Wifi speed slow, possible phone issue? - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I am not entirely sure if it is the phone or whats going on but I thought I would share in case someone else had similar problems with their note 4.
My wifi speed at home is always slower on my note 4 versus my wifes identical note 4. Both White Verizon note 4s. Other devices such as my laptop and hers all get good speed results. Mine will be as slow as 3mbps when hers is over 10.
I have "forgot" the network, reconnected. Didn't change anything. The wifi setting on our phones are identical. Rebooted, battery pulls...nothing changes. Wifi signal strength is identical.
Called ATT (Uverse internet) and they came out and installed a new wireless router, still no change.
Sometimes when I'm streaming videos with my phone at home on the wifi it just gets crazy slow when all of our other devices are just fine.
Anyone know why this is happening or what I can try to fix it? Short of doing a hard reset which I really don't want to do, is there anything else? It really seems like there is something wrong with my phone?
Thanks for the help

[Q] Weird data speeds when switching from Wi-Fi to 4G

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forums and wanted to start out by asking a question about my phone's performance. A month ago or so, I've updated my T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II to ICS 4.0.4 (Stock Android). Before that I was running Android 2.3.6 to which I reverted from ICS 4.03. Anyway, to make a long story short, I've recently noticed a problem related to data speeds and I know for a fact that it's not a network issue, but a problem with my phone.
Basically, what happens is that when I have Wi-Fi switched on for a longer period of time and then switch to 4G, my data speeds become slower than what they should be on the 4G network. I live in a HSPA+ 42 Mbps market (NYC) and normally get about 15Mbps down on average with latency in the 80s. However when this problem happens and I run a speed test I tend to get less than 10Mbps on average. For example, today I was getting 8.38Mbps down and 1.15Mbps up with a latency of 98ms. Now I know that some of you might say, that I shouldn't be complaining, but just hear me out. When I switched my phone to Airplane mode and then back to mobile data, all of the sudden my speeds were 19.08Mbps down and 2.99Mbps up with a latency of 73ms. It was also tested on the exact same server and only one minute after the first test. I've also noticed that the exact same issue appears to happen when I'm not using mobile data for a longer period of time.
Other than rooting my phone, I haven't really done anything to it, so I'm wondering where this issue could be caused by a bad ROM flash. I'm debating whether I should reinstall the ROM and whether or not that could fix the issue. Just wondering though, whether anyone else noticed this problem with their phone running stock 4.04?

[Q] Is my Galaxy Note 2 defective?

In certain areas (mainly at work) my GN2 cannot access data networks when it should be able to. I've tested it next to many coworkers' phones (mostly iphones) who were also on AT&T's 4g (no LTE in my area) and their phones loaded data just fine. Lightning fast, in fact. My fancy, newer, more-expensive phone tries and tries but does nothing. Its embarrassing. I'll have 2 bars and the 4g icon is there just like everyone else's and mine wont perform. I upgraded from an iphone 3gs which was kinda slow but would at least eventually load data at my workplace. I'm a noob and haven't done anything to this phone other than toggling airplane mode, turning off wifi, and restarting it trying to get a fresh signal. I've been in network settings but nothing in there has helped either. Yes, the reception is bad where I work (one or two bars at the most and spotty 4g) but considering what I paid, I demand this phone get just as good or better reception than an old iphone 3gs. Are Samsung antennas inferior to Apple? Is my Note 2 defective? A dud? Whats going on? I like this phone but need to be able to get online at work.

My house normally has pretty spotty reception, but I've noticed going from a iPhone 4S to the GN2, I get much better reception. I'd say look at your network settings but you say you've already done that (and if it's stock from ATT then I doubt there would be an issue there anyway). Sounds like a hardware issue to me...

Thanks for the input. It is definitely stock. Can a hardware issue be corrected or should I try to get a replacement GN2. I do not have insurance and I'm way past my 30 days.

If it were me, I'd take it to an ATT store and see if there is a way to compare signal strength and/or download speeds with a GN2 in the store.
Same thing happened to me only I'm on T-Mobile I needed a replacement. Call Samsung its free
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2
i noticed this on mine too, i thought it was just poor reception but id only get 2 bars, never really tried different phones though

[Q] LTE/Wifi reception worse?

I'm coming from a HTC Droid DNA, and I've noticed since getting the phone that the 4G and Wifi data connections seem to hiccup when waking the phone. I can't always reproduce it, but I've had the 4G/LTE icon shows up with up/download icons active yet apps hang up on their connections and even speedtest shows poor speeds. It seems as though it sometimes gets better if the phone has been awake/screen on, but that could just be my perception. Overall, it seems that I had better 4G/LTE and Wifi connections with my old phone.
Anyone else have thoughts on poor speeds/reception with their Note 4? Thanks,

WiFi issues on 5 Ghz Network

Hello everyone,
I wonder if anyone has experienced the following problems and if they have resolved them. My Lg G4 is having some serious problems with my 5ghz WiFi network at home. The 2.5 ghz works reasonably well but the speed of my 5 Ghz is more than twice the 2.5. So here is what happens, I am in the room of the router, excellent connection and all of a sudden during browsing facebook/random internet search about c++ programming/linux command the the internet cuts out. There is no internet on my phone what so ever, going to any page yields the same result. I pulled out my laptop and tested the connection on the 5 ghz and 90 megs per second.
If I turn the wifi off and turn it back on the phone reconnects and regains internetability (or the traffic starts going again).
I have tried resetting my phone, getting a replacement, changing router settings - I did everything from removing the key, leaving it unprotected to changing channels to doing firmware updates to no avail.
Has anyone had this issue and solved it?
Wireless on this device is seriously broken in every aspect. I've been battling the 5ghz issue for months now. They (VZW) know its an issue, LG knows it an issue. They credited me for two months but now say they wont do any more and I have to buy a new device out of my pocket. Even went as far as to tell me the G4 doesn't support 5ghz band and that they were sorry that I don't understand how WiFi works. They also refuse to warranty because its a software bug and any additional G4's will have the same issue. So its an issue, but its not an issue...according to them....Totally over it, and their lack of support.
Sorry, I don't have a solution for you, but I can confirm the G4 has 5ghz issues. The LG G2 also does, but much worse.
I have my G4 connected to 5ghz only (802.11ac) at home, and I experience this issue about once a week. (I'm sure it would be more if I used my phone at home more). The traffic all of the sudden just stops. Toggling wifi on/off or just waiting a long time solves it. My two other devices on 5ghz have zero issues. I can live with it because, so far, it has never interrupted important stuff like wifi calls.
Same result here on the 9th device stupid VZW has sent me and the 5ghz still dont work. I still cannot understand how it is that these people sell a broken device and can get away from the lemon laws. It is like a bank all we do is we take in the money and the broken product we sold to you is something you have to deal with.

Slow page loads on Verizon S20+ is driving me crazy!

I recently upgrade from a Pixel 4 to an S20+ on Verizon, and I'm overall pretty happy except for one problem. Web pages, Amazon app search results, Reddit post previews, etc all take a much longer time to load than my Pixel 4 did. The overall speed itself has proved plenty fast via speed tests over mobile data and wifi, and switching between those two makes no difference so I'm confident it's phone related. It feels sort of like satellite internet if that makes sense, terrible response time. I've master reset it, I've tried just resetting network settings, etc to no avail. I'm pretty frustrated at this point because everything else works so well.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
I'm having the same issue with my T-mobile S20+. Coming from the S9+ i never used WiFi at my house because the 4g was so fast. But my S20 shows 5g and it struggles to load web pages and social media to the point where I have to use WiFi. Makes me feel somewhat better knowing its not a carrier issue. Haven't tried switching phones out but thats my next solution.
I used to have issues with 5g in t-mobile. It would show bars and 5g but wouldn't load or take a long time. Since 5g is still new-ish it probably just has issues. Going back to lte always improved everything.
Now i have verizon and tried 5g for a bit and it was similar.
switch from DHCP to static. I did this and switched from randomized mac address as well and it fixed my issue. Mine wasn't speed on webpages but some games were just constantly dropping connection, it was beyond strange.
