several months ago I have unlocked my phone, reset it to factory several times and in general just tried out installing custom recoveries to ultimately install a custom rom.
I eventually stopped before flashing a custom rom.
A few days ago I started really trying again and I have noticed that i can not install any custom roms without updating my firmware first.
My current version is 1.41.5 and i run android 4.4.2, way too outdated to do anything.
The real problem is that even relocking the bootloader, resetting to factory settings and trying to manually flash a firmware update it will not work.
I am stuck. There is no stock rom available for my third party german carrier anywhere on the internet. (Mobilcom Debitel)
It appears it is impossible to get back the bloatware that came with the phone which is required to update, right?
I don't know how to proceed at this point.
Is there any thing I can do?
Would going s-off help?
I would be very appreciative of any help you guys can give me.
I read in the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
Q : Can i apply an official HTC OTA on my stock rooted rom?
A : Yes but the system apps (carrier branded apps included) has to be 100% intact.
There seems to be no way to get the carrier brand apps for me. Is there a different way?
Edit: If I achieve s-off, would that be a way around my issue?
With your current knowledge base S-OFF would surely lead to a brick. I would wait on that. You need to return to stock recovery, take your carriers OTA's of which there will be at least three or four, then you will be able to install any current ROM. Search return to stock thread for a 1.54.xxx recovery for your CID.

First of all, delete the IMEI from your post. Never put that on a public forum.
Yes, S-Off would be a way, but the safest would be to run an RUU to update. Hook your phone up to your PC, and get into fastboot.
Download the 4.16.401.10 WWE RUU from here.
When the download if finished, double click it, and follow the prompts.
When it's finished, turn on your phone, go through the setup, and enjoy Lollipop.
Make sure to back up anything that is important to you, because this will wipe your phone.
Thank you for the replies, I will report on my success once I have tried what you have proposed, thanks!

Hello all,
So here's why I'm posting:
I'm having an issue with my T-Mobile HTC One M8 phone. The phone was working great until I tried to install a new third-party TWRP. I don't know if it was miscommunication or what, but in the process of installing it (https://www.dropbox.com/s/ocvavpttfo...ersion_Fix.img), the phone started having issues.
The initial issue was that the phone would get stuck during boot up. The phone was at the current 2.22 build # but in order to make it at least usable again, I flashed an RUU (1.57 build #) and that seemed to fix everything. But then when I went back from stock recovery to my original TWRP, and flashed a recent backup, the phone froze again during boot up. This process worked many times and as recently as yesterday, but now since trying to install that third-party TWRP, it doesn't. I've tried various things but nothing is working. I know that since I can still reach HBOOT and TWRP that there is hope, but I'm at my wits end as to what to do.
I should also mention that I was using the ViperOne M8 ROM (2.1.0). My phone is unlocked/rooted & S-OFF. There were no issues with it again until I tried to install that new TWRP.
I really love my phone, and hope someone on here can help me. After re-RUUing my phone, I'm going to leave it at 1.57 build # and stock recovery (1.12 #) (and USB Debugging on) until I hear from someone. Basically, I just want my phone to be normal again so I can upgrade back to build # 2.22, flash my custom TWRP recovery, and then flash my most recent backup which included the most recent ViperOne M8 update.

Thank You,

Prologue:
So there I was, caressing my shiny and smooth M8.
At the beginning of the year I S-Offed, and added DigitalHigh's awesome Beyond Stock...
Later on, I used a standard RUU GPE Rom.
After repeated Wi-Fi password amnesia, I wanted Beyond Stock Back.
Flashing "GPE_5.1_M8_DH_080215.zip" gives me an "Error 7" even with repeated wipes... hehe... wipes
Searching didn't give me a coherent answer.
So I though, let's update TWRP... and...
Now
The thing's only usable in Bootloader.
If I go to recovery or ANYTHING, the "Google" logo stares at me in disgust.
Odd detail: I'm using fastboot and when it's stuck on the "Google" logo, entering "adb devices" detects the phone in recovery mode.
I flashed TWRP 2.8.7.0, but all I see is the "Google" logo. (I can still feel vibrations on the screen as if I'm hitting a menu button)
I also tried to "fastboot -w" and it gave me the "remote: not allowed" result.
Actually, I tried to fastboot a lot of things and the result came the same.
Anyways, I'll give a detailed log as soon as I remember how, but the reason I post this is 'cause searching for this doesn't give an understandable or reliable result.
Thanks

Give the output of :
Fastboot getvar all
But delete the serial and imei before posting ! If you have an old bootloader you have to use the 2.7 series of TWRP. if you have the latest bootloader (3.18-3.19) you have to use 2.8 series of TWRP !
OOOOOOOOOHHHH, Where I get new M8 bootloader?
Hold Up, going to work, will post 'getvar' later today.
It's there, brah.
Take a look if you can.
It's an AT&T device, you are using it with AT&T ? And you fully converted it from sense to GPE ? You could also :
1: run the GPE ruu again. It will get you on GPE stock again and since you are s-off that should not be a problem of any kind.
2: convert back to sense (original AT&T with software number x.xx.502.x)
i am not sure if the AT&T RUU will cover the "back to sense conversion" so this might be interesting too as it involves the standalone flashing of the firmware first (you need a AT&T firmware, NOT the one posted there !!!)
here is more conversion info :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2733523
and here you can get firmwares : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
if you want number 2 here is more info with a download link to the latest android L RUU : http://www.theandroidsoul.com/download-att-htc-one-m8-lollipop-ruu-4-28-502-1-75822/

Hi,,
I have managed to remove my OS, without making a backup. All i have running is TWRP. Was going to install CM12.1, but didnt update the M8 to the latest software that contains relevant bootloader. From here it went downhill - fast.
Ended up with no OS, no backkups, and no ability to flash other ROMS i think.
If someone could give me a few ideas, i would really appreciate it.

Your case is different and you should start your own thread but there are many same case as yours.
Here is one and the solution is in there.. run RUU - http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/os-sos-t3192177
Anything you're not sure, ask there. Don't hijack this thread.
UPDATE: Thanks to ckpv5 and the links that were provided i was able to complete the reinstall - thank you so much!!
Opps - sorry - didnt mean to offend!
Will take a look.
Thanks
Mike
The RUU got me an OS and, right now, that is all I need.
Thank you!!
I changed the screen on my HTC One M8 and now the phone gets stuck on the HTC One splash screen. Ive treble checked all connections and for damage and cant see anything. I tried Factory reset, but its just gets stuck at Andriod is starting after updating all the apps. My only option seems to be install ruu? Could someone tell me which ruu I should use please?

We need RUU, which i couldnt find, you dont need to worry about Firmware, we just have to find RUU for Vodafone UK, even if it's 5.0.2, or 4.4.4, don't care, cause we can use OTA to update if the phone is 100% stock.
this one any good no?
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934518148
It's 401 for European unlocked, we need vodafone uk161
if I unlock the bootloader, do I still need to have usb debugging enabled in the settings before I can install twrp and an nandriod backup?
i dont think so, u can check forums noob friendly guides
Hi,
Gods and gurus of flashing I need your help on getting my M8 on T-MOB101 back to life. I've been trying update it to marshmallow and (long story short) I'm currently looking at empty flash wit only access to fastboot and ability to install/use TWRP.
Can someone supply me with a source of an RUU that will bring me back to stock? Sadly I'm S-ON with no access to the system obv.
Is there any other way to get it back to life?
Please help

Best help is self help I guess - I used this thread with great success: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
Thanks
So I recently went back to stock so that I could update to MM via t-mobile OTA (I am S-ON as well). So what I did was to first find a stock version of the ROM and recovery I was running when I loaded TWRP onto it, this is key.
Because custom roms don't update firmware you need to go back to a un-rooted stock ROM. Once you find it, you also need to match the recovery to the firmware to the ROM. All 3 must match or it won't work.
So I installed the ROM and rebooted to fastboot (note: do not install su), and then I installed the stock recovery via fastboot. Booted up and did a basic setup of the phone (updating software etc), and then once it was done I did the OTA and prayed. Because of my lack on knowledge it took me a couple a tries, mainly because the recovery I first installed was 1 version newer than what the ROM or firmware was.
Once done, I had to dev-unlock again. I now keep a copy for myself of the original recovery and initial stock backup.
Hope this helps

I bought my phone from a Canadian provider known as Wind Mobile (now rebranded as Freedom Mobile). As you can see there's no firmware listed, and the bootloader is a strange 3.19.0.0000 which I can't seem to find anything on. The lack of firmware listing seems to be a common problem, but it leaves me with a few blanks that leave me unsure on how to proceed.
I've found threads that have RUUs for the same CID & MID, but never for the same bootloader version. I'm not really too sure how to proceed from here as I can't seem to find stock files anywhere for my provider. I'm currently using CRDroid 7.1.1.
I'd like to go back to as stock as possible and receive OTA updates. Can anyone give me some advice on what to use? I've been searching for a few hours now and can't seem to find anything for my specific phone. The one thing I did find was a European based RUU which would probably screw up my radios as I'm located in Canada.
Thank you.
Go to my backup thread linked in my signature and restore stock 6.13.1500.7 backup.
If you want the firmware to be shown on bootloader then flash fw_6.13.1500.7 firmware
How-to is explained there.
First thing .. use correct TWRP version 3.0.x not your current one which I believe is 2.7.x
