I've had a look in the forums and can't find anything that covers this specific question so am hoping someone can help.
I'm currently running the latest CM12 highly build on a Tab S 8.4 and it's flying along. But there's a nagging annoyance that there are still a load of additional apps there that I don't want, mainly stuff like Play Games,Movies and Music and now I've switched to Outlook and the Gmail App, I don't need the standard email app (although this seems to be built into the CM12 package). But I do want things like the Kindle App, Chrome and, if possible, Maps.
Over the weekend I tried to run with just the CM12 build and then add applications from APKMirror. This worked OK with Kindle but Chrome wouldn't install and my tablet seemed unstable so I reverted to the latest nightly plus the gapps package,
So my question is, has anyone done this - just install the CM11 or CM12 build and then get everything else they want through downloading APKs individually?
Answering my own question I found this Minimal GAPPS which gives you a build that includes pretty much only the App Store from which you can then download the additional Apps you want.
It's not what I really wanted to do but is as close as makes no difference.

Couple of questions regarding the latest MIUI on Evo 4G.
First, I haven't been about to figure out why I don't have the Gmail app. Market is included in the ROM install, but no Gmail or Maps, etc. So I flashed gapps-gb-20110828-signed, but still no. I was able to install Map from the Market, but Gmail doesn't show up there.
Later I saw that this gapps version includes a Pacman application instead of the apps themselves, but I don't have that either.
I'm not entirely new at this, I was running CM7 before MIUI and I had a Hero that I was constantly installing ROMs on. Still, I'm sure this will turn out to be stupid-user syndrome.
Also, anybody else using MIUI find data to be awfully slow? I see that there's no 4G support yet, but I keep finding "it's coming" references that are rather old. Is that really coming?
Otherwise, I really like the MIUI interface and would like to keep it as a daily driver if possible.
Thanks!
here you go
I had the same problem today but figured it out. Go to the market, click on apps, then go to "top free". It should be right there.
Today is my first time with MIUI, but after installing the blue transformer theme and downloading Launcher Pro so I can have an app launcher, I really really like it.
It's so fast and responsive and I must say my battery life is amazing compared to the sense ROMS I have ran in the past year. wish I would have tried out MIUI a long time ago.
Oh well, now I love it!
Edit
Woops I put my question in the General section, if a Mod can move it I'd be grateful
I'd like to know if your running stock ICS or a modded and rooted amazon stock rom, or MIUI?
I have tried all and I cant choose what to stay with.
Oh and I'd like to know if I use a rooted amazon stock rom, will tablet apps show up in the play store?
Also, when i download an app from play store to a root amazon rom, will it automatically re size the picture so its more clear in the upper part of the home screen, not the favorites (im not sure what its called, since I had my kindle for a day).
I'm currently running the AOKP rom and I am currently love how you can customize it. I would use the MIUI( since I have it on my phone) but it seems to not have the same theming as the phone variant does.
Not to sure about your other questions but I hope you can get an answer!

Personally, I'm using Hashcode's latest ROM+kernel (this is pretty much 'stock' ICS) - I'll probably switch to Energy in the future, once Hashcode's kernel and Energy's ROM are more "advanced".
I never liked the stock ROM, it feels too constraining. I had it running Go Launcher for a while, but once I tried ICS... there was no going back.
If you do like the stock ROM, it's probably best to give Modaco a go...

Some do, and you may want to watch out: updates to those applications done from the Play Store will break the applications (you can uninstall the updates, so it's not that bad) - still, don't allow Play Store to update the Amazon ones.
If you're talking about tablet applications in general and not just Amazon ones, there are indeed more applications available than there are at the Amazon store, but there are still a bunch that will not show or report not being compatible (even though they are) simply because of the build.prop used in the Stock ROM.
I've only used Carousel/Stock a few hours, so maybe someone else can answer your last question.

I have Hashcode's newest rom on mine too, and man does that run beautifully.
For some weird reason I like the look of the stock rom I dont know why, but thats just me I guess lol.
But yea it is constraining I do know what you mean by that.
So maybe ill play with a stock and ICS rom for a longer period of time to actually choose, since I only had my kindle for 4 days. I'm still learning about my new little tablet

Cool thanks for answering my other questions . Hopefully someone can answer my last question, because I was using Modaco for 30 min before I saw something I needed to try out, and its annoying to see the picture of an app stretched out and blurry on the Carousel

I took a little peak at AOKP and that has a ton of customization to it! I think I may need to try it out
Well I may stay with pure ICS or miui. Stock gingerbread isn't working for me but is there a port of the amazon launcher?
That's the only thing why I like stock, is their launcher.
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium
Hellfire CM9. It's the best Ive used so far.
gedeROM v1.3
gedeROM v1.35 is out but I haven't updated yet.
+1 for gedeROM. I'm running the latest. I've tried all the ICS based roms, and in my opinion, it is the smoothest.
I am currently running ReloadedROM and Hashcode's newest kernel. It is really fast and I get excellent battery life on it. I have been thinking of trying another ROM to see how it compares.
Hash's CM9 with IntersectRaven's 3.0 kernel. I really like whatever tweak IR does to his kernels and have been running them pretty much as long as I've had my Fire
Hi guys,
I have a problem with CM7 on my Kindle Fire. I have done the searching but since I found no one has raised the same issue, hence I post it.
My Kindle Fire was successfully rooted with the CM7. The version is 7-2-0-blaze-KANG
I'm now encountering with the video player.
At the beginning after I rooted and run my very beginning steps on using this device under CM7 ROM cook, it's very fine. It can run very smoothly with MX Video Player.
But after I installed several simple applications (It's "several" 'cause the number of applications only reach the page 3) such as Advanced Task Killer, Facebook, Gmail, Alkido,... (I haven't installed any games), the video is not as smooth as usual.
I don't know what to do right now, 'cause the applications that I installed are simple and necessary for any Android user, I reckon. They appear in every Android device. I couldn't uninstall them.
I wonder that might be a problem with CM7 version that I'm using, 'cause perhaps it's not a fully developed. Do you have any suggestions for me?
1. Install a new ROM (CM9 or another version)
2. Or Go back to the Stock ROM
3. Or This problem cannot be sorted out. I have to suffer (
Any of your help would be highly appreciated
1. Get Advanced Task Killer off of there, you don't need it.
2. Check the decoding settings on mx player, you should probably have it set to software decoding, if not try that.
3. It's probably not something with your rom, but if you want, try hellfire's cm7 rom. It's what I use. I have no trouble with video.
I like mx player, but you can also try bsplayer which I really like, probably even more. Just make sure to go into the settings and use software decoding. Otherwise it can have trouble depending on the filetype/codec you are trying to play. This could be your problem.
Also: Try using FBreader instead of Aldiko, I think it's much better and it has a syncing app you can dl. It's awesome.
Thank you so much for your response since I don't see it much here
1. I install Advanced Task Killer since sometimes it might be easy for me to log out an application rather than keep pressing "back" button. However, I uninstalled it but the video is still unsmooth.
2. I've checked it, and everything is fine. I think it can not be this problem, as at the beginning everything is smooth (I told in the first post). But after I installed several apps, it wasn't working well
3. I think it is the ROM. I now realize that it's unable to play HD youtube on this ROM as well (Vevo is always infeasible). Imma try Gede ICS Rom 1.35 since I received a lot of great compliments for this, having said that there are still minor bugs here.
Thanks for your suggestion on new applications
I have tried to install the early versions of XBMC for Android, both the initial 14 July release and the latest non-neon nightly release.
In both cases it installs and places its icon in the app drawer without any error message on my A100 running ICS 4.03. But when I try to open XBMC, it goes to a black screen for a second, then crashes to desktop without any error message.
Has anyone found a way to run XBMC on their A100?
I installed it on CM10 and it works just fine. Yes, there are some bugs, but it opens and is usable. You could report the issue in its thread (also include a logcat).
It also started and ran pretty well for me on CM10 and jelly time, however there are still bugs as Theonew mentioned. For me it would crash updating my library, granted its rather large with over 350 movies and probably a couple thousand TV show episodes. It would load up 20 then crash, maybe load a few more and crash. I think its not really the size, just a bug it has for now.
Keep in mind its still very new, not even really an alpha, but the xbmc guys work miracles, and I'm eternally grateful someone took the time to begin porting it for tegra devices. Saves me from having to compile it myself
Tapatalked from my Galaxy S II.
I just ordered the 7. I will want to root it, but I have some questions.
Right now I have a rooted Nexus 4, and got a notice for a system update. I looked on CM and can only find nightlies for download.
I'd prefer the stable version. What are CM ROM are people downloading and how stable is it as a nightly? Is there another ROM that might be suitable for a plain jane reference library?
I see about the same for the 7 - No stable version, but a lot of people running some form of CM.
The camera, speed, removable battery and the SD card are the main reasons, plus the carrier (TMO) is switching 2G to LTE and upgrading a lot of other towers, so I will need LTE eventually.
I usually remove most of the entertainment, social apps and widgets. I have a fairly extensive information library - all apps purchased, and all with rather large databases. Every update seems to increase the memory used, so I'd love the extra. I also use the camera.
I also get rid of most of Google. The only Google app I need is Play Store. I don't socialize and do personal info like banking on the phone.
I also won't use the built in apps. I dislike widgets and prefer folders. Yes, I do need a smart phone to run these apps. I run ADW Launcher.
Right now the Nexus 4 is on Android 4.3 and I like it. I usually only update for security. How would I find an equivalent ROM and keep it?
I see differences in battery use and a few other areas.
I also see it is almost identical to the new LG in size - can I use a case for that phone? Like one poster, I want a holster case.
With the sound player - I didn't see the play specs. I assume it does do MP3, but how about AAC and MID?
Thanks
there are a lot of 3rd party ROMs that are stable enough, only have a few non threatening bugs to iron out. Depending on the ROM, it is pretty easy to stay updated with it as they usually have a built in update manager. Look in the 7a forum as most of the builds are unified across the 7a/7s.
The audio question you have is in regards to codecs, not hardware. I haven't personally played those file types, but you shouldn't have a problem.

So where is a unified sticky or post that discusses all ROMS? I do like CM. I'd like to read through it.
