[Q] Get imei by adb or fastboot H815 - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Working on a G4 H815 5.0.1 un-rooted how can I pull its imei using adb or fastboot getvar ?
tried:
Code:
getprop gsm.baseband.imei
dumpsys iphonesubinfo
gsm.imei
ril.imei
ro.gsm.imei
but I get no output
using
Code:
adb shell services call iphonesubinfo 1
I get a long HEX and the imei but I dont know how to parse it using Batch commands
also on htc devices I know there is
Code:
fastboot getvar imei
but its not working on lg maybe there is an alternative ?

Hi,
I know you are asking the question about through ADB or Fastboot but you are aware you can get the IMEI number through the Settings, General, About phone, Status section?
Regards,
Ravi

Yes I know that, I just want to know how to do it programmaticly

Actually this is important to know because my locked bootloader LG G4 H815 is bricked. I need to unlock its bootloader (to flash TWRP custom recovery) but the unlocking procedure requires to enter the IMEI number.
My phone goes in to Download mode. So any one who can answer the question asked in the OP.
Update: I guess IMEI would also be written under the battery as well. I don't have the phone right now. Will check it out first.

Hold vol up+vol down+power, all three buttons, until display turns on and shows IMEI. Since you have non-removable battery, I guess you don't have LG G4, but you can try this method, it works on G4...

Help with LG G4 Model Number

Hi,
I am confused regarding my LG G4 model number.
Because Under About Phone -> Hardware Info it shows LG-H815.
But when I connect it to pc & using adb devices, adb lists it as LGLS991e484402e.
Also LS991 0423 is printed on back of the phone near camera & speaker.
But under the battery the sticker with IMEI displays LG-H815 !
What is the model number ?
I need to find it in order to update it.
Are you checking for compatibility with a rom? If so, H815 is the number you're looking for.

Don't worry about the LS991 number. H815 is the version of your phone, the G4 international.

How are you planning on updating? Flashing a rom from xda-developers? If you're not sure, I'd recommend something like imperium rom, which is based on stock and has much the same behavior but is rooted with more options. Just make sure to download the one for H815. Of course, you'll need to have an unlocked bootloader and custom recovery before you can do this. Do you have custom recovery already?

Is there any way to install custom recovery without Download mode (& of course without root !) ? Because there is one more problem ! I cant get into download mode. If I use Vol up+ & insert usb cable then I get "Secure boot error 1014" & if i use adb reboot-bootloader or reboot bootloader phone restarts normally. Also fastboot mode is not working. Fastboot devices either do nothing or waiting for device ! USB debugging & OEM unlock is on.

The only method we have for our phones at this point is to use Download mode.... have you done some research on that error? Google or the forum search tool?

Yes I have searched for that & some related errors. But almost all of them says that it is because of locked bootloader & to unlock the bootloader I need to enter fastboot mode (Not working as of now) also I have tried many drivers mentioned in the posts (LG universal, LG WHQL etc), LG Bridge, LG PC suit, LG flash tool, LG mobile support tool etc & Also tried the same things on Windows 7.
I don't really know much about fastboot problems, you'll have to look elsewhere for help. Sounds like that's your next step, though. Look for people who can help you get fastboot/download mode working.

Hi Vishesh,
Were you able to rectify the problem and and update the phone ? I am facing the same problem with my g4 H815

I think my note 4 is the only one in the world with this problem... (not clickbait)

So basically, I have a Verizon note 4 with permanent root. I bought it second hand and it came with permanent root, but the problem is that I have no idea if it has an unlocked bootloader or not . It doesn't have any custom recovery on it aswell. But then it gets me to question how the heck did it get a Permanent ROOT without getting an unlocked bootloader. Oh and i also don't get shown a verizon logo when i reboot my device, only a samsung logo. And i live in South Asia btw, and can run a local
sim with 3g on it no problem as well....
Also worth mentioning is that on "About Device" in "Settings", it says SM-910F...but when i go to fastboot mode, it says SM-910V, and when i connect it to computer, it also says verizon model. Anyways, the real problem is finding out if my phone has bootloader or not. (READ BELOW ASWELL)
Any suggestions plez
PS: I tried to put a code in the dialer, something like *#*#7432XXXX*#*# (tried a lot of diff. codes in dialers aswell). PLUS, I also tried finding if i had an unlocked bootloader from adb and fast boot where u put this command in; "fastboot oem device-info" something like that, but I cant get "fastboot devices" to work (it doesn't give any result even with proper usb drivers and while in fastboot menu from phone) :crying: plez halp me....

Well it doesn't say so ... sadly.
Anyways, I'm still wondering how the heck did someone install permanent root without unlocking this Verizon??? Like you have to do temporary root and then you unlock bootloader, and then you do perm root... how does one bypass that?

There probably isn't, if you've altered system and relock and toggle OEM unlocking off in dev. options you get bricked.

Did you try:
fastboot flashing unlock
Since you only relocked, you unlikely toggled "OEM unlock"?!
If it fails, I think you are SOL. Maybe someone with a proper solution will chime in. Otherwise, you have to RMA your device...
Good luck...

Hey... Go into recovery and perform a factory reset.
Reboot bootloader and flash stock firmware. You could flash both slots to be sure your device is completely clean.
I wrote a how-to for someone having another issue. You.can follow this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=71849370&postcount=28
When you are finished with flashing, reboot to be sure your system boot properly and your phone works as it should...
From here you can reboot into bootloader and issue:
fastboot flashing lock
If It was me I'd leave it unlocked though... Or at least OEM unlock enabled and ADB debugging ON. Since Google tend to release messed up OTA, you can always unlock the bootloader if needed.
But if you wish you can also disable the OEM unlock.
Good luck...

I'm pretty inexperienced with this kind of stuff and so you might have to explain it a bit further than what that link says. I did fastboot reboot bootloader in terminal but it can't find my device. Also I couldnt get into recovery when it was bricked so I probably still can't

Hey...
You boot into bootloader when the Device is powered off
Just like in your video: with power + volume down
You can see infos regarding:
Bootloader
Radio
S/N
DRAM
Boot-slot=
Etc...
This is the bootloader :good:
From here, unzip the google image you have downloaded, open the folder and from here run the flash-all script. Let your device reboot. Power it down, boot into bootloader again with power + volume down. Change active slot as I described in the link I gave you previously. Run the same flash-all again... Done!
Just for safety, remove your Google account before you continue. You'll add it again later...
Good luck...

Hey... Flash both slots... Just to be sure both are clean and nothing problematic remains on your device before locking your bootloader!
It could brick installing an OTA or whatever. Better restart 100% clean. :good:
Cheers...
Just flash the flash-all, relock and call it a day. Then you'll be fully stock and locked. I would however recommend rebooting once before locking to make sure its all good.

Hi,

looking for solution I found this on Youtube:

I did that and yeah it entered this mode but it's not valid bootloader/fastboot mode. It's some service mode to update firmware. Anyway it's not visible in pc as a normal fastboot and I cannot proceed further with unlocking bootloader...
Edit: it's download mode... So as I said it's not fastboot mode.
Anyone can help?

Thanks yeah I checked but that's for ARB<=2 devices. I forgot to mention earlier this godforsaken thing is ARB3.
I have an H811 (T-Mo) running firmware H81120p, ARB3. Doesn't seem to be much that can be done with it as far as rooting. It also has no stock recovery, only boots to system.
you did follow this official guide right? it unlocked mine after a few angry moments
http://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev
use minimal ADB https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790
Only way to boot twrp later is to use fastboot with ADB, recovery with buttons doesn't work.
if the device wont boot a rom use adb to get back in recovery.
if you use bank apps, install magisk before installing rom, do not get SU

Only problem is that the info linked to above applies to ONE G4 variant only - the H815 international model. The rest of us are SOL. The bootloader on US carrier G4 - AT&T, T-Mo, VzW, etc (most later firmware revisions for G3 as well) models has been nailed down. The only exception is a G4 with ARB <= 2 can be hacked with UsU in order to root it and install a custom recovery.

Tmo is very easy
Go to dev options and enable adb
Then run "adb reboot bootloader"
Once there, run "fastboot oem unlock" and voila, you have an officially unlocked bootloader with no restrictions related to UsU
Please be aware the above will factory reset your device

Why v20o
Remember, this has nothing to do with UsU and therefore ARB etc doesn't matter
Edit: ps there are loads of H811 users in my Lineage thread and the other ROMs too

Got it. Guess that it makes sense. ARB prevents rolling back to earlier release than 20o, I'm ok. Will try the BL unlock today then.

I actually managed to get my LG V20 F800L into same situation after messing up my rooting process.
First i was stuck at logo and factory reset did nothing. Bootloader was working then.
Then i downloaded new firmware through "Download Mode", and after that i lost access to bootloader.
I know the phone model is different, but process seems to be very similar for all LG devices.
Trying to troubleshoot that atm, if i'll have results i'll post them here.
P.S. I know original poster long left (probably after throwing phone into a grinder), but maybe for someone with same problem as us in the future the info will be useful.

Ok, now i have to reply to my own post, since i believe i understand now something important:
LG phones usually dont have bootloader open to access. Until you use some exploits to do so.
I did not know that at the time of writing that reply.

Question Bricked while trying to unlock Bootloader

Hey guys, i received my OP9 Pro today and wanted to update it, then unlock the bootloader
Now i have blackscreen only. When i press Vol+ and Power, i get to the point where the warning with the orange text comes (So the bootloader is unlocked), but then it goes black again
The command "Adb Devices" Shows me my device, but in unauthorized state
Any Advice?

Keep holding it down continuously until you get somewhere, even during the black screen. No idea. Just something to try. Good luck.

That did not work. But Thanks!
Somehow i came into the fastboot mode. I think it worked because i pressed no button after the screen flashed for a millisecond. Then i locked the bootloader again, rebooted into bootloader, typed " fastboot flashing unlock" and that command worked perfectly fine. Weird but it worked
Just used the tool all in one to unlock the bootloader
