[Q] GPS and 4GLTE problems with note 4 - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello All, I am requesting help with a Galaxy Note 4 that I have purchased on the cheap.
I recently purchase a unlocked Galaxy Note 4 on craigslist for $340.00 yes you heard right $340.00. I seen this phone advertised and decided to take the risk and purchase the phone. Let me just say right off the bat the phone seems to be fine however there are a few issues that I believe can be corrected. The phone seem to have originated from another Country because if you press the volume up and the power and the home button to get in to recovery mode the phone just displays Chinese or Japanese writing and selections. I can read either so not sure what it all says. Also the phone seems to have been upgraded to Android 5.0 I am not sure if this maybe the root of the problems.
so to get to my problems, 1st off after configuring the APN info the phone will only connect to ATT network with H++ I believe this is HSPA. it kind of seems weird that 4GLTE would have been totally eliminated from this phone. another weird thing is the phone has a selection screen for APN type and all of the settings are not there it's Missing. you can check the boxes for default, mms, supl however hipri is nowhere to befound on the selection screen.
The last problem is a little more serious for me. the GPS will never acquire a lock or find satellites. Because I work as a onsite Tech it's a must for my GPS to work. I remember many years back I would root my phone and flash the firmware and you would have to go into recovery mode and set GPS settings or something I just can't seem to find any info on these problems at all.
Thanks in advance for your help
Any advice or directions would be appreciated.

I don't think Note 4 have lollipop yet... from your description, it actually sounds like you bought a knock off note 4... can you post some pictures?

will screen shots work

I don't have a way of taking pictures of the phone itself can I take some screen shots of the menu of something.
if so what menu would be best to see.
thanks,
update: I have checked all the tell tell signs that i may have a fake phone and i don't think I do. the S pen seems to work fine and the Samsung logos are all right and no crazy gaps in the buttons on the phone.
However i am still a little worried.
update2: I figured out that I do have a unlocked note how ever the serial points to a galaxy S 5 and in the information screen it says its a N9100 so I am not sure what I really have. no other model numbers can be found anywhere on the phone so ....

Maybe head over to a store and do a side by side comparison?

i have gone to the store to do a side by side

I have done this and the look just alike however the ATT rep said my serial points to a Galaxy S5 so that is very weird.......

A quick Google search says the N9100 is a China model. It may not have lte... does it have dual sim slots?

Unresponsive touch screen

Hi all, I recently purchased a nexus to replace my ailing evo 4g today from sprint and it came with a little surprise. The phone is horrible at picking up touch inputs, literally to the point the phone is unusable, like when you physically press the key "n" onscreen and "m" and a backspace is the result; and this happened literally out of the box. If i hadn't bought the last galaxy nexus of all the sprint stores in reach, i would have of course gotten another phone; however when the sprint rep checked to see when the next batch of them come in, there's supposedly a halt on shipments itself of the phone to sprint for unspecified reasons. I really really need some help on this one as im truly contemplating returning the phone and leaving sprint altogether. Browsing the web, I found this (http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/18431-tuning-driver-to-deal-with-unresponsive-touchscreen/) link in which someone tuned the input drivers for more responsiveness on the nexus s. My question is can this work on the nexus? If not, what needs to be done so i can finally enjoy my nexus!??

Return it and get a new one.

No can do for the moment, nearest sprint store with a nexus is too far away. I tried using the kernel fixes I mentioned in the op but ended up not getting any good results at all with the added bonus of having my phone stuck with a stock image which for some reason looks for a sim card and doesn't connect at all?? im shocked at how difficult this is turning out..
I am having the same issue as you, also my phone sometimes just stops responding to touch completely! All the power buttons work so it isn't a software issue, but the screen just doesnt respond to touch input. My question is, what do I do in order to return it and get a replacement?
Do i relock the bootloader and flash back the custom rom??
Im a bit of an Android noob and not sure how to return it compeltely to stock. I am running Francos kernal with a deodexed stock rom and unlocked bootloader.

This isn't my issue unfortunately My screen becomes unresponsive altogether, and nothing apart from a battery pull fixes it. So I called Amazon and am getting a replacement.
Just gonna make sure I got all my data and hopefully this is just a one off
Otherwise I think I will have to go with another device, even though I do love the Nexus
Ps. It could even be a faulty touchscreen driver
I'm sure your replacement will be fine.

Random rebooting?

My White Note 4 has been randomly rebooting, maybe once every couple days, for the last couple weeks. It gives no indication that it is about to do it (lagging up, freezing ect) it just literally goes black and reboots. It doesn't matter if what I'm doing either btw, has happened while internet browsing, using facebook, checking email and so on.
Anyone else having this issue?
I also noticed that my battery life isn't nearly as good as my wifes white note 4 even though we have the same setting on/off ect.
Do I have a bad unit? If so, will Verizon replace it? How would I go about getting them to replace the phone?
It's starting to get pretty annoying.
Thanks
Call ? up verizon tech support tell them the problems your having they more then likely will run ? some diagnostics and if they cant find the problem they will send you out another device more then likely refurbished just the unit no battery no back door etc ..but ive sent through the same thing with my note 3 and the refurbished unit worked better then my original one its worth a shot

yeah, there may even be some advantage to a refurbished/certified like new device. They actually check these devices individually to assure they function as they should. Granted, the issue you're expereincing wouldn't likely be picked up in their short test.
I have not experienced the issues you mentioned, OP.

Which battery do I need to fix the shutdown bug?

Ok, so I have an E5653 series from Taiwan. Unfortunately, I do not live in Taiwan, so I cannot take it to a support center in person. I've also spent 5-6 emails with Sony Taiwan telling them about the issue, not only do they not accept phones from overseas (because of the shipping back or something???), but are just giving terrible responses and fail to admit my issue is hardware (even according to the Xperia_M5_E56_Battery_Lock_Test_in_CS_Repair_Center.pdf) and keep telling me to update&repair my phone with Xperia Companion (WHEN IT IS UPDATED!).
So, I figured I'd take a shot and try to fix the issue myself. As many of you know about the 4G shutdown fix where the only resolution is plugging it into the charger, and I've seen the fix where you can uncheck a few bands in the BandMode settings, but I currently live in the middle of nowhere... unchecking the suggested ones leave me completely without service. So I can only use my phone with WiFi/Mobile Data off/Airplane Mode (y'know the rest).
I've contacted Sony from other region and they said they don't sell parts for their phones... so... what?????
I was looking at this listing here, is this the battery I need? I saw something on the M5 forums here about Rev03 or something? No idea...
If not, anyone know where I can get a replacement battery? I saw this video and it seems like I'd be able to replace the battery by myself, just need the battery in the first place.
Any other suggestions?
Another question: I was on 5.1 rooted and moved apps to SD card, eventually they started disappearing and the only way to find em again was opening Play Store and hitting open, or moving them back to storage... any idea about that?

The different Revision no's are where they have usually fixed any issues with the production process or had hardware problems and swapped to the latest hardware releases. So if you have a Rev1 device it could be possible to get more defects until the problems get ironed out(white z5c anyone). One reason I always wait at least a month or two from device release date, unfortunately Sony aren't really doing anything wrong regarding the warranty I thought it was well known that if you get a Xperia device from one country to use in another that's the gamble you take on it working perfectly and not needing the warranty.

Yeah, I did get this phone very early, so I'm sure without a doubt it's Rev1, I'm just asking to identify if there's any place I can buy the latest rev battery? There's a .3 in the end of the number in the ebay link I posted, but I don't know if that's how it's identified. Or if someone knew of a place to get M5 batteries online.

No idea how you'd tell regarding the batteries, but the best place to start would be eBay and Amazon

Search on how to disable the baseband to mitigate the shutdown issue. This is because of the signal, the phone needs to push a little more juice to get more signal from weak areas.

Unfortunately already tried that, even tried messing around with what bands to disable.
(Just the CLR bands, all bands except PCS&DCS, etc) It either leaves me without signal, or still shuts down my phone. If I leave on all bands and select edge as well.

A70 Pink Line

Well, woke up over the weekend and my phone has a pink line running vertically on the screen, doing some research it seems the S7 edge had the same issue. I tried going into the hidden settings and toggle the red/blue/green but it didn't fix it. Really seems to me like its a hardware issue. Contacted Samsung USA and they don't show the A70 as a US variant, so looks like I'll have to contact Samsung Canada? Anyone have any suggestions on next step?
i think it is something in develop mod
try to play there or reset settings

I cant really visualize. But if it is a vertical straight thin line, then your screen might be damaged.

I have a sprint logo on my background.

I have a sprint logo on my background that stays all the time. How can I delete it?

Welcome to XDA-Developers @bijayrpoudel!
Where/who did you get the phone (SPRINT/Samsung/retail outlet/etc...)?
Was the phone new when you bought it?
Was the logo present from day one?
What is the exact model number?
Can you grab a screenshot of the "About Phone" page?
Have you tried running the phone in safe mode & /or tried a factory reset (the latter preferably without restoring a backup, if applicable) ?
The more information you present, the better & sooner you may get more responses/solution.

I almost want to say screen burn in or some sort of screen damage of some kind... Not 100% sure.
When and where did you get this phone?
If you got it recently then I suggest getting a warranty replacement. If warranty replacement isn't an option then try a factory data reset and see if that helps.

Where/who did you get the phone (SPRINT/Samsung/retail outlet/etc...)?
=> Retail Outlet. The owner said the phone was paid off Sprint and it's unlocked for any carrier. It is unlocked, I am using Att Sim card. Everything works great except that bloatware logo from Sprint.
Was the phone new when you bought it?
==> It was open-box.
Was the logo present from day one?
=> Yes.
What is the exact model number?
=> SM-N975U
Can you grab a screenshot of the "About Phone" page?
=>Yes, I will update the MEGA folder with the picture. LINK : mega.nz/folder/HNIDlCYJ#X7sPDhCYEb-au-6ovDdMRA
Have you tried running the phone in safe mode & /or tried a factory reset (the latter preferably without restoring a backup, if applicable) ?
=> Yes, the logo appears on safe mode. I did factory reset as well. Still hasn't solved the issue
I tried deleting the Sprint bloatware apks using adb tools.
Thank You for your response.

Whoever told you that this was an "open box" phone was making generous usage of the term.
As someone else mentioned, it sounds like it has screen burn-in, which suggests this was a demo/floor model, likely from day one of release, hence the screen burn-in.
I'd take it back to wherever you bought it from for a refund, if possible.
Just for the heck of it, there are apps that make claims to lessen the appearance of screen burn,(Screen Burn Fixer, just to name one) it's free & you have literally nothing to lose at this point.
Good luck.
I looked at the pictures you provided and that is definitely screen burn in.

yeah the fact it doesn't show on the screen grab and only photos of the phone I would have to agree it is most likely screen burn in. as said above it's likely been a demo phone in a shop sitting with a sprint wallpaper on the screen for months leading it to burn the logo into the screen. I would look at returning it as if it has been a demo unit causing the screen burn in the fact it has also likely spent months plugged into the mains will have likely also degraded the battery considerably.
looking at the fact it likely is really bad burn in and likely an ex demo phone I would question the ethics of the store you purchased from as they likely sold you it knowing the phone was in poor condition, if nothing else I hope you got a really large discount on the phone as it has likely had more use than most of the phones out the wild, as the demo units are permanently plugged in and have the screens on for 8+ hours solid a day (assuming the store turns them off when closed) so a demo unit after a few months is probably in worse condition than a year old or more phone.
