Impressions of Lollipop - Desire 816 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Now that Lollipop had been released, what do you guys think of it running on the 816? I've only seen two posts on the forum in random threads about what people thought of it and it was negative but not very informative. I'm waiting to update until I know it's running better than 4.4

I find that it is both smoother and more polished than kitkat. Camera is improved, and so is battery life. The main downside is that (at least in the Virgin Mobile update) a TON of bloatware was added that cannot be removed without root. Other than that, everything is nicer than kitkat and I'm glad I updated!

Been using lolipop for quite some time now. I was impressed with the update. The camera is a bit disappointing tough, especially in low light. And the do not disturb icon is a bit weird.

Beyond not being great in low light, is the camera at least as the one included with kitkat? Also is there anything of note besides the improved battery life over kitkat? I have to do a full restore using the RUU to do the update so I want to make sure it's worth the time to go through ask that work.

I've noticed it's a lot snappier and quicker. And I love the look of lollipop vs KitKat when it comes to Sense, but that's a personal thing I suppose.

New phone

Although I have had fun with my desire, I can help but think it is now outdated. I've read about the sensation xe, what's everyones thoughts? My desire is the amoled version, do you think I will be disappointed with the sensation xe screen? Should I wait a little loner? Should I even move to the dark side and get an iPhone 5 when available?
I would be greatful for your thoughts and help.
Thank you

It's not outdated, just flash a good rom on it. But if you don't like it, get something else. You can still sell your desire for quite some money...
Been through a few roms, currently running insertcoin, miui before that for quite a while. Phone just seems a bit slow now, plus I'm one of those people who always want the latest

I used miui until a few months ago, got a bit bored and went back to a sense rom, might give miui another go. Thanks for everyones thoughts.
Just back to one of my original questions though, my desire has the amoled screen. Will the newer slcd screen on the sensation be much different quality wise, for better or worse?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
The amoled screen has a bit better colors, but the slcd screen of the sensation is better in every other aspect in my personal opinion.
But I think best would be to look for yourself, try the sensation in phone store.
I too eventualy got bored with the desire. After playing with almost every Android phone on the market I fell in love with the galaxy s2. The screen did it for me. It is truly breathtaking. Just before I tried it I played with the LG optimus 3d and was impressed with the effect but when you compare the s2 screen to it the difference is amazing. It made my desire display look so drab and dull. The phone is super fast. Full 1080p video recording. 16meg phone memory. 2mb system memory so no more ext partitions or data to SD.
Go and play with one. Apparently there will be an s3 around the start of nov. I wanted the evo 3doriginally but delays inthe launch. Bad reviews and the locked bootloader put me off. If you like to flash roms the s2 is super easy to root. Just flash an unsecure kernel and that's it. No s off no Linux disks nothing. So that's my sales pitch done with

[Q] So what's your battery like after the 1.2.8 update?

So what's your battery like after the 1.2.8 update?
Haven't seen much talk on this? Has it improved?
Personally, as I have a network branded handset, I am waiting for LeeDroid to update the ROM, so haven't been able to test it out personally.
I had the HOX on 1.27 for only two days and updated yesterday afternoon therefore I cannot be objective as the update coincides with the battery also breaking in... But I like to beleieve it is improving

[Q]Sense 4 project is dead, right?

Guys,
I know there are many posts like this, but to be clear some of those who prefer to stick to desire rather than one x are hoping for sense 4 including me. Unfortunately shaky discontinued his work and no one is interested so I speak for those sense 4 fanatics that we hope this project is continued again, no ETAs no nagging.

I guess some things are too much of a trouble for the devs, think audio was the main issue apart from other stuff of course. And yeah, let it go dude there are already decent ICS roms out there if u want ICS... Btw if you plan on investing in a decent budget phone with Sense 4 I would suggest the One V - bought it for my girlfriend a few months ago and she loves it! And to be quite honest it simply delivers - it is very smooth and fluid, you get the whole sense 4 experience with a very few corners cut, being a few animations here and there and the helicopter view.
I think we can port desire V rom to desire, the spec of desire v is similar than desire
Yes it was a suicide. It didn't find the sense of life.

(Q) did I make the right choice of buying the HOX???

seems it has a lot of problems...I've been lurking thru the Q&A forums and people have a lot of hardware problem ...witch really concerns me...I bought it new...but...again did I make the right choice??? How can I avoid it over heating?? Didn't even knew that was possible.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
I was also disappointment from the HOX. I heard great things about it before buying,
but after using it and seeing problems arise, I starting to think of selling it.
The main thing that made me angry about HTC it's the wifi hardware problem.
Instead of making this right, Like any big firm, and replacing my device (maybe with compensation even)
HTC Support only solution for me is sending them the device for 6-8 weeks!! and paying another 30$ for
it. (Well for shipping it to them)
Although overall, the HOX is pretty good phone (apart from the battery issues and some design flows)
HTC's QA control and how it treats costumers made it worse!
I think I'm done with HTC for the future ...
it's the best actually! xda community is the hottest on this device (except for nexuses), it has really beautiful design and really really good display! i'm coming from a super amoled and this is just WOW!
about lags and other things, don't care, it's all gone with latest updates and anyway with custom roms you'll not have any lag, so i think that if you'll find it for about 450€ it's you best choice.
p.s.: about wifi problem, it's really annoying sometimes, but it's not on all devices, just on firsts, so maybe if you'll buy it now you won't have problem, or at least, here on xda you can find many tutorials about how to fix it

Thanks bro. Hey I got another question my software version is 1.89 and I REALLY want 2.17 the new one. How can I get it??? Tried to install it via software update. And I cant. It just loads then takes off. Nothing happens. And I know there's a new software it needs. I have my phone on H2O. If that matters . I'm completely stock. No root.no Rom. Help please :/

Only some batches of the HOX had defective hardware, so far the only problem my HOX has is heating while charging and using. Although the software is kinda messy (kernels especially), HTCSense is the most beautiful interface ive used so far.

Well when you say "stock" it could mean many different things. "stock" htc rom is sense. "stock" google is AOSP.
but i know what you mean, that's why I'm glad buck still works on his AOSP rom. It's built really well for AOSP on the M7

GPE is nice, and its cool that @santod040 released 4.4.4.(props for being fast and first to do so) might have to try this. 4.4.4 runs great on my N7
As for the over heating, those that were on CM were getting the over heating problem and although CM is technically AOSP its still highly modified AOSP. All the AOSP roms we have, besides bucks, uses CM tree. So they all inherit the same problems.

I think that sense 6 isn't that far off from the new material design of Android L. It's a similar look imo.

Yeah, it's still not the full source code for the 'L" platform though.
So it would take some hackery to make it work on the m7 and without "L" binaries and proprietaries for the m7, it wouldn't be all that functional, in my opinion.

I've enjoyed experimenting with the current custom ROMS available now. Can't wait to see what comes about once Android L is officially out. Until then, I'll be patiently waiting.
Not Official
I have been using CyanogenMod 12, so it isn't "official" but I have enjoyed using it
