I work in administration at a public university, and I've had my Note 10.1 2014 for about 2 weeks now. So far it's been great -- we're a Microsoft campus, and the new Office apps for tablets, in conjunction with OneNote, have been really excellent. Being able to send documents to OneNote and syncing them to the tablet so I can have everything available in meetings has been really great. I think with time the Office apps will improve (if I could take notes directly onto a Word document I'd be in great shape).
I'm wondering, though, what accessories would be best for hooking up to a projector (either USB or VGA) or to a TV (HDMI)? There are some older threads about MHT and OTG accessories, but I'm wondering if anyone recently has been using anything. I haven't had a need to use it for presentations yet, but it may happen in the near future.

you can always use a google chromecast and just plug into any hdmi port.
allshare cast hub?
I'm in your boat. My school only has VGA connectors for our projectors. I just bought this adapter. I've tested it and it works great.

As most people have probably already heard, the "MHL" port on the SGS3 isn't compatible with existing MHL accessories or displays (so it isn't really an MHL port then is it). See this site for more on that.
Sammie has released some over-priced accessories for it, but buying those would reward and re-inforce this move (the only nasty thing the've done on an otherwise brilliant phone) and they would probably become landfill when you get your next phone. Besides, Sammie recently indicated that this port can do more, so I guess that means they will release a second round of video accessories for this phone, making the first round landfill even before you move on to your next phone.
So, if someone really needs video output for their SGS3, what are their options?
Samsung makes a wireless (Wi-Fi) streaming video dongle for the GSIII, but this too appears to be proprietary and possibly just for the GS3. It looks like there are standards coming for wireless streaming, but they aren't here yet (e.g. Miracast).
Are there other wireless video streaming devices that work with the SGS3?
Even better, though, has any other company created accessories that are compatible with the fake MHL port on the SGS3? The best would be something that worked with the SGS3 and with standards compliant MHL devices and displays (of which there are now > 100), but I don't know if that is possible.
Actually, for some users, something a bit different might work...
DLNA for example, which allows you to play content from your phone on any smart TV. It's not the same as 'video out' for your phone, but I think some poeple are just looking for a way to get media from their phone to their display. And DLNA is very widely supported standard now.
Also, these are low cost Android 4 devices in the form of an HDMI dongle - you plug them directly into your TV:
Infinitec Pocket TV
The Kogan Smart TV HDMI dongle
:meh: For $10 you can get the adapter from Samsung to use the old MHL adapters. The new adapter allows USB OTG, if I understand correctly, that is added functionality over what the old MHL offered. I don't think they changed just to make users buy new MHL adapters.

First problem is that would mean you need an adapter for an adapter, which is a cumbersome solution.
More importantly, I believe that what you are saying is not true: I have reviewed the info from Samsung so far and it appears to me that the new adapter adapter does not support any of the additional capabilities (USB org) that Samsung has recently suggested that the 11pin port is capable of.
That means that there will be new accessories soon to enable that capability, so you will have 3 accessories for that one port, just to do one thing.
No cheap and trustworthy ebay alternatives yet??

Get a HDMI android tv dongle.
Then install mirrorOp sender/receiver for screen mirroring.
Works fine enough but frame rate may not be fast enough for gaming mirroring.

It should be noted that this solution requires that your Android be rooted. Here's the product page for the Android version of mirrorOp.

Has it been confirmed that OTG works together with the new MHL adapter? AndroidNZ couldn't get it to work in one of his video reviews
I couldn't get it to work.

Apparently that is an implementation of the Wi-Fi alliances Miracast standard, which sounds great, but for now (i.e. until Android ships with it) it requires root access.
I have bought a few products and have been successful at hooking my note 2 up to a tv with excellent results. I want to also hook up usb hub. I have had SO much bad luck even trying to find out a solution. It seems something is wrong here... oh I see now since I read all of galaxymhl.com. If there was any chance of me paying for the Samsung dock its NOT going to happen now. Dont ever mess with a standard!
I am ready to get out my solder gun and wire it myself...
I own this..
http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters...605012&sr=8-1&keywords=caBLE+MATTERS+HDMI+MHL
The micro usb is only for power only - NO DATA!!!
Also just bought this
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008FRJORK/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The USB does not work with the phone! So sending it back today.
I need HDMI as well as DATA simultaneously. If I missed something I am sorry. It just seems people and products are not clear about this.
If there is a site on rewiring these cables it would be awesome. Does anyone have a solution???
Hello everyone,
I was wondering if someone has tried to make the Sony NSG-MR5U or NSG-MR7U (the same but with a microphone), originally made for the NSZ-GS7 and NSZ-GS8 Google TV boxes, on Android ?
I was looking for remote for my android tablet (Samsung Galaxy note 8) and Nexus 5 that I plug on my TV. I found tons of ****ty "made in china" bluetooth remotes on the amazon/ebay (like the iPazzPort™ ProMini Bluetooth Mini Wireless Keyboard).
I have bought this Sony remote, the quality and feel is really good, it can pair with my tablet, the keyboard and most buttons are working, but unfortunately the touchpad is not... This would be the ultimate remote for Android
I did not find anything on the web, except some people tried to make the NSG-MR5U on Linux (forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=153504&page=2 and mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg03251.html), but agin the trackpad is not working. I did not find anything on XDA about this remote.
Anyone has an idea how to make the touchpad of this remote work on Android ?
Let us know if you find the way to solve it. I am considering to buy Logitech K400r guys are agreeing to be the best choice. Thanx.
I want this remote to work on my windows HTPC. everything works except a few minor buttons and the trackpad. all this remote really needs is someone with experience to make a trackpad driver, and whatever would be necessary to allow the remote to wake a sleeping machine. The keyboard and most media keys work fine on their own. the rest of the keys that don't work can be customized using Eventghost. I have a serial cable for my Samsung tv to connect to my pc as well to operate the tv for basic functions. if I could just get this remote to work, id have a perfect setup for my needs.
Also, confirmed working on my Nexus 5. basically all functions OP mentioned work. no trackpad of course. I wonder if someone could pull the drivers from the Sony google TV this remote came from, since its an android device as well?

Up!
This remote already has a driver for Android (I think the Sony NSZ-GS8 Google TV box is running the Jelly Bean Google TV). Does anyone know how to extract a driver from Android in general? The closest answer I found to this is not very encouraging : android.stackexchange.com/questions/28379/where-are-android-drivers-located-in-the-system
[PS: the 10 post limitation for posting URLs and in Dev forums is really very annoying!]

How the Logitech K400r is supposed to work on Android? According to the specs, this keyboard is using the unifying receiver instead of the bluetooth standard.. But that said, I have this keyboard for a Windows 7 PC and it is working beautifully.

Why you ask? Well for one the Box this was designed to work with was a Sony made Google TV .. hoping someone somewhere has a copy of that firmware and we might be able to extract what we need to get this working fully! I just retired my Sony Nsz-gs8 for a Nvidia Shield TV but I miss the sony remote so hopefully someone can do their magic.
This Bluetooth adapter works flawlessly and I haven't ran into a single hiccup!
In the package: You get the adapter itself, a CD to install its drivers (only if you're on Windows XP/Vista, otherwise it will automatically install on Windows 7/8), and an "EasyAcc cares about you" card.
First Impressions: Wow, this thing is TINY! When I first plugged it in on my Windows 7 laptop, it automatically installed its drivers and was already up and running. A Bluetooth menu starts appearing in the Notification Area of your Taskbar. I have already paired my phone with my laptop and it was a breeze. I just clicked on the Bluetooth Icon in the Notification Area, clicked the "Add a Device" button, and went ahead from there. I already sent a file from my phone to my laptop and received it in seconds. It is very nice! Files are automatically saved in your documents but you can change the file location.
After using this for a while, I have to say, it is quite useful have Bluetooth capabilities on my laptop. I no longer have to pull out a micro-USB cable every time I want to transfer a file from my phone to my laptop or vice versa. I was able to transfer 12 photos from my phone to my laptop in over a minute (the bigger the file, the longer the transfer times). You can connect to other laptops, tablets, wireless headphones, and even headsets to this small adapter. You can connect just about any Bluetooth device. I think that is truly amazing!
I used to hate how my laptop did not come with Bluetooth already, but then I received this from the nice folks at EasyAcc and it is truly remarkable. I can't imagine not having it. This would be great for students, people that use computers in the work industry, people that are traveling, people on vacation that quickly want to travel their vacation pictures, just about anyone and anybody! If you own a computer or laptop that does not have Bluetooth, you really should consider buying this!
Overall, this device was very good and performed fantastically with no problems whatsoever. It never heats up or anything of the sort. I highly recommend this!
I was supplied a unit for testing purposes and I promised to provide a completely honest and fair review.
Unfortunately, I cannot post the link to this product on Amazon because posting commercial links is forbidden, but you can find it on Amazon by searching for the product's name that is in the title of this thread. Thanks!
Is this OK with Window 7 Enterprise x64 SP1?
Sorry to trouble you but I was hoping you could tell me which version of Windows you are running. There is a review on amazon which says that the device does not work on Windows 7 Enterprise x64 (USB device not recognised reported).
Many thanks..

Not a problem at all. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium and it seemed to work fine for me.
Hello,
We're in the market for phone upgrades. I currently have a Pixel XL and my spouse still has his Nexus 5x. We're giving some thought to the SGS9+, if we can find a BOGO type deal as TMO did several times last year. While they aren't that exciting, I do like the addition of Samsung Pay that works with any strip reader and some of the other features (though we aren't completely sold on it yet).
We're traveling and typically bring a streaming stick which works in most places. But the internet in our current place is just too show so it doesn't work at all. We happened to have an external hard drive with some media files on it but we're currently having to use a Windows laptop to run the files since the stuck doesn't have a USB in.
I'm wondering if it's possible to use the SGS9+ as an OTG to read the external hard drive while using the HDMI out at the same time? Can I charge too? Would some sort of a USB C dock work for this? Or something else? Thanks so much in advance!

Maybe to late of a reply, but i think your refering to the samsung dex pad. It has 2 usb ports, 1 hdmi out, ethernet. Phone connects to dock via usb c. Kind of expensive tho $99. You can also buy a generic version that does the same thing on amazon for $30. It doesnt look as pretty, but functionality is the same.
Anyone else getting it/looking forward to it? I'm looking forward to that new remote most of all tbh
I will 100% be getting it, but I'm waiting for Black Friday to buy it. Putting my old (2017) Shield in my bedroom, new Shield in the living room and Firestick in the guest room.

Where is it available? I looked and only see old one..NOW available on Nvidia site
I am in CT and I see it listed on the best buy site. Says it is available at their Danbury CT store today.
The base model looks so disgusting , no way I'm placing this on my shelf to expose, plus it lacks USB ports and has no gamepad. Why would they make it round like that ? An article I read says it might be to compete with firesticks and chromecast small form factor devices. No USB ports is a killer though.. my favorite keyboard/remote combo could not work in it. So the only way to have gamepads to play on this would be bluetooth ? I might go with the pro eventually , but not until it's been tested by the community and that feedback has been given.
Edit: Just notice the remote is triangular... Why can't nvidia design a proper remote ?

The "non" pro is meant to lay on the floor where your cables run and not be visible. I has an SD card slot. This may be enough for most people.
