[Q] Lollipop OTA Headphones Disconnected - T-Mobile HTC One (M8)

Hi guys. I updated my phone to the latest Lollipop OTA update on 2/10/15. Everything is working great, but I get a Headphones Disconnected message that pops up every time I reboot or power off and power on the phone. I don't have any headphone plugged in, and I removed all Bluetooth pairings (and turned off the Bluetooth). Is this a minor bug? Anyone else seeing this?
mhajii210

I do as well. Well actually, when I was on the international ROM, bit haven't noticed on T-Mobile version, but yeah...

Factory Reset
Thank you for the reply! I did a factory reset and the issue has been resolved. I believe an app that was previously installed somehow messed things up. I suspect it was DSP Manager since it no longer works on Lollipop (at least the version I had installed).

[Q] Problems with headphone volume after froyo update

This is a post I found after searching for my issue regarding headphones volume problems. I couldn't find anything anywhere on the XDA Forums. Please see my response at the bottom, and any help would be gratefully appreciated.
Ok so I went ahead and upgraded my mobile with the OTA update that has showing on my mobile. I wanted to upgrade ASAP due to the fact that I have run out of space for apps on the internal memory and this upgrade will resolve it (apps can be moved to the SD card).
However I think I may have jumped the gun as now whenever I use headphones the volume is stuck at max and even when the phone software says the volume is silent it’s still blasting out! Unfortunately spotify doesn’t have an internal volume control at all so it’s a no go there too.
I’ve had a search on Google and it looks like people are not experiencing the exact same issue, however there are a lot with issues with the volume in some way or another.
Hopefully this will be fixed pretty quickly as it now makes the phone unusable as a media player and I have to go back to using my iPod.
UPDATE: After searching for a resolution to this and not coming across anything much I managed to find someone saying recessed headphone jacks are quite problematic. The Desire doesn’t actually have a recessed jack but I do use a silicon case that makes the jack a bit recessed. This has not been a problem before, but I thought I’d give it a go without the case. Low and behold the volume buttons seemed to be working fine. I thought this was a bit strange so out the case back on and what’s even stranger is that is still worked fine. Now I have no idea why this happened and to me it seems a bit strange that this would even cause it in the first place (I would assume that it would be lower in volume or only one channel). Unless of course I came across a bug that has a 1 in 1,000,000 chance of hitting. Anyway I’m glad it’s working now!!
My reply:
Hi, I'm having the exact same problem after doing the froyo update. I too searched everywhere but found nothing until now. Unfortunately removing my case doesn't resolve the issue. I thought it may have been ROM related issue, but after trying several different ones the problem still exists. The strange thing is this has only started happening over the last week but I've had froyo for 4 weeks now! Can anyone out there help me ???
I had the exact same issue on the OpenDesire ROM after I flashed a file. The headphone volume was deafening every time it was on with no way to turn it down. But my issue clearly started when I flashed the DSP Manager file floating around. When I switched back to a clean ROM, the issue was no longer there.
I also experienced the issue when I moved between ROMs and updates of ROMs without full wipes. Even when I moved from stock T-Mobile to stock HTC, I experienced the issue. The resolve was simply doing a full wipe.
On HTC 2.2 I don't have this issue at all, thankfully.

Now you come to mention it I did the DSM Flash Zip about a week ago after flashing LeeDrOiD V2.1a, so it looks like thats the cause. Is there a quick way around this ? i.e. uninstalling the DSM flash or will I have to Full Wipe? Many thanks BTW

Bluetooth skips a LOT after Lollipop update

Am I the only one having this problem? I'm so bummed out about how choppy and horrible my bluetooth is after I updated to Lollipop. Is there any fix for this aside from the workaround I've seen people do, keep the screen on?

Try a factory data reset from the settings menu. I know it's not the most desirable option but it seems to be the fix for other problems as well. It's a good idea to reset after a major update anyways.
Just streamed for an hour and no issues here. Reset your phone if you have issues.
My Bluetooth skipped a lot before the lollipop update. I will try out the Bluetooth in the car today and let you know what I'm experiencing.

Yep I use bluetooth headset (Back Beat go 2) and it did that when my battery was low,on lolipop right after update it was happening for few minutes ,then it was ok.
I was using iPhone 5S before note4 and did not have this issue even once.
I wonder why that happens?
I just streamed for a couple hours. No skipping. I did a factory reset when I upgraded.
Do you have any devices near the phone? My work radio interferes with Bluetooth.
On a side note the phone auto connects to my Bluetooth adapter in my car.
If you trying to start a flame war, move along. It's mostly a software glitch and is easily fixable.
Verizon lollipop pdf mentioned that the OS would be updating/optimizing apps/their data for a few hours in background after the install.
Perhaps you should wait a few hours before the system has settled.
UPDATE:
Installed updates, no problems with BT music. No reset required.
After using it for several days, not just hours my bluetooth problem has resolved on its own! Thanks guys. Had me worried about it. No reset needed.
I am having the exact same problem, have tried all of the remedies to no avail. Never happened once when I was on Kitkat. It does it all the time now with Lollipop, I really hope they get this fixed.
Going to see if my wifes Note 4 on Lollipop does the same thing tonight and I'll report back.
A friend of mine just tried out Bluetooth from Note 4 to his car. It would cut out then when it came back it would speed up the same then go back to normal. Almost like it was trying to catch back up. He is on lollipop, Bluetooth works great for me on KK.
Mines doing the same.. no matter what bluetooth device or where I am, it'll "skip" every few minutes. Never did it before 5.0.1 update. Not sure where it started cause I used it factory stock for a couple months then did all the updates at once about a month ago. I haven't tried audio through the headphone jack, but I'm guessing that's fine since playing on the phone speaker is fine as well. I'll have to try the factory reset method and see if it fixes it.
Any other options or resolutions for this since it's been a few months since the last post?

This is the exact issue I'm having with my Note 4 using 5.1.1. No resolution yet

Bluetooth - Works for a random amount of time, then I have to restart Bluetooth..

Hello to any and all.
The issue im having is that my Bluetooth will connect to my in car FM adapter and work fine for both phone and media, and it may for work for several trips worth, but then it will beep with a connect sound through the speakers, but it won't play anything nor act as my phone. The bluetooth icon in the status bar shows connected, as does my FM adapater, but the only way to get it to work again is to turn off the bluetooth and FM adapter, then turn them back on. It will then work fine again for 1-15 or so trips worth of connecting. The issue will also happen with a bluetooth BOP I use.
Stock Android with root.
Android 6.0.1
Wiped everything 2 weeks ago, format system and data, recovered a handful of apps via TitaniumBackup
Worked for a few days in a row, but then the behavior began.
Bum hardware?
Any other info I can provide, im happy to.
Thank you in advance for any help.

I already have the same device and never encountered this issue. backup your apps and do a factory reset , and this time try the bluetooth before restoring your apps. The problem could be from an app..

Bluetooth "Phone Audio" turns off and cannot turn back on

I believe I have narrowed it down to the phone as the feature works after I reboot the phone. I noticed this when I got in the car and only the Media Audio led was lit on the receiver. When I go to the bluetooth menu on the phone and select the paired device (car receiver), Phone Audio is unchecked and I cannot re-check it. I have tried deleting the phone from teh car receiver and also the device from the phone and repairing and setting it up. It will connect and cannot select 'Phone Audio'. I also noted that after a reboot, bluetooth feature is turned off and needs to be turned back on. Once I turn it back on and click the gear on the BT device, I can turn on and off the Phone Audio and it will work for a while.
This is an 'all of a sudden' development as I have been running the same firmware and ROM for 9+ months. I am S-off and am running firmware 3.35.401.12 with the ViperOne 4.3 ROM. I have upgraded programs from the play store, but cannot figure out what might be causing this. Can anyone here help me fond a solution?
Thanks!
Keith
So just to clarify, you're using BOTH phone and media Bluetooth connections to the one single bluetooth media AND voice enabled head unit in the car?. One receiver?.
Do you have any apps running that will disable things when battery power gets low, like snapdragon battery guru?. Does your rom have any such features built in?.
Make sure both devices bluetooth lists are clear of old devices that no longer have access on resonable terms. Just to make sure its not scanning for another device as a primary.
Make sure you car audio system is running the latest firmware. It can usually be updated via cd/dvd/sdcard.
As mad as it seems, make sure the time is correctly set on both devices.

Yep, yep and yep.
Battery is full , I do not have battery guru installed. I did not change anything. It just now needs to be rebooted before it will connect to BT Phone Audio. Medial Audio connects and works properly, just as it always has.
I have a single Pioneer Premier head unit that I have used for years with multiple phones. If I reboot the phone before it tries to connect, it will connect and Phone Audio works. When it is 'locked out' (my term), I cannot select the block on the that is labeled 'Phone Audio' to check it. As the screenshot shows, it is 'unchecked' and no amount of touching it will check it. The only way to 'check' it is to reboot the phone. Oddly, it reboots with bluetooth turned off and when I turn it on, usually, it is already enabled (Phone Audio).
Thanks for the help,
Keith
After a little research it would appear that, apart from being right about the max enroled devices allowed is 3, "discoverable mode" is required.
Did you connect the phone to the radio or the radio to the phone?. Which discovered which for pairing?. Try pairing the other way from the way you did.
Can you access any options by holding or tapping on any of the fields in the picture above. Something to do with pbap if you can find it and turn it off, most likely under contact sharing. If not, dont worry.
Try turning contact sharing off or see if the stereo will copy them and store them so you can turn that feature off.
Other than that it could just be an incompatibility between the devices. It is not unknown for car audios to be crap hardware.

I am on teh same page of keithspg
I recently resetted my HTC M9 and as coinsequence I have been obligated to reinstall all BT devices (car, 2 headest, laptop)
It worked well (as in the past) for few days but now I have the same issue : I cannot switch on the audio phone !!!
Below the picture:
I could not find any other solution than to wipe the ROM and reinstall. I am now running viper 6.0. no problems. If you are not soff, you may want to ruu it. If you are soff you may want to wipe and install again whichever ROM you are running.

I am also having the exact same issue. I still have not been able to track down which app is the one causing this conflict. I have also done a factory restore and that seems to have worked for a time but the issue started again. It may be unrelated but... Have you changed the themes? I think that's one of the last things I did before it stopped working. Also restarting the phone "fixes" the issue for one connect/disconnect, but after the bluetooth is disconnected it will no longer allow to use phone audio. I have gone into the settings for the "Paired Bluetoth devices" and I am unable to check "Phone audio". It is not grayed out but it doesn't work either. This issue is driving me crazy, I hate to have to restart the phone every time I get in and out of the car just because the bluetooth wont sync. That being said, I have another clue into the issue. Today I was using the bluetooth in the car while on a phone call and transitioned to my Jawbone Icon when I exited the car flawlessly. I turned off the car, turned on Jawbone (so there wouldn't be a conflict of the Jawbone trying to connect to the phone while it was still connected to the car) Immediately the Jawbone connected and I was able to carry on with the conversation. I was really happy about this. However, when I was done with my phone call I turned off the Bluetooth and turned off the Jawbone. About an hour later I received a video through Whatsapp and when I played it there was no volume. When I pressed the volume button on the phone the volume bar had the Bluetooth symbol!!! The Bluetooth had been off for quite a while now and there where no Bluetoth devices present.
Hopefully this gives some insight into this issue that will help resolve it. Thank you very much!
I have also tried the soft reset and the issue persists.

I have recently had this problem on my stock ROM HTC 10. The HTC Australia website online chat actually gave me a solution which worked (!)
Settings > Apps > ... (menu) > Show system > Bluetooth Share > Storage > Clear Data
New findings on my phone.
I have an M9, rooted, unlocked and s-off. It has a stock ROM. I have had this issue for a while now. I don't know when or how it started. Everything used to apparently work fine. Could have been some update or an app I added at some point in time that possibly we all share. I had been restarting the phone as well to get the "phone audio" to work. That became excruciatingly tedious. I did find that, on my phone at least, placing the phone in airplane mode, waiting a moment for that to kick in, then starting up the Bluetooth, brought it up with "phone audio" checked. Then I would just turn airplane mode off.
Still a ridiculous way of getting it to work correctly. However, if this technique works for others as well, then I am thinking that airplane mode is disabling a service or something that is keeping it from connecting correctly. I will be looking into this as I hope some more savvy folks will be as well. If someone does figure it out, please share.

I found another thing that might be causing the issue by reading other forums. I made the adjustment on my phone this morning and I believe it to be working at this time. (For now anyway). I think it might be related to location services accuracy settings. There are a couple of ways to get there. In Bluetooth settings when the Bluetooth is off, you might see a link to it on the initial Bluetooth page. Otherwise, I found them under, Settings/Location. I have my mode set to "Battery Saving". But under the triple dot should be Scanning. Here I turned off Bluetooth scanning and things seem to be doing okay thus far. Just seems like it takes a few seconds longer to connect to my devices. However, so far, no issues. I may be speaking too soon. If I find it didn't work, I will correct myself in another post.

Same problem. Either after using my Fiat Car bluetooth system, or after my BLT bluetooth headset, my Phone audio stops and I have to restart my phone.
On my bluteooth headset I only use the "media" audio.
I am using a Samung galaxy 3 watch also.

Thank you!

Late post, but just ran into the same problem with my One M8 with final Viper ROM and my newly installed Pioneer BT head unit. Turning off BT scanning on the M8 worked for me as well.
Bluetooth audio and or media check boxes can't be checked
I was able to resolve the issue on my HTC One M9 by turning WiFi scanning and Bluetooth scanning off, updating the Bluetooth checkboxes for audio and media (both of which were unchecked and wouldn't allow me to check them), and turning the scanning back on.

Bluetooth and in-call issues after 7.0 OTA on T-Mobile

It doesn't seem to be much of a secret that BT gets roundly hosed by the 7.0 OTA t-mo update. I'm just adding my own experience for reference. I'll start with a very odd "feature" that my phone now has.
If I'm in a call, regardless of whether it's speaker, BT, or handset, turning on the screen (pressing the power button) mutes the caller. They can hear me, but I cannot hear them. Pressing the power button again to turn off the screen re-establishes the audio. it's insanity and I have no idea why/how this could be so specifically broken.
Second, the typical BT issues with the M9 and 7.0. If someone calls me and I'm using BT, no audio. I turn off BT while the call is still going, and I get audio from the handset. Turn on BT again, headset connects and no audio. However, if I initiate the call, no problems.
I don't have much hope that t-mo will fix this, so I'm going to factory reset my phone to get it back to 6.x, then run the RUU from HTC to get back to 7 and see if that's any better. if not, I'll need to find a ROM that will let me keep wi-fi calling as it's quite useful to me.
Orrrr..... someone here has a suggestion for how to fix one/both of these issues.
Cheers!
You never mentioned if your phone has been modified beyond just the update.
Presuming you didn't, factory reset is the first thing after rebooting the device (have you turned it off and on again!).
Failing that it'd make sense to flash the firmware again but the difference between ota and full flash is factory wipe so in essence you'll just end up at the same place.
The problem could just as easily be a rogue app. Anything that uses call or Bluetooth would be on my **** list for deletion.
Beamed in by telepathy.
A solid point about not providing info re: the ROM state. In fact, all stock and still boot-locked. And get this: I figured it out! Well, HTC support helped.
I factory reset the phone yesterday and much to my chagrin, it was still wonky when it came back to life. I called HTC and the gentleman I talked to suggested that I clear the cache. I have no idea why, but that sorted it out immediately.
And to summarize for anyone else that might be experiencing a similar problem and searching for a resolution:
HTC ONE M9 inbound voice muted while screen is on
and seriously, after some t-shoot, that's the exact behavior. I thought it was a bluetooth-only issue, but that was not the case. Any inbound voice, regardless of the bidi communication method (handset, BT, or speaker) would mute when the screen was on. and it was totally binary. Hit the power button during a call and turn on the screen, inbound voice muted. Press it again to turn off the screen, inbound unmuted.
So weird...
