Help with flashing custom ROM - T-Mobile LG G3

I just rooted my D851 on 5.0.1 and now I want to flash a ROM. Can I get help or a link on flashing a custom recovery and ROM. And what ROM is in your opinion the best?

Perfect, thank you! I have everything installed already. Is there anything I should download or is the ROM itself enough?

If you want google apps....you'll need a set of gapps....other than that, I believe the last build (Illusion is no longer being supported, Dev moved on to AOSIP for the Nexus line) comes with a launcher, but just in case I would flash one you like (you'll have the opportunity to try the ROMs launcher if I am correct...sorry...it's been a while) - NOTE: certain gapps packages come with GNL, so if you just flash that particular gapps pack, you should be G2G
Let me know if you have any other questions. Illusion is by far the fastest, most fluid, stable ROM available for the d851.

[Q] Questions regarding using custom ROM's

Hi all,
I'm fairly new to all of this. Have been on XDA before, but that was a while ago.
I don't like my standard Desire HD with 2.3.5 Android anymore. And there is no update for this.
So I thought I'd look here for a custom ROM which could be nice.
However, I've been told that a custom ROM has it's downsides. But before I just blindly believe those claims, I'd like to ask you guys to tell me what the truth is.
1. I've been told that there is no custom ROM which gives you ALL and every function. You always either loose the use of the camera, or the speaker doesn't work.
2. I've also been told that you cannot go on Google Play store when using a custom ROM.
3. They said that you cannot go back to the original HTC Android after rooting and using a custom ROM.
4. In most cases, a custom ROM will improve performance (compared to the stock HTC ROM).
5. And finally: they claim that when using a custom ROM, certain apps or games won't work.
I've got no clue about these things really, but I'm am kinda interested in the whole concept of rooting. I'm good with computers and learn fast, so I do think I can learn how to do this (eventually ).
Thanks.
1. False. At the very least, stock rooted ROMs like Android Revolution HD has everything working. For other ROMs, it depends.
2. False. Flash gapps if using an AOSP-based ROM and Play Store will show up. It comes with Sense ROMs.
3. To some extent, true. If you unlock the bootloader, HTC will know, even if you relock. And if there is no RUU for your original ROM you can't revert to your exact original ROM.
4. True. Depends on ROM optimizations.
5. False. See #1.
Great, thanks for the reply.
Seems for me that if I wanna use a custom ROM, I just need to find a custom ROM that will allow me to use Google Play Store.
Just wondering: what does RUU mean?

Any custom ROM will let you use the Play Store. If one doesn't include it preinstalled, it means that it's AOSP based and you just need to flash gapps. The OP of most ROM threads will have a link to the recommended version. A RUU is a region-specific executable distributed by HTC that installs and/or updates the stock ROM, bootloader, radio, and recovery.
Well, then it seems like I just have to learn what AOSP and Flash Gapps means .
Google is my friend.

GAPPS is Google APPS. Some roms come with all the google apps bundled some dont. The ones that dont you will need to flash the Gapps.zip file straight after flashing the rom.zip file.
Start with Android Revolution v6. Its all the same as you have got now, everything works. You can try v7 which is just a sense upgrade to sense 3.5. Both have gapps included.
If you want to try something new then give jellytime r10 or unofficial CM10.1. Both need gapps downloading seperatly and is linked to in the 1st post of each thread.
Many more roms available, happy flashing
Edit: neither of the last 2 are sense roms.
Thanks for the explanation and the tips!
Am I allowed to either open a new topic where I can ask which ROM is best suited for me, OR should/can I do that in this topic?
I've been browsing the topics in the development sub-forum, and most off them look great and sound great. Just not really sure if I should look for certain things.

Topics like that aren't allowed by forum rules. The usual advice is to try them for yourself.

as far as i know, skype is compatible with every rom, custom or kitchen...anyway, i suggest you to install 2 specifics roms, depends of what do you need:
1) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2482038 if you want to keep updated with the last versions of android (kit kat isn't so stable, nowdays). This is based on android 4.3.1, it's for daily usage, stable, smooth and very good battery drain. Anyway it's not a finished version, so it will be need for updates sometimes (p.s. i have this rom with skype perfectly working)
2) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1990795 if you want a complete rom, with no bugs and completely updated, when you flash it that's it, no updates more. This too is stable, smooth and has a very good battery drain, the only difference with the previous rom that i said is that it's based on android 4.1.2 and it need no more updates. (p.p.s before of the 4.3.1, i had this rom, and skype was working as well as on the 4.3.1)
so choose one and enjoy your galaxy wonder

I've used almost all custom roms and with all of them skype crashed when I leave it (not close it). Now I'm using EHNDROIX III because some people said that it's one of the most stable (and REMICS too), but it's slow.
I'll follow your advice, thanks! If I have any problem, I'll post it here.

Go through the custom ROM's, check out screenshots, features and bugs. Read the instructions, and search!! Follow this and then if You have any problem, ask it here. Kindly do not expect someone to spoon feed You.
As for MIUI, I don't think it has been updated lately(somebody correct Me if I'm wrong). You can also go for Existenz or Honami Style.
Next time mention what is Your current state, like if You are rooted, bootloader unlocked, which ROM You are on currently, recovery is intalled or not etc.

[Q] ROM/KERNEL recommendations

I apologize in advance if I am asking a dumb question. This is my first time rooting and installing a custom rom to my Note 8. I tried looking at various custom roms and kernels that are available but all the lists of features are so daunting to me and I can't figure out which ones are what I'm looking for.
I'm not looking for heavy customization. What I really want to do is delete bloatware, use air command, and have lockscreen and notification customizations. Can anyone help me and recommend me the best custom rom/kernel that will let me have these options?
I think you should go with Civato Custom ROM, it's the most popular one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2759863
Kernel:

Thanks for you reply. I'm a little confused why one link offers a rom and kernel and the other link is just a kernal. Is there a difference between the two kernels?
Also, if I download one of the above, do I need to install this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2794785 if I want to use Air Command?

If you install the ROM it includes that kernel but a newer version may be available to flash after your first boot of the ROM.
The AirCommand feature can be installed using an option in the Aroma installer for the ROM but it needs to be run separately from the ROM/kernel installation.
See the OP of the ROM for more detail.

That is a very personal type question. Do you like how the stock interface is? That is Touch-Wiz. There are a few ROMs based on that. However, if you like the true Android interface, with some nice additions, you can try Cyanogenmod. I am on CM 11 m12 with no issues.
If you go into the Android Development section of this forum you will find the ROMs listed. Usually the threads will have attached photos or links to the releases' websites so you can make an informed decision.

I am fairly certain Cyanogenmod will release there CM12 (Lollipop) for SGS3. Not sure if there will be a stock version..all depends on your carrier and how much money they want to throw at our aging device.
A couple to try

There is a CM version of Lollipop (only in alpha stage right now-means not everything working , buggy).
Here's a couple to try, very good, stable, great battery life, no bugs, lots of customization available:
Wicked-X v8.0 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2750674
Tribute v2.0 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2768483
Support for questions is excellent.
First decision you need to make is "What do you want to do with the phone?"
Suggest using Philz recovery for flashing, backing up, etc. See it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2446393
Hope this helps.

I want a stable reliable phone for daily use both personal and work related, with good battery life and power to run some games ow and then without freezing maybe retro emulators.
Wicked X has around 4 or 5 THOUSAND dls with lots of customizability and stability.
Tribute is a simple and stable dd. The stock ROM by CNexus is a good dd too. I'm not sure about aosp ROMs though. I've read good things about PAC ROM and CM11. Basically you'll just need to flash and experiment.
Edit: I forgot to mention Dark Droid and Conquest Singularity. They are prety great also.
No longer being developed

The only reason I didn't mention Dark Droid and Conquest Singularity is they are no longer being developed. (At least the last time I checked). Still good choices but may still have some niggles in them.
CM11 Snapshot M12 is the latest SGS3 and very stable.
I don't run any games. Graphene ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3-sprint/development/rom-graphenerom-t2893200 is very good on battery (well over two days on 1 charge)

Try un checking the reboot option in Odin when you flash the recovery. You are Not supposed to let it reboot. It will override the recovery. Just pull the battery out, put It back in then boot into custom recovery wipe data, dalvik, cache and now flash your pre rooted custom Rom. Then reboot system.
Have a great day! from my LG G3
