Serverside Tapatalk privacy issue? - About xda-developers.com

Today germanies biggest it news site posted an article about a privacy issue with the serverside tapatalk plugin. It seems that this plugin reads username and email adress of every registered user and transmits these data to the tapatalk company.
Is this known to the xda administration?

HTC Sense Twitter not accepting login

Hi,I discovered two hours ago that my twitter account associated with the HTC Sense wasn't syncing at all,a message about server not responding was displayed. All other accounts like google, facebook, flickr all seem to be ok. So,I decided to remove the twitter account from "Account&Sync" and recreate it with the same username and password but kept getting "invalid username and password" everytime.I signed in via web browser, the loving details were accepted. Does anyone have this same issue?

I can confirm I'm having this EXACT same issue! It's just started happening! Thank goodness I'm not alone, for a second there I thought my phone was f*cked.
Downloaded official Twitter from the marketplace and that's working. Maybe Twitter has decided to block Peep for some reason?
Glad you mentioned this, I've flashed a few roms today and wiped my phone and changed my password - all because I couldn't log into Twitter with HTC Sense and like jedininja666 I thought my phone was broken! I'm getting a bit annoyed now! First the market stops working (download unsuccessful most of the time) and now this...
This is due to twitter changing thier authentication. Peep must used the old auth not the new one.
Read aboout it a few mins ago Twitter - Login Errors Your going to have to wait for HTC to update Peep.

Thanks for the update,I thought I was going nuts when I couldn't retrieve my tweets via peeps. Hope HTC will sort out this issue cos I get most of my tech updates via tweeter.

No problem here, I get twits thru FriendsStream widget and Peep without problem. No login errors. Using NexTSense v7.0.
I freakin' hate the Twitter Dev's for this. I'm sure it will be a while before HTC figures this out.
same problem
everything worked fine till yesterday. I did factory reset and now i am unable to log in to peep. Official client works fine, i can login through opera mobile, mobile web browser. But i want Friend Stream!
I use the official app as Peep is rubbish!!
No comments from HTC's official twitter account about this despite much angst from users.
The changes to the twitter authentication method have been public knowledge for nearly a year now and should have been dealt with before now... after all social integration is a key part of the Sense sales pitch...
The official twitter app is a poor substitute in my eyes...

How is it poor? Peep is a terrible app, HTC should've written the official app into 2.2 and done away with Peep altogether IMO. Having said that, I don't use FriendStream as I prefer to use the individual apps/widgets
+1..so terrible..twitter dev should inform HTC first before they made changes..now we users have to suffer for waiting the update from HTC!!

They did - over 6 months ago!
This is HTC's fault pure and simple.

How is Peep terrible? Well, apart from not support OAuth!
I prefer Peep too - mostly because of the widget. I've installed the official Twitter app now as Peep isn't working, but I still prefer Peep.
I rather like Touiteur too, but you only get the widgets with the paid version, and since Peep is fine for me and free, I'd rather use that.

Would it be correct to assume that you only experience this problem if you remove and readd your account, or if you are setting up a new rom ? Meaning, that until you don't log out, it stays in ???

I found that whilst I could still update Twitter via Peep, I couldn't get any updates, rendering it rather useless.

Around this time last year I was building Twitter integration into a website for client using ASP.NET and even then the Twitter developer site urged using oAuth instead of basic authentication. HTC obviously thought they wouldn't disable basic auth!

[Q] [FEATURE REQUEST] Facebook/Google/OpenID integration and login.

I'd like to see XDA logins be integrated with Facebook or Google or OpenID. What do you think? And, does XDA have an idea to implement this?
+1
yea, and more psudonymous collection of information which could arise in legal complications for XDA?,
No thanks
Hell, NO :banghead:
Why do people want integration? Can't you remember your password?
The less sharing between websites the better of personal data and information.
I want this, since i most often forget my passwords, lost a reddit account once.

openID doesn't require any sharing of data beyond the identity itself, requires users approve what personal information is shared if more than just identity, and would be optional for those who would wish their login be completely separate from any other online identity. many users already provide Google email addresses, Facebook account information, paypal account information and other personally identifying information in their profile. openID would also allow people to login using their own trusted methods, rather than hoping this site is never compromised along with its password database. check out stackexchange; they've got openID sign in done right. since its the future and all, I should be able to have /one/ online identity, which I can manage myself (without google or facespace), and use that identity on any other site if I choose. and I for one like having one less password.

XDA-Developers at identi.ca

I like identi.ca a lot (because it's almost 100% geeky) and there is no XDA-Developers account there like Twitter has, so I've setup a account for the users that like identi.ca too.
Here it is: http://identi.ca/xdadevelopers

It might be better off if you post this in this thread because even though it's not exactly the same, it could be linked plus admins have posted in that thread so they'll see this easier.

Well in your profile there is "send pm" and "send mail" huh
So they didn't get your email adress, just a reply Form I guess.
Edit : hum seems that changed a bit. I was sure there was send mail option once. But still it displays your email adress.

Portal doesn't auto login to disqus anymore ?

Hello, it seems the portal doesn't auto log to disqus logged XDA users, while I never registered to disqus, it seems XDA did had something uner the hood to take care of that, and I was able to write as myself with my avatar without additional "work" on my side, now I need to register or post as guest.
Was this feature removed or is it something that was forgotten with last portal changes ?
Regards,
Magissia
It is not surprising to encounter such troubles when outsourcing a commenting system to a third party service that requires creation of its own user account. I am not running into your same specific trouble as my XDA generated disqus account is still automatically logged into when navigating to an XDA article page. But there is certainly no crossover of my XDA forum avatar to the XDA disqus system. Nor am I able to use a personal disqus account on XDA unless I am completely logged out of the XDA forums first.
It would be optimal to have the option of linking an existing disqus account onto XDA, rather than having XDA automatically generate one. The XDA generated disqus account is inaccessible and unmanageable because it does not appear to be linked to any email address. I found a closed thread identifying this issue (http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/xda-assist/disqus-account-created-automatically-t3157844), however, it does not offer any resolution of how to directly manage an XDA generated disqus account. Nor does there seem to be a process of linking an existing disqus account onto XDA.
A recommendation for best control would be to use a personal disqus account over the XDA generated disqus mishmash. Unfortunately this would involve a clunky process of using a two different browser sessions to log into both XDA and a personal disqus account at the same time, then copying article links in between.
We actually have integration so that it should be logged in with your XDA account on the portal. We made a major style change on the portal and that part of the integration wasn't complete. It should be fixed now.
Hi, I am reviving this thread because I am having that same issue now. It's a new year, and I'm wondering if something happened during the time change that caused this to happen. Please help!
Yeah, same here. Was always either auto logged in with my XDA account or i COULD login with XDA.
I do have a disqus account (mainly for some other sites), but i would like to comment on XDA WITH my XDA profile.
Can this be fixed ?
It is fixed now.I dont know by who, but thanks anyway.
