I'm running rooted stock 4.3 N900TUVUBMI7.
It was flashed back in December 2013 since that was the only way to accomplish root.
I had no interest in KitKat but do want the official Lollipop.
Because I'm rooted I'm unable to even download and successfully install the KitKat update.
Is there a way to update my 4.3 Jelly Bean to the latest official 5.? Lollipop?
If so, how? Can it be upgraded or will it need to be flashed fresh?
If it is a fresh flash, can I just download the official lollipop and flash with odin?
Already have my apps backed up, so it's not the end of the world if I lose them.
TIA!

There is a great thread that was started by TEKHD: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2672393
He walks you through using ODIN to take 4.x.x firmware to 5.0 stock, then additional steps to root, add a TWRP custom recovery (needed to flash a custom ROM), and a few additional things. The link he posts for the actual stock firmware is from sammobile which is a great site but the download speeds are abysmal if you aren't a premium member. Here is a media fire link that I used: http://www.mediafire.com/download/cuoz62g1ca6id9t
Have fun! Btw it is recommended to wipe your device, but I decided not to do that to test if it would work (I had a full nandroid and EFS back up just in case) Stock lollipop upgraded flawlessly and I kept all my apps contacts etc etc... Now im waiting on a decent 5.0 non Touchwiz ROM. I've been using ECHOE ROM which is made for n9005 and is a TW but works with t-mobile as long as you flash a wifi fix. I like Filchis wifi fix. The ROM itself is buttery smooth but im hoping CM12.1 will be awesome with 5.1 lollipop

Thanks for the reply, thread worked perfectly.
Did flash as just an upgrade but it broke my messages. Wiped it and started fresh, no issues so far.
Thanks again!

So a couple of days ago I got a GS3 running the OTA stock 4.3. I wasn't sure if I wanted to use it because I find Touch Wiz kind of clunky. So I decided I would try out Cyanogenmod. I installed it via their new handy installer (as the sprint GS3 is one of the compatible devices). All went well and I got Cyanogenmod 10.2 running smoothly. Now I want to activate the device, but apparently you can't activate a rooted device on sprint. So now i need to get it back to stock 4.3 and I can only seem to find solutions to his problem for devices that have not gotten the 4.3 OTA update and are still running 4.1.2. On the Cyanogenmod installer guide says:
You may perform a full backup from recovery, after flashing recovery (you will have to do this manually, at the moment) and then copy it off the device, if you don't have an external sdcard. If you've already run the installer, you will have to find stock images and flash them using fastboot or Odin.

My problem Is I can't locate any stock 4.3 images with which to try this. If I can get my hands on a stock 4.3 image, would the process be just going into the bootloader and using Odin to flash the 4.3 image?
Can anyone help me out?
You only need to be on a stock tw rom, even if you are rooted it should activate. There are a couple in the development section.

I see, do you know of any any good 4.3 based tw roms? All the ones I'm finding are based on 4.1. Also, do I need to do anything special to flash from Cyanogenmod 10.2 to a touchwiz rom (as Cyanogenmod is AOSP)? I already have ClockworkMod recovery installed.
Nothing special, flash like anything else

[STOCK ROM] Stock 4.3 MK3 ROM [ROOTED/UNROOTED]
I have a VM l710 that came with 4.3. I managed to install ClockworkMod v6.0.4.3 and flashed Slimbean. I had a few issues with Slimbean so I decided that I wanted to go back to stock. But, of course, I forgot to run a back up in CM. I eventually found an OTA update for my phone that was 4.1.2. I installed it and everything works well. Its rooted and I still have CM. I get update notifications every so often but it does not seem to update my phone and now I am stuck at 4.1.2.
Is there a way I can update to 4.3?
Would I be able to find an OTA of 4.3, flash it, and then use knox remover? Or 4.1.2 --> 4.2 --> 4.3 if 4.1 --> 4.3 is too big of a jump?
Sorry if this question has been answered before, I tried google but since I had 4.3 before and now have 4.1.2 I don't want to mess up a bootloader or something.
Thank you
Every custom 4.3 Rom in the development section is Knox free, just flash the one you like.

Thanks. I updated with this ROM.
Everything works well except mobile data. I flashed the recommended modem but it didn't help.
Any recommendations for this?
EDIT: flashed an MK5 modem, everything works now.
DId you update your PRL/Profile? You can also try ##72786# on your dial pad.
Okay, so my phone is currently running 4.4.2 Cyanogenmod right now, I had to find out the hard way that I cant jump back to 4.3 due to the bootloader but will it be possible to install the stock 4.4.2 safely once its released? Or is there a way to go back down to 4.3 that I'm missing..

Don't know how you got the impression you can't go back to 4.3 from Kit-Kat based CM. CM, like most stock ROMs, doesn't come with its own bootloaders but relies on manufacturer's bootloader to run. If you went to CM from stock 4.3, chances are your bootloader was unaffected and still remains at 4.3. You can check what bootloader your phone is on by going to settings and seeing what you have under baseband. If it's UCUEMJB then you have the 4.3 (MJB) bootloader and you should be able to use custom recovery to flash a stock 4.3 restore image.
If history is anything to go by, you would be unlikely to get the (newly released) 4.4.2 update OTA if you are not on a full stock (or stock-based) ROM. I would, however, not be in a rush for OTA as we can always trust the good guys in the development community to come up with a manual update process shortly. If you still want to revert to full stock 4.3, then you can follow the instructions in the thread below ...

Your right!
Used the process you gave me and it worked, I had been trying to use odin but I supose a simpler solution was better. Thanks again!
I just switched from stable CM10.1 to stock 4.4.2 this week. It sucks. Performance and battery dropped drastically. Will be going back to CFW asap.
I have a rooted SGH-I747M on 4.1.2 that can't accept OTA updates as a result of being rooted. Can anyone tell me if there's a way to update my phone to 5.0 stock without losing any data, and if so where I can find a guide? I've searched these forums and google but all the guides I come across are for third party softwares (CM, liquid smooth, etc.)
Thanks!
There is no stock 5.0 for the s3 at the moment.
Since you are still on 4.1.2, your phone probably won't work with any 5.0 ROMs as your modem and bootloader are not up-to-date.
Good to know, thanks for the response.
Cheers.
you can update to 4.4.2 stock. just unroot and odin flash stock recovery. then you can use odin to root again.
I have a Sprint L720 running a odexed stock MK2 rom from circa 2013. I followed all the steps back then flashed a custom recovery and the rom for the hotspot capability and am still extremely happy with how it turned out but... I want all those fancy new features lol. I don't really need anyone to hold my hand through the whole process but I did reformat a few times since then and have a couple questions before I start paperweightin' this.
Everything on here is MK2. Software, Baseband & Build. If i wished to flash a newer lolipop rom to my L720 would I need to apply any updates first? Can I flash the new rom from the custom recovery? I attempted to upgrade the firmware through Kies but keep running into a device not recognized error that I suspect is because I'm rooted. Anyway thanks in advance for your time!
(Mod can you please move this to the correct board, I can't find the option to delete this.)
