It seems like the GPS doesn't work on custom roms is there any way to fix this?

Is there any way to change the proximity settings in any of the customs ROMs?

Yes i know but it does not work with Gingerbread ROMs 2.3.3
So you have tried it? Just wanted to check as there are only some reports that it isn't working. There aren't any other ways to do it afaik. So what kind of problem do you have with your proximity sensor?
P.S. It's better to mention all the details in the OP (what rom you have, what you've tried so far etc etc). Makes finding a solution much easier...
Yes i've tried it, it errors out with loads of errors, worked great with Froyo by the way...
Hi all. The custom ROMs, either ICS or JB just lag or fail one way or another. No dis to them, just need something that is more stable.
I was curious if anyone has figured out how to make Wifi Tether work with the stock ROM? Either with Apps or some other way require rooting.
Thanks in advance!
First let me get this out there that yes I searched the forums and did find information on how some people were getting GPS issues and some recommended solutions/fixes from other users. However I think my issue is somewhat different and I am trying to get an understanding of it. (please if you do see that a similar issue has posted elsewhere that I missed, I apologize in advance and ask you to point me to that thread).
Currently I am on JellyBean747 by (Drewgaren) ROM based on Sprint leaked JB (L710VPBLJ7). This is the only ROM where I get my GPS working. I have tried swapping ROMs to other leaks, Official releases, AOKP, CM10 with no luck. Tried changing the kernels with Ktoonsez's Stock kernel but still no luck.
I have a nandroid backup of stock+root ROM which I used to get root. Even restoring to that ROM doesn't fix the GPS.
I have also tried turning GPS on before opening maps, used GPS test app and another GPS fix app to setup servers to North America etc. Still no luck on other roms. GPS doesn't even start.
JellyBean747 by (Drewgaren) is the only ROM where I get the GPS working properly (or should I say normally?).
Does anyone have any idea why is that? and what is different in Sprint based rom that might be interfering with GPS files/libs etc.
Any suggestions, pointers, comments would be appreciated. Thanks.
gps fix
go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1995347
follow all of the steps exactly.. gps now works on all roms. if you have more problems.. reffer back to here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1995347 worked for me :good:
I tried those steps on AOKP with no luck. Since you are suggesting to try it again, I will but this time on LK3 based ROM to see if it works. Can you please share which ROM you were using and having problem with GPS and then were able to fix the GPS using these steps? Thanks for help.
I went back to stock and no GPS. Followed all steps with no luck. Like i said, my hardware is working fine but there is something in Drewgarens rom that is causing GPS to not work with any other roms. Please suggest another tip. Currently i am on AOKP and GPS is gone.
If you are having issues with GPS on AOSP based ROMS all you need to do is:
*flash a stock ROM (stock ROM is one based on the LG ROM that came with the phone I recommend this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/development/rom-stock-root-deodex-t2932683 )
*get a gps lock
*then flash or restore whatever AOSP based ROM you like.
GPS will now be working for you.
This has been a fix for GPS on AOSP based roms for years and I had to recently use it myself as I was getting no GPS on all AOSP based ROMS.
Also make sure that GPS isn't actually broken in the AOSP based ROM you are flashing because if GPS is broken in the ROM then obviously this isn't going to fix it. This fix is for people having GPS issues on ROMs that have working GPS which is currently all KK and LP AOSP based ROMs we have for the vs985. Hope this helps someone.
bump. Still seeing people posting about no gps on AOSP roms so bumping this in hopes that it gets seen more often.
Interesting. Just curious here: If I "Restore" a 4.4.4 ROM, get the lock, then Restore back my current AOSP Lollipop-based ROM, will that work? As in, is the GPS lock sequence stored in the GPS hardware flash or something?

Honestly I don't know why this fixes GPS I just know it does. Like I said in the OP this has been a fix for GPS on AOSP based ROMS for years as I learned this trick back a couple years ago on my LG Spectrum. I was one not getting GPS on any AOSP based roms but noticed most weren't having issues with it so I remembered this fix and tried it on my phone and I haven't had GPS issues since. Once you do this you should no longer need to again no matter how many roms you flash; just be sure to always get a lock on each ROM you flash before flashing a new one as that may cause the issue to comeback.
Bumping again because people are still constantly posting about gps being broken on AOSP based ROMS and don't know how to research the forums for solutions to their issues but would rather clutter threads with the same questions over and over and over.
Help
So does "get a gps lock just mean open up maps and get it to lock onto a gps signal?
Anyone experiencing GPS issues with this phone? if yes, is there a way to minimize this issue? Thanks!
Probabilly is a problem with your rom, a rom beta or dev
You need to install another rom official without bugs or the based stock rom
Be careful
Yes, GPS on my G3 is abysmal. It constantly looses signal in wide open spaces and I have no idea why. No rom has fixed it at all.
