Anyone care to speculate on the quality of this. Is it likely to be better than the GS2 or about the same?
I have only seen one sample video & not much could be judged from that.

1080p. All said, pretty much.
Its pretty damn good. From tge videos i ve watched it seems like there is a missing frame here and there but nothing to cry about. Excellent quality for a phone.
I voided my warranty and your nexus.
video quality really isn't all that important to me, but i'd love for someone to upload an uncompressed video at full resolution to have a look at it instead of seeing youtube's rendition of the footage.

I am hopefully on the video recording front as recent reports on the still camera quality seem pretty positive. Shows that at least this time they have put some consideration into this side of things. Not something that could be said about my Nexus One.
Ive seen and heard mixed reports in still shots quality. Even the negatives ive heard were somebody too focused on not being 8mp and everybody pretty much saying its a way better than average 5mp shooter. Definitely n1 was not great. Atrix camera is average but ive taken some decent videos, in broad daylight. Cant say much about low light shots. They either come out great or blurry. Im have hopes for the nexus. .and even more hope we'll get a 32 gig gsm version so we have room to record videos.

e-dub, goto gsmarena and look at their Nexus hands-on they have a full res mp4 you can download.
This video is fairly good at showing real world expectations. Includes close up focus, colors, outdoors, low light high light transitions

Can you find camera/video options similar to say the GS2 or is it still a more pared down experience as per the earlier Nexus devices, I don't know the full details of how many options they have added into the basic ICS camera/video interface?

Not exactly low light, that room will be very well lit from all the sunshine coming through the windows...
I'd be so keen for this phone if it could take reasonable night photos.

1080p means nothing. Its about image stability and fps. Most android phones have horrendous fpS making videos look like they're dropping frames and people skipping around the scene.
Can't post a link atm, but youtube Samsung Galaxy Nexus 1080p full HD video sample and the second video has a good low-light video recording, pretty damn good too imo.

That video is what I thought...choppy and horrible.(boththe Yt but the original file)
If you can drop to 5mp for speed you can drop to 720p for a steady frame rate.
The quality of 1080p video is terrible, according to Eatmycomputer:
http://eatmycomputer.com/2011/11/20/eatmycomputer-take-the-galaxy-nexus-for-a-1080p-walk-round-town-london-town-that-is/
Maybe they got an early pre-relise device or is it always this bad? Can someone who has a Galaxy Nexus check it out?
watched it and about 10 others on 4 phones, they are all pretty crappy, even the 4s which seems to be the best...
it will never be production quality, but it is 1000x better than what i have got so far with the Desire so will be happy with that.
The quality isn't poor so much as the auto-exposure settings which is resulting in poor shots, this could be improved with software updates or by manually setting the exposure.
1080p video samples, raw and unedited:

It feels like taking the video under water,
and most of the sample video on Youtube are the same.
The video quality of this phone is indeed terrible
It's a cellphone. Don't be blinded by 1080p!!11
Jerky video no matter you slice it. It is what it is.

Just tried it and it doesn't seem that bad. At least it's continuous autofocus.
Just like with photos, resolution does not equal quality.
I dont see why everyone thinks its so bad, for a cell phone its pretty damn good for everyday use since you will pretty much carry it everywhere with you, much better camera then my thunderbolt had thats for sure.

Yes, I don't mind having 5MP before seeing the video sample.
The "under-water" like feature for video is not acceptable at all.
hi all. today I got my new m9 and I admit that I'm really excited. despite all the talks about the bad camera, this does the job for me. however the video recording is really bad. I noticed very poor performance indoors (with quite much sun light in the house) with very few details and basically one of the worst video recordings. the video gets better outside but when I zoom at max, the image looks so bad. I recorded the same scene with the m9 and my previous htc one s and the one s captured more details at max zoom and the image looked cleaner. all this happened with at 1080p recording. when I switched to 4k things were better, the video was at the same level, maybe a little better than my one s. but this isn't supposed to happen. the photos taken in max zoom are good but when i record video they are much worse. i think using the google camera that things are a little better at video shooting. also i think that when I start recording video, it automatically zooms a little bit. I have installed latest OTA and latest camera update from playstore. I will appreciate if you can share your video shooting experience here, basically if you experience such bad image quality when you fully zoom in at 1080p. Thank you.

I know what you mean, it gets really pixelatedat max zoom, I believe this is to do with the sharpness which hadn't been completely addressed, the ip6 and note 4 are far more capable in terms of the camera, bit of a bummer but not a great deal you can do about it. Try a different camera app, snap camera is quite good.
Say "cheese", then rate this thread to express how photos taken with the LG G5 come out. A higher rating indicates that photos offer rich color (without over-saturating), sharp detail (with all subjects in-focus), and appropriate exposure (with even lighting).
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

This thread is about the G5's camera, so that's irrelevant... Unless, of course, they use the same camera and I didn't know?
But I still agree with you. I don't see how that's possible that the G3 has a better camera.

I came from the S7 and before that the iPhone 6s Plus. I can't take decent photos with the G5 to save my life. It's frustrating.
What?? Is it true that G5 has worst camera ? Phonearena says it has best camera when compared with S7 and 6s plus.

If you put it in manual mode and mess with it a bit it'll take great pics. Auto mode sucks. For me at least. And yes, I've made sure the lens is clean and all that.

I understand. But it is hard to take all the pics in manual mode. I have G3 now and planning to by G5 in a couple of months and it seems i have to rethink about G5.
Yeah, this phone takes great manual photos, but that's about it. The anti-shake was way better in the G4 over the G5- does the G5 no longer have the laser focus? It was incredible how good the pictures were with the flash off on the G4; in my experience, most phones (including Samsung) take shaky photos with flash off, and are able to focus much better with flash on.
Also, like in all LG phones, panorama is completely useless. They should just get rid of the feature altogether. It doesn't matter how slow or steady I move, everything always comes out jagged. Very annoying.
yeah, I feel the same, my dads G3 camera is awesome... but even under the the G5s latest v10d, the images were clearer and OIS was more stable on the G4 in AUTO mode. I do use Manual mode alot, but sometimes its nice just to pull out your phone and snap a quick situation or a few quick images.
Intrestingly, I find sometimes in "Auto" mode, switiching "OIS" OFF (toggle "OIS" and "steady cam" mode in camera settings), takes better Macro shots, which says to me.. that in its current state, the G5 camera needs work.
However, the G5 camera is a really great camera and a really great device all round, its just a shame reviewers seem to go more for how it looks rather than its innovations
Mine are crisper and more detailed with g4, specially the front canera. Could be this due to an high compression? Maybe there's a trick to loer jpeg compression!

Nonsense.
LOL! The worst camera comparison in history. I am not saying G5 is the best but it is certainly not what the website said it was.
Hey look! Comments section was closed. Go figures.
Anyway, the last close up shot was the worst! No reputable review site would use close up image more than 100%. These are camera sensor made for phones, they are not meant to be zoom beyond 100%.
I Love this phone's Cameras: my pics are coming out better, sharper and better balanced than any other phone i have had my hands on this months and that includes: 6s, 6s+, G4, and S7. Of course this is subjective but i really LOVE the camera. (Auto mode is meh tough when compared to 6s', need to be objective there. I was taking a pic today: my girlfriend's face with a stongly lighted background _door in the sun_ and even if messing wigh manual mode gave me the best pic, auto mode just wasn't keeping it up with my gf's 6s which gave out a decent picture immediately.)
Gotta be honest. (Of course i didn't tell her )
I'm somehow disappointed. The camera oversharpens the pictures most of the time. But the wide-angle camera always oversharpens them. I wonder if it could be fixed with a newer software? Also the pictures get blurry at the slightest movement. But it's still a good camera.
4/5
very high
Camera is very good especially in Manual mode but one thing I found out about the Auto mode that HDR tends to blur details a lot more when zoomig in than taking picture with HDR option turned Off. Hope they improve the camera on Nougat update.
I'm also pretty disappointed with the quality of the G5 pictures in auto mode. Not that they're bad or anything, but I find myself having to take multiple pictures to get acceptable results, particularly in poor lighting. Never had that issue with my G4.

P. S. Is still beta software on the phone or it is release full version?
Hi dears,
the V300L I have is the final consumer one but the firmware is still in beta.
Today the first firmware update: now it's V10j with Google patch up to September 1th. It is an update of 297MB but I didn't see any log online.
I confirm... there is a lot to work around for the picture and video quality but we have the hardware... it's just a software deal.

can't say I'm all that impressed by the camera. It fine and all not not a anything too different from other flagships. From other pictures I've seen all that talk about glass lens and 1.6 aperture doesn't really translate to anything special. Larger aperture but a smaller actual sensor doesn't really gain you much it seems. I've seen at least one person say the auto mode isn't that great, just like the V20. Hopefully, I'm wrong and it's an improvement.
The DAC is what keeps me interested, and maybe video.

I should agree. After using my new V300SJ10 I'm kinda disappointed in the wide-angle camera. The image is sometimes blurry on the sides/top/bottom, and looks like it was caused by the software, not hardware (even with both HDR and noise reduction OFF, and even in good light conditions). Hope it will be fixed in the next updates.
I'm impressed with the portrait camera though, it makes really great pictures! The video quality is very good as well.

Thanks. But you take pictures wrong. You should set HDR to off when taking photos indoors on V30. Look how blurry V30 gets when HDR is on
It's not OK but HDR is to blame, not camera itself

Yes, by portrait camera I meant the main "16 MP f/1.6" camera. The second "13 MP f/1.9" one is not as good as the first one
By the way, I've also tested sound quality today and I'm not impressed
I was thinking of replacing my COWON Plenue D player with the V30, but unfortunately the sound difference is pretty noticeable, COWON sounds much clearer and open (by much, I mean, that I can pass blind test for sure). Maybe some people would find it subtle, but I like electronic music and this difference is huge for me. For testing I used FLACs by the "Demoscene Time Machine" guy (like this: https://soundcloud.com/demoscenetimemachine/demoscene-time-machine-memcpy) and Sennheiser IE80 buds. Both COWON and V30 EQ settings was set to Normal (HiFi DAC was enabled in V30, tried different settings, even EQ, but nothing helped).
The phone is pretty much cramped all together with other noise emitting components. Audiophiles pretty much know that there isn't much sound quality expected other than the extra amp power. We tried the high impedance mode and we weren't impressed either.
Camera = not yet there
Software = not yet there
Quad DAC = not close to a $100-500 portable dac
POLED screen = needs improvements
Battery = showed positive endurance results
We can say it is jack of all trades, master of none.
