On my note 3 this works fine for me, on the G4 Anyconnect ICS+does not allow me to click OK (only cancel), so while I should be able to use the app (password is accepted ...), I'm unable to access the office, which makes the phone far less useful. Anyone know of anything special required on the G4 to allow VPN connections; it is as if the Android (which is responsible for the prompt as I understand it), is blocking the OK button. This all worked fine on my previous phone, so I'm assuming it is a G4 issue, maybe some setting I'm unaware of?
Thanks,
ERIC
sorry about the stupid $, did not catch that, and I can not fix the title.
Doesn't seem to wanna support 5.1 but runs OK on 5.0. I am using ipvanish without any issues on any of my phones

hi everyone, i just lost my rooted evo, but i dont have any software like mobile defense or anything similar....
i thought i could track it through latitude but i never enabled it in my gmaps...
any one have any help with this ??
I've never used it but check out plan b by lookout labs. It's supposedly designed just for this purpose. BTW, if it works please reply as I want to know if it does work as it says.
Install through the web android market.

I think most, if not all, of those types of apps must be setup before you lose the phone.
That's what I thought but this one specifically says it can be installed once a phone is lost through the market and it will run as soon as the app is pushed through to your phone by google. Of course it could all be pr speak which is why I want to know if it works for the op.

Actually, now that you mention it, that could work. I wasn't thinking that you could use the Android Web Market to silently push the app to the phone. Since it silently installs such apps without prompting for confirmation of either the install or its permissions, it probably would work. They would see it install in the notification bar, but might not notice before you got the location info you need.
Of course, this is a great example of why I think that's a security flaw in the Android web market. If someone compromises your Google account, they can push an app down to your phone via the web market and you might not know. Basically such an app could do anything short of something requiring root access with no prompt showing up. I've always thought that despite it being convenient the way it is (review the permissions on the web and have it automatically install), it'd be much more secure to confirm install on the phone first. That said, in this one scenario, it could actually be helpful.
thanks for the help!
i installed/pushed the app through the market but still waiting to get an email.... ill try texting with my friends mobile to see if its still on.
o wow...hopefully it is still on and that app works!! good luck to ya!!
So I have to know. Did it work?

So I have a quotation and I how someone here can answer it. I read along somewhere (I don't remember where exactly) that the tethering apps no longer work. I just recently rooted a phone and I have yet to hear if it is working anymore.. I got the newest wifi tether app off the 3D forums but I'm just wondering if it still works? Mine is working just fine but idk if anyone else who has recently rooted their device if experiencing any issues with ANY app for tethering.. Any info is appreciated

Been rooted since 'nam, and tethering works as it always has.
it still works if you have it on your phone or can get it. They took it off the market or should I say Sprint blocked it on the market. I have it and mine works fine.
if you have a rooted phone and you have a copy of a tethering app then why not just see if it works instead of posting a new thread? There's nothing more satisfying than doing the research yourself.....

I have the app, I have tested it, I have root and I can confirm its working on my end. The app I meant, I guess I should have been a little clearer. My apologies oh great troller, the app that is on the 3D forums, is it working for anyone else? I can't get it to work for a few EVOs that I've tried running it on.

Try using the barnacle app. For tether. Its very easy and it has never *sucked up.tether has given me problems in the past, but if you want it you should be able to find it on 4shared. Hope that helps

I've heard about Sprint blocking stuffs on the market. Also heard that much of the blocking is done thru the Sprint Market application. Is that true? Sorry for this question being slightly off-topic. I DID noticed that much of the applications for tethering (both wifi and usb) has been suddenly flagged as being not compatible or just don't even show up anymore in the market app. Which is interesting as I have a tethering app for my e4g that works nicely on my e4g, but is now flagged as incompatible on the market app for the e4g! I haven't downloaded the latest version to confirm whether it's still compatible or not because I'm pretty much happy with what I have now (even tho the nag reminder can get slightly annoying). Plus I don't wanna go thru the trouble of trying out of fear of bleeping up the working setup i now have. Especially when I'm about to add Clear 4g to my phone and will need the e4g's 8-device connectivity capabilities. In effect, my e4g will be my answer to Clear's iSpot that also can connect up to 8 simultaneous devices too.
Btw, for your information, the tethering app I'm using is an older version of Easytether Lite for usb and WiFi Tether for Root for the wifi side.
So I know AT&T, being the disgusting American capitalist corporation that they are, decided to completely disable wireless tethering and make you pay for it with a monthly fee on your bill. This is completely unacceptable if you ask me.
This is a thread to see what Wi-Fi tethering apps you guys are using, with and without root. Hopefully we can get a list going so people can try out some different ones if certain ones don't work for them.
I'm using a completely stock phone, unrooted. Just downloaded FoxFi from their website, and installed the apk on my phone. It's usually available on Google Play but AT&T decided to block it. However, I can confirm that if you download the APK and install it that Wi-Fi tethering works perfectly. I connected my work laptop to my phone just now and used dropbox for a bit, and I also tried a few different websites.
Elixir 2
Foxfi here. It works great on my unrooted phone.

When I used to tether with an Iphone att noticed it right away and sent me automated messages... Can they also detect tethering with Android??
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
if you download an app, the only thing AT&T would be able to see is your data usage. if your data usage all of sudden goes up, that's usually related to tethering.
i use FoxFi on my unrooted Galaxy S3.

definitely not true.
they can tell by the number of 'hops' that data traffic goes through to the end client. that is how they found me. i was using CM9 (built-in enabled hotspot) for 3 months on my old phone and they finally sent me the "Did you know tethering requires a plan?" text, and sent me a letter telling me I had to stop before X date or they'd change my data plan. when I called in playing dumb they listed off a number of apps that i might have used 'accidentally', which was the list of all the tethering apps i've heard of, and asked if i used them.
IMHO, the only safe way to tether via wifi on an unrooted phone would be to set up ADB via wifi, then use Easytether over that wifi ADB connection. Anything that resembles straightforward "phone as transparent access point" is too easy for carriers to detect. You have to masquerade your traffic, and the more opaque you can make it (say, by further tunneling it over a PPTP or L2TP VPN), the better.
A rooted phone has a few additional possibilities, but they involve completely replacing the tethering app that's bundled with the phone with one that goes out of its way to masquerade your traffic and disguise its wifi-routed origins.
You can also change over to a mobileshare plan. It's saving me a few bucks per month, and tethering is allowed with no additional fee.
"Tethering and/or mobile hotspot use is permitted with Mobile Share plans with capable Designated Devices; provided, however, that such use is limited to a maximum of five (5) simultaneous users per Device." "If you use a tethering and/or mobile hotspot Device with more than five (5) simultaneous users, you agree that AT&T may suspend or terminate service to the account."
So it looks like they're watching for multiple receivers in the traffic and if they see more than 6 (the device itself and 5 attached clients), then it flags.

Good call on Elixir 2. Works really fast on an non-rooted Galaxy S III
Foxfi worked perfectly for me up until this latest OTA update and now it won't work at all. Was using Power Toggles to activate it, but this is no longer working. I've been searching for a working replacement for the last few days without any luck so if anyone has found an app that works after the update I would greatly appreciate you sharing the name. Thanks!!
I use wifi tether on a rooted S3. It works pretty well. It has similar options to that of a router.

He was using the built in tethering feature of CM9, which is also part of stock Android.
I use wifi tether. It was the only thing that let me connect to my vpn and tether at the same time.
Haven't used it very much tbh. Maybe 2 hours total in the past couple of weeks. But so far so good
I don't think att would have an idea I was tethering since all the data is going through my vpn and is encrypted.
If they somehow managed to find out, I'm prepared to take them to court and will ask for proof in discovery which would make everything public as far as how they caught me.

Was working...
Hello all,
I have been using this tethering method for a few weeks now, but all of sudden, my phone gets stuck on "Please wait while verifying..." message. It never errors, and I can cancel the process. I have tried to restore the offical tethering files, in hope to get the "Please call blah blah for more information message, but the same result happens too. My phone did recently download a system update, but I haven't allowed it to install. If anyone can shed some light on this I would greatly appreciate it.
Good evening all.
Has anyone with a G4 on VZW noticed issues with apps on wifi since the latest firmware update? I've called Verizon and been on the phone with them for HOURS to no avail.
The only time wifi works normally is in safe mode. When I'm on wifi, most apps just aren't functional at all. We thought it was some app in particular so we reset the phone and the issue persists. The only thing tech support suggests is giving me another refurbished G4 which will get us nowhere as the new G4 will just be running the same firmware.
This is problematic for me as I work in and out of different buildings on any given day. These buildings don't always provide the best reception. I clamored with Verizon for a different, comparable phone. I spoke with LG and their solution is me sending the phone in with the turnaround time being 5-7 business day which is also problematic as I don't have another phone to use. Verizon refuses to acknowledge it's an "issue" because it's not "wide spread". A quick search revealed that this problem is not limited to just me.
I've exhausted my options. I do not want to spend hours on the phone with Verizon again. I do not want to speak with LG for the same phone again. I simply want a working phone. This is the 3rd G4 that I've had that does not work. The 3rd G4 in almost as many months. What are my options here?
tl;dr This is my 3rd LG G4 that doesn't work and the latest firmware update broke the wifi functionality. Verizon refuses to acknowledge the issue and will only give me the same phone, not a comparable phone. What are my options?"
Yup. Since the update. Wifi on my phone is lagging horrendously.

Yes, since the update I don't get any notifications while connected to WiFi. My WiFi is slow anyway, so I haven't noticed any lag that others are reporting.

I spoke with them again today. Their only option is to send the same phone again which isn't going to fix anything unfortunately.
Same problem here (and also with friends who have both VZW and the G4). This exact issue popped up on the LG G3, also after an update. Infuriating that they broke another otherwise good phone. The workaround is to install an app called DNSet. It sets the DNS to Google's, which fixes it.

I am having the same issues. doesn't matter which Wi-Fi network I'm on, it is terrible. Otherwise I love the phone, but this is getting really frustrating
Yeah I'm having the same issue. It's maddening!! Nothing comes through unless I manually sync or have to open the app to get it to sync. How is this an acceptable software update for verizon - who usually requires a high level of quality control on software updates??
The Update broke Notifications over WiFi. It has something to do with IPv6. Verizon PULLED the update because this is a major problem.
Either call Verizon and have them replace the phone (you will get the older firmware 11A back on it)
OR
The fix is to download DDNS or something (It is a VPN service) that routes ALL internet traffic over IPv4 connections. I forget the specific name, but it is being heavily discussed in the "VERIZON UPDATE" forum in the General section.

Read the thread, I think toward the end more.

Give this solution a shot, and what router (make/model) do you have exactly?
You can fix this issue without root by using the app DNSet from the Google Play store. You hit 1 button (the one and only button), and it turns off IPv6, and problem solved.

So as far as the update goes I really do like it. However I am having a couple issues. Wifi calling will no longer connect for starters. Also when I open messaging and then open a conversation there's like a 2 sec pause before the conversation actually opens. Anyone else having these issues? I'm wondering if I should just do a hard reset and start from scratch. Thanks for any help.

No wifi calling for me after enabled for a few minutes from a fresh reboot. Get a can't connect wifi calling to the network message, but if I reboot It works right after for a few again.
I have neither issue, and I use WiFi calling on many different networks, you should call Sprint and have then reset your WiFi calling. On the messaging, try a different app, such as Textra. I notice a lil more battery drain, but that will prolly change after 7 soaks in for a few days.

Are you guys with WiFi calling issues using any ad blocking software. As that seems to be likely what is causing my issues with WiFi calling. Adguard disabled it will work all day just fine.

It likely will not, or doesn't for me. I'd go without it for a while and make sure WiFi calling is fine. (make a few calls and such) then later fill a report from within the app feedback. They will likely get back to you asking to change the logging level to everything and reproduce the problem. so maybe do that from the start. The more reports the better chance it gets fixed.

NEED URGENT HELP
I updted my LG G5 sprint to Nougat and since then the LG IMS stopped error has been popping every sec....
is anyone having this issue and how to fix it
LG G5 Text Message Issues since Adroid 7.0 Nougat Update
The problem with not receiving text messages reliably on an LG phone running Android 7.0 Nougat is related to the text messaging app that LG created and loaded onto our phones as the default messaging app. I reported this issue to LG about a month ago after extensive testing and I've confirmed that many 3rd party messaging apps will work reliably. For instance and app like Textra will work reliably and offers much more functionality than the built in LG app.
I even went as far as to provided my testing details then send my phone in for warranty repair so that LG could have a closer look and work towards a resolution but all LG did was factory reset my phone and said that the phone worked fine. When I got it back I tested again and the issue remained. I firmly believe LG has no idea how to resolve this software issue and is ignoring it at this point and basically screwing their customers over. Luckily the solution is to ditch the LG messaging app and use any 3rd party messaging app instead.....but I would encourage anyone having this issue to hold LG to task and report it to them as this issue is a direct result of a poorly written application they created.
This is my first LG and it will be my last....never again!
