Did it but it went up again after a while. I noticed it happened to my dad's Zenphone too ?
Thats a pretty common issue.
Since you are rooted, try installing Xprivacy on your phone (needs Xposed framework) and deny the play services the right to keep your phone awake. That solves it.
At least this is my app of choice for controlling the privileges of my apps. There are plenty of others out there, just try a web search.
Other than that a simple reboot often does the work too but then again you never know when it occurs again. Also try to disable your location services when you dont use them.
Additionally - Better Battery Stats application will allow you identify what exactly consumes battery most.
Seek related thread on forum.
This happened to me also on both my phones after the recent updates to Play Services. The way I managed to fix it is by uninstalling and reinstalling them.

There are several services in the new Play Services that are keeping your phone awake. With the introduction of wearable bluetooth there are new fitness services that are looking for your wearable devices constantly, disable them and your battery gets better. Obviously if you use fitness bands/trackers then this fix is not for you.
If you have a rooted phone download Disableservice from the playstore, it's a lot easier to use than Xprivacy and you don't need to install Xposed.
Once it's installed, open the system tab, open Google Play Services, then untick (disable) the following:
ConfigFetchService
FitnessSyncAdapterService
GoogleLocationManagerService
GoogleLocationService
NetworkLocationService
ProximitySettingInjectorService
UserPresenceService
WearableControlService
WearableService
WearableSyncService
then reboot your phone.
Disabling these from running should have no impact on your phone, it doesn't for me, and will give you 10-15% more battery life.

I am in need of Android guru assistance. Currently Google Maps app will not update/detect current location and repeatedly request 'Please enable a My Location source in system settings'. Location will only be updated if GPS is turned on (which was not required until this happened)
I have ticked the all the settings under the 'Locations' tab, but still the same occurs. Several apps are affected by this i.e Foursquare (unable to get location), Waze (crash upon launch).
The issue surfaced after I accidentally 'killed' the Maps app using HTC task killer, and tinkered with the Locations Settings under the Maps app.
Tried to return to default values by cross referring to a HTC Butterfly, but problem persist. Anyone has any ideas? Thanks in advance

There is an option in settings to reinstall gps service. Setting > location >reinstall
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Hi Vceck,
I've already tried reinstalling as suggested. Problem still persists. Google Maps (and apps relying on its positioning) will not work with solely wifi/mobile network and requires GPS. It's quite a weird one, since I believe GMaps positioning can use wifi. Or am I wrong?

Hi internetjlmb,
Already did as you suggested, no change. Thanks for the tip tho'.
Now a grimmer issue surfaces -- the 'Maps' app is draining the battery, crazy fast. Unplugged my phone from charger at7.00AM with minimal usage (two short phone calls, no mobile network / wifi enabled), by 8.00AM battery was down to 91%, with 'Maps' taking up 71% of the usage. Screenshot is attached.
I have to disable the 'Maps' app for the time being as everytime I enable it, battery goes down and phone overheats, I kid you not.
Already sent a feedback to Google, but not hoping for any response. Anyone else knows how to solve this predicament? Just to confirm, whenever we 'tick' the 'Google's location service' under the [Location] tab, should it ask any question such as 'Are you sure?' or anything. Mine just ticked and did nothing.

Hi zodiark,
Same issue here. My Location can only be updated if GPS is activated. Which is a bummer. I don't think GPS is necessar to just update location. Or am I wrong on this?

In my case I have two options to enable google location services. One of them asks me to accept the terms of service of google, but again nothing happens.

Same here. Only the 'Location & Google Search' tab will prompt a question when clicked. I had to disable Maps app due to its excessive battery usage.
Hi,
Anyone with a solution to this? This annoys the heck out of me. Is it a phone or Google settings issue?
Thanks.
Issue with recent Google services update
Having exactly the same problem as described by VDread. Folks over Android Central are reporting similar problems and suggest that the problem is with recent Google update and that google is aware of this and that they are working on it.
I was going to do a factory reset but perhaps I settle for disabling Maps for now.
Hi Kreisi,
Thanks for the info. At least me and Zodiark arent the only one with this issue. This however beckons the question : why only some units affected, as opposed to a global scale issue. Hmm.
I have just realized that I am experiencing the same issue. It could also be responsible for the poor battery life on my phone...
Welcome to the club svucinic811. Hope Google / HTC can resolve this soon

Well it comforts me to see that there are others and that this is Google related, and that they're working on it. It would be more annoying in the long run if this was just another messed up update by HTC and we had to wait for the next one, hoping it will make the phone usable (like it was supposed to be). I do however hope the fix will come SOON -- my phone seems to be awake all the time, all the location-related services are non-functional, the battery life is piss poor.
Svucinic811,
Disable the 'Maps' apps for the time being. That has been draining my phone's battery. That should help alleviate the heavy usage -- as the phone tend to overheat even in sleep mode. Weird error. Reports from Android Central says that a certain folder/data was somehow misplaced by Google when HTC phones are updated. Could be a Sense v Google settings issue.

Thanks, will do and see if it helps. It's not like I care about the stupid Maps anyway...I've had my share of nonsense like this, my next phone will be iPhone or a dumbphone.
Yeah, I've read that thread @ Android Central Forums and that "Network Location" app is in the Downloaded Apps section for me as well.
Same problem here. Can´t get a location and the battery consumption is in the highs!
I had to freeze maps with Titanium Backup for now. Are there other devices being affected by this "bug"? Anyone know if this is google side or HTC side?

Apparently also affecting the One, One S and even the EVO.
Some LG phones are also affected. Could be an issue between Google vs ROM settings.
My phone returned to normal after I disabled the 'Maps' apps. The downside is, I can't use Google Now, Google Maps and any apps thats related to those. Even Waze. Total bummer.
According to Android Central (http://forums.androidcentral.com/an...w-keeps-saying-my-location-service-off-2.html), the issue is the recent Google update caused some data folders i.e Network Locations to appear in user's 'Downloaded Apps' folder instead of the Android system.
Factory resetting wont help either -- most have the issue resurface after several hours of use.
Owh well, the issue turned my smartphone to a semi-smartphone.
I seem to not having this issue..
or that's just me that didn't realize it? -_-
although yea i must turn on GPS to be able to pinpoint my location
even if i want to update current location i need that stupud GPS to be on
Hi,
I've disabled my Location and Google Play Services battery consumption reduced.
I've noticed that every time when I unlocked the phone, the system tries to access GPS - I can see for 1 second the the location symbol appears in the notification toolbar.
Previously I owned a G2 and didn't have the issue, with G2 you unlock of the phone and G2 doesn't try to start GPS, the location symbol doesn't appear in the notification toolbar! simple and battery efficient. Not the case with G3. Don't know what stupidity they did or what they've modified.
I don't know if is a Lollipop issue or a bug in LG G3 software.
It is stupid and drains battery fast.
I want to keep the Location active because of geotagging photo information or for using googlemasps. But it is annoying to start manually the location when using this.
I hope there is a workaround to this issue.
Tks
I'm using
5.0
SW
V20f-226-01
only to my phone happens this? or is a global issue?
did anyone experience this issue or I'm the only one?
did someone see this until now?

Not only that you must be root to use the application, but it is not ok in my opinion to have this functionality on the phone.
I get 2-3 days of full battery with location turned off!
With location turned on only 1 maybe 2 days!!! big difference !!!
Still my question remains...
Is this a bug in LG software or it happens only on my phone? and what's the workaround for this?
If you dont have root, have in the world you have figured that Google Play Services is trying to access GPS for one second?

With Location ON it can be seen in the Settings->General->Battery->Battery Usage , that GooglePlayServices eats up to 20% battery when location is on.(daily usage) and as I've said previously the GPS is accessed every time you unlock the phone and go to home screen. You can see it in the notification toolbar the symbol of the GPS is ON for 1 second. I think that is the reason why it eats up so much battery.
When Location is OFF the Goolge Play Services (that includes also the Location Manager) eats up only 4% battery consumption and you don't see the GPS active each time you unlock the phone
From this I figured it out that GooglePlayServices has a bug or the sofware phone has a bug.
Is this happen to others?
how location is working on your side?
Hello...
are you experiencing the same issue? or I'm the only one?
You are the only one.

youp, tks , that solved the problem! I did a previous factory reset but after the new update I have to do it again.
This is not ok. Every time you get an update you must do a factory reset... not so ok.
My battery lasts now about 3 days. Google Play Services eats about only 2-3% of battery.
This is awesome!

Dow you know what is the name of the service?
I've disabled
LoctionWearableListnerService and
LocationHistoryInjectorService
and bug is fixed!
but after some time ... even with this services disabled ... the problem reappears.
It is like some other service is reEnable them again even though in DisableService they are off(red).
Does anyone know what's the service name that should be killed?
It's not Play Services, it's some app that uses its API. For me it was LG Weather app.
I fixed it by setting my location manually in its settings.
is not the weather widget

is this a service or the widget weather?
I've removed the widget from the screen. The same!
Even placed the location manually in the settings of the widget.
Is there other place that I should be looking?
After all it shouldn't be the widget weather app. It refreshes the location in 3h interval.
I've tried also with the ROM fresh installed, with no new app installed still the same. GPS pups up!
Really stupid!
Has anyone fixed this by now ?or at least identified the cause?
Problem SOLVED
Come on guys!
Just go And turn SmartLock (Google) OFF in trust agents in security settings
As easy as pie!
Playing around with DisableService, I've stopped other services that were in use by GooglePlay.
Android system pointed out that GooglePlay has an error and needs to be updated from PlayStore.
I've updated GooglePlay from PlayStore and I don't have this issue anymore!!!
I leave my location ON all the time, I don't have battery drain anymore!!!
I think is a bug in GooglePlay version application that the ROM is coming with.
As soon as you get(update) GooglePlay form playstore, the phone behaves normally.
This way worked for me.
@Mo3ein - I had already SmartLock OFF. It's not from SmartLock
hi i have one m9 with firmware 1.32.709.15 which is an asian version.
i have problem with its overheating and battery.
when i check power usage there is always Google Play Services at the top. when i look at into it i see that GoogleAnalyticsService is running and device is overheating. when i kill this service device temperature became more acceptable and battery lasts longer a lot.
but then this service of course appears again and i have to control always and kill it to use phone smoothly.
anyone with advices will make me so happy.
thanks in advance.
Try downloading this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.wq.disableservice
as there is a known issue with Google play services constantly running. Download this app
and disable systemupdateservice in Google services and see if that helps. You need root I believe though.

What do you want to configure? Please, describe your problem. Can you add your card?
A month ago I had a problem with nfc. Even though my cards were accepted I couldn't make a payment. The issue occurred because of metal ring I put on camera for protection. Removing the ring solved my problem.
Do you have a case with metal adds?
No, I've the included case. I can add cards but Google keeps saying that it can't configure NFC (even if its activated and set by default)

If it's Google then it probably says that you can't use the card in stores not that you can't configure NFC.

Have you tried performing a Wipe data/factory reset via stock erecovery (booting phone while plugged into power and pressing Vol+ until it says it's booting)? Is the phone stock or is bootloader unlocked and running a non stock rom... what rom?
Didn't try factory reset.
Stock rom

App tries to contact my bank, and says can't configure nfc
Than it's not Google, which blocks it, it's probably Huawei. You can prove it easily: install Safety. Net and install any app which can read nfc tag. Try Safety. Net and you should pass. Then try to read any nfc tag and it should be read.
If you don't have nfc tag, install app which can read contactless credit card and try with this.
When you'd eliminate all other reasons, the only one remained is Huawei - stock room. It blocks any request regarding Gpay to bank because it is tuned to its own payment system.
Root phone with magisk, install freeza's modified rom and you'll have Gpay operational.
It's sad... my BL is locked. So Google Pay is not for me.
Maybe with the 30X if it will be out in Europe

Hi Facet,
can you share how you made it work. i am in UK and having the same issue, adding visa cards work fine but cant setup the NFC contactless payment on Mate 20 X AL00 (9.0.0.198) versions.
i wonder if its to do with Google play services, Google pay, google framework...versions?
is there a fix for this issue?
thanks very much for your help

Any update to this? Was wondering if one can add a NatWest debit card to Google pay and pay by NFC in shops on AL00 China phone.
Does any one knows how to reslove the problem with Google play services draining battery? You can see on the screenshot (it's in Croatian - usluge za Google play). I've tried some fixes (cache clear, reinstalling the app, turning off sync...) but it didn't help. I'm using Galaxy S20 Ultra with exynos chipset.
