I just saw that Verizon is now selling certified pre-owned Note 4's for a 30% discount on their website.
They note this is a factory unlocked version. Does this mean the bootloader is unlocked and thus could be rooted?

No, is Sim unlocked. Great price though

because CPO are as their name says preowned and they always have issues as stated
The deal is back on. I've gotten warranty replacements in the past that were CPO and they were always fine.

T-Mobile Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900T) comes with software diagnostics package. This system process periodically scans the device for several information and sends the data to T-Mobile servers:
1) Updated/Uninstalled Apps from last scan.
2) App data compilation information.
3) Signal information.
4) Number of successful calls/texts/data services.
5) Number of times the processor was running in full capacity.
Disable this by going to settings-->Accounts-->Backup/Factory Reset-->Collect Diagnostics--> Uncheck the box.
You may leave the checkmark in tact if you would still like to send your device data to T-Mobile. I recommend disabling it because there are no benefits of sending data to T-Mobile. You will not receive faster updates, get new features and/or receive better signal by sending the data.
I think the first thing I did after unboxing the phone (and rooting, of course) was deleting every single bit of T-Mobile crap.

I did that as well. Carriers need to stop bloating our phones with bloatwares.
That's what you get for discounted phones, bloatware.

Discounted phones? Most people are paying full price. T-Mobile no longer has contracts therefore no subsidized phone pricing. Note 3 runs about $700 and still has bloatware.

No. There's an app you have to use to unlock it but some other people in the forum have said you have to be on TMO for 40 days before you can use the app.
I bought my device at full price from a TMO store and it's locked.

Thanks so much, I will call to get my phone unlocked then!
So with the Pixel phone being sold through Verizon here in the US, do you think this phone will be fully unlocked if bought from them?
Wow, that is expensive... and sold out...
Didn't get one, but want the 128 GB (though I wish they offered a 64GB).
Add the protection plan for another $100, sitting at close to $1000!
Holy cow... I am going to need to sell a kidney.

Being it's Verizon I would say very likely but I am sure it will get cracked at least until new updates remember this is Verizon your talking about they love to be in control of things that they have no right to be. Easy fix don't buy from Verizon buy from Google or if you can buy from HTC as they will treat you better in the long run like the $100 in free accessories they gave the HTC 10 buyers after we got an extra free USB-C charge cable months before and maybe uh oh protection might be included too but that is hoping lol.
Is there any downsides from purchasing from google vs Verizon? Will we get access to the same LTE bands, etc.?
In the past, have google versions of phones have come with unlocked bootloaders but verizon come with locked versions of the same devices?

Given the way the past Nexus devices (that included support for Verizon and were eventually sold through them) the answer is no. They use the exact same hardware presumably. But until we start seeing model numbers confirmed it could be a possibility. But the unlocked version will support Verizon and it will have Google as your main access for support (which has been good to some people in the past).

The only reason I'd consider buying it straight from Verizon is because it would be added onto my bill in which my job would end up paying for my phone. If I buy it from the PlayStore i'd have to buy it on my own.
I think I'm going to end up with a Note 7.

I'm in that boat as well, work will pay for my phone if I get it through Verizon. Here's hoping that I can in some way sell the Verizon phone NIB and buy the unlocked one.
If you get it from Verizon they are offering the promotion 2 year contract again exclusively for this phone. So you can get the pixel 128gb for like $300....but it might be bootloader locked and you won't get the free vr headset promo the Google store is offering right now.

Pre-order either Pixel model from today through October 19th and Verizon will send you a redemption code for a free Daydream view.
Will likely be bootloader locked.

All I see on their web site is the payment plan and the option to pay full retail price and I looked all over Verizon's web site and I cannot see the contract option for either pixel phone. Can you provide a link to where you found it please, thanks.

My coworker told me about the 2 year promo...I didn't actually see it myself. He is currently at the end if a 2 year promo so maybe that has something to do with it??
Oh that's it. Anyone on a contract can keep getting new contracts like that. But new customers cannot get a contract from Verizon directly. You can still get service through Verizon with a new contract and subsidised phone you just have to purchase the Verizon service through dealers like best buy and target I know they both list new Verizon service with a contract where you get the phone subsidised instead of a payment plan or paying full retail price for the phone.

Yeah, but it took well over a year to unlock the verizon S5 (at least. I hadn't looked for another year, so it might have been over 2). It'll be cracked Eventually but how long will it take
I'm not too worried about the bootloader being locked as I've stopped rooting my phones and flashing ROMS but I just need to know if the Verizon model has all the bands to work properly on t-mobile. I have 2 sims and need to confirm this.
Bootloader is definitely locked. Saw this question/answer on the VZW Page this morning for the Pixel XL.
I just preordered the pixel xl from best buy and extended my contract with Verizon. Does anybody know if the version they carry is the same as Verizon's or the unlocked version in the play store?

You should buy it from Google Store, that's an honest opinion.

Highly unlikely I would guess. I think you can get it from the google store tho and have it activated on verizon network still, from what I have read. That version would come ready to be unlocked.

Why wouldn't you buy a "Verizon version with expectation of using it on another carrier"?
I bought a Verizon version last night from Best Buy (im not really worried about unlocking the bootloader at this point. Been doing it for years lol ) and put my T-Mobile sim card in and it worked immediately.
All these Google Pixel phones are carrier unlocked. Every single one. The only difference is that the Verizon version currently cannot be Bootloader unlocked, but I'm sure it will someday.
I would say buy from google if you really want to have an unlocked bootloader. I wont say it will never be unlocked but i think there will be very few working on it for the simple fact that you can buy an unlocked version. I would have bought it from google but it was more cost effective for me to buy it from Verizon.
Honest opinion = It is highly unlikely!
Most likely not since there is an google verison that comes with an unlocked bootloader for the same price.
I'm with verizon but bought it from the Google store. I am thinking about switching carriers sometime soon so I don't want to be stuck with monthly payments from Verizon on a device that won't be used on their carrier. That's why I did Google finance. Plus I already give too much money to Verizon each month. Bootloader being unlocked or not doesn't bother me but some people will want root and one day I may root and I want that option.
Yeahci will just wait till its available again. I'm on tmobile and I will never leave. Lol I only pay 50$ for unlimited everything

Same here. My wife is on Verizon and I looked at adding a line. If I buy it outright (pixel xl) I don't get the big credit for my V10, only fair market value and I don't get the free data bump either. At the end of the day, staying with T-Mobile with unlimited data just makes sense

Never buy a phone for what it MIGHT do in the future.
If you need root/unlocked bootloader buy a phone that already has that.

So I will let the hypedye down now I'll just stick to 7.1.1 on the 6p. And than I'll sell my 6p and op3 to buy the xl in the coming months.
It seems there are too many Verizon models running around now that somehow came with an unlockable bootloader.... makes me think there is a better chance at the devs finding a way. Mostly just a hunch but....

Will an at&t sim in verizon model prevent software updates?
Hey guys,
Quick question about this. I have an option to upgrade a work phone for $219. I think there is a coupon for $100 off but I'm not sure if it will work on the Pixel XL. I root and run custom roms. I'm on a Nexus 6 still. What would be best? Getting the phone for possibly $119 on Verizon or going through Google financing and paying it off monthly?

The Verizon version has an "unlockable" bootloader. It can be unlocked via dePixel8 if it is still on 7.1. But if it's on 7.1.1 (December security update NMF26O), then that exploit has been patched, and bootloader can't currently be unlocked.

FWIW: if you buy one in a brick and mortar VZW store (of BestBuy), there's a high probability that it'll still be on 7.1 and unlockable with dePixel8. But you'd have to prevent them from setting it up and taking the update.

Good choice. Consider a few months from now... You have to make a warranty exchange from VZ. It comes with 7.1.1 or higher... And you are screwed.
