First let me say thank you for your time and help while also explaining my situation. I am a newly android convert and got in over my head trying to convert my M8 to the google play edition. I followed this guide here running through the steps of unlocking my bootloader, installing SU, TWRP which led me to the step of S-OFF. This guide had me flash the insertcoin rom which I did successfully but then when trying to obtain S-OFF with firewater I realized my HBOOT version was too high. I counted my losses but later the same day, this first day my phone arrived one of my pixels died. So now all I want is to return to stock and obtain the relock status at least to return my phone. Sadly out of my ignorance I didn't make a nandroid backup of my original before flashing insertcoin though. I've looked everywhere and am lost but fond this site with stock nandroid backups but can't seem to find the one for my device since my CID isn't there and also when I run the command to find my Main-version it returns blank, no MID. Below I will include information that may be relevant to aiding me. Thank you again for your time and let me say that this mistake has made me learn a valuable lesson, read everything before flashing >.<!

It must be the same as VODAP001 so x.xx.161.x
I would suggest to take a nandroid of your current setup and flash the stock 1.54.161.10 rom and stock firmware and relock bootloader.
I believe you will be ok but in case of any problems you have your nandroid to revert.

Thanks so much for the input, I will give it a shot. Before I do though mine is 2.22.401.4 so x.x.401.x. Is that compatible with the x.x.161.x? I'm unsure how it works. Also are you sure flashing another version won't brick or harm my handset? I have a nandroid backup so as long as it won't brick it and I can restore my nandroid backup I'll try it. Again, I appreciate the help and wish you the best!

2.22.401.4 is what InsertCoin rom is based on.
From your getvar output we see that your CID is (bootloader) cidnum: VODAPE17 so if you want to return to a stock rom you need a VODAPE17 rom which is x.xx.161.x

As your first post said I tried flashing the VODA001 nandroid backup. I just kept receiving a failed to flash error. Is this normal when flashing a different CID? I don't necessarily want to have it just the way it came just enough to where it isn't custom firmware and re-locked. Sadly I cannot find a backup Nandroid with the CID VODAP17 so I don't have many options. Is there anything you would consider? Is there possible a different CID I could flash? Also how did you figure out I needed one with x.x.161.x, I don't see that in the getvar? Again, I appreciate your help and time you used to provide it. Thanks!
Vodafone variants like:
cidnum: VODAP001
cidnum: VODAP102
cidnum: VODAPE17
cidnum: VODAP405
cidnum: VODAP304
cidnum: VODAPD18
cidnum: VODAP120
cidnum: VODAP110
are x.xx.161.x that's why i suggested to flash a VODAP001 stock rom since i couldn't find a stock rom for VODAPE17 which clearly failed
Unfortunately i don't have any other solution for you.

I ended up attempting to restore from the VODAP001 again and for some reason it worked this time. Restored the recovery and re-locked the device. Sadly I couldn't remove the **Tampered** flag since I'm not S-OFF but I returned it anyways. Seems like everything was fine and I should be receiving a replacement in a few days. Thank you so much for your continued help and for not giving up on my cause. I really appreciate your time and effort, you are the type of person that makes this community so great. Thanks again!
Hallo,
I have a HTC One M8 (bootloader unlocked, twrp recovery, rooted, S-On, android ver 6.0, HTC sence ver 7). Unfortunately, it stops from almost a week recognizing my Sim-Card.
When I check the Baseband and IMEI numbers under "Phone Identity", it says "Unknown".
But, If I reboot into Fastboot, and use the command: "fastboot getvar all", it shows that I have an imei number. ?!!
My question, what is wrong with the device. How I can fix the IMEI number. Do I need to get S-Off, and if yes, how i can do that.
Thanks.
have you tried to flash RUU if it's available for your device variant ?
if you didn't then post the result of fastboot getvar all ( after removing serialno and imei )

I could not find any RUU.exe for my device. But I flashed HTC_M8_twrp_DE_ota_6.12.401.4 through TWRP recovery, which did not solve the problem. I still have Baseband and IMEI as unknown.

follow this post instruction ( all of it and don't miss a step )
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64926626&postcount=6
this will help if your problem is software related
if it doesn't then most defiantly it's hardware related ( let's hope it's a software )
BTW you don't need s-off

There is no reason to think that a TWRP backup would fix this. TWRP backup is just he ROM (system) partition and doesn't include radio or other firmware partitions.
RUU is what you need, as it will re-image the device with all factory partitions, including radio baseband, and other firmware.
Hi there,
I have the exact same problem with my htc one m8. My "fasboot getvar all" is identical with the one posted here, only these are different:
version-main: 6.12.111.4
cidnum: T-MOB101
......everything else is completely the same.
Hope someone can help me. I was unable to find RUU for this version. Thanks in advance!

Are you sure? Because it would be really unusual to have a different CID and main version, but the same radio baseband number. I suspect the baseband number is actually different.
Do yourself (and us) a favor and just post all the getvar data (this time, and when asking for help in the future). It's easy to copy and paste; and probably much easier/faster than trying to explain what is different, and what is not - plus remove all doubt like the one above. If you don't know how to copy and paste in control prompt, right mouse click on the window, select "Mark" then highlight what you want to copy, then press Ctrl+C. Then in a post, just right mouse click and select "Paste".
As always, remove IMEI and serial number before posting.

This M8 of mine is bought from german operator named "Telekom" and it hasn't been network locked. I've unlocked the bootloader and installed TWRP for the only reason that my original software crashed and I wasn't able to find official one for that model. I've found however a nandroid backup for my version and restored it through TWRP and all went fine for a month until my sim suddenly stopped being recognized (few different sims from friends of mine also were tested with the same result). *#06# gives me blank space, but on "fastboot getvar all" IMEI comes up. If any more info needed please tell.

Radio baseband mostly same for most M8 except the radio config data is different for each CID

You can try flashing the htc signed firmware for 6.12.111.4
Most of the time this will fix the problem.
You can get the firmware in my backup thread linked in my signature on post #5

So what it the problem? The subject of the post is "no baseband, IMEI unknown" which is clearly not the problem in your case.
You also need to give some background. Was the phone modified in any way? The main version (4.34.401.1) looks weird, as it isn't expected to go with your product ID (m8_ul), MID, CID, etc.

Flash what? You want the stock ROM or RUU? Or you want to flash a custom ROM?
I'm guessing that English is maybe not your native language? Regardless, you are going to need to try harder to explain what you want; and what your problem is. It seems completely unrelated to the thread topic, so it's very confusing trying to figure out what your issue is, and what you are trying to do.
We also need to understand what you have tried to do to the phone so far. Please describe, step by step, in as much detail as possible, with specific file names, sources you used, etc.
You've basically only posted 2 sentences, along with cut and paste some phone info. And while the phone info is useful to see the current state of the device, the 2 sentences you wrote, don't do much to tell us what is going on, and what you are trying to do.

@ckpv5, if you have a chance, can you please take a look at this? I don't recognize that firmware number as being associated with the CID/MID. But I know you have a much better handle on the firmware numbers, CIDs, etc. So it may be some variant I'm not remembering.

That firmware indicates the device is M8_UHL for Middle East which run on 2.5Ghz as the Asia version. Normal EU is 2.3Ghz.
He needs the lollipop which I don't have in my backup thread. Only have 6.21.401.1 - backup, stock recovery & stock firmware.
We don't know if the device LOCKED or UNLOCKED. If unlocked then can try to restore 6.21.401.1 backup then flash the firmware. As his problem is "htc decrypt storage" I'm afraid it is emmc problem. If it is unlocked, then can format data (not wipe) in twrp to fix it.
Edit : Guess he's a lucky guy. There is RUU available for free

I figured that might be the case (one of the less common versions, like Middle East) but can never remember that firmware number. CID can apparently have 2 MIDs (0P6B10000 and 0P6B67000), so that threw me off, as well.
Why wouldn't the product ID say m8_uhl in getvar?
Thanks for replying and helping out, as always!

0P6B67000 has only 2 CID HTC__001 & HTC__J15
No idea why ... some M8_UHL devices are HKG, India, Australia & Some China version but getvar show only M8_UL
Just for info :
M8_UL - WCDMA / GSM / FDD-LTE
M8_UHL - GSM / WCDMA / FDD-LTE / TDD-LTE

Yeah, I see that from your TWRP backup thread (which I reference frequently). What confused me is that CID HTC__J15 can be MID 0P6B10000 or 0P6B67000.
Thanks again for clarifying.
Hi @redpoint73 @ckpv5 i have the same problem like few members above but might be a little different, my device stop detecting sim and other systems started to crash and stop working, It all started after i did the offical OTA software update for 6.0 but it dident install properly with giving the error at the end and reverted back to the old version.
I have unlocked the device to install a custom rom andriod 6.0 to fix this problem but it mad e it worse the rom booted but sim is still not recoginzed and nor the wifi is working that i think is due to the firmware being old.
After reading and serching i found your thread and this represented all the problems that i was facing so i fallowed your thread. i relocked my bootloader and tried to install the RUU 6.0 that you provided to the but that also failed saying varifing few ( version/ serial i do not remember didn't take a screenshot ) failed.
now i have thought of installing the RUU from the other meathord you mentioned in the end of that thread using the AruwizardMM.zip.
do i have to re unlock the bootloader or should i keep the bootloader Relocked status.

Which RUU? Two different RUU have been provided in this thread. You should reference the version number, file name, or post you got it from; otherwise we have no idea which RUU file you tried.
You want the one linked in Post#4: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70838762&postcount=4
If you tried the RUU from Post #15, it won't work for your. It's intended for the Middle Eastern version, and since your CID and MID do not match what the RUU is looking for, it will fail (as intended by HTC).
RUU will fail for wrong version. It doesn't check the serial number, and will not fail from that. On that point, you should delete your serial number from your post. It isn't needed to solve your issue, and it is personal info, which should not be posted online.

You do not unlock the bootloader to flash RUU. In fact, an unlocked bootloader will cause RUU to fail (not flash). RUU requires a locked or relocked bootloader when s-on.

Your MID is actually irrelevant, as it is being bypassed by SuperCID (11111111).
Is the phone rooted? Does it say software modified (and/or tampered) in bootloader?
Restore the TWRP backup for 4.18.708.12 (for CID HTC__622 although you should be fine staying SuperCID) and corresponding stock recovery using the following thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
After restoring to full stock ROM and stock recovery, the update for Marshmallow should come through.

Now you're asking a completely different question. Before it was simply update, not it's install GPE.
It's not clear what you mean by "install GPE", as that phrase is vague and can mean different things. Do you mean flash the ROM, TWRP backup, RUU?
If you mean GPE RUU, yes it should work. However, it should be noted that this will change the radio baseband, which in turn will also change the bands supported.
Also note that RUU will wipe the phone, so backup anything you want to keep (to off-phone location such as SD, cloud or computer) before RUU.
Hi, I recently s-off and changed my CID to HTC__001 and the installed a backup and stock recovery of 4.16.401.10 all went great and I got the next OTA update 4.16.401.13, why would I not be getting the next OTA through for 6.12.401.4.
I will say that the next sence update is coming through but I get an install error, would this be stopping further updates?

Could it be possible this constant bootloop problem I'm having when trying to update to marshmoallow is hardware related?
Thank you again and look forward to a reply

Download this
Rename it by deleting everything in the name of the .zip except for 0P6BIMG (and .zip of course) and place it onto your extSD (make sure it is formatted to FAT32 ~ if it is 32gb or less it already should be)
Boot to bootloader and follow the onscreen prompts (vol up to confirm the flash ~ power button to reboot when it's done ~ super easy)
After you are updated, delete the renamed file from your SD card. If you don't it'll try to update again every time you boot to bootloader
Good luck!

I tried the update in the way you described (thanks) but still when booting for the first time I get stuck at 'android is starting, starting apps'.
Something I did notice during the update was the following steps were bypassed. should I be concerned about this or is it normal?
please see attachment.
Okay, I think I found the RUU exe file for my device. But I have this problem where it just stuck at Updating... (1/1) Sending...
I'm the RUU file - RUU_M8_UL_M60_SENSE70_ATT_MR_Cingular_US_6.20.502.5_combined. I don't know if I need to be in Unlock/Lock/Relock state of bootloader.
modelid: 0P6B12000
cidnum: CWS__001
Any help would be appreciated.

Correct bootloader state to install RUU would be locked or relocked (unless you have s-off, in which case any bootloader condition will work).
Since the RUU is stuck updating, I believe this usually means that security checks (bootloader locked, MID and CID check, etc.) are already passed. The RUU simply got stuck. If you haven't already done so, it should typically be okay to disconnect the phone, kill the process, etc. and start over again. A lot of times, simply trying the RUU again, will do that trick.
Otherwise, you may need to try another USB port on your PC, another cable, or even another PC. RUU can be quite finicky with the PC setup. It also must be a real PC (not emulated Mac, etc.).
If you also know how, please do fastboot getvar all, and post the output (delete IMEI and serial number before posting) so we can see the details on your phone. In some circumstances, how you determined the MID and CID may not actually be getting reported correctly (you didn't mention how you determined these, getvar all is the best and most accurate way).
Hello guys,
I have an HTC one m8 , I have been running a rooted device with custom rom which has been working terribly on my device...Now I want to return to stock rom, I have relocked bootloader and it's on s-on...I have tried out diverse RUU but all seems not working...I'm always getting this error in the process "rom update utility cannot update your andriod phone"" which i guess the ruu's have been using are not compatible with my phone...I would so much appreciate if anyone can get me the RUU executable file for my device that will be compatible with it........ Here is the fastboot getvar all details....Your prompt responses will be appreciated
