[Q] Flashing the latest SD 10.1 on an outdated M8 - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
My friend's device has had the same ROM since she got the phone (Viperone M8 v1.8) which is really old! I was thinking of just flashing the latest TWRP recovery using fastboot and then installing SkyDragon v10.1, so would that be possible or do I have to flash the latest firmware as well? And if so, does the device HAVE to be S-OFF? When I was running a custom ROM and wanted to go S-OFF in the past, it was a huge hassle and it took me a lot of time to finally get it to work and I don't even remember the process or want to go through it again, unless there's an easier (non-paid) way nowadays.
Thanks guys!

I tried flashing the latest TWRP recovery but it didn't work:

Any ideas?

Return to stock rom + stock recovery, update the phone with official OTA and then flash custom roms. Written everywhere around and check the stickied threads in the general. Fairly easy.....you are around for a while to know how this forum works. And stop spamming the serial and imei around in your posts, delete them ! They don't belong on the www they are private !
And here are backups
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
Took me 1 minute......
Edit :
Ow to be clear, restore the 1.54 orang001 cid backup and check for ota. Download it but apply it later. Then take out the recovery from the ota zip and flash it. Then you have the stock recovery and are able to apply the actual ota's (yes there will be multiple)

Thank you for your reply. I've never really had a branded device before so that was the struggle. The device is my colleague's, therefore I'm trying to be as cautious as possible. The thread you linked me to apparently contains a zip backup of stock firmware for the same cid so that's pretty awesome, however I cannot find the appropriate recovery img from the ones listed. Any ideas where I can find one? I'm having a difficult time finding things for ORANG001 on the forum.

Any 1.54.xx stock recovery will work.

Thank you so much for your help, I truly appreciate it and I cannot wait to try this. Have a great day!!

[Q] Which version of everything should I use?

Hi,
I have a HTC One M7 WLV (the 4g from Verizon). Recently it had some problems and I had to factory reset it, however I opted for changing to another ROM. It did not go well, and I blame it on not knowing the correct version of recovery/kernel/rom to use on it. So I figured I could ask you guys.
Here is the "getvar all" for my phone:
Code:
(bootloader) version: 0.5
(bootloader) version-bootloader: 1.54.0000
(bootloader) version-baseband: 4T.21.3218.21
(bootloader) version-cpld: None

(bootloader) boot-mode: FASTBOOT
(bootloader) commitno-bootloader: dirty-0e82187e
(bootloader) hbootpreupdate: 11
(bootloader) gencheckpt: 0
all: Done!
finished. total time: 0.062s
And my current recovery is the latest ClockworkMod i could find (6.0.4.8).
Recon that should be enough to figure the correct version.
I am looking to install an as-vanilla-as-possible ROM of Google Play Edition for the latest version of it.
Could someone post the links for downloads of all the files I might need (including bootloader, recovery and kernel if needed)?
Thanks a bunch!

I'm relatively new to this phone, so it's fresh in my memory... I can see you've got s-off, so I assume your bootloader is also unlocked? Assuming it is, I would say to first flash the latest of the MDMower build of TWRP found here. I too was in the habit of using CWM, but I found the version you reference is way too slow doing wipes, backups, etc. (and therefore suspicious). Also, most current ROM threads and devs seem to be recommending TWRP for this device. Now that I've used TWRP for a while, I'm happy with it.
Next I would suggest following the advice in the OP of this to thread install the NuSenseSIX ROM. In particular, update your firmware according to this post. Once you've got TWRP, the latest firmware and NuSenseSIX running as a stock-like point of reference, you can backup, try other ROMs, etc. The same excellent developer, santod040, who packaged the latest firmware and NuSenseSIX ROM has also released a couple of nice GPE ROMs (totally stock and "plus").
FWIW, I'm currently running cm11 for the m7vzw with TinyKernel in order to get the "logo2menu" feature.
Finally, prior to getting my phone unlocked and up-to-date, I also found the links in this post quite helpful.

You are on an old firmware (hboot is 1.54 when we have hboot 1.57) and your radio is odd, not a Verizon radio. Use the link above to flash the latest Verizon radio and firmware. There is a thread to put your CID back to stock (your getvar all shows all ones and it should be VZW__001 and the Fastboot command is "fastboot oem writecid VZW__001" iirc) as for GPE, there is a couple that are pure port from the m7 GPE in the development section. Almost all devs recommend TWRP for stock (sense) and GPE roms.

Update your firmware like they said, then I recommend this for GPE

I have had nothing but issues with cwm over the years on different phones. Twrp is the most reliable I have seen. So once you update everything to the latest you should be able to enjoy all the ROMs are have. Be it santod, hawk, and so on

Hi guys, thanks for the answers!
For the record, the versions indicated by bmeek all worked. Throughout the process I also found I had a corrupted /data partition and managed to fix it with this tutorial:

Well, at times the search function on these forums doesn't give out results quite right, just search on google. Add site:forum.xda-developers.com at the end of your search and it'll search these threads and give you plenty of results.

How are you trying to flash this firmware, with TWRP
What are you trying to do, when you asked for the firmware and/or stock recovery, I figured that you knew exactly what it is that you're going to do. Are you trying to update your phone to latest firmware?
Are you trying to get OTA(hence stock recovery? ).
Please provide some more details as to what it is that you're trying to accomplish and the steps that you took in order to give you that error.
I was trying to revert to stock firmware and recovery, recovery is fine its just the Zip that says signature fail, not using twrp and everything is relocked ie bootloader, S-ON
Got the exact same issue. I can't find the RUU file that would work and I now only have bootloader to work with. Bootloader Relocked (Shows "Tampered", "Relocked" and "Security warning"), S-ON.

[Q] Trouble getting back to stock on German One m8

Hello xda-Community!
First off, I have posted this a couple of weeks ago in the general help thread, however it quickly got swarmed and lost, so I wanted to try again.
I have run into some trouble with my O2 HTC One M8. First, my readout from fastboot:
Code:
fastboot getvar all
(bootloader) version: 0.5
(bootloader) version-bootloader: 3.16.0.0000
(bootloader) version-baseband: 1.15.2133156.UA13G
(bootloader) version-cpld: None
(bootloader) version-microp: None
(bootloader) version-main:
(bootloader) version-misc: PVT SHIP S-ON
(bootloader) serialno:

(bootloader) modelid: 0P6B10000
(bootloader) cidnum: O2___102

(bootloader) battery-voltage: 0mV
(bootloader) partition-layout: Generic
(bootloader) security: on
(bootloader) build-mode: SHIP
(bootloader) boot-mode: FASTBOOT
(bootloader) commitno-bootloader: ab0efa49
(bootloader) hbootpreupdate: 11
(bootloader) gencheckpt: 0
all: Done!
I have been running CM11 for some months and am pretty happy with it, but I want to upgrade to Lollipop. However, the phone won't let me do that, as hboot is only version 3.16.0.0000 and Lollipop needs 3.19 (apparently). The version_main is empty for some reason, I did not erase that part.
But now comes the kicker: To upgrade hboot, I need to return to stock (or set the CID to SuperCID), right?
Now, I cannot return to stock, because there is no RUU / nandroid backup for my CID (O2___102).
As I don't have S-OFF, I cannot install any other RUU. To get S-OFF with SunShine, I need to be on stock though, because right now I get the following error message: "Your device has a debuggable ramdisk (ro.debuggable=1). You need to flash a non-debuggable boot.img, stock would be best."
So basically: I need to get back to stock to go back to stock, or am I reading this wrong?
Is there a way out of this?
In the general help thread, someone said I should flash a ROM close to stock (he/she suggested Maximus HD) for this to go away, but I cannot flash any ROM besides the CM11 one I am already on, as none of the other ROMs allow me to boot - I simply get stuck during boot-up and have to reflash CM11 to use the phone.
The recovery I am using is TWRP 2.7.0.2 if that information is necessary or helpful.
Thanks in advance for anybody who can help me.
Have you try stock nandroid backup 1.54.206.5 or 1.12.206.17 from this thread ?

Well god damn it. I had tried those but apparently, they got corrupted in the download. Just tried again (from my laptop) and it worked marvellously. Thank you for your reply!

WiFi issues since flashing latest ARHD

I followed the instructions fine and never hit a snag, upgrading from Android 4.4.4 stock but rooted to the latest ARHD running Android 5.0.1. I'm not sure if the issue is related to the lollipop update or the rom but once my phone screen locks I lose my WiFi connection. I can go into WiFi and see the available networks, select my one and click connect but nothing happens, the only way to get WiFi working again is to restart the phone which is becoming really frustrating. I have tried forgetting the network then re adding it too but the issue remains. Anyone else had this problem or know of a fix?
On a less annoying note when iIstart up it first acts like it's loafing bootloader with the red text at the bottom of the screen then restarts itself and boots fine.

Take the 4.16.401.10, that will work. And if you also put back the stock recovery you can also perform official OTA updates.

Post the current getvar all.
Also, you should delete the serial number from your last getvar all (and the new one, of course) as that is personal info.
You may need to OTA again. I think some OTAs had WiFi broken, even on fully stock devices; and it was fixed on a subsequent OTA.
If you restore a backup 4xx10 and made Ota to 4xx13 he did not update the firmware. Must restore the backup 3xxx and make ota. This will solve the problems with wifi.

I was thinking along those lines (why I asked for updated getvar data) as the radio number indicates 3.xx firmware.
But I am surprised up updated at all, with the improper (old) firmware.
I do not see any other reason malfunction wifi, in addition to hardware failure.
The last ota was not large, so it may be that it could be downloaded. Let's wait author may write off something that already everything is running or not

Hi, szyminindy...
I don't have the technical expertise to help you, but the guys who do, are likely going to ask you to post a...
Code:
fastboot getvar all
...output.
This will provide them with something to help diagnose your problem, and hopefully come up with a solution.
Dont forget to edit out (remove), your IMEI and device SERIAL numbers before posting.
Good luck.
Rgrds,
Ged.
EDIT: ...and which you have now done... :good:
Your bootloader is unlocked? If so, your device is not bricked at all.
Download twrp: https://dl.twrp.me/m8/twrp-2.8.7.0-m8.img.html
fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.7.0-m8.img
Now you have twrp, download some rom(sense,cm,aosp) and flash it.
Maybe someone posted twrp nand and recovery for your cid/mid(so you can get stock 6.0).
EDIT: Actually it's posted
It's on ckpv5's thread, you got lucky, you can easily get your stock 6.0
When you got some working rom(doesnt matter sense/cm/aosp), here is the stock recovery for your cid https://mega.nz/#!P8oHETTQ!0iKB-iZhMlfYKiE1jvBMyZtribJKgV-hf4Zdy2zAiig and stock rom
