issues down the road. Can you help me?
I apologize if this isn't the right place for this question. Thank you for the many mods I have seen you do already. I look forward to trying them once I have a fallback plan.

Forgive my ignorance, but isn't rooting actually a requirement of obtaining the backup? Or did I misread the instructions somewhere? It'd be nice if someone at Virgin Mobile were to leak the complete rom somewhere so people had a fall back option besides trying to return the phone as bricked. (If that's even possible?)

Sounds like a good reason to pick a forum. Not sure if I'm a member of any places that do that since I run with adblock and noscript enabled most of the time.
Any chance you could link me to written instructions on how to flash the rom you have here? I know you have video tutorials but those are harder to follow for me because I am hard of hearing. Music I can do because it is "beautiful noise" and I can usually find some lyrics to get the words of. Your video HOWTOs are not good for me because I have to strain to hear what is being said.
Thanks again for your time and patience in replying to me.

Thanks. Dude above me, there is a rom flashing tutorial at prepaidandroids.net. We will help you out there. Its a site that specializes in on the Optimus v itself.

Thanks for posting this. It just came in handy when I was changing my virgin phone number. Part of the process is dialing ##841446# to bring up the activation menu, but the ## prefix on CM7 does not work, apparently only a stock ROM can do that.
Any way to put it on a phone friendly site? No matter what browser I use on my phone it will not download from google docs.

THANKS, this worked perfectly.
It's pretty much as described, a stock Opt V rom, with Super User already set up and installed.
Titanium worked on it no problem as well.
thanks a ton man! i needed to flash back to stock to get my 3G working again. if you flash a custom rom while youre between payments, you know, during down time, you may need to flash back to stock and run the activation app next time you put service on your phone.
worked like a charm. i thought my 3G was broken. im doing a happy dance now!

[Q] Disable Tether Manager

Hello, I just signed up to the forum today. However, I've thoroughly searched this forum and Google'd trying to find useful information. I've gotten the jest of what needs to be done but no clear step by step details.
First, if I've rooted my GalaxySiii, am using stock ROM, with WiFi-tether app and it's working to tether to laptap. Do I "still" need to remove the TMO tether manager if I plan on using a VPN (Virtual Private Network)? In plain English, can TMO tell I'm tethering my data connection if I'm using a VPN?
Second, I've downloaded Titanium Backup * root (free version), (I KNOW I NEED THE PAID TO FREEZE) but was trying to ensure I could locate (see) the Tether Manager before I pay $7 for an app I don't need. I've never been able to locate TMO tether manager or anything with the word tether for the matter within Titanium or Root Explorer. The only TMO apps I see in Titanium (only 3 tabs within Titanium (Overview / Backup/Restore / Schedules), I'm using the Backup/Restore tab is (CallerTunes 3.0, MobileLife Contacts 3.8.01, T-Mobile My Account 2.1.1348, T-Mobile Name ID 1.9.6, T-Mobile TV 5.0.0.73-178477, and Visual Voicemail 2.0.28).
While in Root Explore app, I have no idea what I'm looking at. I would love to delete bloatware and such but am afraid of deleting the wrong thing. Okay, so I given you the details now here is the second question. I need someone to explain to me and I'm sure many others in plain English, with all the steps, how to disable or delete/uninstall the TMO tether manager either in Titanium or Root Explorer because there is no such app (Titanium) or APK in (Root Explorer) that just saying Tether Manager? Is it be hidden or under a different name?
I'm sorry for the extensive info, but I did watch the NOOB video when I registered and it said to be as thorough as possible without being too winded. Thank you in advance for your time and assistance with my problem! )

It's been a while since I've had the stock ROM and I'm working off of memory here so bear with me.
I'm assuming when you say you're using a WiFi-tether app you mean a third party one and not the one that came with the phone. If that's the case if the Tether app you downloaded specifically meant for root? I don't know about any of the other Tether apps out there, but WiFi Tether for Root works for some on the stock ROM. As for disabling Tether Manager try going to the default Task Manager by hitting the left softkey>Manage Apps>All and see if there's any Tether Manager or Samsung Tether apps and disable from there.
As long as you're tethering through the app I recommended though, Samsung shouldn't be able to tell if you're tethering your data plan. Sorry I don't have more information regarding running a rooted stock ROM, but from what I understand WiFi Tether for Root works on any AOSP based ROM and I can tell you that it works on CM10 for sure.
Also, can we please choose a less painful color for my eyes... like say black. Or charcoal. Or grey. Or even carbon fiber.
I feel like you're asking 12 different questions. Most of which have been covered on the forums. It's good to be thorough but please please please get your first questioned answered before asking 3 more.
Which is most important?
Sorry, this was a duplicate post that I've deleted!

@ OP - I know what you're asking about, because that's how it worked on the GSII
However, the app we used to freeze to get away with it (tethering manager) is not present in any recognizable form as far as I can tell on the GSIII
Plus they now use alternate methods to detect tethering, such as the browser you are using, etc
All in all, just pay the $15 bucks a month or use one of the methods outlined in several threads in this forum. Although I believe they only work if used a specific way, with specific browsers, etc
Hope that answers your question
Ok, much easier to read your post now. The method that I'm currently using requires a custom ROM. It's been shown to work for others as well. First you need to upgrade your ROM to Cyanogenmod10. There's an entire thread on that in the Original Android Development section.
The app I use is: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...S5nb29nbGVjb2RlLmFuZHJvaWQud2lmaS50ZXRoZXIiXQ
I'm not sure if that's the same one you currently have or not, but I know for a fact that the above app works.
Once you install the custom ROM you no longer need to worry about disabling the Tether Manager as it won't even be installed.
If you want to stick with a stock ROM there are workarounds, but like the user above me posted you'll have to dig around the forums. I had the stock ROM for about 2 hours before abandoning it.
Okay, I will upgrade my ROM. The link to the app you've given me is the app I'm currently using. I know that they will still be able to see that I'm tethering even if I upgrade my ROM; however they wont be able to stop it. So I'm wondering if anyone knows if using a VPN is a workaround for their snooping?
