I just got a 210R with Samsung's stock 4.4.2 and recovery 3e. Can I access Odin with it? When I hold the "home", "vol down" and "power" buttons it goes directly to the 3e recovery menu. The only option for the USB cable seems to be the ADB mode but while the PC connects fine when I choose that option, Odin 3.10.6 doesn't see it.
edit: Found the problem. My vol up and down buttons are reversed.

Okay here's the run down. I'm on JB and rooted, and was about to apply the new FreeGee bootloader unlock, when I wanted, out of sheer curiosity, to check to see if I could get into the stock recovery by holding powering off and then holding Vol Down + Power. Ever since I rooted it didn't seem to work anymore, but I didn't have a need to boot into since manually applying the JB update.
Anyway, neither Vol Down+Power of Vol Up+Power worked, the phone just booted normally. So, I decided to use ADB to boot into recovery using "adb reboot recovery". It worked, and the stock recovery loaded up. I can scroll up and down using the volume keys, but for some reason cannot select any option by pressing the power button. If I hold the power button down, the phone will appear to restart, but it boots right back into the stock Android system recovery, where again, I cannot simply select any choice with the power button. ADB doesn't list the device since I'm in recovery, and I only have fastboot installed on my lapton running XP which isn't available at the moment (I'm on OSX 10.6).
I'm thinking pulling the battery may work, but I don't have my torx screw driver handy. Anyone have any ideas? Perhaps where to get fastboot for OSX (it appears to still be missing from Android SDK). Thanks.
EDIT: SOLVED - Turns out in stock recovery, the soft menu button (the one on the bottom right) is used to make the selection, not the power button like in the custom recoveries. Still not sure why the Power+Vol. Down doesn't work to boot into the stock system recovery.
Use the menu button to select now.
what dm said. they wont be lit up but they still work
Yeah, I figured that out almost immediately after posting this (feel dumb now). Thanks though.
Any idea why the key combo Vol. Down + Power no longer works to boot into stock recovery? Seems odd that it worked before when manually updating to JB.
Hello. Can you tell me another solution. I have similar problem. Stuck in recovery mode with faulty power button, and can't get out of there. It's not working with menu button. Is there a way to do it with SD memory card? Thanks.
I've been trying to root my Tab S 10.5 (SM-T800) and I'm having problems. The instructions say to put the tablet into "download mode" using either "ADB reboot download" command, which I can't send as it says my Tab S is "offline", or by turning the tablet off and then enter download mode by pressing HOME+VOL DWN+POWER together.
So when I press HOME+VOL DWN+POWER together, the andy screen first says "No Command" then immediately goes to "Device Recovery" mode.
So is the recovery mode the same as download mode? Or is there something else I'm missing?
From what I understand is that there a 2 'modes'.
A 'download mode' , which allows you to flash with Odin.
And a 'Recovery mode', which allows you to make/restore nandroid backups with a custom recovery manager and flash custom roms.
They are 2 different modes.
So when I press HOME+VOL DWN+POWER together, the andy screen first says "No Command" then immediately goes to "Device Recovery" mode.

This I don't get either. Samsung's stock download mode should be something like this:
See Attachment
How does this happen? You sure you're pushing the right buttons? Is USB plugged in? I'm curious because it seems that I cannot reproduce this with my Tab S. It just always goes the stock download mode (see attached image).
Hope that answers your question

recovery is diff than download mode. note that the vol buttons are swapped on the Tab S, i.e. vol down = the rocker closer to the power button.
I was provided this device to try and help resolve the issue. I am not sure how it got to this point. I believe that it was rooted with a custom ROM, then the individual tried to install a stock ROM (method unknown).
The current situation is:
Galaxy Tab S 10.5 SM-T800 stuck in a bootloop with the TWRP logo on the screen. I can not get the tablet to go into download mode. I have tried all of the different methods to enter download mode, i.e. Power & Vol - & Home, Drain the battery > Plug into PC while holding Vol - & Home, Power & Vol + & Vol -. None of these combinations do anything. The only thing I can do to get a response is to press Power & Vol +, which reboots the device right back into the TWRP loop after the Samsung Logo. Power button alone does nothing.
The device is seen by Windows with the Samsung Drivers but is not mounted to a drive letter, and I can not mount it.
ADB , fastboot and Odin do not see the device.
I would like to flash a new rom either custom or stock, but I need to be able to get the device into download mode so it can be seen by odin.
Any help would be great.
Mike
Probably just timing and pilot error this one. I've never known of any Samsung device boot but be incapable of booting to download mode as download mode is bootloader related.
No working bootloader means dead device.
No matter what state the device is in at the moment with the usb cable removed, hold POWER + VOL DOWN (not up) + HOME until the Samsung boot logo comes up, hold for another couple of seconds then release. Download mode should appear.
I know it should be easy....
I know it should work but it is not, I will make a vid of the process and post. I can not make heads or tails.

Is the home button actually working, are you pressing it firm enough?
If the home button doesn't register then the tablet will simply reboot.
Its a bit odd why twrp doesn't fully boot though unless it's the wrong one.
Does it hang at the twrp logo or continually reboot?
Hello,
Can someone give me the EXACT procedure to enter into Download and Recovery mode please?
If my tab (SM-T830) is switched off, and I switch it on by pressing Vol down + Power and I keep pressing both buttons, it will boot until the first splash screen (Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 Powered by Android) then after this screen, it will reboot..
If I release buttons during this splash screen, it boots up normally
I already succeeded to enter to download or recovery modes before but I have no idea how. I guess I must release 1 or 2 button at the point but when ?
Thanks
Hello,
Hopefully this will be helpful, the following procedure worked for me:
make sure the tab is off
plug the USB cable in your tab (but not in your computer)
hold down both volume buttons together
plug the USB cable in your computer
then the tab start (you may release the buttons) with a menu allowing you to choose (Vol +/-) between download mode and reboot.

It works perfectly, thank! That's a weird way to go to DL mode but it works!
And once I'm already in DL (and flashed a tar with Odin), do you know how I can restart directly to Recovery mode without rebooting to system?

This is really late, but go to recovery and select download mode.
Power off
Hold down all three buttons (power, vol down, vol up)
Once it vibrates let go of power and vol down, continue to hold vol up. Never fails.

Did this several times exactly the same way it's described and it fails every single time. Other way worked perfectly and easily on my first try.
Hello:
I use the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime Plus J2 Phone.
I want to root my phone using the latest version of Magisk, 22.0. But I also have to install the TWRP custom recovery. Well I don't know how to get the phone in to fastboot to enable me install the recovery.
So, I will be most grateful if I can get some tutorial on how to boot the phone in to fastboot and subsequently install the TWRP custom recovery latest version.
Hope my question is well understood.
Thanking you in advance for your help.
The usual way to put the majority of Android phones into fastboot/odin/download mode is to :
Have the phone off
Hold down the volume down button
Hold down the power button to switch the phone on
Release the power button when the screen switches on
Release the volume down button when you’re in download mode
It’s easy to remember : volume down is for download mode
Likewise, to boot into recovery (to get your device back up), do the same while holding down the volume up button.
If you have an extra button (such as the home button on older Samsung phone), hold it in addition to the volume buttons.
(Some devices use other methods to enter different modes. I’ve seen :
Holding down both volume up and down buttons while pressing power
Holding either volume up/down while plugging the USB cable to a computer
All start with the phone switched off.)
As for TWRP, a quick search led me to https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...axy-j2-grand-prime-plus-sm-g532f-g-m.3616589/
You’ll most probably need a Windows computer with Odin to flash TWRP for the first time. Once it’s done, you should be able to do without.
