Does rooting decrease battery life? Just wondering, because I just got my new Kindle Fire. My last one wouldn't charge. I just went to best buy and they gave me a new one. My last one's battery life wasn't too good, and I was just wondering if rooting decreases the battery life. And I mean does it change 7 hours of reading with lowest brightness to 5 hours of reading with the lowest brightness. I mean, it rarely died on me but I was just wondering. I guess that there might be some extra apps running.

I don't see how rooting in itself would adversely affect battery life. All rooting does to the system software is install another binary (su) and an app (Superuser). Neither one is going to affect battery life, so I'm sure there must be some other factors involved.
Rooting your Kindle Fire will allow you to better manage running apps/processes, which will actually IMPROVE your battery life. My biggest tip for saving some juice: if you're not using it, turn it off. This includes apps, the play/kindle store, the backlight, and most of all, WiFi. It just EATS battery.
Also, try not to let your battery get too low. Draining your battery past its reserves will reduce your overall battery life. Hope this helped
Hey guys, just wondering, but if I tick "NFC" on, will it waste battery life?
And also, will turning on S Beam as well?
Lol thanks!

no. next question.

yes, any extra service the phone has to run uses battery.. common sense.. might not be a lot, but it still uses battery.
Okay. I kinda knew that it would waste battery, but I wasn't sure,
But thanks!

He didn't ask if NFC uses battery, he asked if it waste battery. I don't even have any NFC devices but I have mine ticked ON and my battery life though out the day with gaming, web, texting, phone calls, and probably some rom flashing is good.

if the service is in use it will use battery, if not than in won't. why even have it ON if you don't ever use it. no point.
It only uses battery when you use it. Not because it's just on. I keep my nfc on all day. It's never been ticked off and it does not affect my battery life.

Nabeel,
It will use battery, not much. It's because off the technology Samsung integrated into it.
I have mine all day long. No extra loss. Was reluctant to turn it on also, but after turning it on and forgetting that I did, no obvious drain. No wasted battery here.

Does it use battery? Of course it does. How else can it know when it's next to a tag. The tags are not powered. The question may be, how much. IMHO, very little... next to nothing.
Its probably like GPS, it only uses battery if its actually being used.
Sorry for digging an old topic but I was doing research on this. Your average NFC receiver will drain about 40-50mA of power when active. Now whether it's active or not depends on the software, but most of the time when it's "on" in your settings it will poll a couple of times a second. So yeah, it drains the battery. But how much exactly?
Contrary to previous suggestions it contributes more than a GPS receiver when your maps/location services are off, because that's when the GPS receiver itself is not on because it doesn't have to poll for satellite activity, obviously. The NFC chip has to be in stand-by though, in case another device wants to use it. When the software is properly programmed it might be a couple mA, spiking up to ~50mA during use. This means it contributes little to overall battery usage, but at the highest level of abstraction it does add up to it.
Hello.
I was wondering if my battery life is low or not, so I want to know what your battery life is guyz.
My battery would last like 12hs with wifi always on and facebook, some music here and then and youtube. is it a normal consumption ?
There are so many variables that come into play with battery life that is nearly impossible to quantify what sort of battery life someone should be getting. Screen on time, brightness settings, radios used, reception, usage patterns, apps running in the background....tons of things that will be different from person to person. Also, the actual battery itself comes into play with how well it can hold a charge.
As long as you are happy with your battery situation, all is well. If not, perhaps look into what is using your battery. Better Battery Stats can potentially help you narrow down where things on the software end are draining your battery.

That's about what I use to get.
I went out and bought a spare battery. I'm not a fan of extended batteries so I went with a standard battery for about $10.
I also flashed a new kernel that will help on the screen brightness and underclocking.

I have an AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4 running Lollipop. I've noticed I have been having fairly poor battery life over the last few days with Android System taking up the most usage. I purchased a spare battery for my Note 4 yesterday and I have been using the new battery with my phone. My android system usage is significantly lower with the new battery. Does this mean the older battery is defective? Or is it something else with the phone? Has anyone experience the same circumstances?
And yes, I have a SD card installed and I have factory reset my phone and wipe the cache after I installed Lollipop.

If I were you, I'd use the new battery a few days before jumping to conclusions. The Android System usage may start up again. Knock on wood that it doesn't.

Thanks for the reply. Hopefully it won't start up again. I just feel it's weird because a new battery shouldn't affect what is using the battery but rather how long the battery lasts. Isn't that right?

I think so. I mean, the only thing I could think of that might reduce ASystem with a new battery would be if the new battery didn't have NFC. Then MAYBE ASystem will go down just because the system wouldn't be detecting the NFC chip. But even then, I wouldn't expect a huge drop in %usage.
If the old battery was defective, I also wouldn't expect ASystem to run high. If the CPU were bad though, then it definitely would because the cpu may not enter deep sleep, so the phone is always technically on. (I had the happen with my old phone. Had to get it warranty replaced).
Just keep an eye on it for a few days to see if things continue to stay good.
Btw, what battery? OEM? Third party? Large capacity (like a 6400mAh battery)?

The new battery is just OEM. and thanks for your input.
So...with the new battery about 10 hours of run time and 4.5 hours of screen time (mostly YouTube). I am at 8% battery life? Is this normal?
Also here's my setup
- Bluetooth off.
- Location On - Power Saving Mode
- WiFi on and connected, look for WiFi network is On. Always connected to WiFI is on.
- YouTube @ 15% of Battery and Screen / Android System both taking up 14%.
- Screen Brightness on Auto
Is this normal or should I be getting battery life out of my phone?

I think many people report 4.5-5 hours of constant screen on time, so I think your getting normal battery life.
I usually get about 1-2 hrs screen on time, but my phone is in standby for tge rest of the time. I usually then get a day and a half of battery life (or 2 days).

Technically, it should be possible to get some great battery life with this phone's big battery. Is it possible to change the resolution and also limit the refresh rate to let's say 10-60 instead of 10-120?
This alone should help a lot with battery. I am hesitate buying this phone because of the battery life I have seen in reviews.

You can force refresh rate (60-120) in the developer options as far as I know. 10hz is not yet available to force (as far as I know), but stay tuned to what the root community can do about that in the future.
So forcing to 60hz would help. What about resolution? Yes, absolutely. I am excited to see what kind of battery life is possible with some kernels/tweaks
Definitely turn off 5G. If you can. I heard some people don't have that option. Sucks we have to turn off all these features for better battery life. Mine is getting better over time. But coming from P5, this battery sucks
I actually got an iPhone 11 Pro Max a while ago and the battery life is just awesome. Never have to think about it and I don't turn off anything. I was expecting the same from the 5000mah battery of the P6 Pro... I read that with 5G too already. I really want to go back to Android but I don't want worse videos or battery life..
Y'all must not of fully charged your phones before using them allowing the device to calibrate properly. I have no issues with battery on the P6P with heavy usage... Lasts through an 18 hour day without needing charged.
I'm not sure what's going on with my phone idling overnight but I lose about 10% when I wake up. Happened consistently 3 nights now.
Since I have never had 120hz refresh rate I don't know what I am missing so I am cool with forcing it to permanent 60hz if that saves battery life. Same with resolution. Curious what kind of battery life can be achieved with these tweaks.

My mistake is comparing it to my P5. Not even close with battery. But their are a ton of differences. I get it. That's what chargers are for. I love the phone though.

The display is one of the main "extra" features you get going from 6 to 6 Pro aside from extra camera. If you're worried about battery life because of 120hz then just buy the regular 6.

I hear what you are saying and I thought about it. I saw a review that put the front cameras next to each other and that put me off the regular Pixel 6. The 5000mah just sound so great and if we can change resolution and refresh rate that must increase battery life a lot.
My battery doing great off charge at 9 this morning ,used a lot and on 72% ,but I can't find anywhere in battery info that give time or SOT since last charge
My battery life has been great so far, Accubattery is estimating over 11hrs SOT and over 75hrs standby at this point. 120hz/5g both enabled. If someone is having bad battery life you may want to monitor specific apps that are keeping the phone from hitting deep sleep. Took mine off the charger 3.5 hours ago with 1hr SOT and sitting at 92%.
You can't change the resolution to 1080p, no. You can't change to 90hz or 60hz (no idea about dev options). So no, the easiest ways to save battery aren't available.

Nope, this is certainly not the right answer. Google should have enabled users to change the resolution and refresh rate like other phones have and this would be a non issue.

Nothing needs to "calibrate properly" when charging a battery.

Coming from a P4 XL and the battery life is great, but as we all know, the P5 had good battery life, because it had a smaller screen (le pixels), lower refresh rate and a weak ass processor, so it was definitely to expect that the P6 Pro would have less battery life, except if people life like a gremlin in a cave with unrealistic expectations^^

As far as I know, Battery calibration is a myth. At least, it may as well be these days. It's a relic of recommendations for older, nickel-based batteries. Those needed calibration, modern lithium ones don't.
