LED Control
• So what does it do?
Lets the user select kernel specific "charging triggers" for the device's LED which will make it light up when plugged in depending on the specific "charging triggers"
• Why this app?
Well all of these triggers can be set from the command line, but I found it to be very cumbersome and tedious. Motivated by my laziness, I created this app. Although it was intended for the Moto G, I discovered that it would also work on Moto X, E and Nexus 6 too, theoretically on any device which has a "charging" LED.
• Features:
Clean and simple UI (I have tried my best to make it Material Design compliant)
Brightness Slider: Control your 'charging' LED's brightness while charging, if your device supports it. Currently works only on Moto X and Nexus 6.
Set On Boot [PRO only] : Automatically sets the last chosen trigger on a reboot, since the values are reset each time the kernel restarts. Available in Pro version only.
Available triggers: (You may not see all in your device)
While Charging
While Charging through Adapter
Battery Full
While Charging or Battery Full
While Charging (Blnking) or Battery Full
While connected to USB
When Display is on
On Internal Storage I/O Activity
On External Storage I/O Activity
When flashlight (rear LED) is on NEW
When camera flash (rear LED) is on NEW
When Bluetooth is enabled NEW
Always on NEW
* ROOT ACCESS IS REQUIRED *• Instructions:
Grant Root access on first run
Enable the Master Switch
Select a trigger and optionally choose brightness.
Plug in your charger and see the magic
There are different triggers for different devices, so try experimenting
• Screenshots: (from Pro Version) (Screenshots are outdated; will update soon)
NOTE:
This will 'enable' the hidden LED on your Moto X/Nexus 6. This app cannot set it to be used for notifications; it can only use it as a charging indicator.
The Brightness slider will not work on devices where there's a kernel limitation on setting the brightness- specifically the Moto G and Moto E.
Moto G and Moto X in this whole post refer to 2013 models only, I have not tested on 2014 models.
The app is tested and confirmed working on Nexus 6, Moto G, E, X and Droid Ultra/MAXX. However, it may also work on a Motorola phone other than the above, so give it a try, can't hurt

P.S: Since I'm utterly new to Android/Java programming this app took me several hours spanned over several weeks to build. But it was an awesome experience and I had a heck of a time coding it. :good:
I look forward to making more apps in 2015.
• Reporting Compatibility: If this app works on your device, and its not among the ones mentioned above, please reply to this thread with your device's details or send me a PM.
• Source: This app is open source too! Grab it on Github here. Feel free to take a look and suggest fixes to imperfections, if any.
• WARNING
This app has the potential of blocking your notification LED if you use a Moto G/ Moto E (a separate LED blinks just beside the dedicated charging LED but you might not notice it).
Please be aware that I (KDB223), nor XDA nor anyone but you yourself are responsible for the consequences of you missing an important notification due to this app.

Thanks for the updates. I have created a Tasker profile that starts your app when I put my phone in it's dock, coupled with certain other conditions (being connected to my wifi too). When creating the exit task to kill the app when I remove from the dock, I have to use root.
Just info for anyone else considering a similar approach.

change log:
+ you can move counter down from 0 to 255 pixels (to set it at desired height)
+ result is saved into db every ~0.25m
+ better aproximation for different than 240dpi - should be universal now
+ optimized size, now only 25.8KB (not necessary graphics was removed)
PS. Still tested only on GSG2, the rest working phones you can find in comments of this thread.
Very interesting Idea I'm surprised nobody as replied in the post.
I'll give it a try and see if i can think of any ideas to improve and add to it
Thanks for sharing your work
Thank you for any fedback,
I would like to see how it "counts" on other phones and dpi resolutions
I have SGS2, 240dpi and it counts quite well (with my approximations for SGS2)
I think there will be needed some more calibration for other phones,
but we'll see
Thanks!
V.
I am finishing my day with result as follows:
How about you?
From my firsy day impressions I am thinking about additional:
- history
- charts
- suprises after predefined distances (100m, 1000m, 42km! and etc.)
- self choosen image as a background
- on/of switch for background scrolling
Thanks for all feedback!
V.
I'm curious as to whether or not this might be better as a widget; it might cut down on CPU/battery usage, but I'm no expert. It's a great idea though, I bet we'd all be surprised just how far our finger travels...
Would love to see it as a widget too! Live Wallpaper is a bit tricky 'cause we like our wallpapers too much, to remove them "forever". Great idea & great job on this one!
On my todo list so far I have put (prq order):
- more fonts
- possibility to change location of "counter"
- calibration
- widget ( it need completly new code )
- suprises after predefined distances (100m, 1000m, 42km! and etc.)
- self choosen image as a background
- on/of switch for background scrolling
- history
- charts
- check with non standard launchers
That is a really neat idea!
Great work mate.. Will thank you

PS. As it the first apk was initial it has no db saving function so You will loose your stats, but from v01 it will be stored in db so resistant for reinstallation, this db will be later used for more detailed stats.
Finger trail would be cool to add to this.maybe make the font huge to so it's not so plain. And what about user wallpapers?

The only exception for a paid app being posted on XDA is if it is identical to the free one, then we see it as a donation rather than making money.

Bit of feedback: It's a lovely app. Easy to use etc. However, the app seems to close itself after a while thus i cant access the bar. Also i'd like to see movable icons, as I'd like to have the flashlight at the left instead of all the way right.

What is this?
Basically by installing this application, as soon as you receive a notification, the front flash of your phone starts blinking as it were a notification LED.
It can be useful to all those (but not only) that have a device without the notification LED, but instead have a flash next to the selfie camera.
It also extends the concept of notification to the unread badges received from the applications (e.g the "Facebook like"). So, when an unread badge occours, in the same way as a "normal" notification the flash starts blinking and you will be notified of what's going on.
Various settings are also available to better configure the application to suit your needs.
It works on all devices equipped with a front flash, regardless of whether or not it has the hardware notification LED.
Tests have been performed on Samsung devices, in particular but not only on the J series.
More information, detailed specifications and the download link in the main thread
FrontFlash Notification
Just an update for Exynos chipset based device users... the front flash detection issue is not related to the chipset.
For some strange reasons (don't ask me why), on the new devices series (Exynos of course), Samsung has implemented only partially the Camera2 API for the developers. Hardware level: LIMITED (partial Camera2 support)
This is why at the time been my app can't use the front flash on your device.
In the next few days I'm going to produce a new 1.7 version, where if Camera2 fails the app takes control over the camera and his front flash using the old Android API.
Based on the first tests, fortunatelly this seems to fix the problem.
Keep in touch

Hi thanks for your feedback.

And yes, feel free to share or include this app in your Script, only take care to use the latest store release.

Am I stupid or is it not possible to change the brightness like with the back flash for the flashlight? I feel like I'm being flashed with one of those defense flashlights every time the thing goes off.
