Hello folks!
I recently repaired an second hand Verizon Droid Incredible 2. It has Android 2.2.1 running and it is seemingly SIM-unlocked, but not rooted. I use it in Germany, got it from an American friend some years ago. It works reasonable well for calling, WiFi, UMTS etc.
But I can't install Android 4.x respectively CyanogenMod 9 or 10 on it, what I need for a development project!
I tried getting S-Off via revolutionary.io, which appears to be mandatory from what I can see on the following guide:
wiki . cyanogenmod. org / w / Install_CM_for_vivow
The process doesn't work for me. The following is what I get from the Bash command line, while my smartphone is hanging in the FASTBOOT USB bootloader screen:
$ sudo ./revolutionary

Furthermore I read the following guide:
www . androidauthority . com / droid-incredible-2-ics-cyanogenmod-9-cm9-unofficial-69716 /
It recommends rooting the Incredible 2 with ClockworkMod by using the following guide:
theunlockr . com / 2013 / 02 / 20 / how-to-root-the-htc-droid-incredible-2 /
I tried to flash the recovery image to my smartphone by bringing it into the FASTBOOT bootloader and applying the following in the bash terminal:
$ sudo ./fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-vivow.img
< waiting for device >
sending 'recovery' (3722 KB)...
OKAY [ 1.161s]
writing 'recovery'...
(bootloader) signature checking...
FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)

As you can see, this does not work either.
From the first guide above I conclude, that I need Gingerbread running on my smartphone, since the guide explicitly says "0.97.0000 (Gingerbread only!)". The problem is, that I can't upgrade my Froyo 2.2.1 to Gingerbread 2.3. When I try to do so via the menu Settings -> Software Update -> Check from within Android it says: Network problem: network not available. But this is not due to connectivity issues, since everything works without a problem (WiFi, GPRS, GSM, really everything). I think the problem is, that I am not within the Verizon network in the US and my Incredible 2 wants its updates only from within this carrier, right? I know I would have to downgrade HBOOT after an update, but how can I update my Android version???
I really spend several days on this topic, I hope there is somebody out there who can help me. Just drop me some hints or ideas with which I can get into the right direction. Thanks in advance!

Hi.
Thanks to everyone at xda, I've learned a lot. Thanks to those involved with unrevoked, alpharev, cyanogenmod, clockworkmod, rom manager...
I have S-OFF - done with AlphaRev 1.8 on my Desire.
I want to change my splash screen to something other than the AlphaRev "Why So Serious" one.
I've tried flashing lots of different img files that were posted at xda, and I get the same error every time.
I've looked for info and help on the following threads:

I used a different Windows XP SP3 computer with a different method of installing fastboot and a different method of installing the ADB drivers. Soon I will investigate to find out which item made the difference. Went back to the computer that I had trouble with before. Did not change the ADB drivers nor the fastboot install on Win XP PC. And now it flashed the splash screen perfectly with every single img file that I could find. So I don't know why it's working now because I had tried so many times before. The one thing that I know has changed is that the desire (bravo) now has stable cm-7.0.2.1 (with different apps installed also) instead of release candidate cm-7.0.0-RC2 that it had before. I noticed that when I hooked it up again windows saw it as new and installed the drivers again on its own (and not totally successfully either). I had used nirsoft.net USBDeview (freeware) many times when having trouble installing the ADB drivers or other drivers for the Desire. I highly recommend the program. But I'm not sure what made the flashing work in the end...
Sounds like you're sorted now. Cool.

Hello,
I have a phone that is now stuck at white screen with green htc logo after an attempt to downgrade following this guide :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
However i had already downloaded a PC10IMG.zip with this tool :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1521019
I first tried using the tool, but it always failed. It seemed to me the script failed on getting temproot. (I then manually downloaded the PC10IMG.zip in the .bat file just incase it was a problem with the wget it uses or something)
After that i followed the guide instead and gained temproot, changed version and gaining supercid through the goldcard method.
I then tried downgrading using the manual method using the PC10IMG.zip mentioned above (Its alot smaller than the ones mentioned in the guide. I have a suspicion it is for another phone perhaps). Bootloader recognized it and started "upgrade" process as expected. After it worked with that for a while it rebooted and since then I have been stuck on the white/green splash screen on normal boots.
I can still get into Hboot, but I cant do anything there. Nothing seems to work there. Neither volume +/-, trackpad nor powerbutton does anything.
I can also get into fastboot. This seems to work better, but when i try to flash the image then it just gives me :
D:\platform>fastboot-windows flash zip StockRom.zip
sending 'zip' (291447 KB)... FAILED (remote: 02 data length is too large)
HBOOT screen shows me the following:
VISION PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.82.0008
MICROP-0425
RADIO-26.08.04.30_M3
I havent tried altering the contents of my SD card in fear of making things even worse.
Any tips/tricks/hint would be greatly appreciated!
Got some rather excellent help from #g2root to fix this today.
My main problem was that I had flashed the wrong img and that my Golden SD was not working correctly. Got that sorted out by using another SD and made it golden in another device.
Then proceeded to upgrade it to the newest g2 software (since that was what i had tried to do in the first place. Namely using the g2 img in a Desire Z device), downgrade it, rooted it and installed the necessary tools to get Andromadus running
Thanks to pierre_ja, skorgon, Uni_Ced and Catherall for the patience, moral support and excellent help! The amount of handholding from pierre_ja was astonishing

Can i ask where you obtained the G2.img file, I am in a similar situation. Thanks

Not with an HTC Vision, you can't... You need an PC to do this.
That's too bad. The G2 used to easy. Thanks for the reply!
Edit: So that goes for the G2 aswell correct?

This is your problem, adb can't see your phone. Was it up and running when you tried this ? If so it's your adb setup. Have you used adb before on this phone ? See my signature for a link to a guide to setting up adb.

For the G2 there is a new program called mr. root, wich makes everything a bit easier, but you still need an computer to do it. So that's correct indeed.
From memory that 99 error means you used htcdev.
You can find more info on that here

The cmd's seem to be working from the cmd prompt. for example the phone did go into boot loader.
The phone is in a state where it will not boot up. Fails on the htc logo.
However boot loader is not functioning, every time it directs me to clock work orange mod screen. Which does not function either
Same problem!!
Hi, im really new here, and i googled the 'symptoms' of my broken HTC desire Z and this thread came up. My phone is showing exactly the same writting as what you described, but i really really dont know why. i dont know what all these technical terms mean/do but i REALLY miss my phone and want it to work again!! I would really really REALLY appreciate any help anyone could offer me, because the warranty is up so i cant send it back!
Thank you so much!
So to get this straight, you've tried to root your phone and it went wrong. If so, can you still get into your recovery?
-Turn off phone, hold down the power and volume up button. Then ou should get your bootloader. Once that's loaded slelect recovery with your volume buttons and confirm (press "enter") by pressing your powerbutton. Then your phone should restart in recovery. If you haven't changed your recovery image, you should be able to get the stock ROM running again.-
I am having a problem, I go to the HTC Dev site, tells me I need to download a new rom, but when I download the Virgin Mobile rom, it restart the phone then it gives me an error that I have the wrong version.
I dont understand though, the phone says Virgin Mobile. Can anyone help me?
I found these steps. I have problems on number 7, which says *
"Scroll down, choose your phone version, download RUU"
When I download Virgin Mobile, it goes through its process, reboots the phone, you see the HTC logo, then the program errors out saying I have the wrong rom. How can I have the wrong rom? I have a Virgin Mobile Wildfire S, and that is what I downloaded. Any ideas?
STEP 1 - Update HBOOT to support generating device tokens
* Go to http://htcdev.com/
* Click "unlock bootloader" and then "get started"
* On the right, chose HTC Wildfire S from the dropdown
* Click begin unlock bootloader
* Login, or register first, then login
* Confirm the 2 nasty boxes and agree all stuff
* Scroll down, choose your phone version, download RUU
* Run RUU.exe and flash new HBOOT
* Click proceed
* Remove battery, re-insert, boot into bootloader (Power + Vol-)
* Click proceed
* get those 3 files: adb.exe, AdbWinApi.dll, fastboot.exe, read how to get them if you do not have them
* open a terminal as it is done on the site
* enter the command: fastboot oem get_identifier_token
* Copy the identifier token and
* paste it at the bottom of the page
* submit
I believe I figured it out, I found a thread somewhere else that had the answer. I'll try it tomorrow though, I am beat spent 2 hours on this. Here is the quote though for the fix
"4: You will find 2 zip folders named rom_01 and rom_02, copy these 2 zips to your desktop
5: Now change the name of rom_01 (im not 100% sure if its 01 or 02 that you need to do first, I cant remember) to PG76IMG and copy it over to a microSD, insert into your phone and boot into HBoot, it will go through the normal process of detecting and then opening the zip and will ask you if you wish to update the radio to v2 (it should only ask to update the radio, because you need to do it first before you use the second file which asks to update both the radio and hboot) allow to do so and it will do its thing and when completed ask to reboot."
I am not sure where to begin. I have been all over this forum and another trying to find the answer.

Now that you're unlocked, try using the same all in one tool to ROOT the phone. Then flash CWM, because you need root for CWM. I suggest using rezo609's All-In-One Utility if that's not what you are already using.
There's no need of 1.08.0099 or 1.09.0099 because the one you have is the latest UNLOCKABLE bootloader.
And since you have an A510c, why don't you go ahead and S-OFF it? It's really simple. You'll find a guide in the index in the general section.
Good luck!

That's quite strange.
Okay, considering you have adb installed, pit the adb files in a folder called android.
Put it in any drive you want. Put the cwm img in the same folder.
Name the image file as recovery.img
Suppose you have the folder on c drive, type this :
cd c:\android
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Do you have the root.zip?
Cwm recovery should boot. Then flash the root.zip.
Tell me if it doesn't work.

I managed to solve my problem thanks to SomeDudeOnTheNet. <--Awesome guy!
Now that I have S-Off and have CWM, I am trying to install a rom. I was recommended HenseMod. My issue at the momment is that it rebooted once on me clearing/wiping the phone, and rebooted again on me while trying to install a rom and another time it froze. Any ideas?
Working on one of these right now... currently have unlocked and S-Off, just flashed the recovery.img successfully, can get into the first screen of clockwork, but it freezes either as soon as I hit the button or on a white HTC screen.
once I got the zip install option to work, and installed the root.zip, but it just froze and rebooted shortly after.
I'm thinking that without su, the recovery can't push the root.zip or any other rom zips... so I'm still looking for a way to get root.
This is a tough nut!

Symptoms: Wi-fi stopped working (can't be turned on - error ) and all the icons and UI elements are filckering at times.
"Factory Reset" didn't work...
Had the idea to re-install the stock rom but didn't know how and couldn't find the right one on androidruu.com
Now considering a CM mod or something better if you can recommend for htc WFS if a stock can't be found.
While trying the "HTC Easy Unlock Bootloader Tool" (tried to install CM 10.1 for htc WFS) another problem occurred. When I came to the part when it puts the phone in HBOOT and I press any key ... in the cmd like "HTC Easy Unlock Bootloader Tool" it says:
Obtaining Unlock Token
... INFO[ERR] Command error !!!
OKAY [ 0.007s]
finished. total time: 0.008s
Now copy the identifier token as shown here (use the right button of the mouse to choose mark and then press right button again to select) then paste the token at the botton of the page and submit. Opening HTVDEV site
Press any key to continue . . .
What to do people ? Help if you can. :crying:
Doesn't anyone know anything about this???
By googling, have found out that hboot 0.90 may not support "fastboot oem get_identifier_token" command
which is only logical after receiving "command error" in return.
So does anyone know how to update HBOOT from 0.90 to 1.09 ???? I tried from RUUs and PGs with no success.
Tried these (Phone is Next G, Telestra):
From Win7
1. RUU_Marvel_HTC_Europe_1.33.401.2_Radio_47.10.35.3029H_7.46.35.08_release_185724_signed
2. PG7612000_Marvel_hboot_1.09.0099_1.52.841.1_1.52.841.2_0214 (i.imgur.com/7NqUW2f.jpg)
nothing worked....
Extracted rom.zip and tried from sdcard:
1. This one has the same HBOOT version so nothing happened
2. This one couldn't do it because of image version difference
(It has 2 rom.zip files, rom_01.zip and rom_02.zip. Tried with renaming rom_02.zip to PG76IMG.zip because it contains newer ver. of HBOOT.)
still... nothing happened...
HELP, getting desperate here
Been trying for 8 hours now non-stop to try get root access.
I tried revolutionary.io but the website is doing a bad gateway for me so I can't get the beta key at all, I managed to get the zip from google cache but the script for beta keys is failing me.
bravo pvt4 s-on
hboot 1.02.0001 radio 5.17.05.23
I tried Alpha revision? It said something about not detecting or being too new...
Tried unrevoked 3, but said firmware too new.
Tried htcdev.com, and none of the hboots work at all for me that I tried. The fastboot oem get_identifier_token
gives the error
(bootloader) [ERR] Command error !!!
OKAY [ 0.008s]
finished. total time: 0.010s
Software number 3.14.405.1
Build 3.14.405.1 CL96875 release keys
Android 2.33, kernel version 2.6.35.10
The htcdev tool basically tells me to wait for them to get a new hboot, and I can't even get access to the token to get the magic key to unlock this thing. My i5500 was extremely easy to get root on compared to this, it's like this phone is too far updated and none of the many ways to root it seem to work. Any help would be appreciated!!
Finally got revolutionary.io to work. Was able to get 4ext recovery on and installed Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip that I found on google to work. Using Carbon Rom now Can't believe the one tool I needed wasn't available and I wasted 8 hours on other stuff!
