I've tried both the unofficial CM11 and CM12 ROMs and neither seem to have working device encryption. This has been discussed in the CM12 thread but I found no mention of it in the CM11 thread. Rather than just focusing on those two, I was wondering if there's a rather vanilla ROM that is known to have device encryption working. I really didn't like the 10m I spent with the stock G3 ROM but device encryption is an absolute must for me.

Long time lurker, first second time posting.
New to ROMs but learnt a lot in the last few weeks.
Tried several ROMs and now wanting to settle with Vanir 2.9.
Flashed it and followed instructions but the wifi isn't working (not turning on).
I first flashed the recommended LX kernel from 3andala's direct link then tried the Optkernel before installing the latest ROM with no luck. I did notice that when the ROM was installing it seems to "install boot.img", something I hadn't noticed before with other ROMs.Is it overwriting the previously flashed boot.img (from LX and Opt??)
Should I be opening the zip and replacing the boot.img with another one (Opt or LX)?
I would have loved to ask in the specific thread but as a noob, forum rules state I cannot ask in the DEV thread until I have 10 posts. I a, allergic to spamming otherwise....
TIA for any help.
I have same problem but its not a kernel problem. Vanir 082814 is last with wifi working. All newer versions have problem to start wifi on my xperia arc s.

Thanks.
You may be right. I've tried several kernels without success.
I'll probably have to find another ROM to use for the time being. The Vanir ROM is very smooth though. Transitions effortlessly.
BTW, the 082814 ROM, is it ok? Anything wrong with it? Any improvements in the more recent ROMs over it?
Thanks.
082814 is ok and it is smooth. Newer versions are even faster. I'll wait for new version with wifi fixed
thanks.
Update
All sorted now. WiFi working perfectly.

Was just curious as to why the D855 seems to have a lack of development now that bump had gone open source (though I hate how it was done and feel for Codefire and his team) Yes there are several AOSP Roms available to flash, none are official..

1) Everybody is moving to Lolipop, no one wants to make 4.4 roms.
2) AOSP 5.0 base is not stable. It is still buggy.
3) Consequently, no roms based on lolipop are stable. So no "official roms" from cyan or others will be released right now.
4) Cyan, Liquid and other teams are in process of porting their features and apps to 5.0. They'll need to do a lot of rewriting...
5) Apktool doesn't work with most LG 5.0 system apks. We (Seven and me) submitted a bug, and apktool's author is looking into it. Until he fixes this bug, almost no modding is possible.
We'll have to wait for several months, until everything is sorted out.
That still doesn't explain why the D851 has multiple official AOSP Roms to choose from while the D855 has none
Hi all,
I created this thread to meet the conclusion about lvm and "encryption unsuccessful" in some(almost all) roms.
The thing is flashed cm13 official nightly, du 9.8,mokee official nightly. All ROMs boot and shows encryption unsuccessful and can't go through this. I flashed all those ROMs over stock 2.1.5i . The I flashed Omini latest nightly it booted and working fine.
Now what about the other ROMs ? Do they require to setup lvm? I got different answers in different threads so posted here to get a clear conclusion. Hope anyone got answer
cm officially doesn't support lvm / unified storage, so anything thts based on cm will fail (minus crDroid). hope this helps.
On my M8, I'm running the ancient CM12.1 snapshot from November 2015. I've made the decision to update to the latest CM13 nightlies but I wanted to ask about their stability and any problems I will face. Thanks for your help!
I am using CM13 now more than half a year. Throughout this period, I encountered lots of great versions and only a few with noticeable bugs. Unfortunately my device sometimes crashes and restarts (on a daily basis) - I had this issue with almost every version of CM13, so maybe it is my fault and I should do a clean flash.
You dirty flashed from 12.1?

I would suggest always doing a clean flash from major version changes (such as CM12 to 13).
A dirty flash may work (don't recall if its a possibility or not going CM12.1>CM13). But if you have any issues, its probably due to migrating the data, and you should clean flash.
Not sure about the CM threads on the M8, but for my other device (Samsung Tab Pro 8.4), the thread says to not even bother posting a bug report if you dirty flashed (which I tend to agree with).
Dear All,
I'm looking for stable custom rom (if possible lollipop/marshmallow) for my e988 4g KitKat device, especially that can save battery usage. Do you guys have any refference?
There are so many custom rom but i'm difficult to find the plus and minus side of those rom.
Ive been looking to cm site, but unfortunately they are not available anymore
Thankyou
Look, most AOSP ROMs have same issues: camera crashes, bluetooth connection problems etc. etc. Everything else is pretty much same. People were mostly using SlimLP and Carbon, some used Bliss but I think there is no download link for it. Slim and Carbon use a bit more customizable kernel (dave used my kernel for as long as he built Carbon, and SlimLP has just a bit newer version of it, with GPU issues fixed completely).
My choices were Slim and (later, after Slim stopped updating their Lollipop sources) PAC (built for personal needs, no uploads) so if you want AOSP, go with SlimLP or Carbon. Carbon was working nicely too, and last time I had Bliss installed was somewhere after Lollipop just started, so can't judge how last versions worked.
If any of this is not good enough, try any of these stock roms, if any still available. I can't recommend anything from there simply because I never wanted to use those - if stock was that good, I'd stay on it
P.S. This device never received Marshmallow updates due to insane amount of work someone had to provide. I had few attempts but never moved over some issues with modem. More in the forums...
Thank you for the explanation, i will look more for Carbon in Android Development threads.

Were there any MM kernels ever compiled that you know of? Could someone with enough time and work be able to successfully compile a working rom? A bit of a developing noob, but have two E980s and plenty of time on my hands.

Yes, mine I was probably only one who worked on Marshmallow, but sources are now long gone, drive I've kept my repo is dead and I haven't uploaded that anywhere.
I've been using Carbon KK for several months and it is very stable and smooth. I've never used MM so not sure how it compares, but it has all the features I need to keep using this phone every day.
