Could use some adivce - T-Mobile HTC One (M8)

So I was recently running Viper M8 3.2.1, with at the time an HBoot of 3.19. Yesterday I went up to ViperM8 4.0.0 without upgrading the HBoot/Firmware. Now all seems to be running fine but since flashing the newest Viper Rom I have been wondering if I should have also upgraded the firmware. Any thoughts, do i need to, any advantages on going up to newest firmware?

For the best performance out of your device you should always be on the latest firmware..I have never seen a case where being on lower firmware has benefited. IMO

[Qn] Android Revolution 6.0 compatibility with 1.28.707.10

Hi all,
HOX is my first android phone and I am totally new to Android.
My HOX is still on 1.28.707.10 (still current, no updates for 1.29) and as such I am unsure if ARHD is compatible with it. The ARHD thread shows it is for 1.29 so I kinda conclude that ARHD is out of reach for me. If anyone can clarify, it will be great!
Cheers.
P.S. What exactly does RUU stand for/mean?
Hi alucarde,
You can absolutely use arhd. You would be completely wiping your current version by flashing it, basically replacing a 1.28 stock with a 1.29 arhd.
However the one thing the rom cannot contain is the radio firmware, which can only come from official channels while the phones are s-on. So if you root and flash, you'll be locked into the 1.28 radio firmware until you relock your bootloader. Not a big loss, and definitely worth it for the improvements you get from a root rom. This is why the arhd poat recommends updating to 1.29 before flashing it.
My phones radio is atull stuck at 1.26, since Vodafone au don't seem to have an ruu. Arhd has run fine on it
Btw not sure what ruu stands for, but it's essentially a package that contains the original carrier rom from your phone, and when run from your computer will completely revert you phone back to factory unrooted state. Pretty much the ultimate failsafe.

Hi there, welcome!
Yes it's compatible, it will be upgraded to 1.29 since ARHD is based on 1.29.
Regarding the term RUU : google it and you'll find it quickly.

What they said. It is not 'for' 1.29, it IS 1.29.401.11 with tweaks.

[Q] Is it possible to flash stock ROM from a different region without S-OFF?

Title says it all, is it possbile to flash stock ROM from a different region without S-OFF?
Not very familiar with these things, but reading around it seems I need s-off for flashing a ROM from a different region, which is not achieved yet
I'm currently using a Telecom HOX from NZ, and the software version is still 1.26.781.2, seeing other people already having 1.28 or 1.29 OTA updates, and even a newer 2.05.401.2 with Android 4.0.4 is coming out is very frustrating.
I really wish I can flash to a stock from from TW.
Anyone can help me?

No, you need S-OFF, and if you want to keep the phone in warranty by keeping the stuck ROM then your only option is to go with that old version...
But since you brought up the 2.05.401.2 those people are not using stock ROM, that's a test version and comes only as custom rom, if you have unlocked your phone already, then you can use custom ROMs with any version you like...

Really???? that is one of the main reasons I want a newer version, I heard the updates slightly fixes battery life. So far just using wifi for 5mins can drain my phone up to 10%

[Q] Flashing ROMS and having S-ON

Hey guys, i just flashed my M8 using vomer's Guide, everything went great except for the S-OFF part, firewater didn't work on my variant (T-Mobile Version), i was just wondering if it will affect my phone in any way while trying to flash a custom rom, right now im looking at flashing Skydragon's GPE or Sense version
You can still flash roms with s on, just not do the GPe conversations
The ones known as RUU right?
If you flash a Sense 2.22 based custom ROM, its recommended that you flash the updated firmware package (S-off required) or else wait until the 2.22 based OTA rolls out for your version (which will include "official" firmware).
If the updated firmware is not installed, 2.22 based ROMs will usually cause some major bugs, like excessive long boot time, broken WiFi and Bluetooth, etc.
S-off is usually not "required" to flash a ROM per se. This is an exception where the older firmware modules (not included in the ROM itself) are not playing well with the newer based ROMs.

You can always try it and see. I'm not sure if 100% of folks will have this issue (if you do not update firmware), but others have said you will "probably" have some major bugs.
On the other hand, if you are s-off and already have fastboot setup on your computer, the process to update firmware takes maybe 5 or 10 minutes.

Not completely certain, you should read/search the Skkydragon GPE thread, or maybe somebody who knows can chime in.

i just found out that they have a separate version for the T-Mobile variant, maybe thats what i will install, on a side note, do you think it would be a good idea to take the plunge and pay for the sunshine method to gain S-OFF?

Its very much a personal choice. It you want the freedom to be able to flash firmware packages, radios, etc. at will; and $25 is something that you can afford to give away, then I'd say its recommended.
I had the luxury of being able to s-off earlier on for free, with firewater.
Well, I'm s-on and I've already had gpe edition installed.
Sent from HTC One m8, or maybe not anymore

The Skydragon version or the stock version?
I can't remember which gpe rom I've tested, however now I'm on stock based skydragon 4.4.3 (not redbull edition, as it was too much overclocked).

If the 2.22 firmware is all you want s-off for, probably not a bad idea to just wait for the T-Mobile OTA rollout. Then you can just install the new firmware "official" OTA way. Once the firmware is updated, you should be able to flash whatever you want with S-on.

That's all i want it for, maybe it is a good idea to wait for T-Mobile to roll out the update, anyway, i flashed the Skydragon GPE ROM yesterday and everything is going fine, i have yet to test battery life, since today it's my first day of use, but everything seems to be running fine, thank you for all your help.

[Q] [HELP] Very long boot time

I have always used Viper ROM and I upgraded to 2.01 once it came it. Fooshily, I did not upgrade the firmware (noob, not a newb) because I couldn't figure it out. I finally got it downgraded to stock, then did the OTA to upgrade the firmware. The phone started flawlessly until I flashed Viper 2.01. I (luckily) backed it up before this time and tried flashing Android Revolution. I still had long boot times. I understand most of this stuff, but I always seem to run into problems. Any ideas on how to fix this?
Tampered
Unlocked
S-ON (couldn't get this)
AT&T
Early model, possibly release
I'm at work now but I could post more info later. Thank you, everyone.
Also, I would prefer to use Viper, if that matters.

Switching from Android Revolution HD 12 to viperonem9 questions..

I recently switched from my stock unrooted HTC One m9 to to the Android rev rom (see:http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/development/rom-android-revolution-hd-3-0-art-t3068820) and have encountered several problems, such as freezes in gallery, phone heating a lot etc. So I've been wanting to switch to the viper one m9 3.5.0 (see:http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/development/rom-viperonem9-1-0-0-tweaks-hub-t3072773) , will I need to download some other things, or do I just flash the rom thru TWRP?
And if I perhaps want to go back to stock, how do I do that? I didn't know what a nandroid backup was at the time....
Sorry for the probably dumb question but I'm scared ****less about bricking my phone.
Thanks.
Im presuming you didn't update the phones firmware with the update to android rev, that might be responsible for the issues you are having. If so you would have same issues with viper.
But that being said, firmware flashing is a bit trickier without the phone being s-off also http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/development/firmware-t3068243
