Hi
I am running my Nexus with the bootloader unlocked, rooted using superboot and running francisco kernel.
1. I let my device run its battery down so it turned itself off.
2 .I then left it turned off and connected the charger. The Battery icon appeared with the lightning bolt. About 15 mins later I tried to turn the device on (still showing the Battery with Lightning bolt), it wouldn't turn on.
3. I disconnected the charger and the battery with the lightning stayed on the screen. The device still wouldn't turn on.
4. I then pulled the battery, which removed the battery icon, replaced the battery and repeated step 2 & 3 again. The same result occurred.
5. I then pulled and replaced the battery and turned the device on without the charger. The device turned on and had 15% charge. I have now connected the charger and am charging it with Android running.
Is this normal behaviour? It just seemed a bit strange to me?
Cheers
Stewart
From what I've read elsewhere, the offline charging issue is related to the installation of CWM, and it's being looked into.

Ah ok, I forgot to mention that I did have CWM installed!
Thanks for the reply, glad to know that I am not going mad!
Just trying to get my head around this dumb battery charging issue. Seems that some Roms the wife's kindle charges but doesn't say/show anything is actually charging. Some Roms show charging under battery information. All Roms don't show battery charging icon. Also the light on the power button works or doesn't work. Can someone explain all this so I can understand.. Its pretty bizarre.. Thanks
I will try to first give you the short answer then I will make an attempt at the long one. The charging issue is directly related to the kernel.... the long one... the icon will not indicate charging ever... go to about phone or tablet and status plug it in if it still says discharging unplug and replug if it still say discharging reboot then try again.. its common for the light to flicker amber when charging and not remain static at some point it will go green near the end of the charge... bottom line its just the nature of the beast...high usage fast or slow charge erratic indications all part of the animal...

Thanks for the explanation! What you mentioned is exactly what we have been seeing. It does charge so knowing its kernel related thing works for me.
I'm having a similar problem, I know it charges by going to the settings menu. The problem comes from when the Kindle goes to sleep, I always had a light come out of the button, but after installing Jandycane the light wont come on. It's hard to know if it is charging or not, anyone have the same problem?

Everyone has the same problem that's just how it is on JB and I believe ICS roms. The kernel needs fixed, but there are other issues that are most likely higher priority.

I have Hashcode's kernel and have flashed many ROMs. I'm on Hellfire's now . I find that if you charge in TWRP the light acts normal, stays red while charging and turns green at 90%. It may be my particular kf but try it , it might work.

Hello friends how are you, I have a little problem loading the battery. I just installed a stable rom cyanogenmod doing all corresponding wipes; but it happens that when the terminal is off and you plug the charger, the icon of the battery not charging is "hanging" and after that the terminal is completely frozen, only restores taking away the battery and putting it back. The strange thing is that when this load on normally. Can anyone tell me what is happening?
regards

it's a known issue with all aosp/cm/aokp roms that when powered off and charging the phone, the battery charging animation doesn't come up but the battery is charging in the background without any issues. You don't need to take the battery out to restart your phone. All you do is take the charger out and press and hold the power button for 10 seconds or so and you'll see the screen go black for a second before seeing your samsung note II logo and phone will boot up normally.

Thank you very much for responding, that relieves me a bit, I thought I had broken down the terminal. I tested installing a stock rom and it worked perfect, now I see that this happens only when I install a custom rom.
I believe I tried all available CMW for MT7-L09 (MATE7_CWM.img; cwm_mod_mate7.img; recovery_touch_mod_test.img; TWRP_2.8.0.3.img) but only one allows to charge my device WHEN OFF: MT7_CWM_CN_EN.img the one provided by Fooox1 HERE.
When I connect device to charger, the device simply remains off (no battery charging icon, no led), TWRP reboots to recovery; only MT7_CWM_CN_EN.img works fine...
How is it possible? Can anybody charge his device WHEN OFF with some CMW???
Please, let me know...
Ciao Leonardo. When I installed CWM on the occasion on B127 I remember that the icon of the battery during charging with phone off was different. No circle running. Just battery simble filling-in animation. But it was charging anyway. When I re-flashed the stock recovery, circle running icon was back. Still charging properly. But for me, in both cases was charging properly. I always charge M7 when is off.
Hello, year ago I had my phone rooted and installed custom ROM. That was great sollution. Then month later I crashed my screen, so I let it to my local service.
They had to only repair screen, but they installed stock ROM and did unroot. That was 4.3. android. I didn´t care it for four months, then I noticed bigger battery draining. So I rooted it again and installed custom ROMs again. My last ROM was MIUI. I think v5, but I dont care.
Now come my problems - My battery shows me for example 80%. When I opened for example sketchbook, and then google browser, it freezed. Only solution were to remove battery and let it boot up again. When it loaded itself, battery status shows me 0%. I have two batteries and its showing simililar results on both. I decided to install custom ROM and unroot it via ODIN. I tought it will be sollution. But wasn´t.
Its the same problem. I am little bit noob, but I can understand to the basics of this. I think, its a problem in kernel.
One of the my ROM was Phoenix ROM. It had custom kernel insade. Is there posibility, that when I installed new ROM, kernel stood not overwritten?
Thanks for friendly help.
Same here. When I plug my phone to AC adapter, it does not show the charging icon, just the regular battery icon instead. And from that moment on, the battery percentage and battery graph freezes. Even if it charges the battery, I can not see that it is charging or fully charged, not if I reboot it. Once I reboot it, I can see that the battery is fully charged at 100%.
On the other hand, if I reboot my phone while it is plugged in for charging, I can see the charging animation, and the percentage rises up after reboot.
Could this be a bootloader related issue?
I'm on MJ5 bootloader, using a 4.4.2 custom touchwiz based rom. Though I was on a 4.4.4 touchwiz rom recently and was having the same issue.
Only CM based roms works fine. This problem does not occur on CM based roms.
