I'm using the cyanogenmod on my HTC Desire 816 and it's decent as of now. One thing I really hated and that bothered me was the emojis. I figured out a way to input the iPhone emojis so I could use them and see them when others use emojis (it was a certain font I had to use and replace). It was working fine until one day I randomly get some error while using my phone but idk what it said because of how fast I exited out of it. Looked like a normal error for when a app randomly crashes. But since then, I haven't been able to see my emojis at all. They work perfect still and I still see them perfect when others use them and when I select them but I have no clue what emojis I choose because all of them show up as boxes with a X in it. I tried to restore the emojis with the ones that came with the ROM but same problem, they work fine, I just can't see what I'm choosing. Any ideas on what the problem is and how I can fix it ?

hey everyone,
so this is actually for my girlfriends g2 and i haven't seen it in person yet, i'll see it tonight, but i figured i'd throw some feelers out there...
her g2, whenever she goes into the text messaging app, the whole screen except the top 1/4 (so she can see the status bar, the create new message, and the most recent text conversation). she's NOT rooted, totally stock and never upgraded to gingerbread. so the notification that she should upgrade has been popping up so she finally went ahead and let it upgrade today while she was at work and it seemed to all go fine she says but now that its rebooted and upgraded, the text message app is still exactly the same issue.
like i said i haven't seen it myself. any ideas? first things first is i was probably going to go in and force close the app. if that doesn't help i'm going to start clearing out her texts (who knows when the last time she cleared them out was). after that... not sure. any other ideas?
thanks!
Dave
This seems to be a common problem. I googled it and found others with that same problem. Didn't see any fixes, though. Try a third party texting app. Otherwise you may need to replace the screen. Could try rooting and flashing a custom rom as well.

I have two Major problem using after market ROM's
First -
My keyboard and haptic buttons do not work a lot of the time. Often they will work for the first boot only after a clean install.
Does anyone have a quick fix for this? One that is not a fresh wipe (I have done this a lot)
Second -
My contacts are weirded up. It seems I've super synced with my GMail and I am getting loads of random number (A lot of them from abroad). Also the number I did have (Friends, Family etc) have now disappeared.
I cannot call my girlfriend but I can call a Kebab House in New Zeland!
Weird stuff going on. Is this ROM specific? I'm using Andromadus but this has been happening since A13 and now Beta1
More then likley rom specific, or a bad flash

Looks like specific ROM issue. I never experienced this.

Really strange.
I would say ROM Specific but i've tried several Andromadus versions and never had that kind of issue.
What surprises me most is your google sync problem. I've installed many different ROMs many times and never had a single problem with numbers disapearring or unknown numbers appearing.
I think that you won't have any other choice than installing an other ROM and see what happens.
Solved the Contact Issue
Thanks for the advice. It turns out I sold a spare handset and stupidly left my GMail logged in. He then overwrote his contacts from his SIM to my GMail. At least I think this is what happened.
I just went to Gmail and reset my contacts by Two Weeks and it worked a treat,
Still having the Keyboard Issues with Andromadus but I just bought a Touchpad so that is keeping me busy now...
Exactly as the title suggests.. they had worked fine for a long time, then all of a sudden one day they stopped. Now when I send an emoji to an iphone user whether form the apps themselves (with respective plugins installed) or from the "emoji keyboard" app, they receive them fine and I can see the emoji in my conversation, but when they send one back all i see is either boxes or diamonds with question marks in them. Also, when someone sends me something like (^-^) it just leaves a blank space in the text. I don't know what the issue is, it doesn't seem to be ROM related as it just happened one day and I've updated the ROM since then, but I could try another ROM just to make sure.
My question is, has anyone else had this issue? Does anyone know how I might fix it?
I'm on the "Mother of all ROMs" with Ktoonsez kernel
Anybody? Self-bump... Still trying to fix this little issue
Hi,
Did you install any new updates or make any software changes, etc. before this happened? Because I know I have to fix my emojis everytime I flash a new 4.2.2 ROM. I sat here for 10 minutes trying to find the setting, but I can't remember it right now. The one I always have to mess with is not the enable emoji support one, but rather a setting SOMEWHERE on the phone that says "enable full unicode support" or something like that. I suggest you try to hunt it down since I can't find it myself :silly:
Also, this is my first post on xda. been lurking for a long time though
Listen up @Merckle @Amizzly @Branford
Uninstall Google Voice, go to google dot com voice, remove your sprint account. I believe you will find your emojis to be quite operational.
Additional steps if that doesn't work
Reboot to recovery, wipe cache, dalvik, and fix permissions. Reboot.
My One V is rooted but running the standard firmware. Problem is the default HTC text / SMS app. It often refuses to fully open (stays half open on white screen) or takes a minute or two to fully open. In addition "unread sms" notifications are not correctly update (I open a message but it still stays 'unread').
I have deleted all but a hundred or so messages in case there were too many.
I have removed all non-stock launchers and the like.
Situation improves after a reboot but only for one or two uses then the SMS app is back to misbehaving.
Phone is fully up to date apart from last minor (22mb) OTA update - that will not install for some reason.
Any suggestions anyone? I can live with everything else on the phone but this fault is really annoying.
Thanks in advance...
I suggest you back up everything and do a factory reset that should help

Thanks for the suggestion. I want to avoid that hassle if I can.
I am trying now the "Chomp SMS" app instead of the normal one. No lag or hangs so far
Some say it's that one the best: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jb.gosms&feature=search_result&hl=en
Thanks, I might try it if the Chomp one does not work out. I tried the Go Launcher and some other of their apps before but was not too impressed. Not too fast, left many folders on the phone when un-installed etc.
So far the Chomp SMS app works fast and is easy to customize. It does show ads however unless I pay.
I just installed the new Color Os Rom for the one x. Everything works fine except whenever i send or receive a message through whatsapp it crashes and the service restarts. Does anyone know what i can do to fix this.

I donnow if u are the only one facing this problem or if it is a ROM-Fault, but did u follow the clean procedure of flashing COLOR OS?
Yup. Did a clean flash of the rom. No issue with any other apps.

same problem here..tried with whatsapp and whatsapp+ and everytime you send a message it's crashing.
Did u try to mod whatsapp and stop phone identity permission?
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Nope didn't try to mod it and actually don't know which part needs to be modded.
Would really like to use this ROM but without whatsapp it's quite useless.
I think a few people flashed this ROM so can anyone test if they can get whatsapp to work?
Don't know if it's a common error or something else went wrong on my side but would be helpful to know if anyone besides me and the OP can get it to work
you are not alone
my whatsapp restarts anytime i click send after typing my message. Also, it doesnt crash when i open the app and type nothing but crashes immediately i leave the app. i dont want to change the OS cos am loving it. any solutions?
