[Q] Google Service draining battery - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Anyone experiencing Google Service draining battery life like crazy? I had to turn off my Auto Sync for it to calm down. Also sometimes it force closes, especially on below 5.1. It also happens on my Xperia Z1 Compact too. I also made sure I updated all my Google apps.

[Q] Google play store draining battery?

I have been using the GNEX for about 6 months and I never had any problems.
Since I updated to JB, the battery drain has been quite big. There is also some big lag sometimes, but I suspect that the lag can be tied to the market too.
I see that the market accounts for the battery drain now.
It should be noted that the market was not opened, no apps were updated and there were no notifications. So it must be running in the background.
I did not use the phone much today, read the news in the morning and made 1 phone call. So the drain is quite big for this using.
Has anybody had this problem and knows the solution?
P.S.
I haven't open the maps either.
You can force stop maps, maps can be started by any application that i has location services, Google search, twitter etc. Open play store under settings, uncheck all options.
I just had the same issue with Google Play Store. Plugged the N7 in to charge to get it to power up and the battery usage is showing the Play Store as "Keep awake" for 6h 46m, which essentially drained my battery overnight. I can't see any obvious reason it did this

I have exactly the same issue with my new LG Nexus 4 running JB 4.2 !!!
I removed it from charge this morning and after 5 hours in standby mode the battery was on 20%
ur best bet is to "don't keep activities" in the developer options
re: the maps draining, u'd have to turn off location services but it's needed for google now
^That kinda defeats the whole purpose of owning an Android device. I would at least start by uninstalling updates and opening the Play Store back up. Maybe it got stuck doing something it shouldn't have been. The Maps issue. Mine is always running. Never shows up in my battery stats. There are so many triggers that can cause it to run, so I've given up(There's always AutoStarts, though you need root for it) even trying since it isn't affecting my overall battery life. I leave GPS on, but turn off Google Location Services unless I need it.

I found out that it happens only after it automatically updates my apps.
I disabled the auto update apps from play store and seems to be fine now....
[UPDATE - 16-12-2012]
Today I checked manually for updates, Installed 26 of them and the battery drained again after couple of hours.
For some reason, it does not stop the application and it is constantly using the CPU thus draining the battery. My phone is very hot (temperature) at the moment and I have not used it for almost 2 hours and it was not on charge !!!
This is ridiculous.....

Excessive Battery Drain

Hey guys!
So I just bough a brand new Z1 compact but battery seems to be draining a lot even if the phone is idle. I have updated to the latest kitkat .157 build and have performed a repair of the OS through sony companion but the problem persists.
Stamina mode is always on, location is off, brightness is close to the lowest setting and auto sync is off. The phone has stayed mostly iddle except occasional browsing, facebooking and mild gaming.
Is this normal? What should I do?

Poor reception seems to be the cause. The phone consumes more power to keep the signal. This happens on every phone. I don't think thats excessive battery drain
Hope this helps.
You can install g Sam battery monitor and check there whats cause the problem in my case from yesterday my phone is keeping awake and main process is kernel I need to flash whole rom today via flashtool because ovee night my battery drop about 15% and wakelock detector doesnt detect anything
After some googling I found THIS which has helped me, I've also disabled Google Location Manager Service & Google Location service as they were running all the time, not sure off the knock on effect just yet as I only disabled them last night.

Lollipop Sense Battery Life

Even though I have since moved back to KitKat I want to look into the battery life problem I was having. Google Play Services always took the highest amount of battery. Both screen on and screen off had Google Play Services at the top with screen off battery showing nothing but google play services and nothing else. I did not change my usage pattern from KitKat. So what about lollipop caused this? Its not GPS polling since I set my phone to battery saving and while I did see a difference it wasn't enough to put a dent in my battery usage.

Google Play Services Drain

Hello everyone!
I have a situation here ... I have quite massive battery drain from Google Play Services on my HTC One M9. I check with my gf Samsung Galaxy S6 and her G play services were about 1%. My were almost 50%... The only difference is I use LG G Watch R paired to my phone but I tried disconnecting it and still same... I use Google Fit and also tried disabling it but not much of a difference. There was about 10% less of drain when I put my location on battery save. But it is still over the ruff with that drain. My device is not rooted so I can't check battery wakes ... I kinda don't know what to do any more. Has any one had problem like this and how did you solve it?
I am thankful for any responses or ideas. (Sorry for bad English)
Did you ever learn anything about this? My friend has the same problem on his M9.
While screen off mine used 63%
started happening for me too today, together with "system (adsprpcd)" (and no, I don't have google app installed, nor nuplayer enabled), rebooting didn't help.
I've same issue
I tried to turn off the data connection while screen off, and oddly the problem solved !
Also noticed that system use network as shown in picture in Wi-Fi packets received section.
the Gsam battery monitor shows that System use "Video On" for 16 hours in my last charging circle, honestly I don't know what's that mean.
I wonder if I stopped data connection for system process will solve the issue permenantly and we don't have to turn off the Wi-Fi, and why system and google play service use the network while screen off ?
I will try it and let you know
Best thing to do is set location to battery saving, turn off as much sync as you can, and wipe data on play services. I think this is an issue with Android. 5.1 should fix it.

has anyone tried the GServiceFix app whilst using a Huawei watch?

I'm getting huge battery drain from Google play services on my Z5, just wondered if anyone had tried GServiceFix and if there were any adverse effects on the watch connection?
if not I guess I'll be guinea pig
I used it since Google Play Services were acting up (28% battery vs. 9% battery used by the screen). It didn't fix anything for me, Google Play Services were draining battery still after the fix. Issues are now gone since I updated my SGS6 to 6.0.1. though.
