After seeing this for the Optimus 4X (http://forum.xda-developers.com/optimus-4x-hd/general/guide-homemade-heatsink-easy-to-make-t2971385), I decided to try one for the G3.
I covered most of the back part (except the sd slots, camera, etc.), and although the heat still felt similar (when touching the power/vol. buttons), the games didn't lag/stutter as much (I'm assuming it's cause of thermal throttling).
However, one problem I'm experiencing is the GPS problem. The foil made it impossible to get a GPS lock (and I had to rip the foil out while I was driving and lost, thus no pics ). Furthermore, I tried Googling, but couldn't find information about where the GPS module is located on our phone.
Can someone help with:
(a) Trying it out and confirming that the heat sink really works and isn't just a placebo effect on my side,
(b) Locating the GPS module so we can hopefully work around it?
In regards to b, the GPS is on-die with the CPU, as seen here (In the most obvious place in my opinion, the site of the manufacturer xD)
https://www.qualcomm.com/products/snapdragon/processors/801
Qualcomm decided to put everything into one package so it's not spread throughout the phone and decreases overall size, so yes the GPS is with the CPU and almost everything else
If you watch any teardown video, you will see that the CPU/System die is exactly in the middle of the phone, right behind the lock/unlock and volume rocker. So keeping a nice square cut-out of the aluminum foil should let all the signals pass through, but then you won't have the heat being transferred from the CPU, only from around it so the CPU might still heat up :/
TL;DR: Not really much you can do because the GPS is on the CPU unfortunately :/
That graphic (from the Qualcomm site) is more an infographic than an actual layout of the cpu. Aside from that, it's only the GPS logic circuitry that's on the chip, not the GPS antenna. That graphic shows a camera on chip, too, but we all know the actual camera isn't located on the chip.
What matters for the OP is where the GPS antenna is located. That's shown in the image below, from the Anandtech web site: http://www.anandtech.com/show/8169/the-lg-g3-review/9

I just couldn't stand to do that.
Still, the official purpose is one too long pin (marked with red on last photo), which deforming the back housing cover.
Has got to cut it down a bit.

Just to make sure; so you dont separate the white back cover between the from the bronze and the cover but between the bronze rim and the glass front?
OP, did you cut the long pin? Also, was it easy to pull off the screen from the back cover? I may try this because there seems to be a slight bump coming up from my T700.
It looks to me like the usb port is a separate module which is good news. In the past i've had to repair these by desoldering and replacing, which is not any easy task due to their minute size.
Hi, I've got some questions. Not precisely about the deformation, though. Hope its not an issue.
I've got this issue. Battery draining even while the tablet has been turned off (completely off - turned off via the software button that comes up via long press on the power button).
Amongst other things, I suspect that the power drain has something to do with the antenna's on the back cover. Anyone know what those antennas are for? They say stuff like LTE and WiFi however, I've taken off the back cover and its still connecting to mobile data and wifi etc. So these may be extra antenna's etc.
bluetooth and gps need antennas as well though some can share.

Hi the little white cord above the camera is missing from my tab. What is it?
I'm still not sure how it happened, but I somehow managed to crack my camera. Not just the lense like everyone else due to heat issues, but the actual camera.
So I figured I'd replace it myself instead of paying someone 100$+ to do it, and then have them charge me double for the part.
I made a pretty bad screw up the first time and broke the cable going to the power/volume buttons when initially opening the casing, and didnt realize until after I had replaced the camera.
I just got the new SD card reader/button cable in yesterday, and finished replacing it about 5 minutes ago. But the phone still will not boot.
I double checked all of the flex cables/signal cables to be 100% sure everything is plugged in properly, and not broken.
All of the flex cable protectors are back in place etc., but it just won't boot. the charge indicator won't even turn on when I plug it in.
I followed the video shown https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RRJAHbnYmQ to take it apart initially, then followed it backwards to be 100% sure I wouldn't miss anything when putting it back together.
The only thought I have, is that Im having issues getting the case to snap back together completely.
That's when I noticed the pieces shown in the pictures below.

This is my first time actually working on a phone, but from what I assume, they look like some kind of spring based switches that will sever very important connections if the phone isn't completely put back together, with the case holding these raised parts down to complete a circuit.
I'm not sure if that's my problem, or if I somehow managed to screw up something a lot more important.
Can anyone at all shed some light on this?
Edit: Another thought just occurred, would I be able to use my UH-OH protection for this, even though technically speaking I'm the one that caused it to become completely non functional by opening it and attempting repairs on my own? Should I drop the thing in a bucket of water for a while first to claim UH-OH?
Over the weekend, my GPS (and GLONASS, incidentally) suddenly stopped working. I opened Google Maps to find my way home, and it could not find any satellites. Over the course of the past week, I ran various apps and tests, including a new ROM, to determine that this was not a software issue: the GPS is dead.
At least, it can't receive signals. The GPS unit hasn't failed as far the software is concerned; the system happily tries to grab a signal whenever you ask it to without any errors showing up in the logcat. I'm hoping that this means that something happened to the GPS antenna and that it can be repaired/replaced. The problem is that I can't seem to find any information on where I can find the GPS antenna or how I might fix it. The only information that I've found is this image from Anandtech showing the general location:

There's lots of information on how to repair an LG G2, but next to nothing in the G3. I'd really like to keep this phone running until the next generation of Nexus Phones are released, but I don't look forward to living without GPS for the next 4-5 months.
I've already replaced the screen on this phone (manufacturing defect that LG denied... bastards), so I'm not squeamish about opening it up, but it's also my daily driver, so I don't want to open it up more than necessary, hence the tons of research.
Any assistance would be appreciated!
- Dave
I had similar issue turned out to be my FM transmitter in my car blocking GPS, realised when a Garmin satnav also failed to lock signal.

It's definitely not an interference issue; I get 0 signal (not just weak signal), and it happens even when I'm a hundred feet from cars or buildings outdoors. That's why I'm thinking that it's possibly an issue with the antenna that can be repaired (hopefully!), but I can't find documentation on precisely where the GPS antenna is to inspect it. My fear is that the issue is that the GPS hardware itself has failed, in which case the only real solution is to get a new phone.
Hello. Some weeks ago I sent my Nexus 5X to the technical assistance with the problem I described here https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/help/brick-apparently-reason-t3680715. Now they told me that they won't repair it under warranty because they found traces of liquid/oxide inside it, so they are sending it back to me unfixed. Now I find this odd because the only encounters it has made with water were in the form of small quantities dropped on the screen (the amount you can drop by moving a glass in the air too quickly) which I dried immediately and the symptoms seemed to point to a bad contact. Anyway the repair center provided an image in which seems that actually some liquid has made it inside the case, but I can't recognize which part of the phone it is. Here's the image:

So the questions are: which is the part in the photo? Do you have an idea about how could have a liquid made it inside the phone (I think that is unlikely that it was by dropping something on the screen)? Do you think that the problem I experienced is compatible with a water-induced short circuit or any other damage by liquid?
Thanks in advance for your answers and explanations
I actually thought that was a picture of the shipping box before I read your post. I took mine apart to where I could pull the motherboard off, and there definitely wasn't blue tape holding something down. The only thing I can think of is that is maybe the back of the screen. Which would be after pulling the metal frame off.
Check out these pictures. If you go all the way toward the end steps, you can see you get all the way until there is mostly the metal frame inside the plastic and stuck to the back of the display without seeing anything that looks like your picture.
Their picture honestly seems to be an entirely different phone. But of course they may have changed assembly and parts at some point. I would take it apart when you get it back, take pictures and if nothing looks like the picture they sent, see if you can appeal or whatever. Maybe you can just point to the 3rd party teardowns and ask them to point out where they claim the picture is from.

I think it's under the battery, the blue part looks like the battery adhesive but it's normally black,
It was was to get behind there it would of had to enter via the simcard
Hi there,
I purchased a PX6 for my 2009 Honda Civic last June and I’ve been having issues ever since I bought it.
The screen is generally heavily distorted, making the graphics look washed out and strangely warped. Occasionally, it will correct itself and look normal but it usually takes a bit of warming up/driving to correct it. Audio through CarPlay will frequently stop playing which only returns when I switch to the radio for an extended period of time. My back camera is also intermittent.
I’m starting to think it may be a power issue? I’ve also noticed certain lights in my car often don’t light up. The gearstick, AC buttons etc. I tested the battery I installed in my car, which came to 12.86 volts. Since updating the HMC a couple days back, I noticed it now displays the battery output in the menu bar. In the image attached, it’s showing 14 volts in the menu bar and when the screen randomly works correctly, the voltage is at around 13 volts. However, this is not conclusive evidence - as I’ve only just updated the software.
If anyone could please advise, I’d greatly appreciate your help.
Thanks,
Danny.

Can no one help me with this?
What happens if you turn the screen brightness down a little bit? Does adjusting brightness make the problem worse, or no change?

No changes at all. Exactly the same.
Have you contacted the seller or manufacturer? If it has never worked right, then I would be looking to replace. If it was purchased on Amazon, I'd suggest return or exchange. I know it's probably not the help you are looking for on the forum, sorry.
