My case, since I got my screen replaced (Under warranty through Assurion) causes random touches. What I think is happening is that the new screen must have a slightly larger touchable surface.
It works perfectly outside the case, but I'm far too clumsy for that. I've already had my screen replaced twice after drops in the year that I have had it(and that was with a case on, I shudder to think how many more times I would have broken it without one).
Any suggestions on what to do?
My wife has the same device and she tried my case on hers with no problems, so it's definitely not simply the case being worn out.
I'm also hesitant to send it back to assurion with the complaint that they fixed it too well.
I did try an app called digitizer booster, which helps for a little while and then stops working. What I assume it is doing is ignoring the spots where the case is touching, and then at some point, when the case shifts or something, the ghost touches start up again.

I've done some more research, and it appears likely that it's a grounding issue. I guess I'm sending it back to Assurion for repair again. I was hoping I wouldn't have to live without it for another week and a half.

Has anyone had issues with getting dust under their screen. I recently received a replacement from asurion and the bottom left corner seems to have a wider gap than the right with backlight bleed and at night when there is a black background I can see what looks like dust. Would you consider this something worth contacting them about and possibly getting replaced.
If its bad, then yes I'd see about a replacement because it shouldn't be like that. I mean, you could try opening it up to clean it and see about sealing it better, but I don't know that you're obligated to fix it yourself because that is a defect. But be warned, it seems like a lot of people have been getting inc 2s as replacements, although its not a bad phone.
Ive got a couple of specks of dust that are only noticeable with the screen off. I dont have asurion but still have the Htc warranty. I could take it apart but refuse to potentially kill a perfect Dinc. Any Suggestions?
None here, but this problems brings back bad memories of my BB Storm. Glad I made the switch!
For the last day or so the touchscreen on my Tilt 2 will not respond. I thought Sense was hanging due to text messages so I deleted all of them this morning. That didn't help and neither did multiple reboots so I finally did a hard reset. Now I am really hosed since I can't get through the initial setup. Sounds like the digitizer may have bit it?
I am not at home to flash an official ROM right now but I will try that tomorrow. Other than that does anyone have any other ideas? I am paying for the warranty and insurance so I think I can get it swapped if I have to. Are they still sending out Rhodiums or do they have another device to send in its place now?
Okay, I just flashed the latest official ROM downloaded from HTC. Screen still isn't working. :-( Guess it's time to contact Asurion.
my tilt2 is also doing this, it stopped working about a week or two ago, then started working a few hours later. lately it will work sporadically and most the time not how it is supposed to. i have simplicity. i also have the insurance and i think mine is still under warranty, will i need to put the original sense back on it b4 i send it back in? also, on another note, sometimes when i plug it in to charge it the orange light doesn't come on indicating it is charging, i have to hold the power button for a few seconds. it started around the same time, are these issues related.
Possible fix
Ok, so I have learned that these screens are pretty sensitive, especially if you put them in your pocket. You can sometimes revive this by sliding your fingernail into the seam along the outer edges of the screen and running it along the seam as if you were trying to peel the front (digitizer) off of the LCD. It somehow releases the stuck screen or something. Mine has been doing this off and on for a while and I've been able to revive it several times with this method, though it's getting too frequent now and I'm thinking of trying to replace the digitizer all together. I'm afraid to make that leap though.

The reason this "fixes" it is there some dust or dirt between the screen & panel. If enough gets in there, the digitizer gets confused and ignores any presses.
If you completely disassemble the screen and thoroughly clean it, I bet it'll be fine - no need to replace anything. However, this is a very tedious and delicate process, so be extremely careful.
Today I finally decided to replace the broken screen on my Nexus 7. Everything went well and according to plan, and when turning on the device I noticed it was working fine. However, upon closer inspection it turned out that one thin line on my screen isn't working. It's preventing me from doing SwiftKey flow, and when I tried drawing in Evernote I could see it was skipping over that part of the screen.
What could be the cause of this? I can't rule out that it's the screen part itself, but could it be more likely that I somehow damaged the LCD flex cable? I tried detaching and reattaching cables, so I have doublechecked that. I guess my question is mostly, how useful is it to try and replace the cable? Thanks in advance!

Did you replace the combo lcd/digitizer, or just the digitizer? In the latter case, you're lucky to have just a thin dead band; usually,1/3 of the screen would be unusable. In the former case, if the bezel is bent, however slightly, or there is some glue residue from the old screen on the bezel that causes the new screen to lie on an uneven surface, it would happen. I've experimented enough times to know the bezel has to be absolutely clean of everything and the surface must be 100% smooth and even. If you used strong tape on the new screen, your best bet is the multi-fix touch, as removing it would in most cases damage it.

I replaced the screen + digitizer. I looked at the bezel (luckily the tape I used wasn't that strong so the screen was still detachable) and I cleaned it up thoroughly. There were indeed some glue residues left. However, it was no use, the screen still fails in the same locations. I had high hopes this might be the cause, but apparently not.
I highly doubt the bezel was bent, because I was very careful with it. I will try out the multi-fix touch option, but I'll do that tomorrow as I'm quite tired now. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Don't know if you're familiar with the mechanics of the touchscreen, so I'm adding this for the sake of completeness. Lots of people would post problems and when you try to help, would snap back: "I already tried this and that and other things..." So if you already know, forget the rest.
I've found Yet Another Multi-touch Test (YAMTT) of tremendous help in diagnosing. When you switch from one firmware to another, YAMTT allows you to pinpoint exactly where touches do not register. If the dead band remains consistent, it's probably the screen itself. However, touch detection sometimes varies with the speed at which you touch. I've seen touches missing in some areas, which would register on a second or third or fourth pass. So, go slow in those areas, and back and forth to make sure they're really dead. Tedious process indeed, since you have around 30 variants to play with.

I don't know about the mechanics of the touchscreen, so all of this is helping me
I took a look at that tool, and I posted the result of drawing on imgur: paste "oyIt3bg" after imgur.com (I'm apparently still too 'new' to post links, sorry about that). It is clearly one band, very consistent. I think I should probably talk to the shop I got it from and ask for a replacement. Which sucks, because this particular parts took 3 weeks to even get here. Anyhow, glad I know what the problem is now. Again, thanks for all your help, I appreciate it
Hello fellow dutchie,
I have experienced this problem on my Nexus 4, and after having replaced the LCD+digitizer I also had issues with touch responsiveness in exactly the same areas. As silly as it would sound beforehand, it doesn't seem to be the screen or digitizer. Best... to give up.
I had my note 4 screen assembly replaced after I dropped it. However, the screen is no longer completely secured in the phone. The screen pushes into the frame if I place pressure on the screen and I can get my finger under the edge of the assembly on the top left corner. The home button is also loose, but gets tight like it should be if I hold the screen down. This is an annoying issue and I've recently noticed that dust is getting inside the phone, which I'm worried will cause hardware damage. The front camera is already blurry and cloudy from dust getting inside. If I take the screen off and apply new adhesive, will the screen sit in the frame like it should or is it impossible to restore the feel on a phone with a screen replacement to what it was like from the factory? I hope you hear from you guys, and thanks in advance.
I would take it to a local Sprint service and repair location (or where ever you got your screen replacement). They should be able to reseat your screen in the housing and clean your camera right up. In terms of applying new adhesive, you shouldn't really need to. The 15 some odd screws on the back should take care of it. Source: I'm a S&R Technician
Thanks for the help! My problem is that I'm hesitant to return to the shop where I got the screen replaced, because when they originally replaced it I was unsatisfied with how it fit so I went back and had them do some more work. It was alright at first, but it began to get steadily worse in a fairly short amount of time. So I'm a little cautious of going back there to ask them to do more work. If I asked them to reseat the screen assembly, do you think it would help? Also, is it possible to return to an almost-factory feel with a replaced screen or do I need to accept that the assembly will never be quite as tight as it originally was?
Similar issue
I had a similar issue and I took it back to sprint which they fixed regardless of my device being rooted.
Did you have the screen replaced before you took it to sprint, or was the screen loose from the factory?
you can find the replace guide at ifixit, I don't leave the link, you can google it.
If you want to buy original LCD screen ,you can go to the HCQS.
Hello all,
I will preface this by saying that this issue is likely a result of water damage. However, my experience has been a bit odd. So someone bumped my chair, spilled water partially on my phone. I immediately removed the case and battery and let the phone sit for a good half hour before examining it. Looked completely dry so I inserted the battery and booted up. Went perfectly fine until the home screen appeared, at which point the screen did not register any touches and I could not interact with the phone. Removed the battery again and reexamined the phone: upon shaking it I found that some water shook free and was immediately worried. Let it dry for another half hour or so, rebooted it, and it worked perfectly for about half an hour, listened to music and such.
While texting, I noticed that there was some worrisome screen flickering going on so I removed the battery again and let it dry for another hour or two. Now I've reattempted to reboot it, but the screen absolutely refuses to respond to touch input. The phone appears to work perfectly fine and there is no damage to the screen I can see, nor does the flickering appear anymore. But touch input is fully unresponsive.
My current plan is to by a replacement digitizer, screen, and frame combo and replace that but I wanted to check in with the forum first to see if anyone has any ideas as to what the problem is and how I might go about verifying that the digitizer is indeed broken.

I've personally not known digitizers to go bad from a little water. Usually it's an internal area where the water is getting too. If you're no longer under warranty I'd take the phone apart from the back by taking out the screws and examining it that way. It may be too late for it if it's caused flickering in the screen. It could have weakened it. Am I saying don't buy a digitizer? No that's up to you. Unfortunately since you used it within a few hours of it getting wet I'm not sure. The best thing to do is to at least let it have a chance to dry overnight since the water gets in places that not much air gets to it takes longer to dry. Some have had luck putting the phone in a baggy of dry rice to extract the moisture. I've never had much luck with that method. I've always taken the phone apart as much as I can and then putting rubbing alcohol on the board to seep in where the water may have gotten and then letting it air dry. Make sure not to get it on the screen though. And with any advice like this I take no responsibility if the phone messes up, becomes unusable or turns into a Ferrari

Thanks a ton for the reply. I have essentially come to the same conclusion. It is quite an absurd issue that EVERYTHING appears to function, but the screen is no longer responsive to touch input. I'm going to try and replace the display body (only $50, can return it within 30 days if no luck). My Verizon contract ends in mid July so I just need a phone that can limp to that point or whenever the next Nexus is released.
Well, I managed to replace the screen/digitizer/body (essentially did a transplant of everything) and now my phone is back in reasonable working order. Had some odd issues with screen flickering again so that is worrisome, but the touch screen now works fine. Only issue is that the screen is absolute trash and is washed out, with major light leakage around the bezels (may have gotten some ****ty knockoff from China ).
