I have an original Desire bought in Norway, and imported (and hence VAT free!) to the UK, using my T Mobile SIM that has worked perfectly well in my G2/Hero.
Every few minutes or so, irrespective of how many connection bars, the network will suddenly drop off, and I get the "Cross of doom" on the reception icon.
If I am in the message app (standard HTC messages), and this happens, it will kick me off any message I was composing at the time, and I have to start again when the connection is back. It will also have no messages in the inbox until the network is back some seconds later and everything loads. It's almost like a blackout all of a sudden.
It will drop calls for the same reason, and 10 seconds or so I am back on connection.
I sent it back to HTC using the Global Warranty Scheme, who have changed the Main Board, FOC, and collected/delivered by courier. Very efficient service BTW. I was so disappointed to find it still having the same problem.
I have also exchanged my SIM with T Mobile for a new one (Same number). I have ordered a Vodfone PAYG SIM just to experiemt the likelyhood it may be the network provider. However, it looks more like the radio suffers a sudden loss of power, and conks out.
The APN settings have been set to WCDMA only (changed from AUTO/WCDMA) as it seemed to sort it out, but I got excited too soon.
At my wits end, as the phone is miles ahead of my G2 in so many ways, and I love it, but I don't know whether it's a T Mobile issue or if I should send it back to HTC again. As it's not provided by T Mobile, and I have another 7 months left of my contract, I am stuck if it's network related.
Any suggestions gratefully received.
OK...have now popped the PAYG Vodafone SIm into the phone, and it barely has reception and drops out too.
...so have phoned HTC again, and UPS will once again be collecting it on Monday. I asked what happens if a fault is still not found, and after the third return I can apply to have the phone replaced by HTC. It's not ideal, but beats having to pay for a flight to exchange it abroad.
Still, if anyone have any suggestions, please let me know!

Just an FYI, but I too am on T-Mobile, and recently replace my G2 with a Desire.
I find the network reception on the Desire is much better than on my G2, and I've no problems with dropped connections.
I know this doesn't help you, but it does point to the problem being your particular device.

Dave

Thanks Dave, this does strengthen the case thinking it's the device. HTC were pretty swift in returning the device last time, so if it means a week X 2 being without it, I can live with that as I can then ask for it to be replaced on warranty direct from HTC.
I have the same issue with a Stock Desire from Vodafone..
Signal drops but more often it fluctuates like hell ... calls are dropped...
or other people can't hear me properly ...
Maybe it is an issue that will be resolved with a "Radio" update from HTC ?
Does someone know maybe this happened in the past with other HTC handsets and got sorted out later..
It is really buggy...
my girlfriend is having the same issues with her Desire
we applied the official update that was released a week or 2 ago (with a new radio) but that didn't solve the issue
sometimes she also hears a weird sound before the call goes dead..
did anybody have any luck in getting this solved?
will a custom rom fix the issues?
thanks!
coming from a htc hd2 (switched for this particular reason) i can report that this has happened on many htc phones, it is NOT a device problem, it has been mostly linked to your location and interference (buildings etc) as the frequencies used by the latest htc antennas use a frequency which does not penetrate as well.
you can read the 50 or so pages of it for the hd2, SOME progress has been made but never fixed, the only hope is HTC releasing a fix.

thanks for your fast reply!
I checked the thread you mentioned but it seems to be all about internet issues
my girlfriend never uses mobile internet so the issues she has are call related
these don't happen every day but every few days
about once every 3 weeks she gets a total signal drop which can only be solved by rebooting (this seems to be something mentioned in the thread)
then again most probably internet, call and signal issues are most likely to be caused by the radio so it could be the same problem..
is anybody experiencing the same weird loud static noise sound from time to time before a call gets auto-ended?
I just want to get all the facts straight because she is planning on sending it back to HTC for repair but if it's a new radio flash she needs there is no point in sending it back
sorry for the long post
Why don't you try setting it on AUTO, or GSM only, even better?
Sound like sudden loss of WCDMA connection.
tried that this week but the issue still remains..
is this something that can be fixed by flashing a custom rom?
or do we need to wait for HTC to provide another radio?
Maybe....
Maybe this is not your case but I want to share with you.
I had the same problem with Hero and then with the Desire. It was very frustrating. Then I got it: all the programs like auto-killer. task-killer etc were acting killing (apparently random) my voice call. Incredible ! Now I have the same Disre, but I haven't installed any task killer or task manager. The device works good and I don't have dropped calls anymore
Again, maybe it's not your case. Maybe could be helpful for someone else...
Just try if you have some task killer installed. Uninstall it
So picked up a T-mobile G2 from a guy on craigslist. I forgot to check out the camera before I paid up. I came home and cannot get the camera to work at all. the camera app crashes everytime and I have to force close it. The dedicated camera button also does nothing at all. Have tried doing a factory reset a couple of time and have no luck.
Any ideas for options? I am pretty sure the warranty is not in play as I am the second(third /fourth) owner.
Looks like its running the stock firmware
Android Version
2.2
Baseband Version
12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M
Kernel Version
2.6.32.17-g9ab3677
Build Number
1.22.531.8 CL277427
Thanks in advance
Did you try a 3rd party camera app to make sure the camera works?
No third party camera app works either. I think they all use the base app in the background or something.
At this point since you cant get your money back you might as well root it and install a different rom and see what happens.
Well I ibuy all my phones off craigslist and I can get replacement from tmobile. Worked for mytouch 4g and worked for g2.
Please click thanks button
U must be willing to spend sometime on this...
Won't work unless ur a tmobile subscriber.
1.go on tmobile website, log in, go to contact us and online chat.
2.find the one that says trouble shooting
3.fill out ur info
4.tell them you recently bought a g2. (Don't say like 2 weeks ago or anything like that, tell them you bought it yesterday) and obiviosuly don't tell them you bought it off ebay or craig. Act like you bought it off tmobile store.
Tell them you have a friend and he had his g2 for a while and he's firmware version is different than yours. Tell them he received an ota upgrade sometime ago. and you still haven't received your ota update. So you took it to the store and everything and they told you to contact tmobile and see if your imei number is in their system. Now they will require your imei number. Give them your imei number and they will tell you they updated in and ur imei number is now in their system.
At this point their system will think you just bought the phone as it just registered on their system. So its like your on tmobile 14 days remorse return thingy. I forgot what its called.
Now exit the online chat.
Now this time choose phone acce then warranty exchange.
And tell them you are experiencing weird reboots problem. Tell them the phone reboots by itself like 5 times a day. And you found a dead pixel on the screen idk make some stuffs up
And tell them you already took it to the store and did hard reset and eveything and your still experiencing problems.
(This is a must part or they will walk you through hard resetting the phone steps and tell you to contact again if you're still experiencing problem)
Ur done. They will say they will send you the replacement phone at this point.
Just make sure you still have the void sticker and u don't have any water damage. Or you will get charged.

Strange, some others have mentioned it, have you tried rooting and installing a custom rom? Or is that something you didn't have interest in doing?

Hiw sure are you that this will work on a G2 that was purchased back in October? I have a legitimate problem....traded my N1 for G2 on craigslist and now the screen is white w/black lines. I have a custom ROM installed (but didn't tell them that). I called and they said it's not under warranty (since I'm not the original owner). I'm guessing that conversation is in the system, but I'm willing to try this method. This seems incredibly sketchy and it seems like they would have the phone in the system on the original owner's account.
Hi everyone,
So I have to share my horror story with you all for you to understand how customers can be royally messed with.
This is not a "get back at them" thread but mostly a place where we can post our stories with issues we had and where I can direct you to a Facebook page where everyone can go make their stories public and so we can make them increase their standards of customer service and warranty.
So here is my story with HTC:
N.B. None of our phones are rooted and only her's was SIM unlocked via a code we purchased.
So since December 2011, my girlfriend (Phone B) and I (Phone A) have both been using HTC Desire Z sold by Bell Canada. I am a Bell user and she is a Rogers user. Mine was bought under my contract and her's was bought by someone else who got a contract to get the phone but sold the phone brand new and gave me the receipt.
So we had been using our phones without any problems until I started experiencing issues in July 2011. The screen was not responding and I had to send it (A) for repairs. It was returned and was used without any issue until the next problem popped up (keep reading).
In December 2011, I decided to send my girlfriend's phone (B) since she had been complaining that her earpiece was crackling. So in December, I sent the phone.
I leant her my phone for the time her's was under repair. One night, my phone froze when she loaded a PDF. It restarted fine but the next morning, it was stuck at the HTC screen (A).
I called Bell. In Canada, it turns out carriers are responsible for handling the warranty so they consider that if you are not a customer under the carrier, you can't avail yourself of the manufacturer's warranty. This makes absolutely no sense but just another way of licking up customers with their companies.
I called HTC USA (as HTC doesn't have any offices in Canada) and fought for an hour until they transferred me to a repair unit. With them, they told me that the phone was still under warranty and gave me a work order to send to the subcontractor responsible for repairs.
I sent phone A for repairs. In the meantime, phone B was returned. We sent phone B for repairs unlocked and they returned it locked (new IMEI). I paid to get it unlocked and my girlfriend started using it. She told me that it rebooted every 2 minutes. I took a video of it and it is pretty ridiculous. With a Rogers SIM, it reboots every 2 minutes, without a SIM, it reboots every 15 or so. I'm now going to have to send phone B for repairs again and cross my fingers that it doesn't fail again.
Now the pièce de résistance is coming up. I just received a call from the repair company and they are asking 200$ to fix phone A. They consider that a phone under warranty with a work order and sent because of random software failure needs 200$? What is this?
Posted my story on the HTC Canada facebook page and guess what? INSTANT DELETE! Because of this, I started my own Facebook page. We are customers, I bought not 1 but 2 phones from them and look at what they do!
So here it is, the facebook page where all of you should post your stories:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/HTC-Ce...751052?sk=wall
If it gathers wind, we might finally get some real help from HTC. I was a BIG fan of them. Until they fix this mess, NEVER again will I buy or advise anyone to buy their products!
Thank you and sorry for the long post.
Show some support and share your stories, the more posts there are, the more likely they are to help us.
Wow that sucks sorry, but if your these forums why not do all the software fixes yourself?
Yeah I totally understand your point of view. I rooted my Dream in the past and now the Galaxy Nexus but my girlfriend's, I thought, didn't need to be rooted.
Plus, when they are under warranty then I don't see why risk bricking it (if you're good enough, it shouldn't happen) but now that they will be out of warranty, I will root and unlock them for sure.
The only problem is when being repaired, they are updated to the most recent firmware so it makes it a bit harder to root.
Apart from that, the phone that is stuck on the HTC screen is S-ON and is not USB debugging since she had factory reset it herself. Makes it inaccessible from my knowledge right?
The other one is still under warranty and is the one that is rebooting constantly. I don't know whether I'm better off rooting it and installing another firmware or having it corrected by them. It should work out of the box no? Am I being unreasonable for expecting my phones to work? I am also not the first one to experience this, plenty of threads seen on this and other websites...
Anyways thanks for your reply.
HTC Netherlands did a great job for me!
The power-button was not working anymore after the phone fell on the ground. I told them that I want it to be fixed, if it was not getting too expensive. They fixed it and did not charge a penny!
Yeah pven, I guess we should be unbiased and present both sides, fairer that way.
But my case is particularly bad. I ended up rooting her phone and installed the most recent build of cyanogenmod. It rebooted once since but another issue has appeared. When she presses the power button, it locks the screen but sometimes it is actually powered off and needs to go through a short boot process to get back to the home screen.
Also, the phone had been sent to repair the speaker. Turns out they changed the whole board and the speaker isn't fixed. I'll have to put it back to stock ROM, put the original hboot, and unroot it in order to send it back to get it repaired twice.
Surprised she doesn't want to give up on it... after all that has happened, I wouldn't be surprised if would simply forsake HTC altogether... She had an HTC Touch Pro 2 and didn't really like it either so I'm out of options...
As for my DZ, the situation is being corrected with HTC and their contractor. I'm hoping for positive news but it seems it would be going my way. I have a bunch of emails from HTC support that has it going my way at least (them saying it's covered but not for out of warranty damage and a faulty board is not out of warranty damage).
Bottom line, I will think twice before buying a non-nexus device. My Gnex is working like a charm! Too bad the unstable software out-shadowed the amazing hardware of the DZ.
Oh man, this is interesting, i have got my htc phone repaired in China, and all those workers act really nice
Hi all .. i had iphone 4s which i exchanged with someone via gumtree with one x. the phone was locked to three and was new. so i unlocked it today via unlocksaver.com
i entered the code they gave me and it searched for something then it said successful but when it restarted it is saying IMEI locked in the place where it shows carrier in notification tray. what does that mean? i dont understand is it blacklisted? or is it not unlocked properly? i noticed i tried to restart it 2 or three times and it did got a signal once then again it says imei locked
The only way a phone will get blocked is if the owner reports it being stolen/lost
You could be a victim of crime if bought on second hand market as the owner is probably doing insurance scam.
are u from denmark then post eng and danish
Not had the same issue but saw something in the forum. Try this:
Go to menu settings then power and untick fast boot. Restart phone and see what that does if it works tick fast boot back

Sometimes it just says no service but sometimes it says imei locked .. i am worried my phone has no signal does it has anything to do with that unlock code i purchased?
If the phone is blocked (the imei) from the carrier for being stolen or lost, your sim should work for like 5 minutes before it gets locked, this meens you can make phone calls or send sms in the first 5 minutes before it gets locked.it is how much time your phone needs to send the imei number to your carrier so they can check if it is ok or if it is been stolen/lost. You can go at this website http://www.amta.org.au/pages/amta/Check.the.Status.of.your.Handset and check the status of your imei, it is for Australia but try to find the service/website for your country.

My brand new sim free One X did this when I first tried to use it - called retailer to exchange it - they suggested a hard reset (keep power button held for 10 secs +) and that fixed the problem for me. Worth a try?

tbh if you have been stung by this person with a stolen handset i would return the favor and report the iphone stolen, but dont do it until you have comfermed that he has done this.
sounds like the typical insurance scam to me.

thanks for replies people... i did manged to get in contact with that person and realy tried to help me alot but the wiered thing is when i got home and tried to turn on phone after 12 hours or soething the phone was working and i felt embarresed taht i bloked iphone and that guy had no intention of that but there was realy something wrong with my phone. its fine now :/
My One X had the exact same problem, took it back to the store i got it from and they changed it for a new one which worked fine.
Seems it may be a problem with the phone rather than a dodgy seller as mine came from Carphone Warehouse
What a cruel joke...after a week I get mine from expansys and I am getting IMEI locked contact customer care!!!! Aghhhh...
Please tell me there is another solution to resolve this aside from RMA and more waiting?
Damn...
Moderator Information,
I have closed this thread as we do not allow the discussion of changing or editing IMEI numbers. I am afraid the best thing you can do is try to find the person who sold you the phone and report the issue to them.
Many thanks,
Stephen
Okay, so here's the story. Fed up with my One V and needed to upgrade. Found a faulty One X on ebay, bought it for £110 or so thinking I could fix it. I couldn't. Rooting didn't help, was a hardware issue. Came on here and apparently only option is to send it back. Turns out the phone is still under warranty (well, if it wasn't rooted). Reflash to stock, send it to HTC (no proof of purchase!) and today I received it back! Good as new, and they even chucked in a free pair of headphones because it took them so long! So yeah, HTC rock.
Only issue is it's locked to a network because the ebay seller was a moron and listed it wrong/incorrectly. I tried 2 unlocking sites already but no luck, anyone have a link to one that they've used that worked? Ideally I'd like to do it via internet but I guess I'll take it to a shop and see if they can if its required.
Glad to hear that someone (else than myself) has good experience with the HTC Support!

As far as I know, it doesn't. On some mobile phones you can pretty easily network unlock your device when having root acces (by looking for some kind of code in a file that's in your root folder), but rooting doesn't do this automatically.
What's your carrier? From what I have read here on xda, if I'm not wrong, orange and Vodafone have changed the unlock codes and the codes from internet don't work. I'm on tmobike and I unlocked my phone to any network from online site without any problem.
Sent from my HTC One X
To what network is your phone locked and will let you know for sure if it can be unlocked by code or not. As an alternative one x now can be unlock by cable ,so probably some unlock shops can do that for you also
