Here is how I got Viper4Android working on my stock rooted S6 Edge. This has been confirmed to work on the original S6 (non-Edge) version (see here).
Try it at your own risk. Also, if you don't know how to rename files, place new files under the "/System/" directory, change permissions, or disable system apps... don't even try to do this. Maybe in the future when we get a true custom recovery we can then create a flashable zip.
Below is what I did to get it to work:
1. Root your phone and install "Busybox". (Search to learn how)
- Example: BusyBox by Stephen (Stericson)
2. Download the latest of Viper4Android APK file and place it under "/System/Priv-app/Viper4Android/" folder. Don't attempt to install it just place the apk in this location. Also make both the Viper4Android folder and apk file have their permission set too 0755 or full access of 0777. ( Permission help, click here )
- Better Option: Alternative download to the Viper4Android APK, attached below. (I personaly use this, and others report better success. This Viper4Android version was originally created and post from this thread)
- Viper4Android Official Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191223
3. Locate the audio_effect.conf file under "/System/etc/" and rename it to "audio_effect.conf.bak". This is to save a copy of original file in case you need to revert back.
4. Download the new "audio_effect.conf.zip" (attached below) and extract the "audio_effect.conf" from the zip to the "/System/etc/" and "/vender/etc/" folders. Make sure the permissions are set to "0644" after dropping the audio_effect.conf in both locations. ( Permission help, click here )
- The "audio_effect.conf.zip" file includes the original stock audio_effect.conf and modified version so you can revert back if needed.
5. Using TitaniumBackup, freeze/disable the following apps:
Adapt Sound 4.0
SoundAlive 3.0
(if you skip the #5 step this install will never work)
6. Reboot your phone.
7. Open Viper4Android. You should be prompt to install drivers and allow superuser access. Do so, and reboot your phone once more.
8.You should be ready to use Viper4Android on your new S6 Edge or S6.
Best of luck!

In case you've never played with Viper4Android or just wanted to try out my effects settings, I've linked them below. In my opinion this can dramatically improve the audio quality with the stock Samsung earplugs.
Effect Profile: S6 Edge 20150402.
NOTE: This is not a flashable zip, you extract the folder into the "/storage/emulated/0/ViPER4Android/Profile". Then use the "Load Effect Profile" from within Viper4Android to get them going. Keep in mind this is tuned to my liking, it may not be great for all... but it's a good base to start from.

Sweet. Can't wait to install this!
It didn't work for me, I did all the steps you listed, and installed busybox before even beginning. I've restarted multiple times, reinstalled Viper too. When I extracted the Viper4Android zip, there were two different apks, one that's 2.xx and one thats 4.xx.

Use the APK called ViPER4Android_FX_A4.x.apk. I've attached the APK I'm using to th OP.
That's the one I used,no luck. was I supposed to extract the zip file somewher?
Edit: on second thought, that may be a different file. I'll give it a try after class, thanks

You sound like you are not taking the files out of the zip. You can't just place the entire zip file in the directory.

I couldn't get it to work, I placed the apk in priv-app and it wouldn't even install. The older apk you posted installs, after installing the app and installing drivers, it still doesn't work.
I have no idea why you can't get the APK to install. That makes no sense.
Installation worked first time....thanks. I changed permissions for each file after copying to proper place just as a failsafe. rw-r--r 0644
Also in priv_app I put the apk inside a folder named V4A. Name is irrelevant though.

Nvm. I think I got it and the drivers installed correctly. Thanks everyone!
Thanks! Getting Viper working for the Edge made my miss my SGS4 no more.
This mod alone is so worth going back to android for. This was my bread and butter when it came to listening to music. People that tried my headphones on couldn't believe how perfect the sound was. Can't wait to get my S6 Edge.
Sent from my soon to be my Galaxy S6 Edge
I can't get it to work. Says busybox is not installed when it is, I have rebooted and everything but viper does not want to install without busybox.
Any ideas?

I've searched all forums for a solution to make Viper4Android work on Nexus 9.
None has been working for me without killing Chromecast support.
So I've made two solutions to make it work:
TWRP, Root and Busybox is required!
As system app:
In TWRP install V4A_2.3.3.0_[Quality].zip
Boot Android and open V4A
(Uninstall and) Install driver
Reboot Android
As normal app:
In TWRP install V4A_Conf.zip
Boot Android
Install SELinuxModeChanger and set it for "Permissive" mode
Install V4A
Open V4A and install driver
Reboot Android
I've testet with Google Music and Wimp.
PLEASE hit thanks if this helps you!
If you're on another Lollipop device the tricky part in making the V4A driver stick, is to manually edit the audio_effects.conf on the "Vendor" partition. V4A only writes to the system audio_effects.conf.

I had to edit the audio_effects.conf file in the Vendor folder to get the driver to stick. Add the lines in Step 6 of the following link: http://www.hacktabs.com/how-to-impr...ity-with-viper4android-audio-drivers-effects/
Leave out the lines for xhifi and look at the screenshot for the location in the file to add the lines.
After you do this, try to add the driver again, then restart.

I reverted to a backup before I flashed the Super Quality zip.
Which vendor folder? The /system/vendor/ folder that the driver creates or the /vendor/ folder in root? And the .conf file in /system/vendor/ already contains those lines. Even then, the driver won't stick.
If this provides more information, I'm using Dilligaf's kernel. But I'm positive that wouldn't affect the driver installation.
EDIT: Got it. I copied the audio_effects.conf in the /system/vendor/ folder and replaced the one in the /vendor/ folder. Driver sticks now

Good to hear. I'm not sure why some people have to add the lines and others don't.
Hmmm... The /system/vendor folder is just a shortcut to the /vendor/ folder on my device, so it should be the same...?
I'm on pure stock and as I see the posts, the ones having problems is on other roms or kernels.

You're right: I'm running Lollipopalooza ROM. That explains it.
Has anyone got convolver to work? The app sees all my irs files in the kernel folder, just has zero effect. Everything else works for me.

I haven't gotten mine to work either. I just noticed it. However, my Oneplus One has IRS working on 5.0.1. It could be how the driver is behaving?

Igothacked said he was using my kernel/ramdisk, I'm not sure what ROM, but the kernel in my boot.img is completely stock, the only edits were to the ramdisk, and I'm positive that would not effect anything with this. I'm not sure about what Roms were being used, I guess it could make a difference, maybe permissions are slightly different or there is a difference with some symlinks with different roms and stock.
Thanks, also working on stock Acer A1-810 too.
I'm also running theLollipopalooza ROM and had to edit the file manually before the driver would install. All seems to be working fine now though. Thanks☺

On my device it works without having the oat-folder and as far as I know the oat-folder won't be created again, because the apk is deodexed ...
I just downloaded my file again and did the whole process again and it still works .
Did you do it (copy the file and set the permissions) via adb?
Could you try it again?
md5 is: 43774a75b358b255ca629c0bfd56e289
md5 is correct, I set permissions with total commander, I did it with root explorer too, the permissions are correctly set (rw-,r--,r--) but camera app is nowhere to be found ... I will try with adb and see
The camera is missing after I did this.
Tried it on Marshmallow, can you help bro?
Followed the instructions carefully. Thank you
Tried via adb, doesn't work as well.
Upon checking the file SemcCameraUI-generic-xhdpi-release.apk its still my default apk and not the one i pushed with adb (the one i downloaded here), the oat folder was still there as well. Pretty sure I deleted it via adb as well and no error showed up.
Update: Tried it again via adb, this time SemcCameraUI-generic-xhdpi-release.apk pushed properly with correct permissions and oat folder deleted as well. But the camera is now missing again. Any ideas? Thank you
I had somehow similar problems that I can't explain ... just copy back your original files including the oat folder and check if its working again (it should) and afterwards try it again. For me it works ...

Hello, what about using Xposed to create a module like the one working for Lollipop?
it would be a lot easier for people instead of replacing files, messing with odex files and It could probably support all the MM releases. If i have some time i could try to do it, but i'm not as skilled as you.
Apart from that, thank you a lot for the work! I've been searching this since ever.

I'm struggling with installing Viper4Android on my device.
I tried installing using either the apk from the original thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191223). It install successfully but I keep getting a driver install prompt, after installing the driver and rebooting.
Things I already tried without success:
- Installed BusyBox with BusyBox app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.meefik.busybox)
- Setting the SELinux mode to permissive using SELinuxModeChanger app (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2524485)
- Setting the SELinux mode to permissive using flashable permissive.zip
- Installing the apk from the Material design Viper4Android thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/app-material-viper4android-2-3-4-0u-t3190352)
- Flashing the .zip from the same thread.
I'm currently running Android 6.0 GPE, flashable version (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708589)
Root access is granted through SuperSU, so no problem on that matter I suppose.
2. With a File Manager(Solid Explorer Recommended) locate " /system/etc/htc_audio_effects.conf" and rename "htc_audio_effects.conf" to "htc_audio_effects.bak" (Renaming this file will make it inactive but while keeping it backed up just in case this doesn't work for you, however it appears this file is not needed as no negative effects occur, and this should fix V4A.)
3. Reboot Device.
And if this doesn't work I thin you should grant storage permission for V4A under settings. I hope I can help you!

Thanks mate!! This worked for me.
Thanks for ur help
Various links in Google world. Some worked. Others had issues. To keep this simple I am going to attach two files to use. This is based on the use of Magisk for rooting your setup. It does NOT work if you are only using SuperUser. The mods that stated how to do this with SU did NOT work for me, so I will not include anything with regards to that. Again, this is working for me with latest just posted Android 7 firmware for my SM-G925T and rooted with Magisk and TWRP recovery installed. Please don't ask if you are not rooted or no TWRP or whatever. They ARE required and Magisk is required too. Plus go to Playstore and make sure BusyBox is installed. I would also uninstall any prior versions of Viper prior to doing this. Or use Titanium BU to delete so as NOT to have competing files. After the above, take the attached file audio_effects.conf and replace the one located in your system\etc folder. The file is zipped simply to allow uploading. This is NOT installable from recovery. Simply unzip to use the conf file. Disregard the backup file in this zipped upload. The .bak is not needed. You will need an app like root explorer to do this. Make sure you set the file permissions the same as the app you are replacing. This is important. Permissions must be the correct same as the original file. Finally...take the attached v4afx_v1.4 zip and install from TWRP recovery. Reboot and should be good to go. If done correctly the left menu in viper that shows driver status will show everything processing, enabled, and working when Viper is ON and music is playing
Added webcam shot showing driver status. A screen shot would remove that window showing driver status.
Do you randomly lose root after this install?

Decide on which version of Android to use. You need to find a recent version of Android that is stable and has the bugs worked out. There are a lot of choices and many still have bugs. For an older phone with limited capacity, I decide to take the AOSP version which is the baseline from Google with no fancy features added. Other ROMs can provide more capabilities but will take more resources of the phone and the more features the more to go wrong.

Other ROMs can provide more capabilities but will take more resources of the phone and the more features the more to go wrong.

My phone is unlocked (not rooted) and worked just fine. This ROM is stable with few issues.
Only H+ speeds and unable to access Google acct after installing 7.12 on Desire Eye
After installing Android 7.12 on the HTC Desire Eye, I am only getting H+ mobile data speeds instead of my former 4g LTE even after changing the APN settings to what I was using previously. Are the APN settings different on Android 7.12 for T-Mobile? I notice there are more options then there was on the stock ROM. I am also unable to access my Google account after updating though am entering my current password correctly. Has anyone else had a problem like this after installing this ROM? Any suggestions much appreciated.
Note:
After rescanning for available networks and re-selecting T-Mobile, I am now getting LTE, no APN changes were needed. Google account problems may have been due to timing out on a bad connection, both are working now.
Try RR rom.

Build 20170905 is without any bugs.
Also don't forget to install aroma gapps (not Pico)

Those issues are only with latest builds because of a kernel rebase. U have to install 20170905 5.8.4 build of RR and always use Tark's recovery to flash RR rom. It has zero bugs. I'm using it with no issues at all. Clean install it and u won't be having any of those issues.

Thanks I assume you mean this one: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=817550096634770683
I will give it a try.
The only issues I have noticed with the AOSP ROM that I used in my guide are
1. A couple of times per month the whole phone will crash and I have to reboot.
2. Luna (Google launcher) goes slow sometimes and I've fixed the issue by deleting luna cache and data but it seems to return after a few weeks usage. I may return to the standard Google launcher.
Not sure if either is related to the ROM. Otherwise the ROM is very stable. But I've not tried the RR Rom so far.

No such issues on RR. Also it's smooth and lots of customization.
I installed Tark's TWRP and was going to try his ROM but when I boot into TWRP (3.1.1.0) I get the following error message and TWRP doesn't see the SD card where the ROM is. Looking on google but not clear what the issue is. Any suggestions?
Immediately after I enter the encryption password "Failed to mount /external_sd" repeated 3 times
When I go into the Mount option it says Micro SDCard (0 MB) and you cannot select
Micro SDCard
USB-OTG
SD-EXT
If I select storage I get
Micro SDCard (0MB)
USB-OTG(0MB)
Use this. https://www.dropbox.com/s/fn8s3z6m7ttb3zk/5_6152376089848053798.img?dl=0
Hopefully u won't face sd issue on this one.
Problem is twrp doesn't recognize extFat and one other format I can't remember now but it recognizes ext4 and fat32 only just try this twrp.
And flash 20170905 build cuz it has no bugs. @challenger07
Thank you for the quick reply. I did try the new TWRP you sent but it was the same. I then tried Arun's TWRP 3.1.1 https://forum.xda-developers.com/dev...t/dl/?id=24849 which seems to be fine. I know you said there were issues with it but at least it sees the SD card. I've run out of time to swap the ROM will have to do that another day but wanted to know why you suggest the one from early September. When I look at the change log it would imply that the November release now has all the fixes in?

Thanks

1st off big warning. Do not use arun's twrp to flash the rom. It will boot loop or not install the rom.
What u can do is format ur SD in a different format that is recognized by Tark's twrp like ext4 or fat32.
2nd why I suggested 20170905 and not 20171111 is cuz 20171111 is build after the kernel rebase and cause of that there is issues with the front camera. This all is already extensively discussed in HTC desire eye telegram group.
Basically, on 20171111 front camera lacks focus and front flash. Even if it's on latest security patch. U can fix the camera issue by flashing a custom boot img but then the Bluetooth would stop working so both are a loss of functionality.
On 20170905 has no such camera issues and everything works fine as it's the build before the kernel rebase.
If u r not too big on selfies then ya go with 20171111
If u want best of everything except latest security patch go with 20170905
