Galaxy S6 pressure test and breaking point - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

The newest Samsung device, Galaxy S6 has been tested for its bendable breaking point like the Apple product, iPhone 6 Plus. The result? Both devices have a problem after a high pressure and this is normal if we think that both devices are not described by the producer as bendable devices.
iPhone 6 Plus is a 5.5 inch smartphone with Full HD display, the first Apple Full HD display. Apple display is protected by an Ion-strengthened glass which makes it more resistant of scratches than older iPhone version. Under the hood, we find a better processor, the Apple A8 chip, dual-core 1.4 GHz Cyclone and a PowerVR GX 6450 graphic card. As we used, Apple device does not have a memory slot card and is available in three storage version: 16 GB, 32 GB, and 128 GB. The RAM memory is just 1 GB.
iPhone 6 Plus
Galaxy S6 is a 5.1 inches device and is using a Super AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass 4 protection. The Korean device is using the own processor, Exynos 7420, a quad-core A53 chip and a quad-core A 57 version. The video card is a Mali-T760MP8 chip which offer a high-quality video play. Like the Apple device, this time, Samsung give it up the memory card and offer three variants of internal storage memory: 32 GB, 64 GB, and 128 GB. All of these are powered by 3 GB of RAM.
Pressure test
The pressure test has been made by an American insurance company for the best devices of the 2015 beginning, iPhone 6 Plus, Galaxy S6 and HTC M9. We are talking today about two first devices.
iPhone 6 Plus has been tested from 1 pound to 179 pounds to reach the breaking point. The bending point has been discovered at 110 pond when the device bent, ant applying pressure to 179 pounds has been discovered the breaking point(complete damage).
Galaxy S6 has been tested from 1 pound to 149 pounds. The bending point has been set at 110 pounds like the Apple device, but the breaking point(complete damage) is lower than the iPhone 6 Plus, at 149 pounds.
If we take a look at the bending point, both devices seem to be at the same line. If we talk about the breaking point, Apple device could be better than the Samsung device, having a better pressure resistance.
As I said, no device has been called by the producer to be flexible or bendable. This is a normal thing to happen when the pressure is high on the device. The First time, the case is bending including the device display and after the pressure grows up, both, display and case are breaking making the devices unusable.
If we take is serious the rumors, the future devices will use flexible displays and flexible cases which can make those devices more resistant and more bendable and even rollable. Samsung has already had the display technology and more than sure is developing the “flexible body” for their first real flexible device.

I really don't see the point of all these bend test. I doubt anybody will put hundred of pounds of pressure onto a single point of their phone in every day use.

samsung has already responded to this whole bend test thing and shuts it down. Even challenges squaretrade to do another one in a more correct way.

Yeah whats the point?
Apple fanboi? I am not going to spend this much money and let it get into a position where it bends?

Why would you even think about posting this on XDA? Notice there is no Apple forum such as this that has as many tweaks, hacks and possiblilties as an Android phone. If you are a simple type of person that doesnt understand the capabilities and options you have with Android then its completely understandable why they are dumb enough to buy and Iphone. Instead of posting this crap why dont you compare the things that really matter . Like actually feeling like you own your phone. The limited access to the file system with IOS is that way for one reason . To funnel money into Apples pocket. they want to force you to get music , movies etc.. through them and the only way to transfer media is through Itunes and that is just the tip of the iceberg . A stock Android phone is almost as customizable as a jailbroken Crapple Iphone

Nexus 5X, 6X, 5P or 6P

Curious what people favor if they had the choice:
5X = convenient size with mid-range specs, plastic build, against a competitive price
6X = phablet with mid-range specs, plastic build, against a competitive price
5P = convenient size with premium specs and build, against a slightly higher price point
6P = phablet with premium specs and build, against a slightly higher price point
5P = for premium specs and plastic
Honestly I feel the plastic is the superior material for a phone anyway. It flexes when dropped unlike metal and doesn't dent as easily. Some plastic composites could be even stronger than metal. You could also make it plastic with a metal frame and you can retain the wireless charging.
I agree it also makes the phone lighter and therefore more comfortable to use.
5p definitely if that were an option!
5P for sure. 5 inch premium ones are becoming a rare thing unfortunately.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Plastic is great. Absorbs bumps. Dissipates heat. Keeps price down.
Also, the phone goes in a case anyways so no matter what it is made of you are going to be holding plastic at the end of the day regardless

5P without a doubt. Would've loved a higher spec'd 5 inch device.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
I voted 5X. Here's why:
The 16gb 5X is priced at $379, which was already higher than what most people speculated. The build quality (despite some yellow screens) is solid and is built by a reputable, Korean based electronics company; LG. The specs of this phone are honestly perfect. It has an above-average LCD screen that dwarfs others priced above this phone in terms of brightness, color and viewing angle. Fantastic Sony camera sensor that, despite not having OIS, is capable of taking some breathtaking videos and photos. It also has snappy laser auto-focus. A fingerprint scanner that is being regarded as one of the best on the market right now, even topping the one on the iPhone 6S according to some reviewers. A 6 Core processor that is capable of clock rates near 2 GHz and doesn't melt a hole in the planet. Decent sized battery with the ability to easily last all day with average SOT. 2gb of RAM on an operating system that is designed to use as much RAM as possible and seamlessly free some up when needed. (Many people seem to not grasp this). Combined with the latest vanilla build of Android with many updates to come and a decent plastic outer shell. It's honestly exactly what Google claims it to be. "The All Around Performer". It's a perfect phone for about 90% of the populace.
Would I have liked Gorilla Glass 4? Yeah. Should the camera lens glass be more durable? Probably. Is the speaker kind of cheap? Yeah, sure. -- Honestly, the only thing I can genuinely complain about is the lack of an SD card slot. And really, it's only really necessary when you have the 16GB version like I do. You know what isn't necessary? A metal body, an 8-core CPU, 4gb of RAM, 4K screen, etc. etc. This phone, in my opinion, is the benchmark of what all budget-minded phones should have. Anything beyond these specs are just gimmicks or niche devices. I made the mistake of purchasing a flagship phone this spring that I wound up hating because they slapped a bunch of the most expensive materials and hardware together. I use my phone for texting, Snapchat, Facebook and some Internet searches. The majority of the public uses their phones for the exact same thing. Not heavy 3d gaming or benchmarking or anything else. Flagship devices are great and drive down prices of "lesser" devices, Their technology eventually trickles down into the devices under them. But they're used by many, many people that never come close to reaching the full potential of the device. It's like the grandmas you see out traveling 20mph below the speed limit in their Cadillac CTS; completely clueless to the fact that there's a V6 with 330+ HP up front that has probably never been revved past 3 grand.
A Nexus 5P would be interesting, but if the main focus is on an aluminum body and some beefier specs, I wouldn't give it any consideration. It's just not necessary for the way that I use my phone and it'd probably be near $500 which is Nexus 6P territory.
@Alcolawl
I agree to some amount, but some small changes would have made it even better. Just a few extra components like good stereo speakers, 1GB extra RAM (so you don't have to worry if it's enough for about 2 years time) and metal buttons on the side.
Regarding the above and your price statement that only holds up in the US. If Google wouldn't subsidize their Nexus phones there (like now in Europe) the price would increase with 50 dollar for the 5X and with 90 dollar for the 6P. For that price they could have made those small changes IMHO.
5P for me, provided it also had a significantly larger battery to handle a premium CPU / screen. This would of course require a thicker device which is fine by me.
Honestly - OS notwithstanding - Microsoft's recent announcement of the Lumia 950 is nearly a home run in my opinion
(please Google, read this thread before next year's release).

Solid points. The ceramic buttons on the old Nexus 5 were nice, I would've gone for those again if they didn't want to take the metal route. There's no way those can really effect the price in any major way at all. Stereo speakers would be nice, but it's not a huge deal in my book and the speaker gets plenty loud for what I mainly use it for; watching quick videos.
I did not consider the subsidization. If the 16gb N5X cost $429 I would've definitely expected the things you mentioned above (besides maybe the RAM). I wonder if the camera sensor and the fingerprint scanner are what prevented Google from adding other, higher quality, components elsewhere.

Where did all the compact phones go?

I'm so fed up with these giant 5"+ things... I can't hold them properly (read: should be *in* my palm, not *on* it) and use with one hand... Are there still any phones with 4.5" or smaller screens? Or is there some magic way of holding a device that I'm not aware of? Because now, I can either balance the slab on my finger tips and risk dropping it, or hold it in one hand and use with the other. Both solutions are dirty.
There might be an occasional 4.5 - 4.7 mini, from Sony or some other company, but even the ZTE Axon and Nubia mini are 5 - 5.2 inch. :-/ The 5 and 5.5 inch, plus the 5.7 to 6 inch is a trend that manufacturers are sticking with, apparently. It's even hard to find that new mid-ranger with nice stats, parts, battery in 5 inch, these days.
What's funny is.....when these large screens first came out, those of us using them were ridiculed and laughed at for how big they were.
Now, not so much.
I think AT&T is going to stop allowing 2G phones on their network starting in 2017.
Well, i was laughed at for having a 4.3" device. Because it was huge. Good times

Xperia L1 is a phenomenal device and you should buy it

Ok, I have got myself an L1 - didnt have money for a premium device as I always tend to buy top phone, so I went with the reviews to buy a budget phone with a big screen and not a single review was in favor of L1
That is completely shi*. As soon as I entered the store, I realized L1 is 3x better than other similar phones. The biggest problem reviews are saying with L1 is that it doesnt have fingerprint sensor, compared to Motorola G5 and other similar price-range phones, completely disregarding the fact that this phone is miles, years and eons in front of all other manufacturers when it comes to design and quality. Something HTC had back in the day, premium build quality
First of all - If finger print sensor is so god-damn important than you are a girl with nude selfies. I had several Huawei devices with best finger-print make and not once did I activate that stuff, I dont even lock my phone so I dont get what the big fuss is
L1 >
- superb screen. (who ever says they see individual pixels at 267 PPI should get punched in the face)
- Better camera quality compared to ANY mid-range price device.
- Phenomenal build you would find in only premium phones, excluding the slightly thicker body.
- one of the best plastic finishes on plastic-body phones, ever
- guaranteed harder body than 99.9% phones ever made (if there is one phone you will hope survived 3 floors fall, it's this one)
- has Mediatek MT6737T which is really OK chipset, slightly slower CPU than Snapdragon 801, sligthly stronger GPU (snapdragon 801 is stronger than J7 2017 exynos SoC, for example)
- Sony has really tried on this one, to tone down the big chin-forehead bezel on it's design (74% screen to body ratio)
- exactly due to 720p and MTK chipset, 2620 Maph battery holds really really good, charges fast even though stock charger is 1A (I didnt even try the quick charge with 2A)
- a really simple solution to make phone not-slippery: make plastic rough but somehow matte so it looks great
- USB C on such a device, looking forward
Downsides:
- no earbuds ? seriously Sony ? you are the earbud people, japanese people, and you dont putt even those stock-shi* earphones ?
- no screen protector out-of-the-box, just that lame transparent thin shi* that falls off immediately
- my device needs force to plug-in USB-C, nothing big but noticeable
- poor choice of accessories compared to beaten-to-death HTC who makes those fancy cover-thingies with holes n' shi* even for budget phones , you need to up your game Sony
In my opinion, in this price range, there is no better device than L1. I dont care about fingerprint, my points of interest are phenomenal big screen, sturdy and quality build and lack of stupid design stuff on the phone you are surely gonna damage (like those frames with thin lines and glossy finish on Samsungs you are destined to chip, break, or damage) - this phone is great and you should buy it
Samsung stereo headset works 100%.
You can use screen protector for LG G4 even it looks weird.
I prefer type C because it has OTG support out of the box.
Other than the case, I can use all accessories on hand with no problem.
i got earbuds with mine, they are not great but not terrible but it hurts ears if you use it for a while.
My issue with the L1 is that too many apps wont transfer to my SD and of the ones that do there a too many that wont update while they're on the SD
Hay I'm planning to buy this phone
What can you tell me about speakers?
Is voice noisy or disorted?
Can you post some photos of your cameras?
Thank you
This device uses MEDIATEK chip. Can we use MTK Tool with it?

I 100% Agree :good:
The entire Range of Sony/MediaTek devices M5, C4, C5, XA, XA1, L1, E5 and variants of are/were Awesome value for money and If I had the cash I would buy them all !!
Build quality is fantastic through out the range and you get Sony aftercare at the price of a obscure china import phone It's a no brainer to me.
The mediatek naysayer's/haters here on xda are usually noob's who never built anything ever and read old topics from ten years ago then spout the same old garbage (so annoying )

Just looking at the L1 now Manufacturer Refurbished with 12 months Warranty "A1" condition and Sim Free £69
Similar deals on the XA and XA1 too but I really want the XA1 Ultra

Question Is it worth it?

My current phone, a Google Pixel 3 XL, needs to replaced pretty soon as the USB port is somewhat broken and replacing it does not seem to really be worth it, due to some other things (brightness, camera, etc.) I am annoyed of.
I have been eying the new Sony smartphones for a while now and I am not sure whether it is really worth the 400€. My other choice would be a Samsung A52 5G and now I am wondering what you guys think about this Sony phone so far.
- Is the camera really as bad as the reviews suggest?
- Is the display bright enough to (properly) use it in the sun?
- etc.
cheers,
fd
I don't mind the camera. Though, I upgraded from an aging Sony Xperia XZ1c, so it's has a fair few more features than I am used to. I know that the Pixel line has historically had great pictures due to a combination of lenses and implementation/software. The implementation is where Sony lacks (especially on the Auto side). But... I don't often use my camera, so I don't often notice any issues with the results. It's fine for me!
I have not had much issue with display brightness in sun.. it is noticeably dim, but certainly not unusable.
Depending on your location in the world, you may want to check band support on the device and cross reference with with your country/carrier. The US is limited, the rest of the world may not be as much.
On paper, the Samsung A52 looks better, but I haven't looked much in to it. Around the same price, you may be able to find some deals on a Google Pixel 4a 5g if you want to stay with the Pixel line.
To me, the 10 III was worth it. I don't need flagship features, and the short comings don't bother me. I've used Sony devices for the past 12 years, and appreciate their effort to remain in the mobile space despite lacking sales. I think the 21:9 is pretty cool and works really well for the endless scrolling most folks do. The narrow width of the device is what I like most; it's the same width as my old XZ1c, but a bit taller.
I realize this is all a bit subjective to personal experience, but that's just how it is.
Hope this helps!
I've got this phone almost entirely due to the lack of a notch or some other obstruction to the display, and because of that aspect alone, I consider it worth it. The other good thing is Sony's Open Devices program, of which this device will hopefully be a part soon, opening up the possibilities for Sailfish OS, Ubports, etc. if that's your kind of thing.
But if you don't care about these additional features, then you can probably find a better bang-for-buck device without much effort. Especially if you don't get the wireless headphones deal from Sony.
Can't really say anything about the camera as I don't use it all that often (if it takes pictures, it's sufficient for me). Also not sure about the screen visibility in the sun as due to the pandemic I mostly stay inside anyways (working from home).
I am coming from Xperia XZ1 compact... the 10 III is only slightly bigger, and again a good device for outdoor use. Still water/dust resist, extremely fast and accurate position fix, display is perfectly bright outside, and due to the 12:9 format, you can hold, carry and operate it very good with just one hand. Performance is outstanding, of course - battery runtime is good.
No issues with the camera. Sure you will get an even better camera when you pay three time of what it costs, but for the price I would call it a very good device, worth every penny. Especially, I find the telephoto lense very useful. Sharp and natural pictures.
Magisk is working fine.
OP, I probably go with the Samsung. It supports a shared SD card slot, yes a data drive ie a dual drive handheld is now possible for you.
Used correctly this feature will become indispensable. All critical data goes on the SD card; OS, apps and temporary files on internal memory. You simple backup from the SD card then. When doing a reset factory you can reload everything from the SD card; no cloud, Playstore or PC needed. Hell yeah.
Samsung's are the most customizable stock Androids on the planet. Hundreds of free theme and icon packs on the Galaxy Store.
Samsung's tech support just plain sucks leaches on your ball sack bad though. If you're Android fluent this will not be an issue more than likely.
Sony tech support is no gem either
Samsung's tend to be bright but you should never use a AMOLED display in direct sunlight!!!
Samsung is at top with displays. This one could be a bit brighter... and live a shorter life.
Samsung Galaxy A52 5G Smartphone Review - Another chapter in a success story
The Samsung Galaxy A52 5G comes with a Snapdragon 750G, 6 GB of RAM, 128 GB of internal memory, microSD card support, an IP67 cerfication and a large 4500-mAh battery. However, the main feature of the Korean smartphone is a quad-camera system with a 64-MP main sensor.

Consider a used flagship model in excellent condition. Most Samsung batteries aren't that hard to replace.
Android 11 sucks, Pie is still my preferred weapon. So with a new phone you're stuck with 11 and it's lame CPU cycle eating scoped storage. Pie is still quit secure.. don't buy into the scare hype.

I think it really depends on what to do with it.
For me, the main pro's for the 10 III: Corning 6 instead of 5, slimmer and more lightweight - perfect for outdoor use. With the Samsung, I had issues with the size of my pockets and my hand ;-)

The glass difference isn't much between 5 and 6 unless you drop it without a good case.
With no case don't think Corning 6 will save it... it's still glass.
Both are readily scratched by sand.

2022 Upgrade options? Lost my phone -_-

As per the title! Lost my phone a couple of days ago, had a mate 20x 5g
Back on my old mi max 3 now but should I reorder or is there anything else around?
Needs to be the same size or bigger with 5g dual Sim
I'm not asking for much right
Current UK used price with 2 year warranty is around 300 GBP
There is nothing the same size or bigger that I can find and definitely not 5G/Dual Sim. Best bet is to just buy another one. With manufacturers trying (maybe in vain) to push foldable phones it might be a while before we see another 7" standard phone.

If I were you I'd get the note 20 ultra. Its fast, has a big screen and has better resolution and specs than the 20x.
The 20x is a laggard now. There hasnt been any sec updates since 2020 and will never have one again.
The gravy train stopped running dude. Trust me, you dont want to get a mate 20x going forward into 2022

I agree, but I am looking at a new phone as well and the price difference between the 18 month old Note20 Ultra and the brand new S22 Ultra is relatively small second hand, so I am leaning more towards the S22 Ultra.
It's obviously a lot more money than the Mate 20 X but technology has moved on and the Mate 20 X is now 3.5 years old.
In the Netherlands I can get a new S22 Ultra for €850, a used Note20 Ultra for €650 and a used Mate 20 x or Mate 20 x 5G will still cost me €350 to €400.
There is nothing like this on the market, trust me I've looked. I just got one. It's a rare phone and won't work on CDMA providers. There is no phone of this size, it's the only one with this wide of a screen. The other ones are all the same width, just taller, which is useless. I need it wider for reading, that's the whole point of a bigger display. But all the big phones have the same width as the smaller ones.
I got rid of the Note 20 because it was the same size as my V30, just taller and heavier. Useless for me. Also, this doesn't support MicroSD. I had to get the phone to be sure. It only supports NM cards, which is the same size as a sim card, and it's only available up to 256GB, so you can't get more than 512GB on this device including an NM card, if you have a 256GB internal.
As of now, nothing that I want exists on the market.
xxxxxxx This is not a slow phone. Other phones are faster, but the whole point of this phone is the form factor, and this is still one of the fastest phones on the market.

The Honor x30 Max has a 7.09" screen, which is smaller than the 7.2" screen of the Mate 20 X. The aspect ratio of the Honor x30 Max is 19:9. The Mate 20 X has a 18.7:9 aspect ratio.
Not only are you wrong about your actual statements, but also the Honor x30 Max CANNOT BE ROOTED, PERIOD (mandatory for me). It does NOT have OLED (a mandatory requirement for me). It has no expandable storage (also a requirement). Not only that, but it has mandatory 5G (which I am avoiding for my life).
Smaller, LCD (non-OLED) display. Lower-end phone. Even uses a Mediatek CPU (reserved for lower-end phones)! The Mate 20 X is a huge upgrade over the newer phone.
The new phone is a downgrade on every level - screen, quality, performance, features, efficiency.

Simply put, there is NOTHING like the Mate 20 X with this size or form factor, especially not with OLED, on the market, nothing even comes close. You'll have to get a smaller, crappier phone, or sacrifice the form factor and quality and features to get a faster phone but not with a screen like this.
It's not a perfect phone, but it beats almost every phone in 2022, and competes in line with flagships. Desired features it lacks are microsd (it has nm card), 2K/4K, and high refresh rate. Also being able to unlock the bootloader on the newest OS. Other than that, there is nothing that comes close to this phone considering the OLED screen on this.

Here are the FACTS about the x30 max compared to the mate 20 x. The following is from gsmarena.com. xxxxx

So as I said before, the x30 max is a +7 inch phone which is comparable to the mate 20x. Resolution and ppi between the 2 phones are generally the same as noted. The size again is basically the same. There exists about 4 phones that I know that are +7 inches.
The 30x max may not be the exact copy of the mate 20 x but it holds its own with a huge +7 inch screen which most phones lack. One difference between the 2 is that the x30 max has 64 MP, f/1.8, 26mm (wide), PDAF while the mate 20 x has the 40 MP, f/1.8, 27mm (wide), 1/1.7", PDAF.

How can you get s22 ultra for that price? Its 1000€+ in EU
I owned the mate 20X for more than 2 years. It’s simply the best phone I have had. Recently, I saw some phones that have 120hz. This feature is a must in any phone right now for me, so I searched all the markets with a phone that has this feature with a width of at least 80mm, but I couldn’t find any except few phones like the Honor X30 Max, but the hardware in that phone is not good. The options I was left with were either foldable phones, Iphone 13 pro max, which I don’t like, so I went with S22 Ultra.
The S22 Ultra is amazing. The 120hz is a must now for me. The camera is simply amazing compared to the Mate 20x. Speed is also noticeable, but not to the point that would push me to replace the mate.
Let’s come to the most important thing we are all talking about here which is the screen. The S22 ultra has better colors. The better resolution is noticeable for me too. However, the size is a huge no for me, and I don’t like the curve display. I have both devices next to each other now, but I still prefer the media experience on my mate20x. I am not disappointed with my s22 Ultra, but I still think the Mate is a better phone for media, writing and reading which is more important for me that the camera for example.
There might be a coming phone that may be a good alternative for the mate, but it is still a rumor: Vivo X Note

Second hand sites. These new Samsung phones are frequently part of a contract renewal and then sold on for cash.
BTW I got a Z Fold3. The S22 Ultra was just too boring for me.
I have a note 20 ultra (6.9" screen) I am selling it and moving to a mate 20x I miss mine that much.
The curved screens are trash in my opinion.
