[Q] Developer Edition - Unknown Device? - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently got the Note 4 Dev Edition and just took out my S5 SIM and slapped it in. Note 4 works as it should. When I log in to my account it shows non VZW device. Does the DE Note 4 really need to be activated? Just curious since my phone is working fine.

Mine didn't, it shows my DE (well just note 4).

Thanks for the response. Did you use the sim card that came in it?

I had upgraded my sim on my note 2 in 2014 to a enhanced sim (for softcard etc, which I dont use) and I just switched them out and no problem. Shows up as a note 4

that is weird. my developer shows fine no problems. just shows note 4 but no issues. my nexus 6 showed non vzw device but note 4 dev is fine

Strange indeed. I'm not going to worry about it for now. I guess when advanced calling aka VoLTE is available for the Note 4, I'll have to worry about it then since it looks like I have to manually activate the feature.

Interesting... I logged in today to my verizon account and now both phones are listed as Note 4s. Guess it took Verizon a while to update their database for the IMEIs.

[Q] AT & T Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Android 4.4.2

Hi folks,
My AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is not received kitkat update which is released recently.
mine is factory unlocked (not rooted) and am using in india.
How can i update? Is there any different method?
Hoping to get some help from you guys
Thanks
Mine would not update either because I was not using an at&t sim card for my 4g/lte and I was only using wifi.
I tried Samsung kies, that did not show kit kat upgrade for my tablet.
I called at&t... they said the only way to get the update is through their servers. In order to do that, you have to have an active at&t sim card in the tablet. I tried the at&t sim card from my galaxy note 3 - I was able to get a 4g/lte data connection, but I could not update the tablet.
So, I went to at&t and got a new sim card and reactivated my data plan for the tablet. I then checked for updates and it updated immediately.
Good luck.
using kiskat
its more than a month I have been using kit kat my my note 8 i467 . i am not in at&t service. i and from India .my device is fine without any problem some time battery problem. device have became more smooth and clear

[Q] Is this a viable phone for me?

Hi!
I previously had a Note 4 for a day or two after release, coming from at that time, an iPhone. I subsequently returned the note, kept the iPhone, and recently upgraded to the 6+. Now with ATT's mobile share, I'm looking at adding a second line for how cheap it is. I'd like for that second line to be an android device, to get the best of both worlds. As a result of being out of the mix when it comes to android, or more like never having been in it, I have a couple questions.
I distinctly remember how much junk was on my ATT Note 4. Junk apps from Samsung, junk from ATT- and worst of all, I couldn't do anything about it (no root?). Has that changed? Is there a way to remove these apps, fix touch wiz annoyances, etc? I'd think that would require root, but like I mentioned, I don't know the details of note4 root status, or even rooting in general.
I currently have a Nexus 6 and Oneplus One on order (good prices on both of them), but personally like the Note4 the best- can I change it to make it perfect? Or is it still locked down and junked up?
Thanks for your help!
Don't get the AT&T Note 4. Get the T-Mobile Note 4 and use it on the AT&T network. The AT&T version is locked down whereas the T-Mobile version is not which means it's rootable. It looks like the AT&T Note 4 will never see permanent root, ever.

I just bought my note 4 two weeks ago. If I could go back in time I would have bought the nexus 6. This phone lags too much for my liking. It is actually slower than my g2 was at opening apps. I thought I would like this phone but at this point regret my choice.

So just to be clear, I can root a T-Mobile version of the note 4, and use it on att, with no loss of functionality(network speeds/lte bands/that sort of thing)? That sounds like a really attractive option to me. Would T-Mobile let me walk in and buy a device just straight up?
Thanks for the help!

OK heres what you do if they won't let you buy it straight up. Buy the t mobile version on the payment plan because like that there's no contact or ETF. Go home and make a call for 5 min on T mobile sim, then submit the imei to cell unlocker net. Then in a few days call and cancel the service with Tmobile and pay the remainder of the phone off, which by the way is $100 cheaper then the AT&T version. After receiving the unlock code from cell unlocker stick the AT&T sim in and when it boots it will ask for the unlock code, put it in and your good to go.
I have both versions of the note 4 and the t mobile version works perfect on the AT&T network except you have root, custom roms and kernels. All the rom developers in the note 4 t mobile forum full support the AT&T network in there roms straight out the box.
You might want to wait 3 months for the note 5 because this phone is already dated and is a big investment.
Good luck.

Thanks for the help Sand, that is a great explanation. The tmobile device is clearly better then- no loss of service quality or anything, but still having the root, roms, etc. I think regardless of the imminent release of the note 5, I might still get the four for now, or just keep that incoming OPO One- waiting 3 months for the note 5, plus however much more time for rooting dev is a bit long for me. Regardless, I appreciate your information!

cant get signal with new Sim/account

Hello, My daughter been playing with my old AT&T Note 2 so I got her a Sim so she could use it. Well it wont get a signal BUT sometimes it will show a AT&T with a G or an E and and I look and it doesnt show a phone number it says unknown but my phone wont get a signal. Could there be something wrong with my phone or could it be on their end? I reinstalled 4.4.2 through Odin and same results.
Thoughts?
Is the sim from AT&T or an AT*T sub brand? The sim works in another phone?
It's right from the store, I went there and got it. I can't see if it works in another phone it's a larger sim and I have all Nexus phones.
The Nexus 4 and 5 use a micro sim which is the same size as the Note 2. You have a Nexus 6?
This is a note 2 i317 and I do have a moto Nexus 6 and it's not the same. That card is one size up unfortunately...
I'm at work but I will double check tonight when I get home...
Well I resolved my issue... I went to cancel the number and the lady gave me a Galaxy S5 for $2.78 with no contract and no commitment since I been a member since 2005.

Verizon activation questions

I received my Verizon Note 10+ today but don't want to activate it to my phone# until next week when my case and tempered glass screen protector arrives. I work in a hectic warehouse / retail environment and I know it would get damaged. Until then I was hoping I could continue using my protected Note 8 as my phone calls / text device and also setup the Note 10+ with apps, customization, etc when I get home at night. The Verizon sim card for the Note 10+ is still in the box, I have not installed it.
1. Is there any way to bypass the Verizon activation screens on the Note 10+ and get to the camera, apps, internet, customization settings so I can set it up how I like it before I activate it?
2. If I have to go ahead and activate the Note 10+ with Verizon can I deactivate it later tonight or tomorrow and reactivate my Note 8 until the protection for the Note 10+ arrives?
Thank you for any advice and sorry for any confusion.

With the T-Mobile version, I didn't move my SIM over until the new phone was all ready to go, no issues. You'll want to move the old SIM, not use the new one, if possible. If you use the new SIM you'll need to call Verizon to activate, probably.

OK thank you! I've never done anything with carriers other than regular activation. I just remember years ago with my HTC phone, and later my Note 2, I could setup Google, access apps and settings and then activate the new phone with Verizon when I was good and ready.

still seeing old carriers boot logo

I purchased a Galaxy note 8 from Verizon years ago. After being with Verizon for a year I switched to TMobile to save some money and I brought my Verizon note 8 with me. I used the note 8 on TMobile for another year then I switched back to Verizon and got the pixel 4xl. I sold my old note 8 to a friend who was using straight talk as his carrier. The TMobile boot screen still pops up and he still get messages from T-Mobile and he doesn't have data when he is talking on the phone. Is there a way to fix this? The phone is unlocked and paid off. TMobile says they don't know how to get their stuff off the phone. Any help is much appreciated.
