[Q] MDL bootloader worth upgrading? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Still rocking the MDL bootloader with MK2 modem. Been running latest 5.1.1 roms and not really having too many issues but I keep seeing people saying they upgraded BL to the latest for their variant(On the i9505 forums). I dont care about tripping knox or anything. Would it be worth it to odin NK2 and just start fresh with the latest firmware? Trying to get the most out of this device without getting into another payment with Tmobile.
Thanks!

Let's say you upgrade your MDL bootloader, and upgrade to Android 4.4.4 (NK2) -- would the only way to downgrade back to MDL be to flash the MDL bootloader to override the NK2 bootloader which would then in turn allow you to install the entire MDL rom?

No once you upgrade past MDL to a knox boot loader there is no way to downgrade. At which point I don't think you could run an MDL based Rom because of the modem(not sure why you would want to anyways). I'm asking about upgrading for better compatibility with the latest roms available (5.0/5.1)

[Q] Update from MJ5 to MKx 4.3

Hi,
I installed the leaked MJ5 4.3 build, because I wanted to use my Gear.
However, now the official 4.3's are coming and I may want to upgrade to official in the future. MJ5 works fine however.
I have read that people bricked or got "flagged" by just flashing MK4 over MJ5.
Someone suggested to only flash the pda, and keep the mj5 bootloader and flash a "wifi patch", but I guess this is only for rooted phones.
What changes/methods are there to go to official, while remaing unrooted, fully official and knox capable? (Would like to use knox later on)
Somebody already tried the MJ5 to MK4 road while staying completey official?
Thanks....

Why do you ask? Can it be done without problems? Flashing another 4.3 rom over MJ5?

Well keep the MJ5 bootloader and use the wifi patch. That is the best option.
because MK4 wont allow you to downgrade EVER.(unless you visit the SSC)
Plus it has a KNOX enabled bootloader,so if you try rooting your phone or customizing it EVER you wont be able to do that easily and your phone (in your area) might lose warranty.
rest upto you
You can easily upgrade to the MK4 bootloader by a normal flashing method. But then dont try customizing it. Resetting ghe KNOX flas is not possible as of now.

I don't mind the knox bootloader, not planning to root, no need for downgrading, I am just worried that if the official 4.3 for my region is released I cannot flash it without problems over MJ5.
I also plan to use knox, actually.
That's all.

my 2 cents..
you dont mind the new bootloader.. dont wanna root... dont wanna downgrade..
then use odin to flash any official 4.3 update..
cheers..
Well, one of the guys (thread in my post above) who flashed mk4 over mj5 ran into problems with odin 3.09, but using 3.07 he succeeded, as it seems.

[Q] can i flash older firmware using Odin?

Hey guys so i have heard that if i install the old firmware for my s4 from sammobile using Odin one from early 2013 that it will give me access to service menu so that i can unlock my phone. So my question is that is it 100% safe to Odin flash the older 4.2.2 rom when i am on 4.3? Can i flash it unlock my phone then upgrade my phone to a custom rom again? Thank you i also am running a custom rom and have philz recovery installed.

If you are on 4.2.2 bootloader then yes, if on 4.3 bootloader then no, but you can try downgrading modems instead.. Also is the ROM you are on aosp/cm or tw based?

If you update to 4.3 by one of the following methods you're out of luck:
-OTA update
-Kies update
-Odin flash the full 4.3 firmware.
Like mentioned above, if you only flashed a 4.3 ROM but keep your MDL(4.2.2) bootloader you can go back.
Faaaaaaaaaaakkkkkkkkk i did Odin flash the full 4.3 Damnit stupid Samsung why the hell would they block downgrading? Okay so if i did try to Odin flash the older firmware what would happen? I doubt it'll hard brick my phone right i could prob try it if it doesn't work then I'll just Odin flash 4.3

[Q] Canadian bootloader and modem?

Hey, been trying to update my phone but most of the developers say don't use their bootloader and modem if we're from Canada, just wonder which ones are the right one. I'm with Bell and i can't get my Wi-Fi working
Thanks
Look in the srx thread. They have a kernel to fix that, cheers

Are you currently running a 4.3 rom with a 4.3 bootloader? If you are, don't try to flash any ROM that tries to downgrade your bootloader.
You can flash a stock firmware from here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=SGH-I747M&pcode=BMC#firmware
Did you ever have your wifi working?

Root and back to stock

I want to root my m919,my question is: if soft brick,i can back to stock with official 4.3 with knox? (sammobile) or simply can't. Thanks!

If you flash the official Samsung 4.3 Jellybean MK2 odin flash firmware you cannot go
back to the stock 4.2.2 Jellybean MDL firmware whether you root your phone or not.
Rooting the 4.3 official jellybean odin flash firmware will trip the knox counter unless
you do a lot of reading and find the alternative rooting methods here in xda.
Good luck!

4.3 update.

I have a note 2 I am running 4.4.2 Probam and love it. I just bought another note 2 for my wife and its 4.1.2. I plan on rooting but probably no custom ROMs. Just debloating on my own. Should I update to 4.3 or stay at where I am?
I have never updated my bootloader and use 4.3 touchwiz ROMs fine with devil kernel. What's my best move from some expertise experience. Not a nooby but not a developer. Thanks

It honestly depends on ur plans for that phone. If u never plan on rooting it I would definitely update to 4.3 using the ota. But that's just a personal opinion. If ur planning on rooting I wouldn't update to 4.3 using the ATT ota. If u update to ota 4.3 anytime u use odin it will trip the Knox counter. And then chance for a warranty replacement if u need it is slim to none. If ur planning on rooting there a a few really solid TW 4.3 roms out there with no worries about Knox.

4.1.2 is solid. Since it's your wife's phone, personal experience allows me to say leave it be. Lord help me if Candy Crush doesn't work.....
But you have an option.
A time saver to get to 4.3 and rooted on your current bootloader would be this.,,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2589891
AT&T UCUBMK6 i317 *Odexed* Stock ODIN Note 2
It's already rooted, all you have to do is debloat with Titanium BU or whatever.
From the thread -----> If you *are not* running Official 4.3 (MK6) or newer bootloader: After flashing one of the firmware packages above (the Stock ODIN) flash the bootloader package below in Odin to get wifi working (sorry, no option available for CWM/TWRP). I've included the Odin executable just after if needed.
Bootloader needs to be flashed only once. See post #2 for information on how to check what version of bootloader you have installed.
This is what you will flash:
AT&T i317 ODIN 4.3 UCUBMJ4 (Leak) Bootloader & TZ (AT&T Note 2 ONLY)
This bootloader will not trip Knox.
Thanks. Not worried about warranties. I rooted it at 4.1.2. I'd I update OTA to 4.3 am I still able to put a custom recovery on it? Kinda confused if the 4.3 update locks the bootloader and lastly wasn't the at&t s4 bootloader able to be unlocked when it first came out? Soon after a OTA broke the root. If so then why wouldn't a brand new one out of box be able to have bootloader unlocked just as the phones come with the same firmware version and not updated until bought. Just wondering.

Check this here, it should answer your questions.
I am not too sure about the S4.
I recently got a refurbished Note 2 that came with the 4.3 firmware (my original note 2 broke), MK6 booloader. According to this link, If your phone is running the MK6 bootloader, It is not possible AS OF NOW to revert to the previous bootloader MJ4. You can put CWM recovery and custom roms on your 4.3 build but I don't think they are too stable as of now. I have not tried it yet.
I have at&t note 2 and never updated to 4.3 like I said before but when I flashed a 4.3 tw ROM WiFi wouldnt work like you said. Instead of doing the Odin bootloader thing I just flashed the devel kernel and everything went good. WiFi works flawless. Devil kernel works on toichwiz and aosp. My question is would it be better to do that and leave the bootloader alone?

The note 2 I got last Friday is 4.1.2. The only reason I didn't get the note 3 is this whole bootloader crap. T-Mobile is really starting to look good from here

To not confuse. I have had my note 2. Just got my wife the other one. I don't think I am going to update it at all. Just to make sure I rooted hers with framaroot and stopped any ota 4.3 from slipping by.

One last question. Not sure if we already touched this or not. On your at&t 4.3 note 2 can you put a custom recovery cwm?
