I just bought a new epic and received it in the mail. I want to root it because ive rooted every other phone ive owned. I see something that sprint just came out with new update yesterday or the day before. Whats the best way to root it?. Should i activate it first then root or root before i activate?
If it were me I'd activate, update profile and prl then root and rom it...
Enjoy...
There is a How to that you can use to flash the rooted version of the update.
I don't think it matters if you activate.
Why not activate it and start enjoying the phone while you figure it out?
thanks guys whats the easiest way to root?

The new root is much better as it doesnt trigger the yellow triangle....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728
You dont have to download additional apps just the root tool. It will root your current setup so nothing really changes besides adding root. Just select option a then option c and your done.

If you take your time and read properly, the answer is so close it can bite. The link is in the first post where download the file!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34345261&postcount=1
This way you wont have to look.
I don't mean to be snark but there are too many questions from people who don't look properly and rather someone else do the work for them!
thanks

hey guys what happen to the 2nd screen if you custom rom it?
Hey guys i achieved temporary root on my K500H with Kingroot pc and already debloated it, but only one time when i restarted the phone again it was ok but not rooted anymore. well something is better than nothing.
get kingroot from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/one-click-root-tool-android-2-x-5-0-t3107461
I recommend u to do it on pc first (turn off antivirus), cause if you do it with the android app itself and u fail maybe u will be not able to root again.
If you do this, root and do all things u want, and before u reboot the phone unroot and uninstall kingroot (from the app).
I wish to say that I am not an expert. I read that oneclickroot can root the LG x K500I phone, I have a K500N and the same software can't root my device. Does anyone know the reason why software doesn't work? or a workaround to make it works?
Thanks in advance

I tried with both...the same result...nothing!
The bootloader is still locked, maybe can it be the reason?

Yea don't confuse root and unlocked bootloader, you can achieve root without having bootloader unlocked, but it will be temporary.

Hi Mont,
I used kingroot, as you suggested, but it does not work
The app fails to root, while if I use the pc software a error occurs "network connection failed".

Hi, check on youtube your error, thats a common issue.
I have a MetroPCS LG K-10 lgms428. That phone comes with the OEM unlock under the development section in the menu. I know how to eat an unlock it and send a command through fastboot. This will unlock the bootloader after I do that would it be possible for me to flash a version of cdb cwm or TWRP for a recovery and then rooted with SuperSU? If anyone has any links or info on this I would really appreciate it thank you

Its a good idea, I found link's for twrp for ms420 devices (mtk) but I was wondering if a twrp can be ported to work on ms428 (lz4)
No sure, don't really know much about porting.
I'm also working off of the friends laptop still trying to install Android SDK I'm just too unlock the bootloader. The laptop Works horribly so probably won't even have the bootloader unlocked till tomorrow.
Once that's done though willing to try anything to get root. I've been going to the forum, many people want root.

How do you unlock the bootloader just by "fastboot oem unlock"? It doesn't work. There are root methods already present for the devices.

No root at all I'm still frustrated
But I was wondering there's a system-less root by chainfire
There's a way to flash it via adb or fastboot?

How do we use the TWRP recovery file ? Do I flash it over with ADB or one of the LG programs? I have the phone working with ADB.

I have to install it via pc because somehow my ota update dosent work in my phone
couldn't install it due slow internet connection I will inform it by tomorrow
I was wondering that some apps like force doze can modify system using adb interface by granting the shell command to the package and giving permission to use "android.permission.DUMP" and work like a charm on my lg k10 (ms428)
I had an idea if adding this command manually using the same method to the kingroot package will root my device properly without any risk off hardbrick?

You guys unlocked Bootloader? Without unlocking bootloader the TWRP wont work.
I have unlocked bootloader on metropcs k10, qualcomm variant. Used minimal adb and fastboot on a laptop with win 7. In windows, nothing worked until i used master admin privilege. Open command prompt, type " net user administrator /active:yes " and restart your computer. As soon as it booted up it found my device and installed drivers. Bootloader unlocked right away. Now i want to install twrp. Would flashing through adb and fastboot be the best way??

Hey Nexus family I'm new here. I've tried to follow the directions in dev section but can't seem to get this thing cracked open. Command shell noon. So is there a simpler version to achieve bootloader and root? Thanks
Easy and also best way (since you get to know al the necessary steps) is to follow this guide:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/general/guides-how-to-guides-beginners-t3206930
Agree with @peltus. It's worth to learn input via command line. Only 1 annotation: Win10 didn't connect by fastboot, so I took a Linux-Pc.
you can also use Nexus Root Toolkit
http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/
Rootkit is just not recommended: may work, but you find threads here about issues.
Toolkits may work fine but if you run into problems you may need to fastboot anyway to fix things. So why not learn exactly what you need to do in the first place?
On another note I do fastboot everything on Windows 10 from a USB 3.0 port. You just need the correct drivers or revert to a USB 2.0 port maybe.

Command shell. Nexus root toolkit has come a long ways but damn near everything it does could be one simple command and a lot less reboots. Just remember the first time you unlock your bootloader you'll wipe your data and i could never get helium working right on 7. Get lastpass, let it reset you, root away. On Nexus devices it literally could not get any easier. (For us--thanks devs!)
