Hello,
I need you to take me doubts.
I want to change rom. I'm using the stock and want to put Cloudy 2.1.
I want to back up my apps and settings to change rom (reinstall and reconfigure it's too boring!).
How should I proceed? I was told that the backup via TWRP only serves to copy the rom I'm using. Ie not help.
Help me, please.

Use titanium backup to save all your apps and settings, then you can put them back after you change the ROM.

I use MyBackup because it can back up *.apk files and their associated data.
Titanium backup
http://matrixrewriter.com/android/
The only backup app you will ever need
ROM manager backs up and restores everything for me when I switch from rom to rom. Just set up everything once while on each rom and create a backup for each to restore to. I also us Titanium backup to backup my apps but you don't need it if you just want to restore your settings and apps as you saved it in rom manager.
Im currently using RCMix ROM but want to try out MIUI.
If I dont like MIUI I want to be able to revert to RCMix exacatly how i have it on my phone atm (Apps, Settings, Msgs etc)
Im guessing that if I do a backup using CWM that will save everything exactly how it is now?
Then I can install MIUI and if I dont like it, I can just restore using CWM and not have to worry about kernels, radios, apps, settings etc?
Correct. Just use the Backup Current ROM in ROM Manager (or use Recovery) and everything is saved.
I recommend you do this every time you change (or even upgrade) a ROM as it makes it easy to go back.

I have a HTC DHD and have decided that I want a custom ROM. Is there a way to backup my apps and app settings before I do so? So that I can restore them once the custom ROM is installed?
Also, is here a way to backup my branded ROM before I change it?
Thanks

Yes. I have been through this before :
1. Follow guides to permanently root and radio s-off first. Install Clockworkmod.
2. Back up app: Install backup program. I use Titanium Backup and backed up all installed apps and settings. They are saved for later restoration.
Check up http://matrixrewriter.com/wiki/tiki-index.php?page=TB+-+HOWTOs for official steps.
3. Now get into your CWM Recovery. Make a back up of your stock rom. I still do keep an back up copy of my official stock ROM.
4. Flash the rom of your choice. Flash the radio if necessary.
5. Boot into new rom. Install Titanium Backup if there isn't. Restore your system settings and user apps like in the above link.
6. Become a flash mania. Start your life of flashing tons of different roms...
These are rough steps. You may experience some hiccups during the last step. Usually can be solved by reinstalling from the Market (instead of restoring from backup) and restoring settings only. That's the fun side of this whole stuff.

Is your phone rooted ? If so, then it's easy, use TitaniumBackup to backup all your apps.
If you don't have permanent root (i.e. by using the HTCdev bootloader unlock tool and then rooting, or by using the XTC Clip device and rooting), then you can get temporary root and still do the backup/restore that way. Just with temp root you will have to re-do the rooting after a reboot.
Sent from my Desire Z running CM7.
Easiest way is to use CLockwork Mod and create a nandroid of your current Rom, then when you try other roms and decide to go back to previous Rom, you just use cwm and select restore.
Also use Titanium Backup as suggested earlier.

Hey guys;
Essentially; if I do a nandroid backup before I flash a new rom, can I go back to stock by doing a nandroid restore?
Did a search but wanted to get a proper answer.
I have a n7105 with Vodafone software from Australia. There is no stock rom to download for this, and my main concern is keeping some sort of backup so that I can flash back to 'stock' if anything goes wrong and I need to do a warranty repair.
I have flashed many phones in the past but this is the first time I haven't been able to download the stock software.
If I root the phone, flash CWM, do a Nandroid, then flash a different rom, can I get back to my original software by loading my nandroid backup? Is that how nandroid works?
Thanks people; I really appreciate it.

Awesome! So, again to clarify, I can move from say, cm back to Vodafones 4.1.2 or whatever it is?
Also, I would probably want to move the actual backup image off my phone once its made, is that possible?

When you will restore your backup you will come back to your ROM (included settings) you had when you proceeded to this Nandroid.
You can move the backup but be careful: you will have to put back the folder in the same directory and name.

Yes look at you sdcard/clockworkmod folder after backup. You should not cut it. Copy it in anywhere and dont touch any of this file or you will get md5 error..
Any time you want to back just press the restore button ...
Now flash any rom..
Cheers
